A heavy rainfall in July 2018 caused sediment disasters in West Japan. In this disaster, some debris flow were occured on slopes that were not recognized the potential of the occurence of sediment disasters. In this report, based on the results of the sediment disaster emergency survey conducted in several cities in West Japan, we will report the distribution and examples of slopes where these disasters occurred. In addition, regarding the occurrence of debris flow, the features related to topography and weather were examined. In Japan, the hazards of sediment disasters are recognized based on whether the topography of the slope has the same conditions as the topography of sediment disasters that occurred in the past. In this report, we focused on the debris flow occured on the slope that was not recognized as a valley where the debris flow occurs(the valley depth is wider than the valley width). As a result of this survey, we were able to understand the characteristics of the debris flow that occurred at a slope that was not recognized dangerous of sediment disaster. We believe that this report will help improve the warning and evacuation system for future sediment disasters in Japan.

This study reports on the challenges to a model of resilient and adaptable SWM against flood in Asian tropical/pluvial countries, in order to adapt to frequent flood events that would be influenced by climate change. Collapse of Solid waste management by sudden natural disasters will directly lead to collapse of city. Here we have summarized some cases of flood waste handlings in tropical Asian cities that were attacked by flood disasters recently. Mega-scale city like Bangkok should have enough capacity to handle of flood waste though the inundation of some part of capital must be a considerable worst situation. In contrast, small and medium scale cities easily lost their ability to administrate under flooding situation if the prepared ness was not sufficient. Situation of "vulnerable" against to flood must be improved for quick recovery from disaster, and waste management systems is also expected to be more resilient. The goal of this study is to draw a scheme of guidance to improve or upgrade the solid waste management system in middle or small scale cities that leads the cities to be resilient against to flood.

Study Design: A retrospective study. Purpose: To examine the effectiveness of using an electrodiagnostic technique as a new approach in the clinical diagnosis of extraforaminal stenosis at L5–S1. Overview of Literature: We introduced a new effective approach to the diagnosis of extraforaminal stenosis at the lumbosacral junction using the existing electrophysiological evaluation technique. Methods: A consecutive series of 124 patients with fifth lumbar radiculopathy were enrolled, comprising a group of 74 patients with spinal canal stenosis and a second group of 50 patients with extraforaminal stenosis at L5–S1. The technique involved inserting a pair of needle electrodes into the foraminal exit zone of the fifth lumbar spinal nerves, which were used to provide electrical stimulation. The compound muscle action potentials from each of the tibialis anterior muscles were recorded. Results: The distal motor latency (DML) of the potentials ranged from 11.2 to 24.6 milliseconds in patients with extraforaminal stenosis. In contrast, the DML in patients with spinal canal stenosis ranged from 10.0 to 17.2 milliseconds. After comparing the DML of each of the 2 groups and at the same time comparing the differences in DML between the affected and unaffected side of each patient, we concluded there were statistically significant differences (p <0.01) between the 2 groups. Using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the cutoff values were calculated to be 15.2 milliseconds and 1.1 milliseconds, respectively. Conclusions: This approach using a means of DML measurement enables us to identify and localize lesions, which offers an advantage in diagnosing extraforaminal stenosis at L5–S1.
Mammalian Bax initiates plant cell death through organelle destruction

Mammalian Bax is known to cause cell death when expressed in plants. We examined transgenic plants expressing both Bax and oraganelle-targeted green fluorescent protein to determine the cellular changes that occur during Bax-induced cell death. The mitochondria changed morphologically from being bacilli-shaped to being round, eventually becoming swollen. Mitochondria streaming also stopped. The chloroplasts lost membrane function and their contents leaked out, followed by the disruption of the vacuole. Light was not essential for Bax-induced ion leakage or organelle disruption. These results indicate that Bax-induces temporal and spatial cell death events at the organelle level in the plant. A heterologous system, using Bax, would therefor be available to investigate cell death, which is commonly conserved in animals and plants
