S100A8 and S100A9 are major leukocyte proteins, known as damage-associated molecular patterns, found at high concentrations in the synovial fluid of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A heterodimeric complex of S100A8/A9 is secreted by activated leukocytes and binds to Toll-like receptor 4, which mediates down-stream signaling and promotes inflammation and autoimmunity. Serum and sy-novial fluid levels of S100A8/A9 are markedly higher in patients with RA than in patients with osteoarthritis or miscellaneous inflammatory arthritis. Serum lev-els of S100A8/A9 are significantly correlated with clinical and laboratory markers of inf lammation, such as C-reactive protein, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, rheumatoid factor, and the Disease Activity Score for 28 joints. Significant cor-relations have also been found between S100A8/A9 and radiographic and clinical assessments of joint damage, such as hand radiographs and the Rheumatoid Ar-thritis Articular Damage score. In addition, among known inflammatory mark-ers, S100A8/A9 has the strongest correlation with total sum scores of ultrasonog-raphy assessment. Furthermore, baseline levels of S100A8/A9 are independently associated with progression of joint destruction in longitudinal studies and are responsive to change during conventional and biologic treatments. These find-ings suggest S100A8/A9 to be a valuable diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for RA.

Won-Nyung Jang,Sang-Hee Cho,In-Su Park,Kwi-Won Park,Seon-Young Yoo,Jin Lee 대한소아소화기영양학회 2012 Pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology & nutrition Vol.15 No.2
Esophageal hiatal hernia is the hernia of a part of or the whole of stomach to posterior mediastinum through esophageal hiatus. Esophageal hiatal hernia can be classified as sliding hiatal hernia (type I), paraesophageal (type II), combined sliding and paraesophageal (type III), and complex paraesophageal (type IV). Type III and IV are clinically classified as paraesophageal hernia. The authors by chance found cystic mass filled with air in the lower lobe of the right lung during the treatment of mycoplasma pneumonia of 10 month-old patient. It was found to be paraesophageal hernia on the chest computed tomography and treated with the operation. As complex paraesophageal hernia is not usual among infants, the authors report it here with literature review.

Park, Chan,Yoo, Seung-Hwan,Park, Sang-Won,Yun, Kwi-Dug,Ji, Min-Kyung,Shin, Jin-Ho,Lim, Hyun-Pil The Korean Academy of Prosthodonitics 2017 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.9 No.2
PURPOSE. To investigate the effect of non-thermal atmospheric pressure plasma (NTAPP) treatment on shear bond strength (SBS) between resin cement and colored zirconia made with metal chlorides. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 60 zirconia specimens were divided into 3 groups using coloring liquid. Each group was divided again into 2 sub-groups using plasma treatment; the experimental group was treated with plasma, and the control group was untreated. The sub-groups were: N (non-colored), C (0.1 wt% aqueous chromium chloride solution), M (0.1 wt% aqueous molybdenum chloride solution), NP (non-colored with plasma), CP (0.1 wt% aqueous chromium chloride solution with plasma), and MP (0.1 wt% aqueous molybdenum chloride solution with plasma). Composite resin cylinders were bonded to zirconia specimens with MDP-based resin cement, and SBS was measured using a universal testing machine. All data was analyzed statistically using a 2-way ANOVA test and a Tukey test. RESULTS. SBS significantly increased when specimens were treated with NTAPP regardless of coloring (P<.001). Colored zirconia containing molybdenum showed the highest value of SBS, regardless of NTAPP. The molybdenum group showed the highest SBS, whereas the chromium group showed the lowest. CONCLUSION. NTAPP may increase the SBS of colored zirconia and resin cement. The NTAPP effect on SBS is not influenced by the presence of zirconia coloring.

