Abstract In this paper, I attempt to compare English love metaphor LOVE IS A JOURNEY to Korean love metaphor LOVE IS A PLANT. From this comparison, I want validate Lakoff's metaphor theory. If Lakoff's theory is correct, we can expect that the difference of Korean and English love metaphor reveal the cultural difference of Korea and America. The conclusion is affirmative on this aspect.

AbstractIn this paper, I examined the list of Korean grammatical suffixes attached to NP. In the three major Korean grammar, i.e. Choi(1971), Huh(1995), Kim(1996), the lists are different from each other. I examined their lists according to three criteria.. The first criterion is whether they know inflection. Suffixes must be non-inflectional. The second is the distribution of candidate form. Korean grammatical suffixes generally have wide distribution. If a candidate shows restricted distribution, it must belong to a derivational suffix. The third criterion is for the grammaticalized form from copula, 'ida', If a candidate form has the predicative power, it is still copula. If it lost power at all, it is a grammatical suffix. The result of this examination is that some forms are ascertained to be grammatical suffixes, and some are excluded. In this paper, I examined the list of Korean grammatical suffixes attached to NP. The influence of diabetes mellitus on periodontal tissues: a pilot study

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to preliminarily evaluate the influence of diabetes mellitus (DM) on periodontal tissue without establishment of periodontitis. Methods: Seven-week-old db/db mice were used for the diabetic experimental group and systematically healthy mice of the same age were used as controls. After 1 week of acclimatization, the animals were sacrificed for hard and soft tissue evaluation. The pattern of bone destruction was evaluated by stereomicroscope evaluation with alizarin red staining and radiographic evaluation by microscopic computerized tomography images. Histological evaluation was performed with hematoxylin and eosin stain for evaluation of soft tissue changes. Results: In both stereomicroscope evaluation and radiograph image analysis, aggressive form of bone destruction was observed in diabetic animals when compared to the systematically healthy controls. In histological evaluation, apical migration of junctional epithelium with slight inflammatory cell infiltration was observed with disarrangement of connective tissue fibers. Conclusions: Within the limits of this study, diabetic animals presented distortion in periodontal attachment and an aggressive bone loss pattern when compared to the healthy controls, suggesting that DM has an independent effect on periodontal tissue destruction irrespective of the presence or absence of periodontal disease.
공간 네트워크상의 이동객체를 위한 궤적기반 색인구조의 설계 및 구현

대부분의 이동객체들은 공간 네트워크상을 움직이기 때문에, 그들의 궤적을 효과적으로 색인검색할 수 있는 궤적 기반 색인 구조가 필요하다. 하지만 도로와 같은 공간 네트워크상의 궤적 기반 색인구조에 대한 연구는 FNR-트리나 MON-트리와 같은 연구가 진행되었을 뿐 연구가 많이 진행되어 있지 않다. 하지만, FNR-트리나 MON-트리 또한 이동객체의 세그먼트만을 저장할 뿐 전체 궤적을 유지하지 못하여, 궤적 질의에 대해 비효율적이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 공간 네트워크상의 이동객체를 위한 궤적기반 색인 구조인 TMN -Tree(Trajectory of Moving objects on Network-Tree)를 제안한다. 이를 위해, 이동객체를 공간과 시간 특성으로 분류하고, 궤적을 유지함으로써 영역질의와 궤적질의를 동시에 처리 할 수 있는 색인 구조를 설계한다. 아울러, 사용자 질의를 시공간영역 내 궤적 질의, 시간영역 내 유사궤적 질의, k-최근접 질의로 분류하고, 이들을 처리하기 위한 질의 처리 알고리즘을 제안한다. 마지막으로 본 논문에서 제안한 궤적 기반 색인 구조가 기존의 색인구조인 FNR-Tree, MON-Tree보다 성능이 향상되었음을 보여준다. Because moving objects usually move on spatial networks, efficient trajectory index structures are required to achieve good retrieval performance on their trajectories. However, there has been little research on trajectory index structures for spatial networks such as FNR-tree and MON-tree. But, because FNR-tree and MON-tree are stored by the unit of the moving object's segment, they can't support the whole moving objects' trajectory. In this paper, we propose an efficient trajectory index structure, named Trajectory of Moving objects on Network Tree(TMNTree), for moving objects. For this, we divide moving object data into spatial and temporal attribute, and preserve moving objects' trajectory. Then, we design index structure which supports not only range query but trajectory query. In addition, we divide user queries into spatio-temporal area based trajectory query, similar-trajectory query, and k-nearest neighbor query. We propose query processing algorithms to support them. Finally, we show that our trajectory index structure outperforms existing tree structures like FNR-Tree and MON-Tree.
한약박에서 재배한 느타리버섯의 성장 및 저장 중 품질 특성의 비교

