      • NH₃-O₂-Ar 혼합기체의 점화 과정에서 H₂기체의 첨가 효과에 관한 연구

        The addition effect of H₂on ignition of NH₃-O₂-Ar mixtures was examined in the temperature range of 1521-2193 K and the pressures in the range of 0.86-1.78 bar behind reflected shock waves. The ignition delay times were measured by monitoring pressure profiles and the OH emissions at 1.0 cm from the end wall. To complement the experiment, computer modeling study of the ignition of NH₃-O₂-Ar mixtures was carried out using various mechanisms reported previously.

        고령 장애인의 일(WORK) 경험과 욕구에 관한 연구 : 뇌병변 장애를 중심으로

        본 연구의 목적은 고령이면서 장애를 동시에 경험하고 있는 고령 장애인들의 일 경험과 욕구에 관한 특성을 당사자의 관점에서 이해하는 것이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해 50세 이상 뇌병변장애인 13명을 대상으로 일 경험과 욕구에 관한 개방형식의 질문으로 심층 인터뷰를 실시하여 그 결과를 분석함으로써 고령 장애인 당사자의 일 경험과 욕구에 대한 심층적 이해와 현상의 의미를 깊이 있게 파악하고자 하였다. 분석결과, 고령 뇌병변장애인들은 일을 하고자 하는 높은 욕구를 가지고 있으며 일을 통해 삶의 의미와 보람을 찾고자 하나 현실적으로는 장애와 고령, 그리고 만성질환자라는 삼중고 속에서 “일하기” 에 상당한 제약을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과는 지금까지 고용정책에서 소외되었던 고령 장애인의 ‘일’ 에 관한 정책적 개입의 필요성을 강력하게 시사해 주고 있다. The purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of the experiences and needs for work of aged people with disabilities who experience both old age and disability from their viewpoint. To this end, this study conducted in-depth interviews with 13 people aged 50 or older with encephalopathic disabilities by open-ended questions regarding their experiences and needs for work, and analyzed the results so as to more deeply understand the experiences and needs for work of aged people with disabilities as well as the implications of the present situation. The analysis results showed that aged people with disabilities have high needs for work and try to find the meaning and worth of life through work, but in reality face considerable limitations to ‘working’ in the triple handicaps of disability, old age, and chronic disease. The results of this study strongly suggest the need for policy intervention in the ‘work’ of aged people with disabilities who have been neglected by employment policies until now.

        환경친화성 계면활성제를 이용한 어병균의 살균효과

        The antibacterial effect amino acid-copper(Ⅱ) surfactant on fish pathogens was studied. Fish pathogens of Edwardsiella tarda, Vibrio anguillarum, Aeromonas hydrophila and Streptococcus sp. were selected, cultured in nutrient agar and adjusted at 2 × 10 exp (5)∼10 exp (6) CFU/㎖ in phosphate buffer saline before the addtion of amino acid-copper(Ⅱ) surfactant with different concentrations. All tested pathogens died within 1 hour with 1 ppm of amino acid-copper(Ⅱ) surfactant. In comparison with formalin and ET, amino acid-copper(Ⅱ) surfactnat was more effective in antibacterial capacity.

        중증 미만성 뇌축색손상 환자의 MRI소견 및 임상적 고찰

        The distribution and extent of traumatic lesions were evaluated with MRI in 31 patients with diffuse axonal injuries(DAI). Authors also analyzed patients with diffuse axonal injury, clinically. The patients with DAI showed statistically significant lower incidence of lucid interval, fracture of the skull and intracranial hematoma. Combined injuries, intracrnial hematomas and distribution of lisions were porved to be poor prognostic factors of DAI. Diffuse axonal injury is most commonly involved in the white matter of the frontal and temporal loves and the splenium of the corpus callosum. Patients with lisions in brainstem and cerebellum revealed worst prognoses. In our studies, the sensitivities of the imaging techniques for diffuse axonal injures were 7.3% with CT scan, 75.6% with T1WI, and with 97.6% in T2WI of MRI, respectively. The authors concluded that MRI has clear advantages over CT in evaluating diffuse axonal injuries.

