        태연혈(太淵穴)의 유침 시간에 따른 체온 변화 -적외선체열촬영(赤外線體熱撮影)을 중심으로-

        Objectives: This study was performed to find the desirable remaining time of needle in the acupuncture treatment. Methods: The 21 volunteers were given acupuncture at LU9 vertically and needles were remained for 2 min, 10 min, 15 min, 30 min, respectively. The thermographic change induced by acupuncture was measured with Digital Infrared Thermographic Image at the following acupoints: LU11, LU10, LU9, LU8, LU5, LU1, and PC7. The statistical significance of thermographi change was evaluated using paired t-test and post hoc Wilcoxon test. Results: The most significant changes after acupuncture were produced when needles were remained for 10 min or 15 min. LU11, LU5, LU1, and PC7 were the point at which all of the remaining time produced significant change commonly. At LU11, the biggest change was produced when needle was remained for 15 min, while at LU5, LU1, and PC7, the biggest change was produced when needle was remained for 30 min, and the smallest change was produced when needle was remained for 10 min at all of acupoints of LU11, LU5, LU1, and PC7. The unbalance between left side and right was decreased the most largely in 15 min group. Conclusions: The results of this study suggest that the desirable remaining time of acupuncture needle might be 15 min.

        Ultrasonic Degradation of Endocrine Disrupting Compounds in Seawater and Brackish Water

        In this study, a series of experiments was conducted on the relative degradation of commonly known endocrine-disrupting compounds such as bisphenol A (BPA) and 17α-ethinyl estradiol (Ee₂) in a single-component aqueous solution using 28 and 580 kHz ultrasonic reactors. The experiments were conducted with three different types of model water: deionized water (DI), synthetic brackish water (SBW), and synthetic seawater (SSW) at pH 4, 7.5, and 11 in the presence of inert glass beads and humic acids. Significantly higher sonochemical degradation (93-97% for BPA) occurred at 580 kHz than at 28 kHz (43-61% for BPA), regardless of water type. A slightly higher degradation was observed for Ee₂ compared to that of BPA. The degradation rate of BPA and Ee₂ in DI water, SBW, and SSW after 30 min of ultrasound irradiation at 580 kHz increased slightly with the increase in pH from 4 (0.073-0.091 min-1 for BPA and 0.081-0.094 min-1 for Ee₂) to 7.5 (0.087-0.114 min-1 for BPA and 0.092?0.124 min-1 for Ee₂). In contrast, significant degradation was observed at pH 11 (0.149-0.221 min-1 for BPA and 0.147-0.228 min-1 for Ee₂). For the given frequencies of 28 and 580 kHz, the degradation rate increased in the presence of glass beads (0.1 mm and 25 g) for both BPA and Ee₂: 0.018-0.107 min-1 without beads and 0.052-0.142 min-1 with beads for BPA; 0.021-0.111 min-1 without beads and 0.054-0.136 min-1 with beads for Ee₂. A slight increase in degradation of both BPA and Ee₂ was found as the concentration of dissolved organic carbon (DOC, humic acids) increased in both SBW and SSW: 0.107-0.115 min-1 in SBW and 0.087-0.101 min-1 in SSW for BPA; 0.111-0.111 min-1 in SWB and 0.092-0.105 min-1 in SSW for Ee₂. After 30 min of sonicating the humic acid solution, DOC removal varied depending on the water type: 27% (3 mg L-1) and 7% (10 mg L-1) in SBW and 7% (3 mg L-1) and 4% (10 mg L-1) in SSW.

      • Effect of 840 nm light-emitting diode(LED) Irradiation on Monosodium Iodoacetate-Induced Osteoarthritis in Rats

