        LncRNA TMPO-AS1 promotes esophageal squamous cell carcinoma progression by forming biomolecular condensates with FUS and p300 to regulate TMPO transcription

        Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most life- and health-threatening malignant diseases worldwide, especially in China. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as important regulators of tumorigenesis and tumor progression. However, the roles and mechanisms of lncRNAs in ESCC require further exploration. Here, in combination with a small interfering RNA (siRNA) library targeting specific lncRNAs, we performed MTS and Transwell assays to screen functional lncRNAs that were overexpressed in ESCC. TMPO-AS1 expression was significantly upregulated in ESCC tumor samples, with higher TMPOAS1 expression positively correlated with shorter overall survival times. In vitro and in vivo functional experiments revealed that TMPO-AS1 promotes the proliferation and metastasis of ESCC cells. Mechanistically, TMPO-AS1 bound to fused in sarcoma (FUS) and recruited p300 to the TMPO promoter, forming biomolecular condensates in situ to activate TMPO transcription in cis by increasing the acetylation of histone H3 lysine 27 (H3K27ac). Targeting TMPO-AS1 led to impaired ESCC tumor growth in a patient-derived xenograft (PDX) model. We found that TMPO-AS1 is required for cell proliferation and metastasis in ESCC by promoting the expression of TMPO, and both TMPO-AS1 and TMPO might be potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets in ESCC.

        Capture of CO2 from coal using chemical-looping combustion: Process simulation

        Coal direct chemical-looping combustion (CLC) and coal gasification CLC processes are the two basicapproaches for the application of the CLC technology with coal. Two different combined cycles with the overall thermalinput of 1,000MW (LHV) were proposed and simulated, respectively, with NiO/NiAl2O4 as an oxygen carrierusing the ASPEN software. The oxygen carrier circulation ratio in two CLC processes was calculated, and the influenceof the CLC process parameters on the system performance such as air reactor temperature and the turbine inletsupplementary firing temperature was investigated. Results found were that the circulation ratio of the oxygen carrierin the coal gasification CLC process is smaller than that in the coal direct CLC process. In the coal direct CLCcombined system, the system efficiency is 49.59% with the CO2 capture efficiency of almost 100%, assuming the airreactor temperature at 1,200 oC and the fuel reactor temperature at 900 oC. As a comparison, the system efficiency ofcoal gasification CLC combined system is 40.53% with the CO2 capture efficiency of 85.2% when the turbine inlet temperatureis at 1,350 oC. Increasing the supplementary firing rate or decreasing the air reactor temperature can increasethe system efficiency, but these will reduce the CO2 capture efficiency.

        Biotechnology : Microbial Desulfurization of Dibenzothiophene and 4,6-Dimethyldibenzothiophene in Dodecane and Straight-Run Diesel Oil

        The desulfurization of dibenzothiophene (DBT), 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DMDBT) and their mixture by lyophilized cells of Pseudomonas delafieldii R-8 was studied in the presence of dodecane. The desulfurization rate for 4,6-DMDBT was found to be about 40% in comparison with that for DBT. The desulfurization process for DBT and 4,6-DMDBT proceeded simultaneously without preference for either one. The desulfurization rate for each compound was decreased when they were mixed together. The extent of desulfurization of 4,6-DMDBT was increased with the increase of cell concentration and the decrease of the volume ratio of oil-to-water used. The specific desulfurization rate for 4,6-DMDBT could be reached to 10.4 mmol sulfur kg^(-1) (cell) h^(-1) [approximately 0.33 mg sulfur g^(-1) (cell) h^(-1)]. Pseudomonas delafieldii R-8 showed high desulfurization capability for straight-run diesel oil (containing 1,807 mg/L of sulfur). About 1,000 mg/L of sulfur in diesel oil was removed by resting cells of this strai in 24 h of reaction. The specific desulfurization rate was 8.75 mmol sulfur kg^(-1) (cell) h^(-1).

        Stratigraphic Sequence and Deposition-affected Compressibility of Fine-grained Sediments in the Ancient Yellow River Delta during the Late Pleistocene and Holocene

        To investigate the stratigraphic sequence in the ancient Yellow River Delta and further discuss the correlation of compressibility of undisturbed soils with depositional environments, two boreholes were drilled at Liyao test site in Cangzhou, Hebei Province, China. Some basic tests regarding to index properties were performed on sediments from one borehole, and oedometer test was conducted for the “undisturbed samples” collected from the other. The stratigraphic sequence in the study area is classified into four depositional systems in terms of sedimentation environment. Evaluation of sample disturbance shows that the “undisturbed samples” for oedometer test are just slightly disturbed in the sampling process. Since overall compressibility can be divided into intrinsic compressibility and additional one, the environmental factors that can affect soil microstructure are closely correlated with additional compressibility. Thus, the influencing mechanism of depositional rate on additional void index ΔIv was investigated quantitatively. Moreover, the relationship between floating range of yield stress and buried depth is established. Then, the additional compressibility of undisturbed samples can be evaluated with depositional rate and buried depth. Finally, the predicted overall compression curve with the proposed method in this study is compared with the measured curve to verify the reasonability and feasibility.

