An Unusual Radiologic Pattern of Cryptogenic Organizing Pneumonia: Diffuse Pulmonary Nodules in a Leukemia Patient

        Kai-Hsiung Ko,Hsian-He Hsu,Woei-Yau Kao,Ching-Feng Chang,Ming-Fang Cheng,Guo-Shu Huang 대한영상의학회 2009 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.10 No.1

The radiological appearance of diffuse discrete pulmonary nodules associated with cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) has been rarely described. We describe a case of COP in 49-year-old woman with acute myeloid leukemia who developed diffuse pulmonary nodules during the second course of induction chemotherapy. The clinical status of the patient and imaging findings suggested the presence of a pulmonary metastasis or infectious disease. A video-assisted thoracoscopic lung biopsy resulted in the unexpected diagnosis of COP as an isolated entity. Steroid therapy led to dramatic improvement of the clinical symptoms and the pulmonary lesions. Genome-wide identification of polyphenol oxidase (PPO) family members in eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) and their expression in response to low temperature

        Xiao Kai,Liu Xiaohui,Zhang Aidong,Zha Dingshi,Zhu WeiMin,Tan Feng,Huang Qianru,Zhou Yaru,Zhang Min,Li Jianyong,Wu Xuexia 한국원예학회 2022 Horticulture, Environment, and Biotechnology Vol.63 No.5

Browning of fresh-cut eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) reduces its sensory and nutritional qualities and further influences consumption. Polyphenolic oxidases (PPOs) are key enzymes involved in browning, but the mechanisms that regulate the expression of PPO genes are still unclear. Here, 12 SmPPO genes were identified and phylogenetic analysis clustered these genes into four branches. Protein and cis-regulatory element analyses showed that the SmPPO gene family has a conserved gene structure and diverse functions. Gene expression analysis in different tissues showed that the expression of SmPPO2, SmPPO3, SmPPO6, SmPPO7, and SmPPO10 was higher in the flesh of the browning-sensitive inbred line ‘36’ than in the flesh of the browning-resistant line ‘Fu’. Furthermore, almost all SmPPO genes in ‘36’ were upregulated at 4 °C and 36 °C compared with those in ‘Fu’, and the expression increased earlier after harvest. In addition, SmPPO1, SmPPO6, SmPPO7, and SmPPO10 expression was significantly elevated in ‘36’ after 2 days at 36 °C. These results suggest that SmPPOs are key modulators of eggplant browning and provide candidate genes for further research on the mechanisms regulating fruit browning.

Mutation of IPO13 causes recessive ocular coloboma, microphthalmia, and cataract

        Xiu-Feng Huang,Lue Xiang,Wan Cheng,Fei-Fei Cheng,Kai-Wen He,Bo-Wen Zhang,Si-Si Zheng,Ru-Yi Han,Yi-Han Zheng,Xiao-Tao Xu,Huan-Yun Yu,Wenjuan Zhuang,Yuk Fai Leung,Zi-Bing Jin 생화학분자생물학회 2018 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.50 No.-

Ocular coloboma is a developmental structural defect of the eye that often occurs as complex ocular anomalies. However, its genetic etiology remains largely unexplored. Here we report the identification of mutation (c.331C>T, p. R111C) in the IPO13 gene in a consanguineous family with ocular coloboma, microphthalmia, and cataract by a combination of whole-exome sequencing and homozygosity mapping. IPO13 encodes an importin-B family protein and has been proven to be associated with the pathogenesis of coloboma and microphthalmia. We found that Ipo13 was expressed in the cornea, sclera, lens, and retina in mice. Additionally, the mRNA expression level of Ipo13 decreased significantly in the patient compared with its expression in a healthy individual. Morpholinooligonucleotide- induced knockdown of ipo13 in zebrafish caused dose-dependent microphthalmia and coloboma, which is highly similar to the ocular phenotypes in the patient. Moreover, both visual motor response and optokinetic response were impaired severely. Notably, these ocular phenotypes in ipo13-deficient zebrafish could be rescued remarkably by full-length ipo13 mRNA, suggesting that the phenotypes observed in zebrafish were due to insufficient ipo13 function. Altogether, our findings demonstrate, for the first time, a new role of IPO13 in eye morphogenesis and that loss of function of IPO13 could lead to ocular coloboma, microphthalmia, and cataract in humans and zebrafish.

An Emission-Aware Day-Ahead Power Scheduling System for Internet of Energy

        ( Chenn-jung Huang ),( Kai-wen Hu ),( An-feng Liu ),( Liang-chun Chen ),( Chih-ting Chen ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.10

As a subset of the Internet of Things, the Internet of Energy (IoE) is expected to tackle the problems faced by the current smart grid framework. Notably, the conventional day-ahead power scheduling of the smart grid should be redesigned in the IoE architecture to take into consideration the intermittence of scattered renewable generations, large amounts of power consumption data, and the uncertainty of the arrival time of electric vehicles (EVs). Accordingly, a day-ahead power scheduling system for the future IoE is proposed in this research to maximize the usage of distributed renewables and reduce carbon emission caused by the traditional power generation. Meanwhile, flexible charging mechanism of EVs is employed to provide preferred charging options for moving EVs and flatten the load profile simultaneously. The simulation results revealed that the proposed power scheduling mechanism not only achieves emission reduction and balances power load and supply effectively, but also fits each individual EV user’s preference.

