        The β₃-adrenergic receptor is expressed in visceral adipose tissue in humans and is thought to contribute to the regulation of the resting metabolic rate and lipolysis. We studied the influence of a mutation in the β₃ -adrenergic receptor gene(Trp64Arg) on body fat distribution, central obesity, lipid metabolism in 65 healthy young male adults. One out of 65 subjects were homozygous (Arg/Arg) for the trp64Arg mutation, 17 subjects were heterozygous (Trp/Arg), and 47 lacked the mutation(Trp/Trp). The body weight, height, body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio were similar between the subjects with- and without the mutation. Total body fat, abdominal fat amount, body fat distribution, serum total- and HDL-cholesterol, triglyceride, glucose, and insulin concentrations were also not different according to the presence or absence of the mutation. These results suggested that Trp64Arg mutation in β₃-adrenergic receptor gene is not a major contributing factor for central obesity or change in lipid metabolism in Korean young adults.

        Background: Most cases of Graves' disease have been treated by antithyroid drugs in Korea. The major drawbacks of antithyroid drugs are the relative high rate of relapse and the inconvinience of long term therapy. Measurement of TBII and TRH stimulation test have been considered as the most reliable tests predicting relapse, but the predictive power is not high enough to use in clinical situation. This study was performed to find good prognostic indicators in Graves' disease patients after the discontinuation of antithyroid drug therapy. Subjects and methods : We restrospectively evaluated 96 patients with Graves' disease who showed normal TRH test at the end of antithyroid drug therapy and were followed for more than one year. Serum T3, T4, T3/T4 ratio, TBII, Anti-TPO Ab and TGAb levels were measured at the time of diagnosis and at the end of therapy. Two to three months after withdrawal of antithyroid medication, serum TSH and free T3 responses to TRH were examined. These parameters were compared between the relapse group and the remission group. Results : Among the 96 patients, 22 patients(22.9%) relapsed(Group Ⅱ) and 74 patients(77.1%) remained in remmision(Group Ⅰ). No significant difference was observed between the relapse and the remission group in clinical parameters, serum T3, T4, TSH, T3/T4 ratio, TBⅡ and Anti-TPO Ab determined before and after treatment. Serum TSH and free T3 levels measured after TRH stimulation were also similar in both groups. Serum TGAb levels determined at the end of treatment were significantly higher in the remission group(p<0.05). Relapse following the discontinuation of therapy occured within 24 months in 72.7% of the relapsed cases. After 24 months, relapse rate was reduced significantly. Conclusion : These results suggest that high serum TGAb levels could be a favorable prognostic indicator for the long term remission of Graves' disease treated with antithyroid drugs, and may suggest that Hashimoto's thyroiditis is combined with Graves' disease in those patients.

        Leaf tissue segments of cabbage (Brassica oleracea. L.) were cultured on the MS medium supplemented with BA and 2, 4-D or NAA. 2, 4-D promoted callus induction but not shoot or root organogenesis. The highest callus induction frequency obtained at treatment of BA 0.2 and 2, 4-D 0.2 ㎎/l. High concentration of 2, 4-D 5.0㎎/l inhibited callus formation. BA promoted shoot formation at the 1.0㎎/ℓ and complementary treatment of BA and NAA was more effective on the formation of shoot and root. Multiple shoots were formed on the medium supplemented with BA 1.0 and NAA 0.5-1.0㎎/l, and BA 0.5 and NAA 2.0㎎/l. Higher concentration of NAA 5.0㎎/ℓ inhibited shoot formation. The highest root formation was induced at the NAA 1.0-2.0㎎/l. Embryogenesis was not induced on leaf disk culture.

