        Examining the Economic Effects of Logistics Infrastructure: The Case of New Western Land-Sea Corridor in China

        Purpose: To examine the economic effects of logistics under the influence of policies. Research design, data and methodology: This study is the first to use the panel data of 31 provinces and municipalities in China from 2012 to 2021, and use the OLS and DID models to evaluate whether the New Western Land-Sea Corridor (NWLSC) has promoted the economic development of the regions along the corridor. Results: The NWLSC has stimulated local economic growth by promoting the development of transportation, postal, and telecommunications industries along the corridor. Further, considering the locational differences of the regions along the NWLSC, we examined the differences in economic effects between regions along the Yangtze River and those not along the Yangtze River under the background of NWLSC implementation. We found that waterway and airway transport located along the NWLSC and in the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) region can significantly promote economic growth. However, for regions located along the NWLSC but not in the YREB region, the impact of roadway, railway, and airway transport in these regions on economic growth is more significant. Conclusions: This study has important reference value on how to use logistics to promote the economic and cross-border commerce development of landlocked countries or regions.

        An endophytic Coniochaeta velutina producing broad spectrum antimycotics

        An endophyte (PC27-5) was isolated from stem tissue of Western hemlock (Tsuga heterophylla) in a Pacific Northwest temperate rainforest. Phylogenetic analyses, based on ITS- 5.8S rDNA and 18S rDNA sequence data, combined with cultural and morphological analysis showed that endophyte PC27-5 exhibited all characteristics of a fungus identical to Coniochaeta velutina. Furthermore, wide spectrum antimycotics were produced by this endophyte that were active against such plant pathogens as Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, Pythium ultimum, and Verticillium dahliae and lethal to Phythophthora cinnamomi, Pythium ultimum, and Phytophthora palmivora in plate tests. The bioactive components were purified through organic solvent extraction, followed by silica column chromatography, and finally preparative HPLC. The minimum inhibitory concentration of the active fraction to Pythium ultimum, which was gained from preparative HPLC, was 11 μg/ml. UPLC-HRMS analysis showed there were two similar components in the antimycotic fraction. Their molecular formulae were established as C30H22O11 (compound I) and C30H22O10 (compound II) respectively, and preliminary spectral results indicate that they are anthroquinone glycosides. Other non – biologically active compounds were identified in culture fluids of this fungus by spectral means as emodin and chrysophanol - anthroquinone derivatives. This is the first report that Coniochaeta velutina as an endophyte produces bioactive antifungal components.

        중국소비자의 자국중심주의가 한국화장품 태도에 미치는 영향:

        소비자 자국중심주의에 관한 선행연구들에서는 소비자 자국중심주의가 외국제품 태도에 미치는 영향이 제품유형과 제품국적에 따라 상이하게 나타나고 있지만, 화장품범주에 관한 연구와 한국산 화장품에 대한 소비자 자국중심주의의 영향에 관한 연구는 아직까지 찾아보기 어려운 실정이다. 또한, 소비자 자국중심주의가 외국제품 평가, 태도, 구매의도 등에 미치는 영향에 대해서도 상충된 결과들이 나타남으로써 매개변수나 조절변수를 파악하는 연구들이 수행되어 왔지만, 아직까지 제품전형성을 매개변수나 조절변수로 도입한 연구도 찾아보기가 어렵다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 중국소비자들을 대상으로 그들의 자국중심주의가 한국화장품에 대한 태도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보고, 이러한 영향관계에서 한국화장품 전형성 지각이 어떠한 매개역할을 하는지 파악하고자 하였다. 즉, 중국소비자의 자국중심주의가 한국화장품 태도에 부정적인 영향력을 미치는 경우, 한국화장품 전형성을 지각했을 때만 가능한지를 파악해 보고자하였다. 연구결과로는 첫째, 중국소비자의 자국중심주의가 한국화장품 태도에 부정적 영향을 미치되, 직접적으로 영향을 미치지 않고 한국화장품 전형성 지각을 통해서 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타남으로써 한국화장품 전형성의 완전매개효과와 중요성을 발견하였다. 중국소비자의 자국중심주의를 한국화장품 기업이 변화시키기는 어렵지만, 한국화장품 전형성 지각은 품질향상과 마케팅 노력으로 변화가 가능하기 때문에 한국화장품 전형성을 증가시킨다면 중국소비자의 자국중심주의로 인한 부정적 영향을 감소시킬 수 있을 것이다. 둘째, 중국소비자의 자국중심주의가 한국화장품 전형성 지각에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 중국소비자의 한국화장품 전형성 지각은 한국화장품 태도에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과에 대한 시사점과 향후 연구과제를 제시하였다.。 In the previous research on consumer ethnocentrism, the effects of consumer ethnocentrism on attitude toward foreign products were different depending on product category and nationality. However, it is difficult to find a study on the effects of consumer ethnocentrism in regard to cosmetics category and Korean cosmetics. In addition, many studies are performed on mediating and moderating variables for the relationships between consumer ethnocentrism and the evaluation, attitude or purchase intention of foreign products. But there is no research including product typicality as a mediating or moderating variable. Based on the above literature review, this study intends to explore the effect of Chinese consumers’ ethnocentrism on the attitude toward Korean cosmetics and the mediating role of Korean cosmetics typicality. That is, if Chinese consumers’ ethnocentrism has a negative effect on the attitude toward Korean cosmetics, this study has a purpose to find out whether Korean cosmetics typicality can decrease the negative effect. The results are as follows. Firstly, Chinese consumers’ ethnocentrism has a negative effect on the attitude toward Korean cosmetics by the complete mediation of Korean cosmetics typicality. Although Korean cosmetics companies cannot change Chinese consumers’ ethnocentrism, the perception of Korean cosmetics typicality can be changed by the improvement of product quality or marketing efforts of the companies. Thus, if Korean cosmetics typicality will be increased, the negative effect of Chinese consumers’ ethnocentrism can be decreased. Secondly, Chinese consumers’ ethnocentrism has a negative effect on Korean cosmetics typicality. Thirdly, Korean cosmetics typicality has a positive effect on the attitude toward Korean cosmetics. Finally, implications of the results and further research are suggested.

