        Cathode Materials LaNi1−xCuxO3 for Low Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells

        New cathode materials LaNi1−xCuxO3 (typically LaNi0.8Cu0.2O3) were synthesized using a co-precipitation method. The structure and morphology of the powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The composite material [Ce0.8Sm0.2O2-ä(SDC) and carbonate (Na2CO3,Li2CO3)], NiO and LaNi1−xCuxO3 were used as the electrolyte, anode and cathode, respectively. The electrochemical performance of La-Ni-Cu-O perovskite oxide at low temperatures (400~550oC) was studied. The results showed that LaNi0.8Cu0.2O3 precursor powder prepared through a co-precipitation method and calcined at 860oC for 2 h formed uniform grains with diameters in the range of 400~500 nm. The maximum power density and the short circuit current density of the single cell unit at 550oC were found to be 390 mW/cm2 and 968 mA/cm2, respectively.       • Formation of [3]Catenanes from 10 Precursors via Multicomponent Coordination-Driven Self-Assembly of Metallarectangles

        <P>We describe the formation of a suite of [3]catenanes via multicomponent coordination-driven self-assembly and host–guest complexation of a rectangular scaffold comprising a 90° Pt-based acceptor building block with a pseudorotaxane bis(pyridinium)ethane/dibenzo-24-crown-8 linear dipyridyl ligand and three dicarboxylate donors. The doubly threaded [3]catenanes are formed from a total of 10 molecular components from four unique species.         Establishment and Evaluation of National Power Index System: Evidence from Evidence‐Based Analysis

        National power is the basis of the current competition and game betweenglobal sovereign states. It is the organic integration and concentratedexpression of the multi-dimensional and complex factors of politics, econ-omy, society, culture, ecology, value system, and history of any country.Due to the complexity of national power and the non-objectivity of theassessment, the concept of national power and assessment must be con-structed using multiple levels of evidence. Therefore, this paper constructsa three-level evidence chain national power index system based on the sys-tematic literature review, public value theory, and expert scoring, andtakes the G20 countries as an example to measure the change and motiveforce of national power of the major countries in the world from 1992 to2017. Research shows that national power is fundamentally dependent onthe creation of multiple public values, and the trend of“weak countriesgetting weaker and strong countries getting stronger”among countries hasstrengthened. The increase of national power in different types of valuepower is not synchronous, but there are key points and outstandingimprovements.

        An Innovative Training Program on Engineering Education

        From 2010, an "excellent engineer" undergraduate and graduate program had been initiated in higher education of China to promote the development of industry and social economy. In this circumstance, the engineering education programs in Dalian Maritime University are reformed to satisfy the requirements of transportation industries. And the engineering practice, engineering activities, and engineering courses are emphasized. In this training program, industrial communities are deeply involved in the engineering education and training procedure; the students are educated and trained in university and enterprise according to the common standards and industrial standards; and the engineering competences and creative ability are emphasized and are to be enhanced in the training schedules and procedure. A joint-training mode has been established already between Dalian Maritime University and enterprises in transportation fields.

        The identification of growth, immune related genes and marker discovery through transcriptome in the yellow drum (Nibea albiflora)

        Yellow drum (Nibea albiflora) is a commercially important marine fish, which is widely distributed in the coastal waters of China, Japan and Korea. Wild yellow drum resources have dramatically declined due to overfishing and ocean pollution. Genetic data can contribute to biodiversity conservation and protection. And molecular markers can play important roles in genetic breeding and aid in germplasm preservation in fish. In this study, 11 tissues (brain, heart, liver, kidney, muscle, head kidney, skin, fin, spleen, gonad and air bladder) were collected for pooled RNA sequencing. The unigenes were assembled using Trinity and EvidentialGene, and were then aligned to nr, nt, Swiss-Prot GO, KEGG, and KOG for annotation. Molecular markers (e.g. simple sequence repeat, SSR and single nucleotide polymorphism, SNP) were detected using MIcroSAtellite identification tool (MISA) and Genome Analysis Tool Kit (GATK). All clean reads were assembled into 109,209 transcripts, and 31,183 unigenes were generated after pruning and classifying, ranging from 201 to 19,857 bp in length (1230 bp in average), and 26,728 (85.7%) assembled unigenes had significant hits in public databases. Total of 27 and 103 unigenes were respectively identified as involved in growth- and immune-related pathways in the N. albiflora transcriptome. In addition, we identified a considerable quantity of molecular markers, including 11,484 SSRs and 56,186 SNPs. The growth- and immunerelevant genes and the molecular markers identified here provided a meaningful reference gene set and laid a foundation for future genetic selection and breeding for this species.