일반적으로 폐기 처분하거나 비료로 재활용하는 한약을 추출하고 남는 한약박을 발효하여 영양분으로 첨가하는 팰릿 대신 폐면과 섞어 균상배지로 사용하여 느타리버섯을 재배할 때 수확량과 저장성에 대한 연구를 하였다. 또한, 한약박은 불특정 한약재들이 섞여 있으므로 이로 인해 문제가 나타날 수도 있으므로 한약박의 성분이 느타리버섯으로 전이되는지 여부를 조사하였다. 한약박 70%나 100%에서 느타리버섯을 재배할 때 질병이 생겨 고사되는 버섯의 수도 적었고, 성장속도도 빨라서 수확량도 많았다. 폐면과 펠릿을 이용한 대조군과 한약박을 배지에서 재배한 처리군들의 HPLC chromatogram에 차이를 전혀 나타내지 않았고 지표물질로 사용한 glycyrrhizin이 전혀 검출되지 않았다. 즉, 한약박의 성분 자체가 그대로 전이되지는 않았고, 한약박에 함유된 성분을 영양소로 이용하여 버섯의 품질을 향상시켰다. 한약박을 70%나 100%를 사용한 배지에서 재배된 느타리버섯의 저장성이 향상되어 저장기간 동안 중량 감소가 가장 적었고, 갓과 자루의 경도의 저하도 가장 적었다. 그러나 외관의 품질을 나타내 주는 색도의 변화는 배지 종류에 영향이 적었다. 결론적으로 한약박을 70% 이상을 배지로 사용하였을 때 한약성분의 직접적인 전이는 없어서 버섯의 상품성을 저하시키지 않았으며 성장률이 빠르며 수확률도 많았고, 조직이 치밀하여 저장성도 향상시켰다. 그러므로 한약박을 느타리버섯뿐만 아니라 여러 종류의 버섯 재배에 활용하는 것이 필요하겠다. This study was conducted to determine whether Pleurotus ostreatus (oyster mushroom), cultivated in various ratios with herbal extract remnants instead of cotton supplemented with nutrients (the control), improved mycelial growth, mushroom yields and longevity during storage. In addition, we investigated the transfer of medicinal herb components into the mushrooms since they contained non-specific medicinal herbs and their composition could not be controlled. Mushrooms cultivated with 70% and 100% medicinal herb remnants had faster growth rates, higher yields and less failure in the development of the fruit body than the control group. There were no differences in HPLC chromatogram among the methanol extracts of Pleurotus ostreatus in all groups. In addition, glycyrrhizin, an indicative compound of licorice which was a major herb among the herbal remnants, was not detected in any of the extracts. Pleurotus ostreatus that was cultivated with 70% and 100% herbal extract remnants had improved storage longevity in comparison with the control. They exhibited the least weight loss during storage among the groups and they maintained firmness in the stipe and pileus. However, the sources of media did not alter the color difference of the stipe and pileus or the quality index of the outward appearance during storage. In conclusion, cultivating media that contained over 70% of medicinal herb extract remnants increased the growth rates and yields of Pleurotus ostreatus. In addition, these mushrooms had enhanced storage longevity due to their firmness. Therefore, medicinal herb extract remnants should be utilized in the cultivating media of various mushrooms.