        Background The objective of this study was to evaluate whether 840 nm light-emitting diode (LED) could be effective in a noninvasive, therapeutic device for the treatment of monosodium iodoacetate-induced osteoarthritis in rats. Method Twenty male Sprague-Dawley rats weighing approximately 200 g each were divided into four groups: control group (C); monosodium iodoacetate-treated(MIA) group; monosodium iodoacetate-treated(MIA) group with LED phototherapy(MIA-LED); indomethacin-treated group(IMT). Osteoarthritis(OA) was induced by intra-articular injection of 50 μl of 3 mg MIA through the patellar ligament of the right knee. Control rats were injected with an equivalent volume of saline. In the MIA-LED group, the animal knees were exposed to LED stimulation at intervals of 15 min/day, for 1 weeks after MIA treatment. Animals were sacrificed at 2 weeks postoperatively. Knee joints were removed and fixed overnight in 10% neutral buffered formalin and subsequently decalcified by EDTA for 2 wk before being embedded in paraffin. Frontal sections (4 μm thick) of the medial aspect of the rat knee joints were prepared every 250 μm. The OA clinical score was monitored by knee movement and by radiographic analyses. Histologic analyses were performed following staining with hematoxylin and eosin, Safranin O-fast green, or toluidine blue, and histologic changes were scored according to a modified Mankin system. Results Radiographic examination showed no differences between the MIA-treated and the MIA-LED-treated rats. Sclerotic regions adjacent to the tibioepiphyseal margin, thinning of the epiphysis, and a small exophite were evident in the MIA-treated and the MIA-LED-treated rats, whereas tibioepiphyseal margin was well preserved in the IMT-treated rats compared with the two groups. Histologically, the lesion severity of knee joint by Mankin``s scoring showed not a significant difference between the MIA-treated and the MIA-LED-treated rats, however the lesion score was significantly decreased in the IMT rats compared with the two groups. Discussion The irradiation of LED at 840 nm after monosodium idoacetate treatment was no significant difference between the respective arthritis parameters in LED-treated group compared with indomethacin-treated group. However, the total Mankin score was significantly decreased in MIA-LED-treated group compared with monosodium iodoacetate-treated group. These results indicate that LED phototherapy was some beneficial influence on the repair of chondral lesion in osteoarthritis rats.

        연구 논문 : 전기화학적 마이크로머시닝 기술을 이용한 균일한 니오븀 표면 에칭 연구

        본 연구에서는 micro-contact printing을 통하여 니오븀 호일 표면 위에 균일한 에칭 pits를 형성하였다. 균일한 보호층을 형성하고자 전해연마의 효과를 확인하였으며, 기존의 O2 플라즈마 공정 없이 손쉽게 균일한 에칭 pits를 형성시킬 수 있는 조건을 확인하였다. 메탄올 혼합 전해질을 사용하여 10 min 동안 에칭을 진행한 결과 니오븀 호일 표면 위에 지름과 간격이 각각 10 μm와 5 μm로 잘 정렬된 에칭 pits를 관찰하였다. We describe the preparation of highly-ordered etching pits on the Nb foil through a micromachining. The effects of electro-chemical polishing on the formation of uniformly-patterned protective epoxy layer was investigated. Unlike the previous proc-ess using O2 plasma, well-ordered etched pits were prepared without any dry processes. As a result, the Nb foil with the well-ordered pits of 10 μm × 5 μm could be obtained by electrochemical etching in methanolic electrolytes for 10 min.

      • Exploiting Microwave Chemistry for Activation of Metal-Organic Frameworks

        <P>Microwave is thought of as a useful electromagnetic radiation tool because it is often used in real life as well as in a variety of chemical processes. Meanwhile, activation of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), which must be essentially done to remove coordinating and pore-filling solvents before the use of MOFs for various applications, has been performed commonly with the methods of heat supply or solvent exchange. Here, we show a new methodological microwave activation (MA), realizing it with various MOFs such as HKUST-1, UiO-66, and MOF-74s. For instance, microwave irradiation to the MOF samples for 4-35 min leads to the complete activation of the MOFs without structural damage. As described below, we further demonstrate that the solvent-assisted MA, which is the MA process performed after the solvent exchange, can substantially reduce the time for the activation by 4 min.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

        Korean physician prescription patterns for home oxygen therapy in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients

