        The present study was to investigate the effect of sport activities on adaptive bahavior in mentally retarded children; and to present some effective data for rehabilitation and education of the handicapped. After assigning 19 educable mentally retarded children to either experimental group(9 children) or control group(10 children), aquatic exercise treatment(60 min/day, 3 times/week) was administered for 12 weeks. Results were as follows. There were significant increases of personal self-sufficiency(p<.001), community self-sufficiency(p<.001) and personal-social responsibility(p<.001) and significant decrease of social adjustment(p<.001), but not in control group. It was found that sport activities had positive effect on adaptive behavior in obese mentally retarded children.

        With a view to examining the habit and method in which old people maintain and improve their health, we consulted 551 men and 444 women who were over 65 years old, and concluded as follows: 1. Habit of eating It's been revealed that most of the old people keep a regular eating hour, control the quantity of meal or eat a little food, and prefer vegetables to meat. 2. Mental health Old people feel the necessity for mental health and most of them (about 80%) keep good mental health without becoming pessimistic. Their chief concenrs have turned out to be about their sons and daughters and their own health and finance. 3. Managing Good Health It has been revelaed that old people do not possess any special kind of secret to keep good health but taking plenty of rest, regular meal, and proper exercise, and many of them (about 60%) have been shown to eat invigorant food that they can easily get around their living area. 4. Physical Functions It has been revealed that many old people are conscious of some symptoms about their parts of body and about to percent of them suffers from neuralgia. Some measures like medical aid especially for old people need to be taken as soon as possible. As we have found that the health-keeping method of old people consists plenty of rest, proper exercise, and appropriate nutrition, we can conclude that the recreatonal and culture facilities and programs for keeping old people in good health should be developed. It is also necessary to study food that contribute to their health and develop ways to get rid of the stresses to which they are exposed in their daily life. Presides, it is natural that government found an administrative department to deal with these matters effectively.

        당귀로부터 정제한 Decursin의 인체암세포주에 대한 세포독성

        당귀로부터 항암활성을 화합물을 silicagel column chromatography를 이용하여 분리 및 정제한 후, ¹H와 ¹³C NMR, MS, HMQC 및 COSY spectrum(500 ㎒ CDCl₃) 분석을 통하여 분자량 328의 decursin임을 구조 동정하였다. 정제된 decursin을 MCF-7에 24시간 처리한 결과 20 ㎍/㎖ 이상에서 농도 의존적으로 암세포주의 성장을 억제하였으며, SW480, HepG2, MCF-7 및 293과 같은 인체 암세포주에 대한 decurcin의 IC??값은 각각 31.04, 27.24, 20.45 및 33.60 ㎍/㎖로 나타나, decursin은 인체 정상세포주인 293세포를 포함한 다른 세포에 비하여 MCF-7에 대하여 가장 높은 성장억제 활성을 보여주었다. MCF-7 세포에 decursin을 처리한 결과 대조군에서 균일한 핵의 형태가 관찰된 것에 반해 처리군의 경우는 핵의 응축과 apoptotic body를 보였고, DNA 절편이 관찰되었다. 이 결과는 당귀에서 분리한 decursin은 MCF-7 세포에서 apoptosis를 통하여 세포의 성장을 억제하는 것을 암시한다. Anticarcinogenic-active compound was isolated and purified from Angelica gigas Nakai. The compound was identified as decursin (C₁?H₂?O?; molecular weight 328) by mass, IR spectrophotometry, ¹H-NMR and ¹³C- NMR. The proliferation decreased in a dose dependant fashion in the MCF-7 cells treated with decursin for 24 hours over the concentration of 20 ㎍/㎖. The IC?? value of the decursin treatment for 24 hours were 31.04, 33.60, 27,24, 20.45 ㎍/㎖ in the SW480, 293, HepG2 and MCF-7 cells, respectively. The growth inhibitory effect was stronger in the MCF-7 cells compared to other cells including 293 of human normal cells. The chromatin condensation, apoptotic body formation and DNA fragmentation were examined in the cells treated with decursin. These results suggest that decursin from Angelica gigas Nakai inhibited the growth through apoptosis in MCF-7 cells.

        부추의 함황화합물이 인체 암세포 증식에 미치는 영향

        부추를 암 예방 식품 소재로 활용하기 위하여 부추로부터 주요 생리활성 물질인 함황화합물을 분리하여 인체 암세포성장 억제 및 간암세포의 사멸이 apoptosis에 의해 유도되는지를 조사하였다. 부추 함황화합물을 1, 5, 10, 20 및 30 ㎍/mL 농도로 24, 48 및 72시간별로 간암(HepG2) 및 폐암세포(A549)에 처리하여 암세포 증식억제 효과를 측정한 결과 HepG2 및 A549 세포에서 농도 및 시간 의존적으로 그 성장을 억제하였으며, 20 ㎍/mL 농도 이상에서 암세포 성장이 60% 이상 억제되었다. 또한 부추 함황화합물 30 ㎍/mL 농도로 처리 시 대조군에 비하여 폐암 및 간암 세포수 감소 및 심한 형태학적 변화가 관찰되었다. 이들 암세포의 IC??값을 측정한 결과 부추 함황화합물은 폐암세포(A549)보다 간암세포(HepG2)에 더 효과가 있었다. 한편 부추 함황화합물은 30 ㎍/mL 농도에서 핵 응축 및 apoptotic body를 나타내었으며, 농도 의존적으로 subG1 DNA 함량이 증가함으로써 HepG2 암세포 사멸이 apoptosis에 의해 유도되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. To develop Allium tuberosum L. as a cancer preventive food material, thiosulfinates and biological active components were isolated from Allium tuberosum L. and the apoptotic effects of thiosulfinates in human cancer cells were examined. Thiosulfinates decreased viable cell numbers in dose- and time-dependent manners. Thiosulfinates at the 20 ㎍/mL concentration inhibited more than 60% cell proliferation in HepG2 and A549 human cancer cells, respectively. Also the morphology of cells treated with thiosulfinates of 30 ㎍/mL concentration was distorted with shrunken cell mass while the cell number was lower than that of control cells. The IC?? values in the HepG2 cells were higher than those of the A549 cells. Thiosulfinates at the 30 ㎍/mL concentration showed the formation of apoptotic bodies and a nuclear condensation, and an increase in the cell populations of the sub-G1 phase in the HepG2 cells. These results indicate that thiosulfinates from Allium tuberosum L. inhibited cell proliferation in HepG2 via apoptosis.

