        A survey was performed to 250 male young men who were living alone and shared living with friends in Chungnam province. Their average age was 22.6 years old, height was 171.8 cm, weight was 65.6 kg and BMI was 22.2 Comparing the prevalence of drinking, smoking and exercise, there were significantly different between living alone subjects and shared-living ones. The main value toward eating/meals was for hungry soultion. And we found many significant differences by living with or without companion. When young men living without companions, they shouved to be more in regular mealtimes, no-skipped meals, breakfast eating, adequate food amounts, eating-outs, etc. and to be less in pleasant mealtimes, various foods, snacking and especially late snacks. The good food intake pattern were highly scored in the alone-living group than the shared-living group, whereas the bad food intake pattern were also highly scoued in the alone-living group than the other. The latter might be due to the more food exposures because of companions. These findings could conclude that dietary behaviors of the young living alone were evaluated as good enough.

        Metastasis to the thyroid gland is usually considered uncommon. The most frequent sites of the primary tumor include the kidney, breast and lung. Its presence often indicates poor prognosis. Metastases represent the advanced stage of the tumors and fine needle aspiration cytology is and important way of diagnosis in thyroid metastasis. we experienced a case of Metastatic Small cell Lung Carcinoma to the Thyroid Gland. A 58-year-old man with Graves' disease diagnosed pulmonary nodule in the left upper lung field on his chest X-ray film. The patient's thyroid gland was diffusely swollen, and elastic to hard. A thyroid ultrasonography showed 1cm sized hypodense nodule on the left thyroid gland. The patient underwent a ultrasonography guided fine needle aspiration cytology of the mass. Cytological diagnosis was a metastatic small cell carcinoma. Then Chemotherapy was administered to the patient. The authors report this rare case of metastatic small cell lung carcinoma to the thyroid with literature review.

        The effects of the material properties of thermal curtains upon reduction of the greenhouse heat loss were studied. A theoretical analysis procedure with equations and computer programs was developed to estimate them by using energy balance principles. Curtain effectiveness for every three kinds pf value level of the material properties were studied and compared. The results of this study would be useful for the developent and management of greenhouse thermal curtains.