      • STUDIES ON CONSTITUTION-ACUPUNCTURE THERAPY

        Since the theoretical system of constitution-acupuncture based on the theory of 8 constitutions developed by the author was reported at the 1st World con-gress of Acupuncture, held in Tokyo, Japan in 1965, the author has continued studies on extensive therapeutical formulas of the constitution-acupuncture. Even in case of an identical disease, the pathological theory and therapeutical need of each constitution are varied with each other in terms of the theory of 8 constitutions. Accordingly, the therapeutical method of each constitution should also be varied. This can be fully justified by the fact that each constitution has 9 formulas and therefore the 8 constitutions have a total of 72 formulas which has been successfully methodized by the author (not reported in part). Those exclusive formulas which have been newly developed but can not be applied to other constitutions than those referred to above are anmed as "field formulas" of the 8 constitutional fields.(cf. Explanatory Notes) However, the therapeutical capacity of individual field formula is not perfect, since those therapeutical formulas which may demonstrate strong healing power have been established by combining methodologically 8 formulas centering arou-nd one characteristic formula out of the 9 formulas of each constitution. The present studies carried out through clinical observations over a hundred thousand times in the past 7 years, have made it possible to obtain the results as expected in the successful classification of a total of 56 therapeutical formulas into 'Fundamental Formula', 'Vitalization Formula', 'Bactericidal Formula', 'Paralysis Formula', 'Psycho Formula' and 'Inflammation Formula', This paper deals mainly with these formulas of the 8 constitutions. The symbols and terms used herein are those which have been revised after the first paper was reported. For the convenience of the reader, the revised symbols and terms are explained hereunder together with the illustration of simplified constitutional pulse diagnosis. This paper represents the second report published in the Korean Central Journal of Medicine in September, 1973. It is noted, however, that the figures and formulas created or methodized by the author are defined as the 'Kuan's Figure' and 'Kuan's Formula Table' with fixed serial number respectively.

        Morphology details and size distribution characteristics of single-pot-synthesized silica nanoparticles

        A series of silica nanoparticles (SNP-1, SNP-2, SNP-3, SNP-4, SNP-5 and SNP-6) were synthesized inethanol by the hydrolysis and polycondensation reaction of tetraethoxysilane with the aids of waterinitiator and ammonia catalyst and then investigated in a comprehensive manner in terms ofmorphological structure by using synchrotron transmission small-angle X-ray scattering and grazingincidence wide-angle X-ray scattering and combined together with dynamic light scattering, scanningelectron microscopy, infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetry. They were confirmed to besuccessfully synthesized as oblate amorphous ellipsoids (Re = 9.70 56.30 nm, equatorial radius;e = 0.78 0.80, ellipsoidicity) with sharp surfaces in single unimodal and narrow size distributions. Theradial density profile details, including two-phases (i.e., less dense core and denser shell), weredetermined for thefirst time, in addition to a set of structural parameter details (radius of gyration,radius, core radius, shell thickness, and radius distribution). Larger particle was synthesized convenientlyby higher loading of ammonia solution with respect to the silane monomer. The as-synthesized silicaparticles were found to undergo two-step mass loss behaviors in heat treatment up to 500 C; thefirststeploss took place below 120 C due to removals of physically absorbed water molecules and possiblesolvent residues and the second-step loss above 180 C occurred by removals of water and ethanolbyproducts due to the post condensation reactions of hydroxy and ethoxy residues.

        Removal of phenol from gas streams via combined plasma catalysis

        A hybrid system consisting of non-thermal plasma and perovskite-like catalyst is developed andevaluated for the effectiveness in removing phenol from gas streams. For thermal catalysis,La0.8Sr0.2Mn0.8Cu0.2O3 shows high activity for phenol removal. Further, La0.8Sr0.2Mn0.8Cu0.2O3 is appliedfor combined plasma catalysis (CPC). The results indicate that phenol removal efficiency with CPCremains 100% at applied voltage range of 13–16 kV. Importantly, secondary pollutants (O3 and NOx) andenergy efficiency can be inhibited and increased, respectively, as CPC is applied. Overall, this studydemonstrates that combining non-thermal plasma with perovskite-like catalyst is effective in removingphenol from gas streams.

