      • 가막만에 출현하는 동물플랑크톤의 종조성과 계절별 출현 양상

        가막만에 출현하는 동물플랑크톤을 계절별(2001년 4월, 7월, 9월, 12월)로 Norpac네트를 이용하여 수직 채집하였다. 우점적으로 출현한 분류군은 4월과 12월에 요각류, 7월에 요각류와 지각류,9월에 야광충이었다. 출현 개체수는 22~17,197indiv. m^-3으로 시·공간적으로 변동폭이 매우 컸다. 요각류의 우점종은 4월에 Euryte-mora pacifica, Acartio omorii, Cenfropages abdominalis, Colanus sinicus, 7월에 Lobidocera rofunda와 A. erythraea, 9월에 A. eryfhraea와 Paracalanus parvus s. l., 12월에 A. omorii와 E. pacifca로 주로 내만종으로 변하였다. 그러나, 9월에 외양종인 Eucalanus sp.와 Neo-calnus sp. 또한 다수 출현하였다. 이와 같은 출현 경향은 가막만이 폐쇄성 내만임에도 불구하고 동물플랑크톤의 분포 특성은 내만수 이외에 계절적으로 외만수의 영향을 강하게 받고 있음을 암시하고 있다. Zooplankton was sampled vertically with a Norpac net from Gamag Bay in April, July, September and December, 2001. Copepods were predominant in April and December, and cladocerans in July and Noctiluca scintillans in September, respectively. There are high spatio-temporal fluctuations in the abundance of zooplankton with a range of 22∼17,197 indiv./㎥. In the copepod community, neritic species, Eurytemora pacifica, Acartia omorii, Centropages abdominalis and Calanus sinicus were predominant in April; Labidocera rotunda and A. erythraea in July; A. erythraea and Paracalanus parvus s. l. in September; A. omorii and E. pacifica in December. However, oceanic species Eucalanus sp. and Neocalanus sp. were abundant in September. It indicates that although Gamag Bay is semi-closed, the distribution pattern of zooplankton is seasonally strongly affected by oceanic waters in addition to neritic ones.

        Use of insulin detemir in dogs with diabetes mellitus

        Insulin detemir is a long-acting basal insulin analogue recently introduced in veterinary medicine for treatment of canine diabetes mellitus. As there are only limited studies in dogs, long-term evaluation of insulin detemir in veterinary medicine is required. In this study, we investigated trends in12-hour blood glucose concentration during hospitalization and evaluated initial and following doses of insulin detemir for several months in six diabetic dogs. The mean levels of blood glucose over 12-hour periods were between 113.5 to 327.2 mg/dL, and the average glucose nadir was 103 mg/dL in the six dogs. The dogs were treated with a mean dosage of 0.24 U/kg of insulin detemir, but hypoglycemia was observed in four of the dogs at the first monthly follow-up. Thus, insulin doses were adjusted according to the nadir levels of glucose observed during the follow-up periods (range, 1 to 16 months). The total range of insulin doses throughout the study period was between 0.1 and 0.4 U/kg. Changes in insulin doses in each dog during the follow-up period were not variable. We suggest that insulin detemir might be not only an alternative choice against traditional insulin for patients with insulin resistance or concurrent disease but also an effective home therapy medication in canine patients with DM. This study could help inform veterinary practitioners regarding the use of insulin detemir for canine insulin-dependent DM.

        This study was designed to observe the effects of feeding dietary fiber on the improvement of the fatty acid metabolism in brain, heart and lung in dietary hypercholesterolemic rats. Experimental groups with 5% level of cellulose(A group as control group), chinese cabbage root(B group),tora stalk (C group)and sweet potato stalk (D group)were adminstered to the male rats of the Sprague-Dawley for 4 weeks. The results obtaind are as follows. In the fatty acid composition of total lipid, phospholipid in the brain, the docosahexaenoic acid in the PUFA was major fatty acid. In the fatty acid composition of total lipid, phospholipid in the brain, the docosahexaenoic acid in the PUFA was major fatty acid. While in the fatty acid composition total lipid and phospholipid in the heart, the eicosapentaenoic acid in the PUFA was major fatty acid. And in the fatty acid composition of total lipid and phospholipid in the lung, the content of palmitic acid and oleic acid were higer than other fatty acid. These fats were influenced by the fatty acid composition of the test lipids. From the above result, the feeding of chinese root was effective on the improvement of the lipid compositions in principal organ tissue.