        장년기 남자의 에너지 과잉섭취와 주류 또는 육류구이 섭취량간의 관련성에 관한 연구

        청년기 및 장년기 남자의 식품군과 음식군의 섭취 특성을 비교하고 영양소 섭취량을 산출하며 에너지 섭취와 식품군, 음식군의 관련성을 파악하고자 하였으며 20~29세 남자 659명과 30~49세 남자 1,697명의 총 2,356명을 대상으로 조사된 1998년 국민건강ㆍ영양조사 결과를 분석한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 우리나라 청ㆍ장년기 남자는 영양소 섭취가 권장량에 비해 양적으로 부족하며 결핍상태(75%미만 RDA%를 섭취)인 영양소는 칼슘이었고, 그 다음으로 비타민 B₂, 비타민 A 및 에너지의 순으로 나타났다. 30~40대보다 20대에서 결핍이 더 심한 영양소는 에너지, 단백질, 철, 비타민 C 및 나이아신이었다. 영양소의 질적 평가(INQ<1)에서도 특히 칼슘과 비타민 A, 비타민 B₂의 결핍이 많았으며 청년군보다 장년군에서 더 심각한 것으로 평가되었다. 그러나 식사의 질적 평가(MAR<1)에서는 장년군보다 청년군의 식사가 더 불량한 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 30~40대 남자는 20대에 비해 영양소 섭취량 및 % RDA에서 결핍정도는 상대적으로 적고, 일부 영양소의 영양 밀도는 더 불량하나 식사의 질은 상대적으로 더 양호하였다. 장년군의 1일 음식의 총섭취량 및 식품의 총섭취량이 청년군보다 더 많았다. 두 연령군 간에 음식군 섭취량 중에서 유의차를 보인 것은 어육류볶음이었고 식품군 중에서는 차이가 없었다. 청년군에서 에너지섭취량에 가장 밀접한 식품군은 곡류, 유지류와 어패류의 순으로 높았으며 장년군에서는 육류와 알코올성 음료, 곡류의 상관계수가 더 높았다. 에너지섭취가 충분한 경우 청년은 술과 함께 어패류 구이, 유지류와 관련이 크고 장년은 곡류, 알코올음료, 육류구이의 섭취와 관련이 큰 것으로 나타났다. 특히 빵/과자류이나 떡/감자떡을 많이 먹는 청년이나 술과 함께 육류 구이를 많이 먹는 장년은 영양적 불균형을 갖기 쉬운 것으로 나타났다. 중년기 남자의 사망률이 세계적으로 높아 건강관리가 중요해졌으므로 식사를 통한 질병예방, 건강증진을 위하여 중년기 남자를 대상으로 올바른 식품선택의 식생활교육을 강화해야 하며 본 연구의 식사 및 영양소의 질적 균형에 관한 결과가 그 기초 자료로 활용되기를 기대한다. In order to find the relationships of nutrient intakes and food consumptions to calorie intake for young and middle-aged men, a study was performed using the data of Korean National HealthㆍNutrition Survey in 1998. Data from 659 young men (20 to 29 years) and 1,697 middle-aged men (30 to 49 years) were analysed for percent of recommended daily allowance (%RDA), index of nutritional quality (INQ) and nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) in order to evaluate one's quality and quantity. We found that energy and nutrient intakes were not significantly different between young and middle-aged groups. Their calorie and nutrient intakes were below their RDA. The most insufficiently consumed nutrient (less than 75% of RDA) was calcium followed by thiamin, vitamin A, and calorie. The lacks of calorie, protein, iron, vitamin C, and niacin were more widely-spread in the twenties than the middle-aged. The mean nutrient adequacy ratio of the middle-aged was better than that of the young, even though some INQ were worse. Only for the subjects consumed sufficient energy, there were positive relations between grains, meats or alcoholic drinks to calorie level in middle-aged men but there were positive relations between broiled fish/shell or fats/oils to calorie level in young men. It seemed that both middle-aged men eating alcoholic drinks, broiled meat, and grains and young men eating cake/cookies, rice cake/potato cake, grains, and sugars could consume enough calorie with nutritional imbalance.

        Electrically Stimulated Relaxation is not Mediated by GABA in Cat Lower Esophageal Sphincter Muscle

        This study examined the effect of Gamma-Amino butyric acid (GABA) and selective GABA receptor related drugs on the electrically stimulated relaxation in the lower esophageal sphincter muscle (LES) of a cat. Tetrodotoxin $(10^{-6}\;M)$ suppressed the electrically stimulated (0.5-5 Hz) relaxation of the LES. However, guanethidine $(10^{-6}\;M)$ and atropine $(10^{-6}\;M)$ had no effect indicating that the relaxations were neurally mediated via the nonadrenergic and noncholinergic (NANC) pathways. NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester ($10^{-4}M$, L-NAME) also inhibited the relaxant response but did not completely abolish the electrically stimulated relaxation with 60% inhibition, which suggests the involvement of nitric oxide as an inhibitory transmitter. This study examined the role of GABA, an inhibitory neurotransmitter, on neurally mediated LES relaxation. GABA ($10^{-3}-10^{-5}M$, non selective receptor agonist), muscimol ($10^{-3}-10^{-5}M$, GABA-A agonist), and baclofen ($10^{-3}-10^{-5}M$, GABA-B agonist) had no significant effect on the electrically stimulated relaxation. Moreover, bicuculline ($10^{-5}M$, GABA-A antagonist) and phaclofen ($10^{-5}M$, GABA-B antagonist) had no inhibitory effect on the electrically stimulated relaxation. This suggests that GABA and the GABA receptor are not involved in the electrically stimulated NANC relaxation in the cat LES.

      • High MET copy number and MET overexpression: poor outcome in non-small cell lung cancer patients.