        Effects of plant growth regulators and polyamines on bract longevity in Bougainvillea buttiana

        There are no reports on plant growth regulators (PGR) or polyamines being used to stimulate bract longevity in bougainvilleaspecies, yet understanding how PGR and polyamines infl uence bougainvillea bract phenology is important for fl owerprofi tability. Potted bougainvillea plants in four diff erent bract development stages based on bract diameter were pre-treatedwith salicylic acid (SA) at a concentration of 0.5 mM combined with 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (NAA, 0.13 mM), gibberellicacid (GA, 0.29 mM), and 6-benzylaminopurine (BA, 0.22 mM) in 100 mL mixtures. Three 100 mL polyamine treatments[diamine putrescine (Put), triamine spermidine (Spd), and tetraamine spermine (Spm)] at 1 mM were also individuallysprayed on bougainvillea bracts. Control bracts were sprayed only with water. Diff erent PGR combinations and singlepolyamine treatments acted diff erently on bract longevity and endogenous 1-aminocylopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC)content, and each combination and single polyamine was not equally signifi cant in regard to coordinating a response toACC regulation. In combined chemical treatments, maximum and signifi cantly prolonged bract longevity in all stages weredetected in the SA + NAA + GA + BA treatment compared to controls and other combinations, and longevity increased asbract stage progressed. A strong synergistic interaction was observed between SA and NAA regarding bract longevity andACC levels. Moreover, Put also signifi cantly prolonged bract longevity and remarkably reduced endogenous ACC contentat all stages, this eff ect increasing as bract stage progressed compared to Spd, Spm, and controls. Therefore, the eff ects ofSA + NAA + GA + BA and single Put (1 mM) applied to bougainvillea bracts for increasing longevity in the nursery off ersinsight into re-vegetation, landscaping programs, and cultivation in gardens.

      • Design of Three Phase Wye-Delta LLC Converter with Time Domain Analysis

        In the paper, the performance of a 5 kW DC/DC Wye-Delta-based series resonant converter designed for 400V input voltage and 48V output voltage server power supply is evaluated. The paper also performs operation modes analysis, circuit characteristics analysis, and use time domain analysis on Wye-Delta-based series resonant converter for circuit design to replace FHA analysis due to waveform distortion. Finally, a full-load efficiency up to 96.07% and power-density up to 2.84W/cm3 server power supply is implemented.

        Chlorophyll-Related Compounds Inhibit Cell Adhesion and Inflammation in Human Aortic Cells

        The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of chlorophyll-related compounds (CRCs) and chlorophyll (Chl) a + b on inflammation in human aortic endothelial cells. Adhesion molecule expression and interleukin (IL)-8, nuclear factor (NF)-jB p65 protein, and NF-jB and activator protein (AP)-1 DNA binding were assessed. The effects of CRCs on inflammatory signaling pathways of signal transducers and activators of transcription 3 (STAT3) and mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4, respectively induced by IL-6 and transforming growth factor (TGF)-b, in human aortic smooth muscle cells cultured in vitro were also investigated. HAECs were pretreated with 10 lM of CRCs, Chl a + b, and aspirin (Asp) for 18 h followed by tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-a (2 ng/mL) for 6 h, and U937 cell adhesion was determined. TNF-a–induced monocyte-endothelial cell adhesion was significantly inhibited by CRCs. Moreover, CRCs and Chl a + b significantly attenuated vascular cell adhesion molecule-1, intercellular adhesion molecule-1, and IL-8 expressions. Treatments also significantly decreased in NF-jB expression, DNA binding, and AP-1 DNA binding by CRCs and Asp. Thus, CRCs exert anti-inflammatory effects through modulation of NF-jB and AP-1 signaling. Ten micromoles of CRCs and Asp upregulated the expression of mothers against decapentaplegic homolog 4 (Drosophila) (SMAD4) in the TGF-b receptor signaling pathway, and SMAD3/4 transcription activity was also increased. Ten micromoles of CRCs were able to potently inhibit STAT3-binding activity by repressing IL-6–induced STAT3 expression. Our results provide a potential mechanism that explains the anti-inflammatory activities of these CRCs.