        수용액에서 γ형 알루미나 표면에 대한 니켈이온(Ⅱ)의 흡착특성

        γ형 알루미나의 흡착특성을 구명하기 위하여 본 실험에서는 수용액에서 γ형 알루미나를 흡착제로 이용하여 온도와 pH가 니켈이온(Ⅱ)의 흡착능에 미치는 영향을 관찰하고 알루미나 표면과 니켈이온(Ⅱ) 간의 Langmuir와 Freundlich 흡착등온식과 Lagergren 흡착속도식을 결정했다. 5 g Al_2O_3/L의 조건에서 니켈이온은 10 h에 흡착평형상태에 도달했다. PH 2~6의 범위에서 pH가 증가할 때 흡착량은 급격히 증가하다가 PH 6에서 최대 흡착량을 나타냈으며 pH 6~9의 범위에서는 pH가 증가하여도 흡착량은 일정했다. 온도 20℃에서는 흡착량이 적었으나 30℃에서 급격히 흡착량이 증가하였으며 30~50 ℃의 범위에서는 온도 증가에 따라 흡착량이 완만하게 증가했다. Freundlich 흡착등온식의 결정계수는 0.9489로 Langmuir식의 0.9265보다 높았으며 Lagersen 흡착속도식에서의 k_ad값은 0.0023 h^-1으로 결정계수는 0.9497이였다. In this paper, Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherms, and Lagergen adsorption rate were determined and the effect of temperature and pH on the adsorptivity of Ni(Ⅱ) ions were investigated in order t() stud)'the adsorption characteristics of γ-type alumina. For 5 g Al_2O_3/L, the adsorption equilibrium was obtained in 10 h. The adsorption amount increased rapidly when pH incrteased from 2 to 6, and the maximum adsorption amount was observed at pH 6. For pH 6 to 9, however, the adsorption amount remained constant. The adsorption amount was low at 20℃. However, The adsorption amount increased with increased in temperature; the amount increased rapidly at 30℃ and increased linearly with temperature from 30 to 50℃. The correlation coefficient (R_2) for Freundlich adsorption isotherm was 039489%, and this was higher than that for Langmuir adsorption isotherm of 0.9268%. The adsorption coefficient (k_ad) of lagergen equation was 0.0023h^-1, and the correlation coefficient (R^2) was 0.9497.

        In this study, experiments of a nickel elecroplating were performed by a conductive emulsion solution of CO_2/electrolyte/surfactant/entrainer in the supercritical nanoplating system to investigate the effect of the resistivity on plating properties. Resistivity values decreased 60, 35, and 22 Ω at 20, 30, and 50 wt% electrolyte, respectively, and over 60 wt%, the resistivity value was kept constant at 20 Ω. Surface properties of nickel film electroplated by the emulsion solution with 60 wt% electrolyte at 8 MPa was better than that at atmospheric pressure.

        단일용액형 접착제의 접착강도

        The purpose of this study was to compare the bond strength of single bottle type dentin bonding systems to conventional dentin bonding systems and to evaluate the relationship of the hybrid layer to the shear band strength of single bottle type dentin bonding systems. The results were as follows; 1. Mean shear bond strengths of single bottle type dentin bonding systems ranged from 12,48±2.63 MPa for One-Step to 16.71±4.59 MPa for Optibond Solo, comparing 19.14±4.84 MPa for Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus of conventional adhesive system. 2. Single bottle type dentin bonding systems produced hybrid layers similar in morphology to the convention adhesive system. 3. The thickness of the hybrid layers were 2∼3 ㎛ for EG Bond, One-step, and Prime&Bond 2.1, 3∼5 ㎛ for Optibond Solo and Single Bond. 4. The thickness of the hybrid layer of Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus which is one of conventional adhesive was 6∼8 ㎛. 5. In the fractured surface, resin tags, resin cohesive fracture and dentin cohesive fracture were observed. 6. The relationship of the hybrid layer and the shear bond strength was confirmed.

        The surface information was extracted from the complete octree by using the geometric spatial structure of octree. Excluding the unnesassary inner structure, it reduced the computation time. Surface finding method was satisfied to the inner, outer border and multiple structure cases. Compared to the number of input voxels, the required memory size with surface data structure was reduced at all testing cases.

        In this study, experiments of a nikel elecroplating were performed in a supercritical nano-plating system using CO_2 as a supercritical fluid. Electrolyte and surfactant were important parameters on the nickel plating proces. Resistivity values decreased 60, 35, and 22 at 20, 30, and 50 wt% electrolyte, respectively, and over 60 wt%, the resistivity value was kept constant at 20. Surface properties of nickel film electroplated by the 60 wt% electrolyte solution with 2 wt% surfactant. The weight ratio of CO_2 and electrolyte as 1:9 was better then any other ratio in the plating properties.

      • Supercritical Nano-Plating 시스템에서 전기도금된 니켈 막의 표면특성에 관한 연구

        In this study, experiments of a nickel electroplating were performed in a supercritical nano-plating(SCNP) system using CO₂as a supercritical fluid. Surface properties of nickel film electroplated by the electrolyte solution with 0.2 vol% surfactant and volume ratio of CO₂and electrolyte as 1:9 was the best in the plating properties, where surface roughness(Ra) of nickel film plated for 30 min by SCNP was 0.021 ㎛. The property of plated film with this new method was better than that by a conventional method.
