<P>In this work, bimodal Cu nano-inks composed of two different sizes of Cu nanoparticles (NPs) (40 and 100 nm in diameter) were successfully sintered with a multi-pulse flashlight sintering technique. Bimodal Cu nano-inks were fabricated and printed with various mixing ratios and subsequently sintered by a flash light sintering method. The effects of the flashlight sintering conditions, including irradiation energy and pulse number, were investigated to optimize the sintering conditions. A detailed mechanism of the sintering of bimodal Cu nano-ink was also studied via real-time resistance measurement during the sintering process. The sintered Cu nano-ink films were characterized using x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. From these results, it was found that the optimal ratio of 40–100 nm NPs was found to be 25:75 wt%, and the optimal multi-pulse flash light sintering condition (irradiation energy: 6 J cm−2, and pulse duration: 1 ms, off-time: 4 ms, and pulse number: 5) was found. The optimally sintered Cu nano-ink film exhibited the lowest resistivity of 5.68 <I>μ</I>Ω cm and 5B adhesion level.</P>

Inflammatory pseudotumor is a benign disease, which is histologically composed of the?inflammatory cells such as mature lymphocytes, plasma cells, and histiocytes. It usually occurs in the respiratory system, liver, central nervous system, and gastrointestinal tracts. However, inflammatory pseudotumor rarely occurs in the spleen. Pathologic diagnosis is essential for the definitive diagnosis because of the difficulty in distinguishing pseudotumor from lymphoproliferative disorders of the spleen. We report a case of inflammatory pseudotumor of the spleen. A 35-year-old woman complained of the intermittent epigastric pain for several months. Physical examination and laboratory findings were normal. Ultrasonography and abdominal computerized tomography showed a low attenuation splenic mass suggesting lymphoma. However, the pathologic findings of the resected spleen were consistent with those of the inflammatory pseudotumor. The spleen weighed 230 g containing a 6×5×5 cm-sized, well-circumscribed gray mass. The microscopic findings indicated the inflammatory cell infiltrations. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2003;42:168-171)

The potential biological activities of water and ethanol extracts from two varieties of Rubus coreanus Miquel fruits produced in the Gochang-gun (GR) and Hoengseong-gun (HR) regions of Korea were examined. The hydroxyl radical ( OH) scavenging activity, reducing power, lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity, and antiproliferative activity on cancer cells by these extracts were examined, and α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition assays were also performed. The EtOH extract from GR showed high hydroxyl radical scavenging activity (EC50=119.47±5.13 ㎍/mL), lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity (EC50=213.45±3.14 ㎍/mL) and a concentration dependence, with OD values ranging from 0.15 to 0.56 (50 to 200 ㎍/mL), for reducing power. The EtOH extract from GR has the highest antiproliferative activities on MDA-MB-231 and HepG2 cancer cells among four extracts. Meanwhile, all extracts showed certain α-amylase and α-glucosidase inhibition activities. These results indicate that extracts from two varieties of R. coreanus fruits have significant antioxidant, anti-diabetic and anti-tumorigenic activities, which suggest these extracts could be a potential source for pharmaceutical.

There has been very little reported on ginsenoside composition and antioxidant activity of hydroponic-cultured ginseng roots (HCR), leaves (HCL), and stems (HCS). We profiled 6 ginsenoside compounds in HCR, HCL, and HCS using high-performance liquid chromatography. Antioxidative activity of HCR, HCL, and HCS were evaluated using total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC), 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free-radical-scavenging activity assays, and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays. Total ginsenoside contents of HCL and HCS were significantly higher than that of HCR (P<0.05). Rb1 was detected in HCR (23.02 mg/g) but was detected at very low levels in HCL and HCS (2.07∼7.30 mg/g). Rg1 was the most abundant ingredient in HCL, followed by Rd; this was different than for HCR and HCS. The TPC and TFC ranged from 52.82∼155.31 mg gallic acid equivalent/100 g and 194.71∼256.52 mg quercetin equivalent/100 g, respectively, of which HCL contained the highest levels. Moreover, HCL was the most effective in both DPPH and FRAP activities. In this study, we also evaluated the inhibitory effect of HCR, HCL, and HCS on the activities of mushroom tyrosinase through whitening activity test. The inhibitory effect of HCL on tyrosinase activity was higher than that of HCR and HCS. This study provides information about ginsenoside contents and the antioxidative activity of hydroponic-cultured ginseng, and suggests that the whole ginseng plant (including roots, leaves, and stems) may be a beneficial functional vegetables.