        Response variability of juvenile hormone and juvenile hormone analogs in workers of the Formosan subterranean termite (Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki)

        Juvenile hormone (JH) or juvenile hormone analog (JHA) can induce soldier formation in termites. However, different studies have yielded inconsistent results on the effects of JHA on soldier production in Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki. Using filter paper as the testing substrate, the effects of JH III, pyriproxyfen and methoprene on the intact filter paper left, worker mortality and presoldier formation were tested on six colonies. Our results showed that pyriproxyfen and methoprene were more repellent than JH III. No significant difference in toxicity was observed among methoprene, pyriproxyfen and JH III. JH III and pyriproxyfen did not cause workers to differentiate into presoldiers, but methoprene can induce formation of presoldiers. Colony response variability to methoprene was observed. The confirmation of the effects of JH/JHA on C. formosanus establishes the foundation for molecular studies of soldier differentiation in this species.

        Effects of Casein and Protein-free Diets on Endogenous Amino Acid Losses in Pigs

        Quantification of endogenous amino acid loss at the terminal ileum is an essential means for calculation of the true amino acid digestibility of a feedstuff. Since nitrogen appeared in the determined diet or not could shift the results very much, also, none of digestibility markers could be recovered with 100% rate at the terminal ileum, the objectives of the present study were: (1) to determine endogenous amino acid losses when fed either a casein diet or a protein-free diet and (2) to examine the reliability of chromic oxide or acid insoluble ash in the protein-free diet. Six ileal-cannulated pigs ($65{\pm}1.85 kg$ BW) with a simple T-cannula in the terminal ileum were used in a replicated $3{\times}3$ Latin square designed trial, after allowed a 14 d recuperation period. Each test period ran for 12 days comprised of a 10 d adjustment period and a 2 d collection period. The endogenous AA losses of His, Ile, Lys, Cys, Thr, Val, Trp, Asp, Glu, and Ser from pigs fed the casein diet were significantly higher than those of the protein-free diet (p<0.05). No significant difference was found in the amount of endogenous amino acid loss when determined with the different markers in the protein-free diet (p>0.05). These data suggest that endogenous amino acid loss could be underestimated when a protein-free diet is used. A direct effect of dietary peptides on the endogenous amino acid loss was found when the casein diet was fed. Our results also indicate that acid insoluble ash can be used as an inert marker as an alternative to chromic oxide when measuring endogenous amino acid loss.

        A Duplex PCR Assay for Rapid Detection of Phytophthora nicotianae and Thielaviopsis basicola

        A duplex PCR method was developed for simultaneous detection and identification of tobacco root rot pathogens Phytophthora nicotianae and Thielaviopsis basicola. The specific primers for P. nicotianae were developed based on its internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions of ribosomal gene, ras gene and hgd gene, while the specific primers for T. basicola were designed based on its ITS regions and β-tubulin gene. The specificity of the primers was determined using isolates of P. nicotianae, T. basicola and control samples. The results showed that the target pathogens could be detected from diseased tobacco plants by a combination of the specific primers. The sensitivity limitation was 100 fg/μl of pure genomic DNA of the pathogens. This new assay can be applied to screen out target pathogens rapidly and reliably in one PCR and will be an important tool for the identification and precise early prediction of these two destructive diseases of tobacco.

        Synthesis of Trilaminar Core–Shell Au/α-Fe2O3@SnO2 Nanocomposites and their Application for Nonenzymatic Dopamine Electrochemical Sensing

        Au nanoparticles anchored on core–shell α-Fe2O3@SnO2 nanospindles were successfully constructed through hydrothermal synthesis process and used for fabricating a novel nonenzymatic dopamine (DA) sensor. The structure and morphology of the Au/α-Fe2O3@SnO2 trilaminar nanohybrid film were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The electrochemical properties of the sensor were investigated by cyclic voltammetry and amperometry. The experimental results suggest that the composites have excellent catalytic property toward DA with a wide linear range from 0.5 μM to 0.47 mM, a low detection limit of 0.17 μM (S/N = 3) and high sensitivity of 397.1 μA mM -1 cm -2. In addition, the sensor exhibits long-term stability, good reproducibility and anti-interference.
