전신마취 중에는 환자가 증상을 호소할 수 없기에 새롭게 발생하는 기흉을 진단하는 것은 어렵고 이 때문에 치명적인 긴장성 기흉으로의 악화가 될 가능성이 높다. 특히, 복강경 수술에서는 기흉의 진단이 개복 수술에서보다 더 힘들다. 복강경 수술에서 수술 시야 확보를 위해 이산화탄소 가스를 이용하여 기복강을 유지해야 하는데, 이 기복강 때문에 필연적으로 기도압력이 증가하고 고이산화탄소혈증이 발생하여 기흉의 진단을 더욱 어렵게 한다. 저자들은 복강경하 신요관절제수술을 받는 두 명의 환자에서 이산화탄소 기흉이 발생하여 이에 대한 원인과 진단, 치료에 대해서 문헌 고찰과 함께 보고합니다. Pneumothorax, specifically capnothorax, during laparoscopic surgery is more difficult to diagnose compared with that of patients under open laparotomy surgery, because of normally increased airway pressure and hypercapnia due to pneumoperitoneum using carbon dioxide gas. We report two case of rapid resolution of capnothorax during laparoscopic nephroureterectomy. The cause of capnothorax is diaphragmatic injury in one patient during surgical procedure, and the entry of carbon dioxide gas into thorax cavity through the weak point of diaphragm during prolonged length of pneumoperitoneum in another patient.
Feline Demographics and Disease Distribution in the Republic of Korea

The population of pet cats has increased significantly, from 0.3% in 2002 to 5.6% in 2017. Large-scale feline demographic and disease data from Korea are lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate the demographic data (breed, sex, and age) and disease distribution of cats who visited private veterinary practices in Korea. Data including breed, sex, age, and disease, were compiled from 32,728 electronic medical records from 30 selected private vet- erinary practices, between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2017. Diseases were classified based on the International Classification of Diseases 11 by the World Health Organization, and then compared and cross-analyzed according to breed, sex, and age. Korean shorthair was the most common breed. There was a high distribution of young cats, with 77.6% of the cats under 4 years of age, and an average age of 2.5 years. Diagnoses related to preventative medicine were the most frequent and diagnoses common to young cats had higher incidence. This demographic data and information about disease distribution can be used as a basis for future research and may be helpful for determining priorities in the diagnosis of diseases and establishing strategies for health management in cats.

Background: The normal vertebral anatomy of Korean raccoon dogs and their variants require research attention as a prerequisite for identifying pathologies and anomalies. Objectives: This retrospective study aimed at describing the vertebral formula and congenital vertebral anomalies in Korean raccoon dogs (Nyctereutes procyonoides koreensis). Methods: Radiographs of 82 raccoon dogs (42 males, 40 females) acquired from May 2013 to June 2020 in the Gangwon Wildlife Medical Rescue Center were reviewed to evaluate the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae of the spine. Results: Normal morphology of all vertebrae was observed in 50 of the 82 raccoon dogs, and the vertebral formula was cervical 7, thoracic 13, and lumbar 7. Congenital vertebral anomalies were found in 32 raccoon dogs: transitional vertebrae (TV) in 31 and block vertebrae in 2. Two raccoon dogs had 2 types of vertebral anomalies: one had TV and block vertebra, and the other had 2 types of TV. Twenty-nine raccoon dogs had thoracolumbar TV (TTV) and 3 had lumbosacral TV. TTV was morphologically classified into 4 different types: unilateral extra-rib in 5 raccoon dogs, bilateral extra-ribs in 14, bilateral elongated transverse processes in 4, and an asymmetric mixed formation of extra-rib with elongated transverse process in 6. Conclusions: This study showed that TTV is common in Korean raccoon dogs, and that the vertebral formula is relatively diverse. The bilateral extra-ribs type TTV is the most common variant, which is almost similar to normal rib to be confused the radiographic evaluation.
Management of Postoperative Intra-Abdominal Hypertension in a Dog Undergoing Cervical Disc Surgery

