        Structure-based magnetic, electrical and transport properties of Ni–Zn–Co ferrite by V5+ substitution

        This article presents the modification of structure-based magnetic, electronic and transport properties along with the conduction mechanism and its relaxation process in a Ni–Zn–Co ferrite tailored by V5+ substitution at B-site replacing Fe3+ ions. The composition Ni0.7Zn0.2Co0.1Fe2-xVxO4 (0≤ x≤ 0.12) was synthesized by standard solid-state reaction method and all samples were crystallized with a single-phase cubic spinel structure belonging to the Fd3m space group. The lattice constants decreased gradually from 8.3673≽A to 8.3602≽A and the average grain sizes (DSEM) are also decreased from 6.92 μm to 1.99 μm due to V5+ ions substitution at Fe3+ of B-site. However, more than 25% of Fe3+ ions migrate to A-site from B-site due to V5+ substitution at Fe3+ of B-site. In all samples θD does not strictly follow the Anderson’s prediction, rather it monotonically decreases to a low value until x = 0.12. Magnetic phase transition temperature shifted to the lower temperature and the net magnetization (ηeB) decreases due to V5+ substitution in Ni–Zn–Co ferrite. Apart this, during conduction charge carriers should require more energy to jump from one cationic site to other for V5+ substitution in the Ni–Zn–Co ferrite and the activation energy (Ea) is much more higher in V5+ substituted sample. Moreover, long-range interaction with localized relaxation mechanism is observed in V5+ doped samples. The resistance at the grain (Rg) is maximum (243.09 Ω) for the sample x = 0.10 while grain boundary resistance (Rgb) is maximum (5.98×105 Ω) for the sample x = 0.07. However, the higher value of ρdC for x = 0.12 sample ensures to be suitable for electromagnets, transformers, electronic inductors, and at high-frequency applications. Moreover, x = 0.07 sample displays high value of TCR ( -8.6%/K at 418 K) which may be utilized as an infrared detector for night vision bolometer material.

        Effects of Rhizobium Inoculant, Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Molybdenum on Nodulation, Yield, and Seed Protein in Pea

        The effects of Rhizobium inoculant, nitrogen, phosphorus, and molybdenum on nodulation, dry matter production, yield attributes, pod and seed yields, protein and phosphorus contents in seed of pea (pisum sativum) var. IPSA Motorshuti-3 were assessed by a field experiment. Among the treatments Rhizobium inoculant in combination with 25kg P and 1.5kg Mo/ha performed best in recording number of nodules/plant, total dry matter yield, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod, 1000-seed weight, green pod yield, green and mature seed yields of pea. The highest green pod yield of 15.37 t/ha (97.05~% increase over control) and green seed yield of 9.6t/ha (69.31~% increase over control) were obtained by inoculating pea with Rhizobium inoculant in association with 25kg P and 1.5 Mo/ha. The effects of 60 or 120kg N/ha were comparable to Rhizobium inoculant in most cases. There were positive correlations among yield attributes, yield, protein and phosphorus contents in seeds of pea. From the viewpoint of yield attributes, yield, and seed quality, application of Rhizobium inoculant along with 25kg P and 1.5kg Mo/ha was considered to be the balanced combination of nutrients for achieving the maximum output from cultivation of pea in Shallow-Red Brown Terrace Soil of Bangladesh.

        Performance Evaluation of SME Banking in Bangladesh using Stochastic Frontier Analysis

        Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are suitable to provide employment with lower investment in densely populated countries like Bangladesh. A stochastic frontier model is used to evaluate performance of SME Banking of the commercial banks in Bangladesh. Input (Total Deposit, Cost of Fund and Salary Expenditure) and output (Finance to SME) data are collected on 45 banks which are dealt with SME for 13 quarters from $1^{st}$quarter of 2010 to $2^{nd}$quarter of 2013. Average performance of the SME banking is 0.716 in Bangladesh. That is, banks have opportunity to increase 30% performance in SME banking from the same inputs. Bangladesh Development Bank has lowest performance (0.540) while Eastern bank has the highest performance (0.753). Highest (0.743) and lowest (0.662) performance is observed during the second quarter of 2013 and fourth quarter of 2010 respectively. Inefficient Bank might be benefited by following the rules of efficient banks.

        An intelligent system for the design of RC slabs

        The accurate finite element (FE) simulation of reinforced concrete (RC) slabs, having different boundary conditions and subjected to uniformly distributed loading, has led to the use of the developed FE models for generating results of ultimate loads from predictions of 'computer-model' RC slabs having different material and geometric properties. Equations derived from these results constitute the primary database of an intelligent computer-aided-design (CAD) system developed for accurate and fast information retrieval on arbitrary slabs. The system is capable of generating a secondary database through systems of interpolation and can be used for design assistance purposes.