      • 韓國 영유아의 蛋白칼로리 營養失調에 關한 硏究

        A study was conducted by the author in September 1968 towards the infants and young children in some underprivileged rural villages of Korea by employing such methods as clinical assessment, nutritional biometry, and biochemical tests, in an attempt to evaluate their nutritional status with possible reference to protein calorie malnutrition (PCM). The infants and young children examined totaled 232 of whom 111 were boys and 121 were girls. The results are as follows: Ⅰ. Clinical Assessment The prevalence rates of the signs suggestive of PCM turned out to be as below : 1) Cases with dyspigmented hair were observed with 4.5% of the 45 infants examined. and 18.8% of the 187 young children examined. Cases with thin and sparse hair were seen with 22.8% of the infants, 14.0% of the young children, and l5.2% of both the infants and young children. 2) Prevalence of the pale conjunctiva rated 28.6% of the infants. 32.3% of the young children, and 30.4% of both the infants and young children. 3) Keratomalacia cases were found in 0.5% of the young children only and they corresponded, in turn, to 0.4% of the whole examined. 4) Cases with angulostomatitis rated 14.0% of the young children only, who constituted 10.0% of the total examined. 5) Those with moon-face were observed only with 2.3% of the infants, rating 0.4% of the total. 6) Cases with flaky-paint dermatosis were observed with 2.3% of the infants, 0.5% of the young children, and 0.9% of both the infants and young children. 7) Those who were found to have such skin lesions as fissure of the ear lobe, tender sores, or moist groin rash rated 15.9% of the infants, 20.4% of the young children, and 19.6% of both the infants and children. 8) Rate of those with muscles wasted was 11.4% of the infants, 25.8% of the young children, and 23.0% of both the infants and young children. 9) Those with edema were observed only with 0.5% of the young children. rating 0.4% of the total. 10) Psychomotor changes (apathetic, miserable, inert, withdrawn, or anorexic) rated 7.0% of the young children only, and 5.7% of the whole examined. 11) Prevalence rate of diarrhea precipitating dehydration and such other conditioning infections as thrush was found to be 20.5% of the infants, 7.5% of the young children, and 10.0% of both the infants and young children. 12) The results of clinical assessment led the author to the following findings: (1) Those corresponding to 29.1% of the whole examined had one or two combined signs suggestive of PCM. (2) Those with three or more signs combined rated 1.3% of the total children examined. (3) No clinically obvious kwashiorkor was found, but each of the component signs which, in constant combination, characterize it (edema, muscle-wasting, and psychomotor changes) was separately observed mainly with the young children as presented in table 2. (4) Those who impressed the author with clinically obvious nutritional marasmus were 6.7% of the infants, 3.2% of the young children, and 3.9% of both the infants and young children. Ⅱ. Nutritional Biometry 1) The mean heights. weights, chest circumference, and head circumference obtained were as shown in table 3. 2) The mean triceps skin-fold thickness, upper mid-arm-circumference. and upper-mid-arm-muscle circumference were as presented in table 4. 3) Distribution of the heights by four levels of 10% intervals indicated underweights in the light of Korean general standard, as shown in table 10. 4) Distribution of the weights contrasted likewise with the Korean general standard were as shown in table 11. 5) The underweights demonstrated by cases of mild-moderate PCM computed at four levels of 10% intervals as against the Korean general standard, rated 42.2% of the infants, 42.8% of the young children, and 42.7% of both the infants and young children. by the criteria Dr. Jelliffe suggested ??. The severe PCM cases were comprised 31.1% of the infants, 7.5% of the young children. and 12.1% of both groups of them. In the light of the above rates, more than a half of the children examined were found to be affected with PCM ascribable to deficiency of both the protein and calorie. 6) The cases with "Chest circumference/Head circumference Ratio being below 1 after the first 6 months of life" suggestive of the wasting of pectoral muscles which is attributable to PCM corresponded to 57.1% of the infants, 25.1% of the young children, and 29.3% of both the infants and young children as shown in table 13. Ⅲ. Biochemical Tests 1) Hemoglobin levels were found to be anemic (level less than 10.8gm%) with 13.8% of the 80 children examined as presented in table 5. 2) Serum total protein and serum albumin levels were as shown in tables 6 and 7, respectively. The serum albumin levels turned out to be normal with 75.9%, and "low"(2.80gm%∼3.51gm%) with 24.1% of the examined. No deficiency level (less than 2.80gm%) was found among the 29 children. 3) Serum iron content and total serum iron-bindin capacity (TIBC) were as shown in table 8. The deficiency levels of serum iron content less than 50 microgram % comprised 33.3% of the 21 children examined. Those corresponding to 25% and 75% of the 16 children examined had values of TIBC within normal range (300 microgram %∼400 microgram %) and values below the normal range (less than 300 microgram %), respectively, and no case exceeded over the range of normality inspite of the low serum iron content, suggesting the possible ascription to chronic protein deficiency ??. 4) "Urinary Urea-nitrogen / Creatinie-nitrogen excretion Ratios" regarded as an approximte index of dietary adequacy related to muscle storage of protein were obtained as presented in table 9. The cases with the ratios "30 or less" (an indication of malnutrition related to dietary adequacy of protein) rated 58.8% of the 34 children examined.

