High-field Multi-frequency ESR in the S=2 Heisenberg Antiferromagnetic Chain Compound MnCl3(bpy)
Masayuki Hagiwara,Masami Ikeda,Yuichi Idutsu,Shojiro Kimura,Zentaro Honda 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.12
We report the results of high-field multi-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR) experimentson a powder sample of MnCl3 (bpy) (bpy=2, 2’-bipyridine). This compound is one of the rareexamples of the spin (S) 2 quasi one-dimensional (1D) Heisenberg antiferromagnets (HAFs), andmagnetic properties of tiny single crystal samples were reported previously (G. E. Granroth et al.,Phys. Rev. Lett. 77, 1616 (1996).). In our previous paper on this compound (M. Hagiwara et al.,J. Phys.: Conf. Ser. 400, 032014 (2012).), we reported, for the S=2 1D HAF, good agreementbetween experiment and calculation for the temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility andthe high-field magnetization process at 1.3 K. In this work, we have observed some high-frequencyresonance modes with zero-field gaps of about 800 GHz that may correspond to antiferromagneticresonance modes with orthorhombic anisotropy in a long-range-ordered phase that emerged at lowtemperatures above the critical field at which the energy gap (Haldane gap) closes. The single-ionanisotropy constant D evaluated from the analysis of these ESR modes is larger than that reportedpreviously.

Photoluminescence (PL) imaging is curried out using Cr doped spinel sensors at various temperatures for 2-dimensional fluorescence thermometer application. PL images can be clearly observed using a CCD camera and UV, green and/or blue LED illuminations. Brightness of PL images from Cr doped spinel sensor decrease with temperature up to 250 oC. PL imaging is suggested to be useful for 2-dimensional fluorescence thermometer applications.

We have investigated the angular dependence of the upper critical fields (µ0Hc2) of a single crystalof Fe1+(Te,Se) in pulsed high magnetic fields up to 52 T. At T = 10 K, the µ0Hc2 increases withincreasing , which is the angle between the c-axis and the direction of the applied magnetic field. Using the effective-mass model based on the three-dimensional anisotropic Ginzburg-Landau (G-L)theory, we estimate the effective-mass anisotropy ratio= (mc /mab)1/2 to be 1.6 at 10 K. Thisresult is consistent with that of our previous study on the anisotropy coefficient of the resistiveupper critical field,
Multi-frequency ESR in EuFe2As2
Masami Ikeda,Masayuki Hagiwara,Tatsuya Kobayashi,Wataru Hirata,Shigeki Miyasaka,Setsuko Tajima 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.12
We have performed multi-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements on EuFe2As2,which is one of the parent compounds of Fe-based superconductors. At TSDW=190 K, this compoundshows a spin-density-wave (SDW) transition. At temperatures above TSDW, the relaxationof Eu2+ spins takes place via the coupling of conduction electrons, resulting in a Korringa-type increasein the linewidth. At temperatures below TSDW, however, this compound shows an anisotropictemperature-independent linewidth except at temperatures near the long-range ordering temperature(19 K) of Eu2+ spins, giving evidence for a gap opening at TSDW. This change of physicalproperties indicates a change in the exchange interaction between localized Eu2+ spins and conductionelectrons in the FeAs layers. We evaluate the exchange constant, which was not reported inprevious X-band ESR studies, and compare it with the value for another Eu metallic compound.
Antiferromagnetic Resonance in the Quasi-one-dimensional Magnet IPACu(ClxBr1−x)3 (x=0.83)
Takahito Fujita,Masayuki Hagiwara,Hirotaka Manaka 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.12
We have performed multi-frequency electron spin resonance (ESR) and magnetization measurementson single crystals of the quasi one-dimensional magnet IPACu(ClxBr1−x)3 (x=0.83) in magneticfields H along the b-axis at temperatures below an antiferromagnetic long-range orderingtemperature (TN ' 13 K). We observed some ESR branches for typical antiferromagnetic modeswith biaxial anisotropy at 1.5 K ( TN). We have analyzed the magnetization curve and the ESRexcitation modes for Hkb by using a two sub-lattice model and obtained good agreement betweenexperiment and calculation. In addition, we show that the origin of a field-induced magnetizationjump is a spin-flop transition. These results show that the phase at temperatures below TN in thisCl-Br mixed compound can be described as a simple two sub-lattice antiferromagnet.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of third-line combined androgen blockade (CAB) therapy for castration-resistant prostate cancer that relapsed after primary and second-line CAB. We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 52 patients who received first-, second-, and third-line CAB therapy (medical or surgical castration, plus steroidal antiandrogen of chlormadinone acetate, or nonsteroidal antiandrogen of flutamide or bicalutamide). For cumulative analysis, we searched the PubMed database and identified a total of 50 cases published in English. Including our cases, this provided a total of 102 cases for analysis. In our study cohort, 11 cases (21.2%) achieved more than 50% reduction of serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) on initiation of third-line CAB. We found that third-line CAB with nonsteroidal antiandrogen after second-line CAB with steroidal antiandrogen exhibited favorable results, with a positive response in six of 13 patients (46.2%). Cumulative analysis findings were comparable. Regarding the timing of third-line CAB administration, 15 patients had started at a PSA equal to or less than 4.0 ng/ml, and eight of them (53.3%) showed a positive response to treatment, compared to only three of 37 patients (8.1%) whose PSA at the initiation of third-line therapy was higher than 4.0 ng/ml (p<0.001). We conclude that third-line CAB with nonsteroidal antiandrogen would be particularly useful for patients whose cancer progressed after second-line CAB with steroidal antiandrogen. The timing of treatment seems to be important because the higher the PSA at the start of third-line therapy, the lower the PSA response rate.