        Comparison of a revaprazan-loaded solid dispersion, solid SNEDDS and inclusion compound: Physicochemical characterisation and pharmacokinetics

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The aim of this research was to compare three strategies for enhancing the solubility of poorly water-soluble revaprazan hydrochloride: solid dispersion, solid SNEDDS and inclusion compound. The influence of polymers, surfactants and oils on the drug solubility was assessed, and via the chosen carriers, the three types of formulations were prepared utilising spray drying technique. Their physicochemical properties, solubility, dissolution and pharmacokinetics in rats were performed compared with revaprazan powder. Among the liquid SNEDDS formulations assessed, the compositions of revaprazan, peceol, Tween 80 and Labrasol (10:15:55:30, weight ratio) provided the smallest emulsion size. Moreover, this liquid SNEDDS and dextran were suspended/dissolved in distilled water, and spray-dried, producing an optimal revaprazan-loaded solid SNEDDS. The appropriate solid dispersion and inclusion compound were composed of revaprazan, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose and cremophor A25 (5:1.4:5.6) and drug and hydroxyl-β-cyclodextrin (2.5:8.77), respectively. The crystalline drug was converted to an amorphous state in all formulations. In the solid dispersion, the drug was attached to the hydrophilic carrier. The solid SNEDDS and inclusion compound contained aggregate microspheres and separate microspheres, respectively. All formulations significantly increased the drug solubility, dissolution, plasma concentration and AUC compared with revaprazan powder. These properties were ranked in the order solid dispersion ≥ solid SNEDDS > inclusion compound. Particularly, the solid dispersion improved about 9500-fold drug solubility and 10-fold oral bioavailability. Thus, the improved properties were considerably dependent upon these techniques, although all of the techniques employed similar mechanisms.         Analysis of Status of Radiation/Radioisotopes Utilization

        Background: The use of radiation and radioisotopes in Korea has been increasing each year, and its impact on economy and industry is expected to be increasing progressively following the development of industrial technology and the expansion of their usage. To establish and supporting policies for industries using radiation and radioisotopes, it is necessary to check the status of related industries accurately, as well as to gather data required to establish plans for industrial development by studying both revenues and economic scale (contributing to revenue). Materials and Methods: To analyze the status of utilization, surveys were carried out on 6,621 organizations engaged in nuclear operations handling radiation and radioisotopes pursuant to the Nuclear Safety Act as of end 2014, on 33,471 medical institutions using radiation generators for medical and diagnostic purposes pursuant to the Medical Service Act, and on 2,218 organizations using radiation generators for animal diagnostics pursuant to the Veterinary License Act. Results and discussion: The overall status of the domestic radiation market including the number of user organizations, that of employees, and the size of distributions (imports, productions, and exports) with which the scale of domestic radiation market can be judged showed a growth trend compared to the previous year, though the number of employees for radiation operation in industrial sector, research sector, education sector, military sector, and power plants (nuclear power plants) and the size of imports was reduced somewhat. Conclusion: It is expected that data acquired through periodic surveys on the status of utilization would be utilized practically in establishing governmental policies related to the promotion of usage of radiation and radioisotopes, and also be utilized widely in cultivating and developing the industry efficiently to invigorate the related industries.

        Significance of Biomarkers as a Predictive Factor for Post-Traumatic Sepsis

        Purpose: Many traumatic patients die from sepsis and multiple organ failure. Early recognition of post-traumatic sepsis in traumatic patients will help improve the prognosis. Recently, procalcitonin (PCT), macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), and lactic acid have emerged as predictive factors. Our study aims to explore the significance of PCT, MIF and lactic acid as a predictor of posttraumatic-sepsis in trauma patients. Methods: This study was conducted on prospective observational study patients who visited an emergency medical center in a university hospital from March 2014 to February 2016. We measured the white blood cells, c-reactive protein (CRP), lactic acid, PCT, and MIF with serum taken from the patient’s blood within 1 hour of the occurrence of the trauma. The definition of post-traumatic sepsis was defined as being part of systemic inflammation response syndrome criteria with infections within a week. Results: A total of 132 patients were analyzed, wherein 74 patients were included in the low injury severity score (ISS) group (ISS <15) and 58 patients were included in the high ISS group (ISS ≥15). The mean PCT, MIF, and lactic acid levels were higher in the high ISS group (p<0.05). Meanwhile, 38 patients were included in the early sepsis group and 94 patients were included in the non-sepsis group. The mean MIF levels were higher in the sepsis group than the non-sepsis group (p<0.05) and there were no significant differences in the initial CRP, lactic acid, and PCT levels in these two groups. Conclusions: MIF may be considered as a predictive factor for sepsis in trauma patients.