        Background/Aims: Hypoxemia in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) leads to reduced ability to exercise, decreased quality of life, and, eventually, increased mortality. Home oxygen therapy in patients with severe COPD reduces distress symptoms and mortality rates. However, there have been few studies on physicians’ prescription behavior toward home oxygen therapy. Therefore, we investigated the respiratory specialists’ perspective on home oxygen therapy. Methods: In this cross-sectional, study, a questionnaire was completed by 30 pulmonary specialists who worked in tertiary hospitals and prescribed home oxygen therapy. The questionnaire consisted of 28 items, including 15 items on oxygen prescription for outpatients, four for inpatients, and nine on service improvement. Results: All physicians were prescribing less than 2 L/min of oxygen for either 24 (n = 10, 33.3%) or 15 hours (n = 9, 30.3%). All (n = 30) used pulse oximetry, 26 (86.7%) analyzed arterial blood gas. Thirteen physicians had imposed restrictions and recommended oxygen use only during exercise or sleep. Sixteen (53.3%) physicians were educating their patients about home oxygen therapy. Furthermore, physicians prescribed home oxygen to patients that did not fit the typical criteria for long-term oxygen therapy, with 30 prescribing it for acute relief and 17 for patients with borderline hypoxemia. Conclusions: This study identified the prescription pattern of home oxygen therapy in Korea. Respiratory physicians prescribe home oxygen therapy to hypoxemic COPD patients for at least 15 hours/day, and at a rate of less than 2 L/ min. More research is needed to provide evidence for establishing policies on oxygen therapy in COPD patients.

        헬스케어용 가다랑어(Katsuwonus pelamis) 통조림의 제조 및 특성

        This study was conducted to prepare canned skipjack tuna Katsuwonus pelamis in the mixture of isotonic beverage and tomato paste (ST-S) for use as a health food. An analysis of the time-temperature profile and viable cells showed that a reasonable F0 value for ST-S preparation was 4 min. The proximate composition of ST-S was 76.8% moisture, 20.2% crude protein, 0.8% crude lipid, 1.7% ash and 0.5% carbohydrate. The calorie content of ST-S was 94.8 kcal, which is 47.4% lower than that of commercial canned skipjack tuna in oil (ST-O) and 2.2% lower than that of commercial chicken breast in water (CB-B). The total amino acid content of ST-S was 18.54 g/100 g, which is 31.4% lower than that of ST-O and 7.9% lower than that of CB-B. The major amino acids in ST-S were aspartic acid and glutamic acid. An enrichment effect due to such minerals as phosphorus, potassium and iron would be expected on consuming 100 g of ST-S. The major fatty acids in ST-S were 16:0 (27.4%), 18:1n-9 (14.3%) and 22:6n-3 (27.8%), which are different from those in ST-O and CB-B. The major free amino acids in ST-S were glutamic acid (8.1%), histidine (38.6%) and its related dipeptide, such as anserine (15.7%). In an evaluation of taste, flavor and color, ST-S was found to be superior to ST-O and CB-B.

        물리적 처리에 의한 강력분 밀가루 Gliadin의 항원성 변화

        본 연구에서는 가압가열 및 microwave 처리가 gliadin의 항원성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위해 강력분에 가압가열과 microwave를 단독 또는 병행으로 처리하여 Ci-ELISA, SDS-PAGE 및 immunoblotting을 실시하였다. 가압가열 처리의 경우 시간이 길어질수록 IgG와의 결합력이 감소하였으며, 특히 50분 처리구에서 약 87%로 가장 낮은 결합력을 보였다. 또한 SDS-PAGE와 immunoblotting 결과에서도 무처리구에서 강하게 보였던 gliadin band가 가압가열처리에 의해 거의 소실되고 항체와 반응하지 않았다. 가압가열 및 microwave를 병행 처리 시도 마찬가지로 gliadin의 결합력이 감소하였으며, 처리구 중 가압가열 50분, microwave 5분 처리구에서 약 93%로 가장 낮은 결합력을 보였다. 반면 microwave를 단독으로 처리한 경우에는 일부 단백질의 변화는 관찰되었으나, 항원성 감소에는 효과가 없음을 확인하여 단백질 변화가 항원성에는 큰 효과를 준 것 같지 않다. 이상의 결과를 통해 가압가열 단독 처리 및 가압가열 및 microwave의 병행처리 시 gliadin의 항원성이 감소함을 확인하였다. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of physical treatments on the antigenicity of gliadin in strong wheat flour. Strong wheat flour was treated with an autoclave (5, 10, 30, 50 min), a microwave (1, 5, 10 min), or both (10, 30, 50 min/ 5, 10 min), followed by SDS-PAGE, immunoblotting, and Ci-ELISA using anti-gliadin IgG. The results indicated that the binding ability of IgG to gliadin in strong wheat flour slightly decreased after autoclaving or autoclaving/microwaving. In particular, the binding ability was reduced to about 87% after autoclaving for 50 min and to 89% after autoclaving/microwaving (50/5 min). In addition, gliadin bands in the 50 min autoclaved group disappeared in both SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting. On the other hand, the antigenicity of gliadin was unaffected by microwaving alone. In conclusion, the results of this study suggest that autoclaving may reduce the antigenicity of gliadin in strong wheat flour.

