Study Design: This study adopted a cross-sectional study design.Purpose: This study was designed to investigate the effects of bone cross-link bridging on fracture mechanism and surgical outcomes in vertebral fractures using the maximum number of vertebral bodies with bony bridges between adjacent vertebrae without interruption (maxVB).Overview of Literature: The complex interplay of bone density and bone bridging in the elderly can complicate vertebral fractures, necessitating a better understanding of fracture mechanics. Methods: We examined 242 patients (age >60 years) who underwent surgery for thoracic to lumbar spine fractures from 2010 to 2020. Subsequently, the maxVB was classified into three groups: maxVB (0), maxVB (2–8), and maxVB (9–18), and parameters, including fracture morphology (new Association of Osteosynthesis classification), fracture level, and neurological deficits were compared. In a sub-analysis, 146 patients with thoracolumbar spine fractures were classified into the three aforementioned groups based on the maxVB and compared to determine the optimal operative technique and evaluate surgical outcomes. Results: Regarding the fracture morphology, the maxVB (0) group had more A3 and A4 fractures, whereas the maxVB (2–8) group had less A4 and more B1 and B2 fractures. The maxVB (9–18) group exhibited an increased frequency of B3 and C fractures. Regarding the fracture level, the maxVB (0) group tended to have more fractures in the thoracolumbar transition region. Furthermore, the maxVB (2–8) group had a higher fracture frequency in the lumbar spine area, whereas the maxVB (9–18) group had a higher fracture frequency in the thoracic spine area than the maxVB (0) group. The maxVB (9–18) group had fewer preoperative neurological deficits but a higher reoperation rate and postoperative mortality than the other groups. Conclusions: The maxVB was identified as a factor influencing fracture level, fracture type, and preoperative neurological deficits. Thus, understanding the maxVB could help elucidate fracture mechanics and assist in perioperative patient management.
Origin of Spherule Samples Recovered from Antarctic Ice Sheet-Terrestrial or Extraterrestrial?
Sekimoto, Shun,Kobayashi, Takayuki,Takamiya, Koichi,Ebihara, Mitsuru,Shibata, Seiichi Korean Nuclear Society 2016 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.48 No.2
Thirty-eight spherules from the Antarctic ice sheet were analyzed using neutron activation analysis under two different conditions to investigate their origin. In almost all of these spherules, the contents of iron, cobalt, and manganese were determined to be 31% to 88%, 17 mg/kg to 810 mg/kg, and 0.017% to 7%, respectively. A detectable iridium content of 0.84 mg/kg was found in only one spherule, which was judged to be extraterrestrial in origin. A comparison of elemental compositions of the Antarctic spherules analyzed in this study with those of deep-sea sediment spherules and those of terrestrial materials revealed that most of the Antarctic spherules except for the sample in which iridium was detected could not be identified as extraterrestrial in origin.
Soft Modes in SrTi18O3 Studied by Light Scattering and Dielectric Measurements
Yohei Nakata,Mika Kobayashi,Mitsuru Itoh,Ruiping Wang,Toshirou Yagi,Yuhji Tsujimi 한국물리학회 2005 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.46 No.1
Light-scattering and dielectric easurements have been carried out, mainly in SrTi18O3, to clarify the physical origin of the two modes (Eu1 and Eu2) which were supposed to originate from a doubly degenerated ferroelectric Eu soft mode. The combined results of both measurements strongly suggest that the Eu1 and Eu2 modes correspond to the polarization uctuation parallel to the spontaneous polarization Ps (the mode of A1 symmetry) and to that perpendicular to Ps (the mode of B2 symmetry), respectively.