The dog with tetraplegia was presented for magnetic resonance imag- ing and cervical ventral slot decompression. Intra-abdominal pressure (IAP) was measured every hour after surgery, along with respiratory rate, heart rate, and arterial pressure. Three hours after surgery, abdominal distension with agitation and respiratory distress were observed, and IAP rose to 12 mmHg, indicating mild intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH). Additional fentanyl and ketamine CRI did not alleviate IAH and acepromazine (0.01 mg/kg, IV) was administered to al- leviate the agitation and respiratory distress. After acepromazine administration, the agitation subsided and IAP dropped to 4 mmHg. During the next 24 hours, the patient’s vital signs and IAP remained stable, with normal urine output. This case report suggests the possibility of postoperative IAH monitoring in dogs. However, considering the nature of a single surgical case of cervical ventral slot, further study is required for indication of IAH monitoring.
국내 대규모 영어 쓰기 평가에서의 자동채점의 적용 가능성 탐색

The purposes of this study are to test the performance of the KICE automated scoring system and explore how to apply this automated scoring system in the National English Ability Test (NEAT). The Level 2 writing test of the NEAT is composed of two items, and students' responses to these items are evaluated based on four rating domains: task completion, content, organization, and language use. In order to examine the performance of the automated scoring system, this study investigated the correlation and adjacent agreement between human scoring and automated scoring, rater severity using the many-facet Rasch model, test score reliability using G-theory, and scoring time and cost. Our study results clearly show that, in performance, the automated scoring is essentially equivalent to human scoring; and, in fact, the KICE automated scoring system is much more efficient than human raters in that it saves time and cost. Based on our findings, the current study suggests that a large corpus of Korean students be established, writing scoring standards be reformed, the efficiency of machine learning by adapting accurate standard scores be increased, and the development and complement of features be continued to improve the performance of the KICE automated scoring system. 본 연구의 목적은 국가영어능력평가시험 쓰기 자동채점 프로그램의 성능을 검증하여 공식적인 국가영어능력평가시험에서의 적용 가능성을 탐색하기 위한 것이다. 본 연구의 자동채점 대상인 국가영어능력평가시험 쓰기 2급은 일상생활에 관한 글쓰기(60 ~ 80단어 제한, 15분)와 자기 의견 쓰기(80 ~ 120단어 제한, 20분)의 두 문항으로 구성되어 있으며, 4개의 채점 영역(과제 완성, 내용, 구성, 언어 사용)별로 분석적인 채점이 이루어진다. 성능검증을 위해 인간채점과 자동채점에 따른 상관계수와 일치도 통계에 근거한 채점자 간신뢰도의 차이, 다국면 라쉬 모형에 근거한 채점자 엄격성의 차이, 검사점수의 일반화 가능도 계수의 차이, 시간 및 비용 차이 등에 대한 통계적 분석을 실시하였다. 성능 검증 결과, 자동채점이 인간채점과 유사한 수준의 성능을 보이는 것으로 확인되었으며, 특히 시간 및 비용의 효율성은 자동채점이 매우 우수한 것으로 나타났다.

The increased use of lithium-ion batteries in larger devices such as electric vehicles and energy storage devices has led to a need for improved battery performance. Researchers are developing cathode active materials with higher energy density, such as lithium phosphate and lithium transition metal compounds. Ternary cathode active materials with high capacity have also been developed, but there are issues with cation mixing and side reactions that can lead to reduced capacity, voltage drop, and even explosions. To address these issues, researchers are focusing on stabilizing and optimizing the cathode-electrolyte interface through methods such as coating with protective layers, cation or anion doping and changing of active materials structure. Herein, we briefly introduce and discuss the recent research with development trend of cathode material’s degradation solution for Li-ion batteries.

An 8-year-old castrated male Korean short hair cat was referred with chronic vomiting, diarrhea, and anorexia. The cat was diagnosed with alimentary lymphoma via fine needle aspiration. Three weeks later, he was presented again with anorexia. Hepatomegaly and hyperechoic change in the liver parenchyma were observed. Computed tomography while awake was performed and revealed hypoattenuation of the hepatic parenchyma. The cat was tentatively diagnosed with feline hepatic lipidosis secondary to alimentary lymphoma. In the feline patient with lymphoma, hepatomegaly is important to differentiate hepatic lipidosis from hepatic infiltration of lymphoma on liver. In the present case, fatty infiltration of the liver was identified via non-invasive, rapid, and convenient computed tomography examination in an awake cat with a lymphoma.