PURPOSE This study evaluated the fracture load of customized zirconia abutments with titanium insert according to preparation depths, with or without 5-year artificial aging. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-six identical lithium disilicate crowns (IPS e.max press) were fabricated to replace a maxillary right central incisor and cemented to the customized zirconia abutment with titanium insert on a 4.5×10 mm titanium fixture. Abutments were fabricated with 3 preparation depths (0.5 mm, 0.7 mm, and 0.9 mm). Half of the samples were then processed using thermocycling (temperature: 5-55℃, dwelling time: 120s) and chewing simulation (1,200,000 cycles, 49 N load). All specimens were classified into 6 groups depending on the preparation depth and artificial aging (non-artificial aging groups: N5, N7, N9; artificial aging groups: A5, A7, A9). Static load was applied at 135 degrees to the implant axis in a universal testing machine. Statistical analyses of the results were performed using 1-way ANOVA, 2-way ANOVA, independent t-test and multiple linear regression. RESULTS The fracture loads were 539.28 ± 63.11 N (N5), 406.56 ± 28.94 N (N7), 366.66 ± 30.19 N (N9), 392.61 ± 50.57 N (A5), 317.94 ± 30.05 N (A7), and 292.74 ± 37.15 N (A9). The fracture load of group N5 was significantly higher than those of group N7 and N9 (P<.017). Consequently, the fracture load of group A5 was also significantly higher than those of group A7 and A9 (P<.05). After artificial aging, the fracture load was significantly decreased in all groups with various preparation depths (P<.05). CONCLUSION The fracture load of a single anterior implant restored with lithium disilicate crown on zirconia abutment with titanium insert differed depending on the preparation depths. After 5-year artificial aging, the fracture loads of all preparation groups decreased significantly.

We have designed a 30 cm cryogenic space infrared telescope for astronomical observation. The telescope is designed to observe in the wavelength range of 0.5~2.1 μm, when it is cooled down to 77 K. The result of the preliminary design of the support structure and support method of the mirror of a 30 cm cryogenic space infrared telescope is shown in this paper. As a Cassegrain prescription, the optical system of a 30 cm cryogenic space infrared telescope has a focal ratio of f/3.1 with a 300 mm primary mirror (M-1) and 113 mm secondary mirror (M-2). The material of the whole structure including mirrors is aluminum alloy (Al6061-T6). Flexures that can withstand random vibration were designed, and it was validated through opto-mechanical analysis that both primary and secondary mirrors, which are assembled in the support structure, meet the requirement of root mean square wavefront error <λ/8 for all gravity direction. Additionally, when the M-1 and flexures are assembled by bolts, the effect of thermal stress occurring from a stainless steel bolt when cooled and bolt torque on the M-1 was analyzed.

Park, Kwi Deok,Jung, Hong Hee,Son, Jun Sik,Rhie, Jong Won,Park, Ki Dong,Ahn, Kwang Duk,Han, Dong Keun Trans Tech Publications, Ltd. 2007 Key Engineering Materials Vol.342-343 No.-

Pluronic F127 has received increasing attention over many years as drug delivery systems, biomaterials, and hydrogels for tissue engineering. In this study, we synthesized temperature-sensitive and cell-adhesive triblock F127 copolymers, in which Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) peptide ligand was grafted to Pluronic F127-4-methacryloxyethyl trimellitic anhydride (4-META) to obtain F127-META-RGD. The chemical structures of the F127-META-RGD block copolymers were confirmed by FTIR, 1H and 13C NMR, and GPC. The resultant F127-META-RGD showed very similar thermosensitive behaviors to F127 and F127-META. The critical micelle temperature (CMT) of the F127 copolymers decreased in the order of F127 < F127-META < F127-META-RGD, whereas the particle size followed an opposite trend. Interactions between the F127 copolymers and adipose-derived stem cells (ASC) were evaluated in terms of cell adhesion and proliferation on the hydrogel. These thermosensitive RGD-grafted Pluronic hydrogels that display the enhanced cell adhesiveness, are expected to be useful as a functional injectable scaffold for tissue engineering.

PURPOSE The aim of this study was to evaluate antibacterial activity and osteoblast-like cell viability according to the ratio of titanium nitride and zirconium nitride coating on commercially pure titanium using an arc ion plating system. MATERIALS AND METHODS Polished titanium surfaces were used as controls. Surface topography was observed by scanning electron microscopy, and surface roughness was measured using a two-dimensional contact stylus profilometer. Antibacterial activity was evaluated against Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis with the colony-forming unit assay. Cell compatibility, mRNA expression, and morphology related to human osteoblast-like cells (MG-63) on the coated specimens were determined by the XTT assay and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS The number of S. mutans colonies on the TiN, ZrN and (Ti1-xZrx)N coated surface decreased significantly compared to those on the non-coated titanium surface (P<0.05). CONCLUSION The number of P. gingivalis colonies on all surfaces showed no significant differences. TiN, ZrN and (Ti1-xZrx)N coated titanium showed antibacterial activity against S. mutans related to initial biofilm formation but not P. gingivalis associated with advanced periimplantitis, and did not influence osteoblast-like cell viability.