        EFFECT OF FEEDING STRAW SUPPLEMENTING WITH UREA MOLASSES BLOCK LICK ON THE PERFORMANCE OF SHEEP

        The experiment was conducted to study the effect of supplementary urea molasses block lick with rice straw based diet on the performance of sheep. Six indigenous sheep of about two years of age with an average body weight of 12.88 kg, were selected for this experiment They grouped into two by stratified randomization, and the experiment was conducted for a period of 90 days. Sheep of group A was fed rice straw and group B was feed rice straw with urea molasses block lick, beside this both the groups received 66 g wheat bran and 167 g of Ipil-Ipil leaf meat. The study revealed that the average daily gain of live weight per sheep per day was 41 gm and 70 gm in group-A and group-B respectively. From the analysis of variance it was evident that live weight gain in sheep of group B, supplemented with urea molasses block lick was highly significant (p < 0.01). It was also estimated that group A required 8.12 kg DM to gain 1 kg live weight, whereas group B receiving urea molasses block lick required 5.30 kg DM to gain 1 kg live weight. Therefore, feeding rice straw with urea molasses block lick able to utilize more crop-residues efficiently.

        Behaviour of composite walls under monotonic and cyclic shear loading

        The novel form of composite walling system consists of two skins of profiled steel sheeting with an in-fill of concrete. Such walling system can be used as shear elements in steel framed building subjected to lateral load. This paper presents the results of small-scale model tests on composite wall and its components manufactured from very thin sheeting and micro-concrete tested under monotonic and cyclic shear loading conditions. The heavily instrumented small-scale tests provided information on the load-deformation response, strength, stiffness, strain condition, sheet-concrete interaction and failure modes. Analytical models for shear strength and stiffness are derived with some modification factor to take into account the effect of quasi-static cycling loading. The performance of design equations is validated through experimental results.

      • Effects of a matrix-coated organic acids and medium-chain fatty acids blend on performance, and in vitro fecal noxious gas emissions in growing pigs fed in-feed antibiotic-free diets

        <P> This study evaluated the efficacy of a matrix-coated organic acids and medium-chain fatty acids blend (MCOFA) in growing pigs. Ninety six pigs [(Yorkshire × Landrace) × Duroc] with an average body weight (BW) of 47.71 ± 3.73 kg were used in a 6 wk experiment. Pigs were allotted to diets containing 0 or 2 g kg<SUP>−1</SUP> of MCOFA, and 0 or 2.5 g kg<SUP>−1</SUP> of antibiotic growth promoters (AGP) according to a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments. Pigs fed diets supplemented with MCOFA had improved growth efficiency compared with those fed a diet without MCOFA (P @@<@@ 0.05). Pigs receiving the diets supplemented with both AGP and MCOFA had higher apparent total tract digestibility of crude protein, dry matter, fat, and gross energy (P @@<@@ 0.05). Pigs fed AGP × MCOFA diet had increased serum urea nitrogen (P @@<@@ 0.05). Pigs fed diets supplemented with AGP had reduced fecal ammonia (NH3) gas emissions compared with those fed without AGP (P @@<@@ 0.05). Moreover, pigs fed diets supplemented with MCOFA had reduced fecal NH3 and acetic acid gas emissions compared with those fed without MCOFA (P @@<@@ 0.05). In conclusion, dietary supplementation with MCOFA improved performance in growing pigs. </P>

        Reproductive performance comparison between local and crossbred sows reared under backyard and farming condition in Rangamati district of Bangladesh

        It is imperious to know the reproductive parameters of the subsisting swine breed for profitable farming in Bangladesh. This study was designed to compare the reproductive parameters of sows at hilly areas between the local and crossbred at farm and backyard level. A total of 116 breedable sows were included. The data on age at puberty, litter size, birth weight, weaning weight, gestation length, interval between farrowing and number of piglets born per sow in local and crossbred sows were determined and direct questionnaire method was used for data collection. The present study revealed that age at puberty between farm and backyard system of crossbred sows was $8.88{\pm}0.153$ and $9.85{\pm}0.221$ months, respectively. The farrowing interval was shorter in crossbred sows which were kept in farming system rather than backyard system. The interval between farrowing and onset of estrus was shorter in crossbred sows. The gestation length was almost similar between backyard and farm condition. The number of litter size per sow per farrowing was $8.45{\pm}0.41$ in crossbred and $7.17{\pm}0.250$ in local pigs at backyard system. The birth weight and weaning weight were more in farm conditions than backyard system. The age at puberty in local breed was lower than the crossbred and litter size was $8.45{\pm}0.407$ in crossbred which was higher than local breed $7.17{\pm}0.250$ in backyard system. These results suggest that reproductive parameters of local sow need to be improved for better production and crossbred sows should be reared for obtaining desired productivity.
