This experiment was designed to observe the changes in skeletal muscle(gastrocnemius) of the rat in the swimming training. The subject were divided into three groups : control, 4 weeks swimming and 8 weeks swimming trained group. Myofibrils in the muscle fiber were disaggregated of the forced swimming, although mitochondria between myofibrils were fused with each other and because gigant mitochondria, but the density of cristae decreased. Mitochondria between sarcolemma and myofibrils were divided and thus increased in number. Sarcoplasm was increased, and disaggregated membrane system was observed in swelling formation. Muscle fibers in the skeletal muscle were damaged by stress when the skeletal muscle was affected by forced swimming. The increase in number of mitochondria indicates positive adaptation of the skeletal muscle when training is prolonged.