      • Empirical Bayesian Markov Chain Model for Random Model Change

        In this short paper we consider long term binary prediction of stock market by using empirical Bayesian Markov chain model. Our empirical Bayesian MC model is designed to accommodate random change of MC over time. Surprisingly enough, it is shown that empirical Bayesian MC model is homogeneous and has limiting distribution though it accommodates random model change over time. Empirical works are given to illustrate usefulness of our results.

        UF/UV/오존/촉매 공정을 이용한 축산폐수처리 시스템의 현장적용 가능성에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 UF막에 의한 여과와 UV/오존/촉매에 의한 고급산화를 결합한 하이브리드공정으로 축산폐수처리의 현장적용 가능성을 살펴보기 위하여 현장실험을 수행하였다. 현장실험결과, CODCr, CODMn, BOD, T-N의 제거율은 대체적으로 순환유량이 높고, 반응시간이 길어질수록 높아지는 경향을 보였다. 본 시스템을 이용한 Pilot plant의 축산폐수처리에서 8주의 운전기간 동안 SS는 평균 99%, CODCr 93%, CODMn 70%, BOD 94% 및 T-N은 80%의 안정된 처리효율을 얻을 수 있었다. This study was carried out for the feasibility of the field application of a combination system with UF membrane filtration and a hybrid process of UV / ozone / catalytic advanced oxidation systems for swine wastewater treatment. Results from field experiments in pilot plant showed that removal efficiencies of CODCr, CODMn, BOD and T-N have a tendency to increase when the flow circulation is higher and the reaction time is longer. During operation period in 8 weeks with this system, the SS removal rate was stable around 99.9%, CODCr 93%, CODMn 70%, BOD5 94% and T-N 80% averagely.

        UF/UV/O<sub>3</sub>/촉매 공정에 의한 축산폐수의 처리특성

        본 연구는 축산폐수처리를 위한 고급산화공정의 적용가능성과 처리효율 및 범위를 실험하여 축산폐수처리에 대한 기초 자료로 제시하고자 한다. 실행시에 폐수 속 부유물질의 존재는 자외선의 광원이 촉매에 효율적으로 조사에 영향을 주기 때문에 SS의 제거과정을 우선 행하였다. UF막의 효과적인 이용으로 SS는 거의 제거되었으며, 그다음 회분식 반응기에 고급산화공정으로 pH와 순환유량을 변화하면서 실험을 행한 결과 산성영역 특히 pH에서 처리 효과가 우수하게 나타났으며, 순환유량이 대체적으로 증가 할수록 제거효율이 높아지는 경향을 보였다. This study was performed to provide basic information for evaluating the efficiency and applicable extent of photo-catalysis for the treatment of swine wastewater. Presence of suspended solids in the wastewater may affect effectively irradiation of ultraviolet light and removal process of the dissolved organics At first, SS was almost removed through effective use of UF membrane. Resultly, application of advanced oxidation process in the batch reactor showed that removal efficiency was more excellent in acidic pH and increased with the circular flow.

        q-analogues of some results for the Apostol-Euler polynomials

        We investigate some bacic properties and the generating functions of q-Apostol-Euler polynomials of higher order. Several interesting relationships between the q-Apostol-Euler polynomials and q-Hurwitz-Lerch Zeta function are obtained. We also try to give some conjectures concerning the multiplication formulas of q-Apostol-Euler polynomials of higher order.

        Central limit theorem for quadratic errors of Nadaraya–Watson regression estimator under dependence

        In this paper, we derive the central limit theorem (CLT) for quadratic error where the Nadaraya-Watson regression estimator is employed under dependence. Our results may be applicable for various nonparametric regression models including nonlinear autoregressive model. In addition, we discuss the usefulness of our results for obtaining test statistics specifying a regression model under dependence. The proof uses CLT for variable degenerate U-statistics due to Kim and Luo (in press).

      • Pre-treatment Metabolic Tumor Volume and Total Lesion Glycolysis are Useful Prognostic Factors for Esophageal Squamous Cell Cancer Patients

        Objectives: To study application of the maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax), metabolic tumor volume (MTV) and total lesion glycolysis (TLG) with $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT for predicting prognosis of esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESC) patients. Methods: Eighty-six patients with ESC staged from I to IV were prospectively enrolled. Cisplatin-based chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) or palliative chemoradiotherapy were the main treatment methods and none received surgery. $^{18}F$-FDG PET/CT scans were performed before the treatment. SUVmax, MTV, and TLG were measured for the primary esophageal lesion and regional lymph nodes. Receiver operating characteristic curves (ROCs) were generated to calculate the P value of the predictive ability and the optimal threshold. Results: MTV and TLG proved to be good indexes in the prediction of outcome for the ESC patients. An MTV value of 15.6 ml and a TLG value of 183.5 were optimal threshold to predict the overall survival (OS). The areas under the curve (AUC) for MTV and TLG were 0.74 and 0.70, respectively. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed an MTV less than 15.6 ml and a TLG less than 183.5 to indicate good media survival time (p value <0.05). In the stage III-IV patient group, MTV could better predict the OS (P < 0.001), with a sensitivity and specificity of 0.80 and 0.67, respectively. Conclusions: Pre-treatment MTV and TLG are useful prognostic factors in nonsurgical ESC.
