        Yield, Nutritional Content, and Antioxidant Activity of Pleurotus ostreatus on Corncobs Supplemented with Herb Residues

        Improper disposal of herb residues in China has caused severe problems to the surrounding environment and human safety. Three herb residues, i.e., compound Kushen injection residues (CKI) and part one and part two of Qizhitongluo Capsule residues (QC1 and QC2, respectively), were used for the cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus. The effect of the supplementation of corncobs (CC) with different herb residues on yield, nutritional composition, and antioxidant activity of P. ostreatus was investigated. Compared to the control, the higher mycelial growth rate was observed on substrates CC +30% CKI and CC +30% QC1, while the higher yield was obtained from substrates CC +30% QC2 and CC +30% CKI. Moreover, chemical analysis of fruit bodies revealed that the addition of herb residues to CC significantly increased proteins, amino acids, ashes, minerals (Na and Ca), and total phenolic contents but significantly reduced carbohydrates and IC50 values of DPPH radicals. In addition, no heavy metals (Pb, Cd, and As) were detected in the fruiting bodies harvested from different substrate combinations. These results demonstrated that mixtures of CC with herb residues might be utilized as a novel, practical, and easily available substrate for the cultivation of P. ostreatus, which is beneficial for the effective management of herb residues.

        MODELLING, ANALYSIS AND SIMULATION OF A NOVEL AUTOMATED MANUAL TRANSMISSION WITH GEARSHIFT ASSISTANT MECHANISM

        To eliminate or reduce torque interruption and driveline jerk for traditional automated manual transmission (AMT), AMT with a gearshift assistant mechanism (GAM) is originally proposed in this paper. The GAM consists of a torque complementary motor and an epicyclic mechanism with a synchronizing clutch. During gear upshift, the electrical motor provides complementary torque to primary (output) shaft after synchronizer discharges, then the synchronizing clutch will work to synchronize primary shaft with anticipated gear. The lockup of the synchronizing clutch will ensure the synchronization of primary shaft and anticipated gear. After finishing synchronizing, synchronizer will lock up the anticipated gear and engine recovers torque supply to finish gearshift. Based on the mathematical model of the proposed transmission, its detailed structure, kinematic character and dynamic behavior are discussed. Controllers are designed to achieve presumed gearshift performance, and simulation results show its effectiveness. Problems may be encountered in engineering application and possible application on electrical vehicle (EV) of the proposed transmission are also discussed. Finally, this paper summarized the merits and further research targets of the proposed transmission, which is a promising structure to achieve swift and smooth gearshift.

        Forgotten Permission Usages: An Empirical Study on App Description Based Android App Analysis

        본 논문에서는 안드로이드 앱 설명이 애플리케이션 품질 측정에 충분한 권한 사용을 제공하는지에 대해 연구하였다. 안드로이드 애플리케이션 설명은 품질측정, 기능추천(functionality recommendation), 말웨어감지와 같은 다양한 목적으로 분석된다. 그러나 많은 앱들이 설명에서 실수 혹은 고의로 권한 사용을 공개하지 않는다. 이전 연구에서는 가장 중요한 것은 애플리케이션 설명에서 권한 사용에 대한 내용이 없거나 부족하면 애플리케이션 설명을 정확하게 분석할 수 없었다. 권한과 앱 설명 간의 일관성을 평가하기 위해 29,270개의 애플리케이션 설명에 대한 안드로이드 권한을 예측하는 방법을 구현했다. 결과로 앱 설명의 25%는 권한에 대한 의미를 포함하지 않았으며 앱 설명의 57%는 권한 사용에 대한 내용을 정확하게 반영 할 수 없다. In this paper, we conducted an empirical study to investigate whether Android app descriptions provide enough permission usages for measuring app quality in terms of human writing and consistency between code and descriptions. Android app descriptions are analyzed for various purposes such as quality measurement, functionality recommendation, and malware detection. However, many app descriptions do not disclose permission usages, whether accidentally or on purpose. Most importantly, the previous studies could not precisely analyze app descriptions if permission usages cannot be completely introduced in app descriptions. To assess the consistency between permissions and app descriptions, we implemented a state-of-the-art method to predict Android permissions for 29,270 app descriptions. As a result, 25% of app descriptions may not contain any permission semantic, and 57% of app descriptions cannot accurately reflect permission usages.