Permeability imaging in granitic rocks based on surface resistivity profiling
Sudo Hiroshi,Tanaka Toshikazu,Kobayashi Tsuyoshi,Kondo Tatsutoshi,Takahashi Toru,Miyamoto Masaharu,Amagai Mitsuru Korean Society of Earth and Exploration Geophysici 2004 지구물리와 물리탐사 Vol.7 No.1
In order to image the distribution of permeability in granitic rocks, we carried out two-dimensional (2D) resistivity profiling, together with in-situ permeability tests, electrical logging of boreholes, and resistivity measurements of rock core samples in a laboratory. Based on the electrical logging and in-situ permeability data from boreholes, we obtained empirical equations which relate resistivity and permeability of the granitic rocks in the area studied. We then applied the empirical equation to a 2D resistivity section, to produce a 2D permeability section of the granitic rocks. In this paper, we present details of the field data and of the procedure for conversion from the resistivity section to a permeability section. The observed relationship between resistivity and permeability of the rocks is also discussed.
Hyper-Raman scattering of SrTi18O3
Yusuke Minaki,Yuhji Tsujimi,Makoto Nakanishi,Mika Kobayashi,Mitsuru Itoh,Ruiping Wang,Toshirou Yagi 한국물리학회 2003 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.42 No.IV
Hyper-Raman scattering experiment has been performed in the SrTi(18Ox 16O1..x)3 single crystal plate with x = 0:87. Raman inactive ferroelectric Eu Slater mode is directly detected in the tetragonal phase. The mode clearly shows a softening behavior and seems to cause the ferroelectric transition at Tc = 26 1 K.
Ship-to-Ship Radiocommunication Trial by Using Wireless LAN
Yasuyuki NIWA,Hisaya MOTOGI,Chihiro NISHIZAKI,Misako URAKAMI,Takahiro SETA,Mitsuru KOBAYASHI,Makiko MINAMI 국제이네비해양경제학회 2015 International Journal of e-Navigation and Maritime Vol.3 No.1
Seamless transfer of electronic information/data between ship-to-shore and vice versa and between ship-to-ship and shore-to-shore is being developed in the IMO e-Navigation strategy implementation plan (SIP). We have been focused on wireless LAN for ship-to-ship radiocommunication. In a former field radiocommunication trial, omni-directional antennas were used and a few hundred kbps throughput between two ships was measured, which was not enough for our research target (over 1Mbps). In order to get faster throughput, a field radiocommunication trial was carried out again with a few types of directional antennas and RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication) and the throughput between two ships was measured simultaneously. As a result, multi-path (2-path) model affected by the reflection of the sea surface was confirmed and also the characteristics of the directional antennas such as half-power angle were confirmed, but the measured throughput was fast enough to meet our expectation.

Study Design: Large cohort study of volunteers.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the severity of knee osteoarthritis, assessed using the Kellgren-Lawrence (KL) grading scale, and spinopelvic sagittal alignment in older adult volunteers.Overview of Literature: The relationship between spinopelvic alignment in the sagittal plane and knee osteoarthritis in the coronal plane is unclear. Methods: Volunteers over 50 years of age underwent radiographic analysis. Radiographic parameters including pelvic tilt (PT), pelvic incidence (PI), lumbar lordosis (LL), thoracic kyphosis, and sagittal vertical axis (SVA) were measured. The the three Scoliosis Research Society-Schwab sagittal modifiers (PT, SVA, I–LL) were categorized and the KL grade was assessed. Differences in spinopelvic parameters and Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) scores among KL grades were evaluated. Results: A total of 396 volunteers (160 men, 236 women; mean age, 74.4 years) were analyzed. PI–LL and PT in KL4 were significantly higher compared to that in the other KL grades. However, there were no significant group differences in SVA. In women, but not in men, higher frequencies of the worst modifier grade (++) were observed for PI–LL and PT in the KL3 and KL4 groups compared to those for the other KL grades. In women, the ODI score in KL4 was worse compared to that in the other KL grades. Conclusions: Individuals over 50 years of age with severe knee osteoarthritis had poor lumbo-pelvic sagittal alignment. Moreover, the progression severity of knee osteoarthritis had more impact onstronger relationship with lumbo-pelvic malalignment and disability-related low back pain in women than in men.