        <P>The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence and prognostic role of increased gene copy number and protein expression of MET and EGFR in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Samples were collected from 380 patients with surgically resected NSCLC, and fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were performed. EGFR amplification and high polysomy (EGFR FISH-positive) were observed in 9.7% and 17.4% of the patients, respectively. EGFR was overexpressed (EGFR IHC-positive) in 19.2% of the patients. Neither EGFR FISH-positive nor EGFR IHC-positive status affected survival after resection. Increased MET copy number (MET FISH-positive by University of Colorado Cancer Center criteria) was observed in 11.1% of the patients (high polysomy, 8.7%; gene amplification, 2.4%). According to the Cappuzzo system, 7.1% of the patients were MET FISH-positive. MET FISH positivity was a negative prognostic factor, especially in patients with adenocarcinoma histology (p=0.040), female gender (p=0.010), old age (p=0.084), and EGFR FISH negativity (p=0.020) at the univariate level but not at the multivariate level. MET was overexpressed (MET IHC-positive) in 13.7% of the patients and associated with shorter overall and disease-free survival (p=0.010 and p=0.056, respectively). Multivariate analysis revealed that MET IHC-positive patients had a significantly increased risk of death (hazard ratio, 1.618; 95% confidence interval, 1.066-2.456; p=0.024). Increased MET copy number and MET overexpression are negative prognostic factors for surgically resected NSCLCs.</P>

        Establishment of a humanized animal model of systemic sclerosis in which T helper-17 cells from patients with systemic sclerosis infiltrate and cause fibrosis in the lungs and skin

        Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by inflammation, microangiopathy, and progressive fibrosis in the skin and internal organs. To evaluate the pathophysiologic mechanisms and efficacies of potential therapeutics for SSc, a preclinical model recapitulating the disease phenotypes is needed. Here, we introduce a novel animal model for SSc using immunodeficient mice injected with peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from SSc patients. Human PBMCs acquired from SSc patients and healthy controls were transferred into NOD.Cg-PrkdcscidIl2rgtm1Wjl (NSG) mice with concurrent bleomycin injection. Blood, skin, and lung tissues were acquired and analyzed after PBMC engraftment. In addition, we investigated whether the humanized murine model could be used to assess the efficacy of potential therapeutics for SSc. Human PBMCs from SSc patients and healthy controls were engrafted into the blood, skin, and lung tissues of NSG mice. Histological analysis of affected tissues from mice treated with SSc PBMCs (SSc hu-mice) demonstrated substantial inflammation, fibrosis and vasculopathy with human immune cell infiltration and increased expression of IL-17, TGF-β, CCL2, CCL3, and CXCL9. The proportions of circulating and tissue-infiltrating T helper 17 (Th17) cells were elevated in SSc hu-mice. These cells showed increased expression of CXCR3 and phosphorylated STAT3. SSc hu-mice treated with rebamipide and other potential Th17-cell-modulating drugs presented significantly reduced tissue fibrosis. Mice injected with patient-derived PBMCs show promise as an animal model of SSc.