        An Empirical Study on the Impact of Permission Smell in Android Applications

        본 논문에서는 개발자가 작성한 코드와 써드파티 라이브러리로 인해 발생하는 Permission Smell을 탐지하여 그 영향에 대해 다각적으로 분석했다. 이를 위해서 실제 구글 플레이 스토어에 존재하는 Android 앱로 구성된 대규모 데이터셋을 활용하여 존재하는 Permission Smell의 영향을 조사 및 분석하는 실증적 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과에 따르면 대다수의 안드로이드 앱에 Permission Smell이 존재하며 특히 써드파티 라이브러리는 개발자가 사용하지 않는 기능에 대해서도 권한을 요구하므로 이러한 Smell 들을 더 많이 발생시킨다. 또한, 대다수의 개발자는 써드파티 라이브러리로 인해 선언된 불필요한 권한을 올바르게 비활성화하지 않는다는 것을 파악하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 본 논문에서는 Permission Smell이 사용자 경험에 미치는 영향에 대해 논의한다. 결과적으로 불필요한 권한을 요구하는 앱이더라도 다운로드 횟수에 영향을 주지는 않았다. 그러나 불필요한 권한을 요구하는 앱들은 사용자들로부터 더 낮은 평가를 받았다. In this paper, we proposed a sniffer to detect permission smells from developer and third-party libraries’ code. Moreover, we conducted an empirical study to investigate unnecessary permissions on large real-world Android apps. Our analysis indicates that permission smell extensively exists in Android apps. According to the results, permission smells exist in most Android apps. In particular, third-party libraries request permission for functionalities that are not used by developers, which cause more smells. Moreover, most developers do not properly disable unnecessary permissions that are declared for third-party libraries. We discussed the impacts of permission smells on user experiences. As a result, the existence of permission smell does not impact the number of downloads. However, apps that have more unnecessary permissions have received lower ratings from users.

        Expression of genes related to lipid transport in meat-type ducks divergent for low or high residual feed intake

        Objective: This study examined the effects of divergence in residual feed intake (RFI) on expression profiles of key genes related to lipid transport in the liver and duodenal epithelium and their associations with feed efficiency traits in meat-type ducks. Methods: A total of 1,000 male ducks with similar body weight (1,042.1±87.2 g) were used in this study, and their individual RFI was calculated from 21 to 42 d of age. Finally, the 10 highest RFI (HRFI) and 10 lowest RFI (LRFI) ducks were chosen for examining the expression of key genes related to lipid transport in the liver and duodenal epithelium using quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results: In the liver, expression levels of albumin (ALB), CD36 molecule (CD36), fatty acid hydroxylase domain containing 2 (FAXDC2), and choline kinase alpha (CHKA) were significantly higher in LRFI ducks than in HRFI ducks (p<0.01); negative correlations (p<0.05) between expression levels of ALB, CD36, FAXDC2, and CHKA and RFI were detected in the liver. Additionally, ALB expression was strongly positively correlated (p<0.05) with CD36, FAXDC2, CHKA, and apolipoprotein H (APOH) expression in the liver. In duodenal epithelium, we found that mRNA levels of ALB, CD36, FAXDC2, and APOH were significantly higher in LRFI ducks than in HRFI ducks (p<0.01); RFI was strongly negatively correlated (p<0.05) with ALB, FAXDC2, and APOH expression, while ALB expression was strongly positively correlated with APOH expression (p<0.01) in duodenal epithelium. Furthermore, expression levels of both ALB and FAXDC2 genes were significantly associated with feed conversion ratio and RFI in both liver and duodenal epithelium (p<0.05). Conclusion: Our findings therefore suggest that ALB and FAXDC2 genes might be used as potential gene markers designed to improve feed efficiency in future meat-type duck breeding programs.

        Multiple frequency vibration of the micro lubricating gap geometry between cylinder block and valve plate in an axial piston pump

        Refined models of the forces in the cylinder block/valve plate system along Z axis and the moments around X and Y axes were built, considering the pressure ripple due to the piston reciprocating motions (PRM) and pressure variations in the wedge film (PVF) and the chambers (PVC) caused by the silencing slots. The multi-frequency vibration models of the gap geometry owing to the forces and moments are proposed. The dynamic mechanical balance equations are presented. The frequency spectra of the test gap thickness show the vibration amplitudes at the first three frequencies are larger than those of the other frequencies. PVF and PVC have obvious influences on the gap at the second frequency, and PRM exerts an impact at the third. The moment fluctuations around X and Y axes, bending stiffness of the shaft, and the rough surfaces contact could affect the vibration amplitude of the wedge gap geometry.