Spinel crystals (Cr doped MgAl2O4) with various Cr2O3 and MgO concentrations are grown using floating zone technique for fluorescence thermometer application. Temperature dependence of photoluminescence (PL) intensity is evaluated using spinel crystal and/or composite of spinel with silicone resin. PL intensity from spinel crystal and composite decreases linearly with temperature. Spenel crystal and composite are useful as sensor materials in fluorescence thermometer.

Hirotaka Kasai,Yoshihiro Kameyama,Toru Hagiwara,Daisuke Ishikawa,Toru Katsumata,Hiroaki Aizawa,Mitsuo Honda,Masayuki Shibasaki,Koichi Otsubo,Shuji Komuro 제어로봇시스템학회 2008 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2008 No.10
Temperature monitoring is essentially important for stable control of fabrication processes. In order to develop a convenient 2-dimensional temperature monitoring system using a thermo-paint, photoluminescence (PL) images are observed from the luminous paints at various temperatures. Commercially available and in-house modified luminous paints are evaluated for improving temperature sensitivity and stability of the thermo-paints. Temperature dependences of PL images from various luminous paints are reported for developing temperature monitoring procedure using a thermo-paint.

A powder and field-aligned samples of the 3d-4f bimetallic polymeric chain[Dy(NO3)(DMSO)2Cu(opba)(DMSO)2, DMSO: Dimethyl-sulfoxide, opba: ortho-phenylenebis(oxalato)] built from alternating dysprosium(3+) and copper(2+) ions are magnetic investigatedin detail. The magnetic alignment for the powder is successful indicated by the remarkablemagnetic anisotropy at low temperature. The high-field magnetization of the powder sample wasmeasured at the temperatures down to 1.3 K and in magnetic fields up to 52 T. The high-fieldmagnetization of the powder sample is in reasonably accordance with theoretical predictions for aspin-1/2 chain of alternating Ising and Heisenberg spins. The present study thus provides the firsthigh-field investigation of a new type of Ising-Heisenberg spin alternating chain.