      • In-depth considerations for better polyelectrolytes as interfacial materials in polymer solar cells

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We perform a comprehensive study to achieve better polyelectrolytes (PEs) as electron-transport layers (ETLs) in polymer solar cells (PSCs). Three well-known PEs – PFN, PEIE, and WPF – are chosen as model systems and investigated with variations in their backbone structures and the state of the amine functionalities on their side chains. Respectively optimized PSCs using the three PEs exhibit different cell-performances, mainly owing to the diode characteristics of built-in potential and recombination strength. To identify how such deviated device-performances correlate with the structural features of PEs, the modulated interfaces of ITO/PEs and PEs/active layer are studied in detail. It is found that conjugated backbones and larger counter-anions on side chains can promote the modulation of ITO work functions (WFs) and that a large amount of protonated amines on PEs is beneficial for junction properties with a subsequent active layer. Additionally, our results indicate that interfacial dipole and electrical doping between the PE and active layer, in addition to WF modulation of the ITO cathode, are important for device efficiency. Accordingly, with the aid of the molecular features of PEIE, PEIE-PSCs exhibit excellent device efficiency and stability compared with PFN- and WPF-PSCs. In the PTB7-th:PC<SUB>71</SUB>BM system, a remarkable power-conversion efficiency of 9.97% is achieved with a single PEIE ETL.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Chemical structure and performance of polyelectrolytes (PEs) in PSCs are correlated. </LI> <LI> Interfacial dipole and doping between PEs and active layer lead to efficient PSCs. </LI> <LI> PEIE-based PSCs have excellent device efficiency and high stability. </LI> <LI> Especially, in the PTB7-th system, encouraging efficiency of 9.97% is achieved. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        Low serum bilirubin level predicts the develop-ment of chronic kidney disease in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus

