        Four solar stills that were fabricated each with cubes and glazing tilted angles of 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, were compared with the quantities of condensed water. The quantities of condensed water were analysed with the weather conditions and temperatures for three months, On fine days, the quantity of average condensed water was more similar to those of 15° and 30°than to those of 45° and 60°, The quantity of condensed water produced by those of 45° and 60° were very irregular compared to those of 15° and 30", On rainy days, the quantity of condensed water was the most in that of 30° than those of the other angles and in cloudy, rainy and sunny conditions, the condensation quantity was the largest in that of 60°.

      • 한라산 국립공원내 습지의 동물상 조사

        We surveyed fauna of three inland wetlands, which situated in Mt. Halla National Park-Dongsuak, 1100 High Ground, and Baengnokdam. The total species number of birds observed at three areas was 44 species and the individual numbers were 140 of 24 species at Dongsuak, 204 of 29 species at 1100 High Ground, and 205 of 18 species at Baengnokdam. Species diversity and species richness were the highest at 1100 High Ground. The total species number of Amphibia and Reptilia were 5 and 6, respectively, and any reptile was not observed at Baengnokdam. Survey of mammalians was limited to only four species (Carpreolus pygargus tianschanicus, Meles meles melanogenys, Mustela sibirica quelpartis, and Tamias sibiriricus barberi) and appearance of M. sibirica quelpartis and T. sibiriricus barberi was restricted to Baengnokdam and Dongsuak, respectively.

        In order to investigate the temporal find spatial variations of the appearance of the Anisoptera adults on Jeju Island, we not only collected the specimens from April to September 2001 but also examined the whole specimens preserved by Cheju National University and Jeju Folklore Natural History Museum. The total collection was 19 species, belong to 12 genera. The Anisoptera adults could be observed during seven months between April and October, though some species showed short time of adult period. Anax phrthenope, Orthetrum albistylum, Crocothemis servilia, Deielia phoon, and Pantala flavescens were widely distributed throughout Jeju Island.

      • 화랑곡 나방의 성유인 물질인(Z, E)-9, 12-Tetradecadienyl Acetate의 입체 선택적 합성

        A stereoselective synthesis for the (Z, E)-9, 12-tetradecadienyl acetate, the sex pheromone of the Indian meal moth(Plodia interpunctella), was described. (E)-3-Pentenoic acid was prepared from malonic acid and propionaldehyde in the presence of triethanolamine as a catalyst. This acid was treated with lithium aluminiumhydride(LAH) to give (E)-3-Pentenol. This alcohol was tosylated with p-toluenesulfonyl chloride(p-TsCl), followed by bromination with lithium bromide(LiBr) to provide (E)-1-Bromo-3-Pentene. (E)-1-Bromo-3-pentene thus obtained was treated with triphenylphosphine(TPP) to furnish (E)-3-pentenetriphenylphosphonium bromide. And 9-acetoxy-1-nonanal was prepared by the pyridinium chlorochromate(PCC) oxidation of 9-acetoxy-1-nonanol, which in turn was obtained from the reaction of 1, 9-nonanediol and glacial acetic acid. Finally, (Z, E)-9, 12-tetradecadienyl acetate was afforded by Wittig reaction of (E)-3-pentenyltriphenylphosphonium bromide and 9-acetoxy-1-nonanal in the presence of K/hexamethylphosphrous triamide(HMPT).

      • 제주도 노랑초파리 집단의 동위효소에 관한 연구

        Allozyme polymorphisms and linkage disequilibrium were examined at Adh and a- Gpdh locus of 2 natural subpopulations of Drosophila melanogaster, sampled at Sogwipo, Cheju Island in 1986. Both loci have two alleles at appreciable frequencies. Adh^(v) and a- Gpdh^(F) allele frequencies are dominant in both of the subpopulations. Heterozygosities commonly show a tendency to be higher in fall than in spring. Heterozygosity of a -Gpdh is generally higher than that of Adh. Kangjong-dong subpopulation compared to Hogun - dong subpopulation tends to lower heterozygosity of Adh and higher herozygosity of a - pdh. Linkage disequilibrium can be obtained in negative in all case, and is stronger in spring than in fall. It is discussed that the nonrandom associateion of Adh and a -Gpdh is genuine and overdominance and other selection may be the explanation for the maintained linkage disequilibrium.

      • 교맥 에탄올 추출물의 멜라닌생성 억제효과

        The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ethanol extract of Fagopyrum escuentum(FE) on the melanogenesis. To determine whether ethanol extract of FE suppress melanin synthesis in cellular level, B16F10 melanoma cells were cultured in the presence of different concentrations of FE ethanol extract. In the present study, the author examined the effects of FE ethanol extract on cell proliferation, melanin contents, tyrosinase activity. Cell proliferation was slightly increased by treatment with ethanol extract of FE (25-200 ㎍/ml). The ethanol extract of FE effectively suppressed melanin contents at a dose of 100 ㎍/ml. It was observed that the color of cell pellets was totally whitened compared with the control. The ethanol extract of FE inhibited tyrosinase activity, regulate melanin biosynthesis as the key enzyme in melanogenesis. These results suggest that the ethanol extract of FE exerts its depigmenting effects through the suppression of tyrosinase activity. And it may be a potent depigmetation agent in hyperpigmentation condition.

      • 제주도의 노린재목 곤충 군집에 관한 연구-초지에서 채집되는 육루군을 대상으로- : 초지에서 채집되는 육접군을 대상으로

        This study was performed between June and October. 1984 in order to investigate the community structure of the heteropteran insects(Geoc0risae) through the mathematical analysis in the grassland of Cheju Island The results are summarised as follows; 1. The heteropteran insects(Geocorisae) in the grassland of Cheju Island are composed of total 70 species and 63 genera of 17 families. The diurnal type is composed of 41 species and 36 genera of 13 families. the nocturnal type is composed of 9 species and 9 genera of 7 families. and the arhythmic type is composed of 20 species and 19 genera of 8 families. 2. The most varialbe species were distributed in August and September. and the largest numbers of individuals were collected in August 3. Dominant species of every month are different from each other. and on the whole the first dominant species is Nysius plebejus and second one is Adelphocoris suturalis. 4. Monthly indices of dominance was 0.057 (in August) to 0.889(in July). and diversity 0.280(in July) to 3. 148(in August). 5. The number of species per octave is concentrated on rare species(lower octave).

      • 한라산 딱정벌레 군집에 관한 조사 Ⅰ.5.16도로변을 중심으로 한 딱정벌레上科의 時空間 變動

        In order to investigate which variance of temporal (month) and spatial (altitude) would influence more on the structure of Caraboidea community in Mt. Halla, we collected samples, by using cup traps, along the 5.16 Road side from May to September 1999. Analysis was performed using three indices. The results indicated that seasonal factor more influenced on the community structure of Caraboidea than attitudinal factor. The results also suggested that the natural environment modified by human could negatively influence on the population of some species.

      • 제주도산 노랑초파리(Drosophila melanogaster) 자연집단에 있어서 P-M system에 의한 Cytotype 분포

        The frequency of the cytotype distribution of the P-M system was investigated in the natural populations of Drosophila melanogaster form 4 localities (Cheju, Sogwipo, Moseulpo, Sungsan) of Cheju-Island. The results are as follows : 1. The frequencies of M, Q, and M'(pseudo M) types are 17.95%, 33.01% and 49.04%, respectively. 2. The activities of M cytotype appered to be variable among 4 population, indicating M and Q cytotype. 3. The P factor activity for potential GD sterility is negligible in these populations.
