A facile and efficient synthetic route has been developed for the polyhydroquinoline via four component reactions of aldehydes, dimedone, ethyl acetoacetate and ammonium acetate in the presence of catalytic amount of scolecite in ethanol at 70 °C through Hantzsch reaction. This method gives remarkable advantages such as simple work-up procedure, environmentally friendly, inexpensive, non-toxic and recyclable catalyst, shorter reaction time along with excellent yields.

Background: Pain during fixed orthodontic treatment can have a detrimental effect on patient treatment compliance. To overcome this, there is a definite need to establish the best pain-relieving methods suitable for orthodontic patients in terms of efficacy and use. The objective of this study was to compare the effect of chewing gum and pre-emptive tenoxicam on pain after initial archwire placement and to evaluate the pain perceptions of orthodontic patients in the two groups while performing various functions at specific time intervals. Methods: Forty-two patients were selected and randomly divided into two groups: group A (chewing gum) and group B (pre-emptive tenoxicam). Pain perception was documented by patients immediately; at 4 h; at bedtime on the day of archwire placement; the next morning; at 24 h; and at bedtime on the 2nd, 3rd, and 7th day after the initial archwire placement. Pain scores were noted during fitting of the posterior teeth, biting, and chewing using a visual analog scale. The data obtained were subjected to statistical analysis. Results: Group A showed a significant increase in pain until the next morning while fitting the posterior teeth, biting, and chewing [36.2, 52.0, 33.4, respectively]], followed by a gradual decrease by the 7th day. Group B showed a significant increase in pain at bedtime on biting, with a peak value of 47.5. Pain on chewing, fitting posterior teeth, peaked the morning of the next day (100.0, 45.0). The Freidman test showed a statistically significant difference with a p-value of < 0.01. Higher pain scores were observed while chewing and biting compared with that while fitting the posterior teeth in both groups. The overall comparison of pain control between the two groups was not statistically significant [P > 0.05] between the two groups. Conclusions: Chewing gum was not inferior to pre-emptive tenoxicam. Thus, chewing gum is a non-pharmacological alternative to analgesics for orthodontic pain control that eliminates the chance of adverse reactions and can be used in the absence of adult observation.

A New Test of Attribute Significance for Nonparametric Conjoint Models
한민희,Krishnamurthi, Lakshman,강현모,현진석,박상준,현용진 한국마케팅학회 2007 ASIA MARKETING JOURNAL Vol.9 No.2
A new chi-square test is proposed to assess significance of attributes for nonparametric conjoint models. The key idea is to form subsets of rankings and test the dependence between the attribute levels and the sets of rankings. The null hypothesis states that the rankings for profiles with the focal attribute are distributed randomly among the sets of rankings. The approach is simple, easy to use, and can be applied at the individual level as well as at the aggregate level. It can be used for the trade-off approach as well as for the full profile approach.

Dielectric properties are strongly dependent on crystallization conditions, which determined the amount of SrTiO3 and secondary crystalline phases and the microstructure of the glass ceramics. Earlier reports confirm that the crystallization of the SrTiO3 phase in borosilicate (without an alkali oxide additive) as well as in aluminosilicate glassy matrix is found to be complex and difficult. Glass ceramics with varying amounts of alkali oxide (K2O) have been prepared in the strontium titanate borosilicate glass system. The glasses were crystallized in the temperature range 1073-1325 K. It is observed that the pure strontium titanate (SrTiO3) phase can be crystallized at higher temperature by choosing an optimum amount of alkali oxide (K2O). Dielectric characteristics of glass ceramic samples were measured with respect to frequency (0.1 kHz to 1 MHz) and temperature (300 to 500 K). The value of the dielectric constant is higher when Sr2B2O5 crystallizes as a primary phase while it decreases significantly when SrTiO3 crystallizes as a major crystalline phase. The temperature coefficient of the dielectric constant (TCε) becomes negative as the SrTiO3 phase crystallized out in the glass ceramics and the value of the dielectric constant increases with a higher crystallization temperature and time which finally decides the amount of the SrTiO3 phase. Attempts have also been made to correlate the observed dielectric behavior with the electrical contribution of various crystalline phases, residual glassy matrix, crystal-glass interface region and electrode contribution using the impedance spectroscopic technique.

The physical vapour deposition process of serial bideposition is used to fabricate inorganic retardation plates of LaF3, NdF3,Sc2O3 and SmF3. For a deposition angle of 70.the form-birefringent materials exhibit linear birefringence in the range 0.090.13 atwavelength 248 nm. The study shows that NdF3 and Sc2O3 are unsuitable for use at 193 nm, due to excessive absorptive loss, andthat LaF3 is the preferred material.