        Background/Aims: We evaluated whether serum bilirubin levels can predict the development of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T<sub>2</sub>DM). Methods: This was a retrospective observational longitudinal study of patients presenting at the Pusan National University Hospital. A total of<sub>349</sub> patients with T<sub>2</sub>DM and preserved kidney function (estimated glomerular filtration rate ≥ 60 mL/min/1.73 m<sup>2</sup>) were enrolled. The main outcome was the development of CKD stage 3 or greater. The patients were divided into four groups according to the quartiles of the total serum bilirubin levels at baseline. Results: The group with the lowest range of total serum bilirubin level (Q<sub>1</sub>) showed the highest cumulative incidence of CKD stage 3 or greater than that of the other lower quartiles (Q<sub>1</sub> vs. Q<sub>4</sub>; hazard ratio [HR], 6.75; 95% confidence in-terval [CI], 1.54 to 29.47; p = 0.011). In multivariate analysis, the risk of developing CKD stage 3 or greater was higher in the second lowest quartile of the serum bili-rubin level than that in the highest quartile of the serum bilirubin level (Q<sub>2</sub> vs. Q<sub>4</sub>; HR, 9.36; 95% CI, 1.33 to 65.73; p = 0.024). In the normoalbuminuria subgroup (n = 236), multivariate analysis showed that the risk of developing CKD stage 3 or greater was higher in the lowest quartile of the serum bilirubin level than that in the highest quartile of the serum bilirubin level (Q1 vs. Q4; HR, 7.36; 95% CI, 1.24 to 35.82; p = 0.019). Conclusions: Serum bilirubin might be an early clinical marker for predicting the progression of CKD in patients with T<sub>2</sub>DM and preserved renal function.

      • Third-Generation P2Y<sub>12</sub> Inhibitors in East Asian Acute Myocardial Infarction Patients: A Nationwide Prospective Multicentre Study

        <P>Third-generation P2Y(12) inhibitors (prasugrel, ticagrelor) are recommended in acute myocardial infarction (AMI). We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of third-generation P2Y(12) inhibitors in East Asian AMI patients. From the Korean AMI Registry, 9,355 patients who received dual antiplatelet agent (aspirin with clopidogrel [AC], 6,444 [70.5%] patients; aspirin with prasugrel [AP], 1,100 [11.8%] patients; or aspirin with ticagrelor [AT], 1,811 [19.4%] patients) were analysed. In-hospital endpoints were all-cause mortality or bleeding events during admission and 1-year endpoints were major adverse cardiac and cerebrovascular events(MACCE) andmajor bleedingevents. Regardingin-hospital events, AP andAT showed similar all-causemortality rates but higher bleeding event rates comparedwith AC. This trend was extended to 1-year endpoints; Cox regression analysis showed that thirdgeneration P2Y(12) inhibitors had significantly higher bleeding risk (AP vs. AC: hazard ratio [HR], 2.14; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.53-2.99; p < 0.001; AT vs. AC: HR, 2.26; 95% CI, 1.73-2.95; p < 0.001). A propensity scorematched tripletof 572 patients showed similar 1year MACCE and higher bleeding events with third-generation P2Y(12) inhibitors (2.1 vs. 2.6 vs. 2.1%, p = 0.790 for MACCE and 3.1 vs. 8.0 vs. 8.0%, p < 0.001 for bleeding events, in AC, AP andAT groups, respectively). Inverse probabilityweighted regression analysis and pooled analysis after randomly imputing missing variables showed consistent results. Collectively, prasugrel and ticagrelor showed similar rates of 1-year MACCE, but a higher rate of bleeding events, compared with clopidogrel in Korean AMI patients. Further studies are warranted to adapt Western guidelines on third-generation P2Y(12) inhibitors for East Asians.</P>

      • Transfer of ultrathin molybdenum disulfide and transparent nanomesh electrode onto silicon for efficient heterojunction solar cells

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs) are very promising for photovoltaic (PV) applications due to their excellent light absorption properties and appropriate bandgap energy, Although multifunctional applications of TMDCs in photovoltaic devices have been achieved, the photovoltaic conversion efficiency under 1 sun is still very low with small active area because of their inexpedient high sheet resistance and limitation of synthesis techniques. In this study, we demonstrate uniform synthesis of 4-in. wafer-scale MoS<SUB>2</SUB> thin films by thermal decomposition of solution precursors. The solar cells are fabricated by transferring n-MoS<SUB>2</SUB> thin films on p-Si substrates to form p-n heterojunctions and then transferring Au nanomeshes prepared in a novel surface treatment as transparent top electrodes onto MoS<SUB>2</SUB>. The circular n-MoS<SUB>2</SUB>/p-Si heterojunction solar cell exhibited a power conversion efficiency of 5.96% at a diameter of 0.3 in. and proved to be easily scalable to 1-in. diameter with 5.18% efficiency. To the best of our knowledge, the solar cells of this study are the most efficient and the largest in all types of solar cells based on TMDC reported so far. Finally, based on finite difference time-domain simulation, we proposed a strategy for implementing n-MoS<SUB>2</SUB>/p-Si heterojunction solar cell with efficiency higher than 15% by introducing optimal doping control of n-MoS<SUB>2</SUB> and efficient anti-reflection layers.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> The large scale, uniform (4-in.)       • 鷄糞의 飼料利用性에 關한 硏究 : 乾燥鷄糞의 採卵鷄育成에 있어서의 經濟性 Economic returns of Dried poultry waste in brooding of Laying hens