        오이 추출물에 존재하는 Superoxide Dismutase의 열안정성

        오이속의 조효소액에 존재하는 Superoxide dismutase(SOD)활성의 pH 안정성은 pH 8.0에서 가장 안정하였고 pH5.0~9.0 사이의 범위에서는 비교적 안정하였다. 최적 온도는 25℃였고 열 안정성은 60℃까지는 안정하였다. 100℃에서 5분간 보관하였을 경우에는 12%만이 남아있었다. 오이에 존재하는 SOD 활성이 섭취 후에도 안정한가를 확인하기 위한 실험에서는 위속의 pH와 동일하도록 오이속의 조효소액의 pH를 2.0으로 변형시킨 후 36.7℃에서 3시간 동안 보관 후에 잔존활성이 10%였고, 장내의 환경인 pH 7.0으로 바꾸어 6시간 동안 둔 후 잔존하는 SOD의 활성은 25%로 활성이 증가되었다. 다양한 열처리 후에 잔존하는 오이의 SOD활성은 오이속은 데치기에서(끓는 물에서 2분) 25%, 껍질은 찌는 동안에(3분) 53%, 그리고 속과 껍질로 분리하지 않은 오이는 데치기에서 27%의 활성잔존률을 보였다. 4℃에서는 20일간 보관한 후에 오이속의 조효소액은 81%활성이 있었고, 30℃에서는 17%의 활성이 남아 있었다. 투석한 결과 SOD의 활성은 변화가 없었으므로 오이속에 존재하는 SOD는 적어도 분자량이 12,000 이상의 물질로 추정된다. The superoxide dismutase(SOD) in peeled pericarp of cucumber was most stable at pH 8.0 and relatively stabe between pH 5.0 and 9.0. The enzyme was stable up to 60℃ and retained 12% by heat treatment at 100℃ for 5 min. At pH 2.0, the peeled pericarp enzyme activity was decreased to 10% by incubation for 3 hrs. However, the enzyme activity was increased above 25% after incubating the enzyme at pH 7.0 for 6 hrs. Retention of SOD activity in cucumber by various heating methods was also measured. The residual SOD activities of peeled pericarp and whole cucumber was estimated to be 25% and 27% after blanching (2 min), respectively. The skin enzyme retained 53% of its activity after steaming (3 min). When the peeled peri carp enzyme was incubated at 4℃ for 20 days, the enzyme activity remained about 81%. However, when the enzyme incubated at 30℃ for 20 days, the peeled pericarp enzyme activity decreased to 17% of its original activity. The enzyme activity of peeled pericarp cucumber was not changed after exhaustive dialysis for 3 days, which indicated that the SOD activity in cucumber seems to have molecular weight above 12,000.

        경북대 캠퍼스 내 대기환경 및 미규모 모델(MUKLIMO)을 이용한 바람장 모의 연구

        Elements of atmospheric environment, temperature, humidity and wind, at the compus of KNU(Kyungpook National University) were investigated by the observations. The observed data were compared with those of DWS (Daegu Weather Station). The simulations of wind field and dispersions of polluted gases were conducted by MUKLIMO under the various conditions. The results show that the atmospheric environment of KNU are suitable but the campus does not play role as a heat sink in the city. The simulations of wind field show the air flows and wind channels in the campus clearly. The exhausted gases by motor vehicles on the northside street of campus affect very much to the campus with NW(300˚) wind. The running cars in the campus are also pollute much on the campus with the various wind directions. The characteristics of environmental conditions, various meteorological fields, wind channels, and dispersion of exhausted gases at the campus of KNU were understood quantitatively in the study.