        Chitosan이 함유된 보존제의 첨가가 돈육 Patty의 저장에 미치는 효과

        Chitosan 함유 보존제를 각각 1%, 3%, 5% 첨가하여 제조한 patty의 관능검사 결과, 맛과 종합적 기호도의 경우 PⅠ-1 처리구, PⅡ-1 처리구가 대조구보다 유의적으로 높은 값을 나타내었다. DPPH 라디칼 소거능은 대조구, 1% PⅠ-1 처리구, 1% PⅡ-1 처리구가 각각 13.54%, 21.78%, 14.07%로 PⅠ-1 처리구가 대조구보다 유의적으로 높았다. 총균수는 저장 10일째 PⅠ-1 처리구는 10⁴ CFU/g으로 대조구보다 약 1 log cycle 낮았으며, 대장균군수는 저장 10일째 PⅠ-1 처리구가 2.98 log CFU/g으로 가장 낮았으며, 다음은 PⅡ-1 처리구 낮았다. 가열 감량은 PⅠ-1 처리구와 PⅡ-1 처리구가 대조구보다 낮았고, 저장기간이 경과할수록 유의적으로 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. 보수력은 PⅠ-1 처리구가 65.84%로 가장 높았으며, 저장기간 동안 대조구보다 높은 값을 유지하였다. 휘발성 염기태 질소는 대조구가 5일째까지, 보존제 처리구는 10일째까지 가식권의 한계치 이하로 나타났다. L 값은 저장기간 동안 뚜렷한 변화는 나타나지 않았고 a 값은 저장 5일째부터 급격히 낮아졌으며, b 값은 저장기간 동안 서서히 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. The quality characteristics of pork patty prepared with chitosan containing preservatives during storage at 4℃ were investigated to improve its functional property and shelf life using food preservatives of natural origin (PⅠ; 0.1% chitosan, 2.5% citric acid, 100 ppm grapefruit seed extract, 0.2% adipic acid, 0.1% Cinnamomum extract, D.W. 97.09% and PⅡ; 0.1% chitosan, 2.5% citric acid, 100 ppm grapefruit seed extract, 0.2% adipic acid, 0.1% Lysimachia christinae Hance extract, D.W. 97.09%). The sensory qualities (taste, appearance, texture and overall acceptability) of patties preserved with PⅠ(1, 3 and 5%) and PⅡ (1, 3 and 5%) were also investigated. The taste and overall acceptability of patties prepared with 1% PⅠ and 1% PⅡ were higher than those of the control. The DPPH radical scavenging activities of the control, 1% PⅠ and 1% PⅡ treated patties were 13.54%, 21.78% and 14.07%, respectively. The total aerobes and coliform count of patties preserved with 1% PⅠ were 10⁴ CFU/g and 10² CFU/g, respectively, after 10 days storage at 4℃. Cooking loss from 1% PⅠ and 1% PⅡ treated patties was lower than that of from the control. Water holding capacity was the highest for 1% PⅠ (65.84%), followed by 1% PⅡ and then the control. The shelf life of patties prepared with 1% PⅠ and 1% PⅡ was extended by about 5 days relative to the control at 4℃.

        어성초 분말을 첨가한 식빵의 품질 특성

        기능성 소재로써 어성초의 활용 가능성을 검토하고 제빵시 최적 첨가 비율을 결정하기 위하여, 어성초 분말을 밀가루 대신 0.3, 0.5, 1.0%의 비율로 첨가하여 식빵을 제조하면서 어성초 분말이 제빵 특성 및 품질에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 어성초 분말의 조회분 9.98%, 조지방 7.50%, 조단백질 17.79%를 나타내었고 어성초 에탄올 추출물의 총 폴리페놀 함량은 15.44 mg/mL이었으며, DPPH 라디칼의 소거능은 77.61%, 아질산염 소거능은 15.38%를 나타내었다. 어성초 분말을 첨가한 반죽의 pH는 5.08-5.14로 대조구(pH 5.16)에 비해 다소 낮았다. 식빵의 pH는 5.18-5.21로 모든 처리구가 반죽의 pH보다 높았으나, 시료간의 유의적인 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 어성초 분말을 첨가한 반죽의 발효능은 대조구와 동일하였고, 어성초 분말 첨가량이 증가할수록 굽기 손실률은 다소 증가하였으나, 유의적 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 식빵의 무게가 다소 감소하였으나, 1% 범위 내의 첨가에 의한 식빵 무게의 유의적 차이는 없었다. 식빵의 부피는 어성초 분말 첨가량이 증가할수록 유의적으로 감소하였으며(p<0.05), 비용적도 감소하였다. 빵반죽, 빵의 표면과 내부의 색도는 어성초 분말 첨가구가 대조구에 비해 L<SUP>*</SUP>값과 a<SUP>*</SUP>값은 유의적으로 낮았다. 빵반죽과 빵 내부의 b<SUP>*</SUP>값은 어성초 분말 첨가구가 대조구보다 높았다. 어성초 분말 첨가 농도에 의존적으로 식빵의 DPPH 라디칼 소거능은 유의적으로 증가하였고(p<0.05). 총 폴리페놀 함량도 어성초 분말 첨가 식빵이 806.18-1092.10 μg/mL으로 대조구의 731.47 μg/mL보다 높았다. 맛, 풍미와 씹힘성에 대한 기호도는 대조구에 비해 어성초 분말 첨가 식빵이 낮게 평가되었으나 각 시료별 유의적 차이는 나타내지 않았고. 색은 어성초 분말 첨가 식빵이 대조구보다 높았다. 종합적 기호도는 HTP-0.5가 3.78가 가장 높았으며, HTP-1.0가 3.00으로 가장 낮았다. This study was carried out to investigate the quality characteristics of bread containing Houttuynia cordata Thunb. powder (HTP; in ratios of 0, 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0% of the total flour). We found that addition of HTP decreased the pH of dough, whereas the pH of bread remained unchanged. HTP caused no significant change in dough volume during fermentation. Baking loss did not show significant difference between HTP containing bread and control. However, we found changes in bread volume with the most pronounced decrease observed in bread containing 0.1% HTP. Lightness and redness of the inner crumb were decreased by the addition of HTP, whereas yellowness was increased. 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl-radical scavenging activity and total polyphenol contents were increased significantly by the addition of HTP. The overall acceptability of bread containing 0.5% HTP was better than that of control.