        1. In order to decide a feasibility for partial substitution of dried poultry waste for complete formula feed and to decide an eligible levels for the substitution, growing trials were carried out under four treatments with three veplications in randomized block design, and the treatments were based upon the substitution rates such as 5%, 10%, 15% and check for two groups of chicks for Layer, namely, 7 to 12 weeks aged one and 13 to 20 weeks aged one. 2. While no significant differences were found in the increased body weight, feed consumption and egglaying rate among the treatments, partial substitution of the D. P. W, for complete formula feed seemed to be feasible, like as that of grain or grain bran, since no any interruptions were occurred in the way of the substitution. 3. The reason that the feeding efficiency of substitution of D. P. W. for complete formula feed to those of 13 to 20 weeks aged chicks, was shown far better than that of those of 7 to 12 weeks aged chicks, seemed to be attributable to the less nutrient deficlency derived from those substitutions. Therefore, such results might be reflected to those advantages for 13 to 20 weeks aged chicks over those of the other chicks. 4. While no significant differences were found in egg laying rate and egg weight among the treatments, 15% substitution plot showed a little over that of check plot, and this result might indicate that the egg laying may not be influenced by the substitution of feeding. 5. Refering to economic returns of substitution utilization of D. P. W for complete formula feed, while the advantages were shown top grade at 5% and in order of 10%, 15% of the substitution on 7 to 12 weeks aged chicks, advantages were also shown in order of 5%, 10%, 15% of the substitution on 13 to 20 weeks aged chicks. These results seemed to be feasible even in beyond of 15% of the substitution. 6. Since it was not able to find out the eligible levels of the substitution D. P. W. for complete formula feed for 13 to 20 weeks aged chicks in this study, the following studies shall be desirable in the future. (1) eligible substitution levels of D. P. W. for complete formula feed in those of 13 to 20 weeks aged chicks. (2) economic returns for Laying Hens through substitution D. P. W. for complete foumula feed in growing.

        지연성 수면위상증후군 청소년에서 기상 시 어려움과 주간 졸림에 대한 Dawn Simulation 효과 연구

        Objectives : Delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS) is characterized by difficulties in falling asleep and waking up at a desired time. Dawn simulation is a technique using a light that gradually increases in intensity before awakening in the morning, to imitate a natural sunrise. It has been found to be effective in decreasing both morning drowsiness and difficulty in awakening as well as treating symptoms of seasonal affective disorder. The aim of this study was to determine whether dawn simulation is helpful in decreasing difficulty in morning awakening and daytime sleepiness in adolescents with DSPS. Methods : Twelve adolescents with DSPS participated in a 2-week dawn simulation trial. Each subject self-assessed level of difficulty in awakening, morning drowsiness and daytime sleepiness during a 2-week baseline period and a following 2-week trial period with dawn simulator. Subjects used Stanford Sleepiness Scale (SSS) for measuring morning drowsiness and Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) for measuring daytime sleepiness. Difficulty in awakening was assessed by a single-item questionnaire. Results : Dawn simulation trial decreased morning drowsiness (p=0.016) and daytime sleepiness (p=O.013) significantly compared to baseline. It also seemed to improve difficulty in awakening, but the effect was not statistically significant (p=0.092). Conclusion : Dawn simulation may help waking up in the morning and may improve daytime functioning by deceasing both morning drowsiness and daytime sleepiness in adolescents with DSPS.
