Lithospermi Radix has been used in traditional medicine for antimicrobial, antiinflammatory, immunostimulating, antitumor and wound-healing activities. For the quality control of this drug, acetylshikonin was isolated from the hexane extract of Lithospermum erythrorhizon(Boraginaceae) and identified by the spectroscopic evidences. A quantitative analysis of acetylshikonin using HPLC method showed that the average contents were 0.084±0.026% in 31 samples collected throughout the various regions of Korea.

Evodiae Fructus has been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of gastro-intestinal disorders, headache and migraine, and as a cardiotonic and analgesic. For the quality control of this crude drug, evodiamine was isolated from the methylene chloride extract of Evodia afficinalis (Rutaceae) and identified by the spectroscopic evidences. A quantitative analysis of evodiamine using HPLC method exhibited that the average contents of evodiamine were 0.84±0.60% in 53 samples collected throughout the various regions of Korea.

We have measured the linewidth and g-factor of EPR signals of the single crystal Mn$_{x}$Si$_{1-x}$ as a function of Mn-composition (0.4$\leq$x$\leq$0.9). We have investigated the linewidth of Mn$_{0.49}$Si$_{0.51}$ as a function of temperature (100 $\leq$ T $\leq$ 300 K). From these results EPR linewidth equation could be fitted for experimental data of EPR linewidth. This type of equation is similar to the shape of EPR linewidth of DMS (dulite magnetic semiconductor).or).r).

본 연구는 수준별 교육과정이 성공적으로 정착할 수 있도록 하기 위하여 유치원 현장에서 수준별 교육과정의 계획, 운영, 평가의 전반적인 측면에 대한 평가척도를 개발하고 평가척도의 영역별 점수분포, 문항양호도 및 척도의 신뢰도를 검증하고자 하는 것이다. 전문가협의회, 예비조사, 문항수정의 과정을 통하여 최종적으로 3개 영역, 11개 소영역, 80개 문항으로 구성된 개발된 수준별 교육과정 평가척도(시안)가 완성되었으며 이를 전국의 396개 유치원을 대상으로 조사하여 영역별 점수분포, 문항반응분포, 문항변별도(x²) 및 척도의 신뢰도(cronbach ?)를 알아본 결과 적절한 수준으로 나타났다. The purpose of this study was to explores the preliminary study on the development of assessment scale for the differentiated curriculum of kindergarten. The instrument included a questionnaire composed of 3-areas(plan, operation, and assessment), 11-subareas, 80-items. Research questions are as follows. First, what is the score distribution of the areas and sub-areas. Second, what are the item response distribution and item discrimination of the scale. Third, what is the reliability of the scale for the differentiated curriculum of kindergarten. Mean, SD, %, X², Cramer's V and Cronbach's ? were used for data analysis. Findings of the study are as follows: First, in terms of the score distribution of the plan-area was 3.41-5.79, those of the operation-area was 3.59-3.74, and those of the assessment area was 3.04-3.39. Second, in terms of the item response distribution, there was no ceiling effect item. And in terms of the item discrimination, there was significant difference(p<.001) between upper and lower groups according to the X² analysis. Third, the internal consistency reliability of the scale was high(Cronbach's ?=.98), including internal reliability of sub-areas.

To understand the photoluminescence (PL) mechanisms of nanophosphors, various experiments were conducted. The SnO2:Eu3+ nanoparticles were synthesized and calcined at various temperatures. The increase of the PL intensities with the increasing calcination temperature was due to the removal of the hydroxyl groups, and to the decrease of the surface area caused by the growth of the nanoparticles. Additionally, Mn-doped zinc sulfide monodispersed-nanoparticles were synthesized. The influence of Mn doping concentration was investigated with the decrease of crystallinity and capping. The increased crystallinity and removal of water/organic capping were suggested for the reasons of increased PL property.

lridology, a form of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), is the diagnosis of medical conditions through noting irregularities of the pigmentation in the iris. lridological constitution has a strong familial aggregation and is implicated in heredity. Apolipoprotein E (apoE) gene polymorphism is one of the most well studied genetic markers of vascular disease. I investigated the relationship between iridological constitution and apoE polymorphism. I classified 87 hypertensive patients with family history of cerebral infarction and 79 controls according to iris constitution, and determined apoE genotype. Neurogenic type in hypertensives was 32.2% compared with 16.5% in controls (P<0.001). No differences in the apoE genotypes frequencies were observed in patients compared with those in controls ($x^2=0.726$, df-=2, P=0.696). However, in a population with ${\varepsilon}3/{\varepsilon}4$ genotype, the frequency of neurogenic constitution was significantly higher in hypertensives than in controls (60% vs. 0%) ($x^2=5.265$, df=l, P=0.022). These results could imply that apoE ${\varepsilon}3/{\varepsilon}4$ genotype and neurogenic iris constitution are risk factors for hypertension.
Isolation and characterization of novel <i>Ty</i>1-<i>copia</i>-like retrotransposons from lily

<P> Species of the genus Lilium are well known for their large genomes. Although expansion of noncoding repeated DNA is believed to account for this genome size, retroelement del Ty3-gypsy is the only one described so far in the genus Lilium. We isolated Ty1-copia elements from Lilium longiflorum and named them LIREs (lily retrotransposons). The long terminal repeats, primer binding site, and polypurine tract sequences are highly similar among the LIRE elements, indicating that they are in the same lineage. Although the protein-coding regions were highly decayed, the sequence motifs of the integrase, reverse transcriptase, and RNase H domains were identifiable as belonging to the order of Ty1-copia elements. Phylogenetic analysis and primer binding site sequences revealed that these elements belonged to the Ale lineage among the six lineages of plant Ty1-copia elements. Base substitutions in the long terminal repeats estimated that the integration times of the LIRE Ty1-copia elements were between 0.7 and 5.5 mya. In situ hybridization showed that the LIRE elements were present in all the chromosomes of L. longiflorum and L. lancifolium, but absent in centromeres, telomeres, and 45S rRNA sites in both species. The LIRE elements were present very abundantly in species of the genus Lilium, but absent in other genera of the family Liliaceae, implying that the LIRE elements might have contributed to the expansion of the genome in the genus Lilium. </P>

Aurantii Fructus has been used in traditional medicine as a digestant, expectorant, and in the treatment of diarrhea, anal prolapse. For the quality control of this crude drug, hesperidin was isolated from the ethylacetate fraction of Citrus aurantium (Rutaceae) and identified by the spectroscopic evidences. A quantitative analysis of hesperidin using HPLC method exhibited that the average contents of hesperidin were 2.13±1.16% in 57 samples collected throughout the various regions of Korea.