        커피박 열수추출물로 제조한 식혜의 품질 특성 및 항산화 활성

        커피 음료 제조시 생성되는 커피박의 식품자원화에 대한 기초연구로써, 전통 식품인 식혜에 적용하기 위하여, 커피박 열수 추출물을 첨가한 식혜의 당화 과정 중 품질 변화와 항산화 활성 및 저장 중 미생물 변화를 조사하였다. CR 함유 식혜는 대조구에 비해 pH가 높았으며, 당화 시간이 경과함에 따라 모든 시료의 pH는 증가하였다. 당화 완료 시점인 5시간에는 대조구와 CR 첨가구의 pH는 유의적인 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 산도는 0.06-0.08%의 범위 내에서 변동은 있었으나, CR 농도별 및 당화 시간에 따른 뚜렷한 변화는 나타나지 않았다. 동일 당화 시간에서는 CR 농도가 높을수록 환원당의 함량은 높았고, 동일 시료에서는 당화 시간이 경과할수록 증가하였다. 당화 5시간에서는 CR-0.8과 CR-1.0의 환원당은 각각 48.66, 47.24 mg/mL를 나타내어 대조구(45.10 mg/mL)에 비해 유의적으로 높았다(p<0.05). 당화 시간이 경과할수록, CR 첨가 식혜는 대조구에 비해 어둡고, 적색도 및 황색도가 증가하였으며, CR의 농도가 높을수록 이러한 경향은 뚜렷하였다. 총 폴리페놀 함량과 총 플라보노이드 함량은 CR을 함유한 식혜가 대조구에 비해 유의적으로 높았으며, CR 농도 비율이 증가될수록 높았다. 특히, CR-1.0은 대조구에 비해 총 플라보노이드 함량이 약 3배 이상 높았다. DPPH 라디칼 소거능과 아질산염 소거능은 CR 첨가 비율이 증가할수록 유의적으로 증가하였다. CR-1.0은 대조구에 비해 DPPH 라디칼 소거능은 약 3배이상, 아질산염 소거능은 약 3.8배 이상 증가하였다. CR 첨가 식혜의 종합적 기호도는 CR-1.0(3.04)을 제외한 나머지 CR 첨가구는 모두 대조구(3.32)보다 높았으며 특히, CR-0.6은 종합적 기호도 뿐만 아니라, 맛, 색, 향에서도 가장 높은 평가를 나타내었다. 4℃에서 20일 동안 저장한 식혜의 일반세균수를 조사한 결과, 대조군은 10³ CFU/mL이었고, CR을 첨가한 식혜는 10¹-10² CFU/mL를 나타내었다. This study was performed to evaluate the quality characteristics and antioxidant activity of sikhe prepared using various concentrations of hot water extracts roasted coffee ground residue (CR-sikhe; 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0%). The pH increased with increasing CR concentration. The reducing sugar content after 5 h saccharification was the highest when 0.8% CR extract was used. Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents increased in a concentration-dependent manner reaching maximum levels when 1.0% CR-extract was used. The antioxidant activities of CR-extracts were higher than that of the control and increased dose-dependently. The CR-0.6 showed the best taste (4.28), color (4.56), flavor (4.08), and overall acceptability (4.28). After 10 day of storage at 4oC, the total cell count in CR-sikhe was approximately 1-2 log cycle, which was less than that in the control.
