Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different degrees of maternal dietary energy restriction on lipid deposition in embryonic tissues during the medium laying period (37 to 39 weeks) in Arbor Acres (AA) broiler breeders. Methods: A single factor design was adopted, and 400 AA broiler breeders (20 weeks of age) with a similar weight were randomly allocated into four groups. The birds in the control group were fed a corn-soybean meal based diet, and those in trial groups were fed diets with 80%, 70%, and 50% energy levels of the basal diet. Incubated eggs from the medium laying period were collected. Samples of developing embryos at various stages were prepared for composition analysis. Results: The embryo weight in the 80% energy group was higher than those of the other groups on embryonic day (E) 13, but at 21 E, they were significantly decreased with decreasing energy intake of the broiler breeders (p<0.05). Additionally, the levels of crude fat in tissues in the restriction groups were significantly decreased (p<0.05). The long axis and area of adipocytes in breast muscle, thigh muscle and the liver were significantly decreased (p<0.05) at 21 E in the 80%, 70%, and 50% energy groups. Conclusion: The effects of the 80% maternal dietary energy restriction energy affects egg production performance, egg quality, and nutrient deposition in egg weights, which then directly impacts on the developmental process of embryos, especially on fat utilization and deposition.

MJM1968, an actinomycete showing potent antifungal activity, was isolated and identified by 16S rDNA sequence analysis as Streptomyces malaysiensis. MJM1968 showed strong antifungal activity on phytopathogenic fungi such as Fusarium oxysporum, Rhizoctonia solani, Cladosporium cladosporioides, Fusarium chlamydosporum, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides KACC 40693, Alternaria mali KACC 40026, and Pestalotia spp. KACC 40501, in vitro. An antifungal compound was isolated from culture filtrate of strain MJM1968 by a series of chromatographic methods. Treatment of agricultural soil with strain MJM1968 mycelia reduced the native fungal population by more than 60% after 14 days. Treatment of soil with 10 mg/mL partially purified extract lowered native fungal density by more than 80% after 14 days. The compound, which exhibited antifungal activity in a broad range of pH and temperature, was identified as azalomycin F complex by $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMRs. This is the first report on the isolation of azalomycin F complex from S. malaysiensis, demonstrating a broad-spectrum suppression of fungal pathogens in agricultural soil.

A Novel Text Sample Selection Model for Scene Text Detection via Bootstrap Learning

Text detection has been a popular research topic in the field of computer vision. It is difficult for prevalent text detection algorithms to avoid the dependence on datasets. To overcome this problem, we proposed a novel unsupervised text detection algorithm inspired by bootstrap learning. Firstly, the text candidate in a novel form of superpixel is proposed to improve the text recall rate by image segmentation. Secondly, we propose a unique text sample selection model (TSSM) to extract text samples from the current image and eliminate database dependency. Specifically, to improve the precision of samples, we combine maximally stable extremal regions (MSERs) and the saliency map to generate sample reference maps with a double threshold scheme. Finally, a multiple kernel boosting method is developed to generate a strong text classifier by combining multiple single kernel SVMs based on the samples selected from TSSM. Experimental results on standard datasets demonstrate that our text detection method is robust to complex backgrounds and multilingual text and shows stable performance on different standard datasets.

The intersection of pedestrian flows is a general phenomenon in daily pedestrian traffic and emergency evacuation. However, lacking of effective controls in crowed areas will result in pedestrian deceleration, stopping, and even threats to safety in evacuation. This paper focused on exploring the influence of different intersecting angles on evacuation efficiency of pedestrian flows in high volume. Through establishing a bidirectional pedestrian flow model with different intersecting angles for a busy metro station in China based on the social force model, two factors, namely the impact between pedestrians and the conflict frequency, were firstly proposed and validated as that playing major roles in influencing the evacuation efficiency during the pedestrian intersection. With the case study, it is found that the best intersecting angle is 120 degree and angles between 40 and 80 degree are unfavorable in optimizing the average crowd speed and the crowd density. The results are verified based on the comparative analysis with some existing experimental results. The outcomes of this work can offer some guidelines to control the intersection of pedestrian flows during evacuation and can make contributions to a proposal for the related, optimized design of a structure to increasing the evacuation efficiency of a dense crowd.

Segmentation plays an important role in the field of image processing and computer vision. Intuitionistic fuzzy C-means (IFCM) clustering algorithm emerged as an effective technique for image segmentation in recent years. However, standard fuzzy C-means (FCM) and IFCM algorithms are sensitive to noise and initial cluster centers, and they ignore the spatial relationship of pixels. In view of these shortcomings, an improved algorithm based on IFCM is proposed in this paper. Firstly, we propose a modified non-membership function to generate intuitionistic fuzzy set and a method of determining initial clustering centers based on grayscale features, they highlight the effect of uncertainty in intuitionistic fuzzy set and improve the robustness to noise. Secondly, an improved nonlinear kernel function is proposed to map data into kernel space to measure the distance between data and the cluster centers more accurately. Thirdly, the local spatial-gray information measure is introduced, which considers membership degree, gray features and spatial position information at the same time. Finally, we propose a new measure of intuitionistic fuzzy entropy, it takes into account fuzziness and intuition of intuitionistic fuzzy set. The experimental results show that compared with other IFCM based algorithms, the proposed algorithm has better segmentation and clustering performance.

Nitrogen-doped short tubular carbons (N-STCs) with big inner diameter have been successfully synthesized via carbonization of polydopamine (PDA) wrapped halloysite nanotubes (HNTs). The obtained N-STCs have average length of 0.3 μm with big inner diameter (50 nm), thin wall (2-3 nm) and large surface area (776 m2 g−1), and show excellent electrochemical properties. As an example in electrochemical applications, N-STCs were used to electrochemically detect hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and glucose. The results showed that the N-STCs modified glassy carbon (N-STCs/GC) electrode had much better analytical performance (lower detection limit and wider linear range) compared to the acid-treated carbon nanotubes (AO-CNTs) based GC electrode. The unique structure endows N-STCs the enhanced electrochemical performance and promising applications in electrochemical sensing.

<P>Here, we describe an in situ approach for growing polyepoxides from the surfaces of graphene oxide (GO) using a surface-initiated polymerization reaction. The polymerization methodology is facile and general as a broad range of epoxides carrying various functional groups have been successfully polymerized by simply adding GO powders in the epoxide monomers. The resultant polyepoxide grafted GO are found to show enhanced dispersibility in various common solvents and to exhibit increased d-spacing between the basal planes. In particular, grafting poly(2,3-epoxy-1-propanol) (PEP) to GO results in a composite (i.e., GO-g-PEP) that is dispersible in water and miscible with polyether block amide, i.e., Pebax MH 1657. Preliminary studies have indicated the membranes prepared using Pebax/GO-g-PEP composites exhibit enhanced CO2 permeabilities and selectivities in comparison to H-2, O-2, or N-2. The excellent performance in gas separation is attributed to the layered structure of the GO-g-PEP sheets with enlarged d-spacing and the functional groups present on the PEP chains grafted to the surfaces of GO sheets.</P>