      • Expression of ERCC1, MSH2 and PARP1 in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer and Prognostic Value in Patients Treated with Platinum-based Chemotherapy

        Purpose: To evaluate the prognostic value of the expression of excision repair cross-complementation group l (ERCC1), MutS protein homolog 2 (MSH2) and poly ADP-ribose polymerase 1 (PARP1) in non-small-cell lung cancer patients receiving platinum-based postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was applied to detect the expression of ERCC1, MSH2 and PARP1 in 111 cases of non-small cell lung cancer paraffin embedded surgical specimens. Through og-rank survival analysis, we evaluated the prognostic value of the ERCC1, MSH2, PARP1 and the related clinicopathological factors. COX regression analysis was used to determine whether ERCC1, MSH2 and PARP1 were independent prognostic factors. Results: In the enrolled 111 non-small cell lung cancer patients, the positive expression rate of ERCC1, MSH2 and RARP1 was 33.3%, 36.9% and 55.9%, respectively. ERCC1 (P<0.001) and PARP1 (P=0.033) were found to be correlated with the survival time while there was no correlation for MSH2 (P=0.298). Patients with both ERCC1 and PARP1 negative cancer had significantly longer survival time than those with ERCC1 (P=0.042) or PARP1 (P=0.027) positive alone. Similalry, the survival time of patients with both ERCC1 and PARP1 positive cancer was shorter than those with ERCC1 (P=0.048) or PARP1 (P=0.01) positive alone. Conclusion: Patients with ERCC1 or PARP1 negative non-small cell lung cancer appear to benefit from platinum-based postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy.

      • Involvement of EBV-encoded BART-miRNAs and Dysregulated Cellular miRNAs in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Genesis

        The definite molecular mechanisms underlying the genesis of nasopharyngeal carcinomas (NPCs) remain to be completely elucidated. miRNAs are small non-coding RNAs which are implicated in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and even carcinogenesis through negatively regulating gene expression post-transcriptionally. EBV was the first human virus found to express miRNAs. EBV-encoded BART-miRNAs and dysregulated cellular miRNAs are involved in carcinogenesis of NPC by interfering in the expression of viral and host cell genes related to immune responses and perturbing signal pathways of proliferation, apoptosis, invasion, metastasis and even radio-chemo-therapy sensitivity. Additional studies on the roles of EBV-encoded miRNAs and cellular miRNAs will provide new insights concerning the complicated gene regulated network and shed light on novel strategies for the diagnosis, therapy and prognosis of NPC.

      • A Secret Sharing Scheme Based on AES

        In order to solve the key setting difficulty and the key security problem in the file encryption, key distributed storage technology may be a proper choice to help improve the safety of the key. In the paper, a novel secret sharing scheme is proposed by AES encryption algorithm for file confidentiality, dynamic key generation mechanism to generate keys, multi-secret-sharing ideas on key pre-treatment, using Shamir threshold scheme for secret dispersed storage. Finally, a few tests are carried out and the test results suggest that the efficiency of the whole scheme is good.

      • Saturated Throughput Analysis of Enhanced Distributed Channel Access Mechanism for Supporting Multimedia Services

        Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA) mechanism is used in WLAN to support QoS for various multimedia service flows. IEEE 802.11e EDCA introduces some new QoS parameters based on DCF. How to adjust these parameters is a significant problem. In the paper, we present a novel saturated throughput analysis of the IEEE 802.11e EDCA. This approach involves a novel analytical model that is an extension to previous works, which provide Markov chain analysis to IEEE 802.11e EDCA. Throughput analysis of our model is evaluated by comparison with NS2 simulations. We found the model is correct and suitable for both basic access and request-to-send/clear-to-send (RTS/CTS) access mechanisms.

      • Involvement of Cdc25c in Cell Cycle Alteration of a Radioresistant Lung Cancer Cell Line Established with Fractionated Ionizing Radiation

        Cancer patients often suffer from local tumor recurrence after radiation therapy. Cell cycling, an intricate sequence of events which guarantees high genomic fidelity, has been suggested to affect DNA damage responses and eventual radioresistant characteristics of cancer cells. Here, we established a radioresistant lung cancer cell line, A549R, by exposing the parental A549 cells to repeated ${\gamma}$-ray irradiation with a total dose of 60 Gy. The radiosensitivity of A549 and A549R was confirmed using colony formation assays. We then focused on examination of the cell cycle distribution between A549 and A549R and found that the proportion of cells in the radioresistant S phase increased, whereas that in the radiosensitive G1 phase decreased. When A549 and A549R cells were exposed to 4 Gy irradiation the total differences in cell cycle redistribution suggested that G2-M cell cycle arrest plays a predominant role in mediating radioresistance. In order to further explore the possible mechanisms behind the cell cycle related radioresistance, we examined the expression of Cdc25 proteins which orchestrate cell cycle transitions. The results showed that expression of Cdc25c increased accompanied by the decrease of Cdc25a and we proposed that the quantity of Cdc25c, rather than activated Cdc25c or Cdc25a, determines the radioresistance of cells.
