        Ki-67 labeling index as a prognostic marker in advanced stomach cancer

        Purpose: Proliferation marker Ki-67 is widely used in cancer prognosis prediction. We tried to investigate the role of Ki-67 as a prognostic factor in stomach cancer after surgery in this study. Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 251 patients who underwent curative resection for gastric cancer from 2010 to 2015. In pathologic examination, Ki-67 labeling index was defined as the percentage of Ki-67 antigen positive cells. Prognostic significance of Ki-67 for gastric cancer was evaluated. Disease-free survival (DFS) was assessed as a primary end-point. Results: The median follow-up period was 28.0 months. Thirty-one patients (12.4%) showed Ki-67 labeling index (LI) lower than 25%. Sixty-eight patients (26.6%) showed recurrence during follow-up period. Recurrence was associated with Ki- 67 LI level (≤25%, P = 0.016), and lymph node metastasis status (P = 0.002). High Ki-67 LI level (>25%) was also related to p53 positivity (P < 0.001) and poorly cohesive type (P = 0.002). The 3-year DFS was 69.4%. Low Ki-67 LI level (≤25%) was related with low DFS (47.6% vs. 72.6%, P = 0.016). T stage (P < 0.001), N stage (P = 0.006), lymphovascular invasion (P = 0.010), and neuronal invasion (P = 0.001) also affected the DFS. In addition, T stage (P = 0.03) and Ki-67 LI (P = 0.035) were independent prognostic factors for DFS. In patients treated with adjuvant chemotherapy (n = 239, 93.4%), low Ki-67 (≤25%) was a poor prognostic factor for DFS (P = 0.013). Conclusion: Low Ki-67 LI predicts high rate of progression and low DFS of stomach cancer. Ki-67 LI can be a predictive marker in resected stomach cancer treated with surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy.

        This paper is a research on the life cycle assessment (LCA) of plastic bag, bottle and container. In order to compare the environmental analysis of plastic, paper, pulp, aluminium, glass and steel material, it is studied by LCA technique from before-discarded step such as the material collection, processing of product, energy and water consumption, and product transportation, to after-discarded step such as waste product transportation, air and water pollutant discharge, waste generation, and treatment and/or disposal of waste. As a results, plastic material has a better environmental assessment than the other materials in before- and after-discarded step. So, plastic material must be newly concerned with a green material, and must be reappraised to the waste-deposit systems.

      • 국내 우유용기 생산 및 사용실태 조사·분석

        Up to now all carton packs used for milk container in our country have been imported abroad. With rapid increase of interest on environment and waste recycling, Environmental Societies and Civil Consumer's Organization restart the Use of Glass Bottle for Milk Movement. From preliminary survey result that glass bottle had many advantages in most test items, we chose the glass bottle as substitute for carton pack, and proposed some regulations such as usable range and detailed regulation, etc. Because at this time it is impossible to rebuild whole pack manufacturing process to substitute carton pack to glass bottle, it may be more favorable to use glass bottle for milk packing under some restricted condition such as easy recollection and reusable circumstances. In addition some governmental regulations to promote glass bottle milk productions and sale and to return all used glass bottles are absolutely required in group catering system. If above is impossible, it will be next choice to set up regulations of milk packing as well as to use glass bottle at some position, and adopt a consumer deposit system in order to increase glass bottle usage, which will help environmental protection and economy.

      • Azithromycin으로 치료한 임신 중 쓰쓰가무시병 1예

        We report a case of tsutsugamushi disease in a 26 year-old pregnant woman who was treated with azithromycin. Her gestation period was 27 weeks and she admitted with fever, rash, and eschar on the right shoulder. Currently recommended medications for the treatment of scrub typhus are doxycycline or chloramphenicol. But, these drugs are class D drugs according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Fetal Risk Summary, so they couldn't be used to treat pregnant women. Recently, a few case reports suggested that azithromycin, a relatively new macrolide antibiotic, was effective and safe for the treatment of scrub typhus in pregnant women. And, there is no evidence that azithromycin causes harmful effects to the developing fetus or to children. On the basis of current in vivo test that confirms the effectiveness of azithromycin, it may be the drug of choice for the treatment of scrub typhus in pregnant women and children.       • ISFET의 제조공정 및 그 동작특성

        ISFET's fabrication process have been designed and computer simulated with SUFREM-II, and their results are good agreement with each other. ISFET chip has been fabraicated by using the ISRC's standard "3um CMOS process". A two-step TCA oxidation for the gate oxide and multilayer encapsulation using silicone rubber was specially used for the improvement of the stability of the ISFETs. The C-V measurement of gate oxide and the AES analysis of gate nitride were performed.The measured sensitivities of the pH-ISFETs are 43 mV/pH and 54 mV/pH without and with HF treatment, respectively.

      • FET형 반도체센서 및 시스템 개발

        기존의 센서들의 난점을 극복할 수 있는 새로운 형태의 FET형 전해질(electrolyte :H^+, K^+, Ca^2+, Na^+)센서소자 및 분석 시스템의 개발을 중점적으로 추진하였으며, FET형 포도당센서 및 압력센서의 개별 FET형 센서에 관한 연구도 병행하였다. FET형 전해질센서를 이용한 휴대용 전해질 측정기와 desktop형 4채널 전해질 분석기를 제작하였다. 또한 이 시스템을 소형화하기 위한 주문형 아날로그-디지탈 변환기 내장형 CMOS 프로세서를 설계하고 검증하였다. The main object of this research is to develope a new FET type electrolyte(H^+, K^+, Ca^2+, Na^+) sensors and analysis system which can overcome the problems of the conventional sensors. Parallel researches on FET type sensors such as glucose and pressure humidity are also in progress. A portable electrolyte meter and desktop 4-channel electrolyte analysis system is fabricated. A customized CMOS processor with built-in analog-to-digital converter is designed and verified.

      • 콘크리트의 加壓速度에 따른 壓縮强度 變化에 관한 實驗的 硏究

        Now, on the spot of construction when one test the compression of concrete, by operating the loading rate vaguely it occurred many cases to bring the profitable results for the factory of remicon. Because the same compressive strength of concrete is influenced according to the difference of loading rate, its required the correct and available materials of the test. In this research its measured the difference and rate of change on compressive strength according to the loading rate, for the effective quality control of concrete construction. And it has the comparative analysis of the results about the compressive strength influences a high strength concrete and general concrete by using the testing machining. Finally, the purpose of this is to suggest the basic materials for more effective way of test and plan of use in order to get the proper strength of concrete and improvement of quality.

      • Plasminogen kringle (angiostatin) 분획의 유효부분 분석

        In order to inhibit the growth of the malignant tumor, the development of various drugs against the malignant tumors has been archived. The combination of these drugs made the tumor therapy possible, but in many cases, secondary matastasis of the tumor to the other organs after its removal has been frequently reported. The angiostain, recently purified and cloned, not only promtes the angiogenesis of the tumor itself in the primary tumor but also inhibits the angiogenesis and metastasis of the secondary tumors. In this study, the nucleic acid sequences of the angiostatin was investigated. And the angiostain gene was expressed in a prokayotic expression system(E. coli) and a eukayotic expression system(Pichia pastoris). The angiostain gene was futher subcloned into 6 clones to characterize its biological activity. In the near future the biological activity and the biochemical property of the protein encoded by each clone will be elucidated.