      • Design and Implementation of Power-Saving Multicast Routing Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks

        Yu-Zhi Huang,Wen-Jiunn Liu,Kai-Ten Feng 보안공학연구지원센터 2008 International Journal of Software Engineering and Vol.2 No.2

How to provide low energy consumption and high packet delivery ratio are considered the major issues in the protocol design for the Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The main focus of this paper is to reduce the number of data transmissions within the WSNs for decreasing the energy consumption of the sensor nodes. In the wired networks, the Steiner-Tree is regarded as the optimal approach for constructing the multicast structure for specific senders and receiver. However, the results can not be directly applied to the wireless environment. In this paper, an Energy Conserving Multicast Routing (ECMR) protocol is proposed to reduce the total number of relaying nodes for the construction of a multicast tree. It is designed to be a heuristic scheme since achieving a minimal cost multicast tree is considered an NP-Hard problem in the wireless broadcast environment. Moreover, the proposed algorithm is implemented on practical embedded platforms for performance evaluation. Comparing with the existing multicast routing protocol, the experimental results show that the proposed ECMR scheme can provide better energy conservation while the packet delivery ratio is still preserved.

Strain evolution and morphological transition of magnetron-sputtered CeO2 thin films induced by deposition parameters

        Yanyi Zhang,Feng Feng,Huang Rongxia,Kai Shi,Shaozhu Xiao,WeiWu,Timing Qu,Xiaohao Wang,Zhenghe Han 한국물리학회 2014 Current Applied Physics Vol.14 No.3

Cerium dioxide (CeO2) films were fabricated on yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) single crystals using unbalanced radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering. X-ray diffraction measurements revealed film strain discrepancies under different deposition parameters. Strain evolution was induced by varying sputtering pressure, RF power, and sputtering gas. A distinct morphological transition from a granular surface to an interwoven surface was also realized by varying the above parameters. On the basis of the “atomic peening” mechanism, the influence of different parameters on film strainwas discussed. The film surface characteristics were revealed to be highly correlated with film strain. YBa2Cu3O7d (YBCO) films were post-deposited on the as-grown CeO2/YSZ(001) stack by using the trifluoroacetate metal-organic deposition (TFA-MOD) method. The superconducting property of the YBCO layer varied significantly with the morphology of the CeO2 buffer films.

Molecular Biology and Omics : Direct Evaluation of the Effect of Gene Dosage on Secretion of Protein from Yeast Pichia pastoris by Expressing EGFP

( Hai Long Liu ),( Yu Feng Qin ),( Yuan Kai Huang ),( Yao Sheng Chen ),( Pei Qing Cong ),( Zu Yong He ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2014 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.24 No.2

Increasing the gene copy number has been commonly used to enhance the protein expression level in the yeast Pichia pastoris. However, this method has been shown to be effective up to a certain gene copy number, and a further increase of gene dosage can result in a decrease of expression level. Evidences indicate the gene dosage effect is product-dependent, which needs to be determined when expressing a new protein. Here, we describe a direct detection of the gene dosage effect on protein secretion through expressing the enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP) gene under the direction of the α-factor preprosequence in a panel of yeast clones carrying increasing copies of the EGFP gene (from one to six copies). Directly examined under fluorescence microscopy, we found relatively lower levels of EGFP were secreted into the culture medium at one copy and two copies, substantial improvement of secretion appeared at three copies, plateau happened at four and five copies, and an apparent decrease of secretion happened at six copies. The secretion of EGFP being limiting at four and five copies was due to abundant intracellular accumulation of proteins, observed from the fluorescence image of yeast and confirmed by western blotting, which significantly activated the unfolded protein response indicated by the up-regulation of the BiP (the KAR2 gene product) and the protein disulfide isomerase. This study implies that tagging a reporter like GFP to a specific protein would facilitate a direct and rapid determination of the optimal gene copy number for high-yield expression.

Modeling and Analysis of an Avionic Battery Discharge Regulator

        Chen, Qian,Yu, Haihong,Huang, Xiaoming,Lu, Yi,Qiu, Peng,Tong, Kai,Xuan, Jiazhuo,Xu, Feng,Xuan, Xiaohua,Huang, Weibo,Zhang, Yajing The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2016 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.16 No.3

The avionic battery discharge regulator (BDR) plays an important role in a power-conditioning unit. With its merits of high efficiency, stable transfer function, and continuous input and output currents, the non-isolated Weinberg converter (NIWC) is suitable for avionic BDR. An improved peak current control strategy is proposed to achieve high current-sharing accuracy. Current and voltage regulators are designed based on a small signal model of a three-module NIWC system. The system with the designed regulators operates stably under any condition and achieves excellent transient response and current-sharing accuracy.

        Xia Chengyu,Sun Qiaolei,Feng Ding,Chen Min,Huang Kai,Tu Yiliu 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.11 No.7

With the development of drilling technology and the needs of the larger Bulit-up, the screw drill with larger structure corner is used more widely in drilling field. Because the existence of single curved screw drill tool with larger structure corner, it have larger friction during the bend PDM in the process of internal casing, so we often need to use the wellhead adjuvant into the well. In order to understand the single bent screw drill into the state in the wellhead diameter of casing, and how the angle of screw structure impact the feasibility, This paper analysis the stress of the single curved screw drilling tools in the well, and the condition it can safely through the mouth of the well conditions, establish the single bend PDM in the calculation wellhead down model. and the finite element model is established combined with the specific parameters of a well which is in the western of SiChuan depression. Using ansys analysis a particular casing inside diameter, under wellhead vertical segment into different structure when the turn of the screw drilling tools down into characteristics and stress distribution characteristics, it is concluded how large of the structure corners and how depth that the bend PDM can rely on gravity well down into the inside diameter of 250.19 mm casing, concluded the relationship between reaction force, friction force, and maximum stress with the well depth and the change of structure corners from 1.5°to 2.75°,provide a basis for drilling site selection of the appropriate combinations of screw drill and how to regulate the radial force of the device while into the well.
