Acquired Localized Hypertrichosis Induced by Internal Fixation and Plaster Cast Application
Hui-Jun Ma,Yang Yang,Hui-Yong Ma,Chi-Yu Jia,Ting-Hui Li 대한피부과학회 2013 Annals of Dermatology Vol.25 No.3
Hypertrichosis refers to increased vellus hair growth and is independent to androgen excess. The acquired localized hypertrichosis (ALH) is one of the typical hypertrichosis, which mainly results from chronic irritation, inflammation, friction, and occlusion by plaster of Paris. Here, we report a young boy who had ALH on his right hand following a closed fracture with internal fixation and plaster cast application. The case is unusual because the hairy area is limited to the operative region of internal fixation. We suggest that the local vascular changes and skin inflammation induced by internal fixation and plaster cast application may be associated with ALH.
A Parallel Method of Deep Packet Inspection based on Message-Passing Interface
Jia-xing Qu,Guo-yin Zhang,Xi-zhong Wang,Jia-hui Liu,Da-hua Song 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Security and Its Applicat Vol.9 No.12
With the increasing number of cores in multicore processors, it is challenging task how to take advantage of powerful parallel computing for the deep packet inspection. This paper introduces the deep packet inspection with a parallel method which exploits the message-passing interface (MPI). The parallel procedure includes the master thread and the slave thread. The master assigns the data packet to the slave. The slave executes the string matching with rules for inspecting. Both the master and the slave communicate by using MPI functions. The experimental results show that the parallel method is suitable for the trend of the increasing number of cores in multicore processors. Moreover, when the number of threads is equal to the number of cores in multicore processors, the performance arrives at the maximum throughput.
Particle Swarm Optimization based on Vector Gaussian Learning
( Jia Zhao ),( Li Lv ),( Hui Wang ),( Hui Sun ),( Runxiu Wu ),( Jugen Nie ),( Zhifeng Xie ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2017 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.11 No.4
Gaussian learning is a new technology in the computational intelligence area. However, this technology weakens the learning ability of a particle swarm and achieves a lack of diversity. Thus, this paper proposes a vector Gaussian learning strategy and presents an effective approach, named particle swarm optimization based on vector Gaussian learning. The experiments show that the algorithm is more close to the optimal solution and the better search efficiency after we use vector Gaussian learning strategy. The strategy adopts vector Gaussian learning to generate the Gaussian solution of a swarm`s optimal location, increases the learning ability of the swarm`s optimal location, and maintains the diversity of the swarm. The method divides the states into normal and premature states by analyzing the state threshold of the swarm. If the swarm is in the premature category, the algorithm adopts an inertia weight strategy that decreases linearly in addition to vector Gaussian learning; otherwise, it uses a fixed inertia weight strategy. Experiments are conducted on eight well-known benchmark functions to verify the performance of the new approach. The results demonstrate promising performance of the new method in terms of convergence velocity and precision, with an improved ability to escape from a local optimum.
Acupuncture in Post-Stroke Shoulder Pain Syndrome with Multiple Sclerosis: A Case Study
Jia Hui Gan,Lorenzo A. Santorelli 사단법인약침학회 2021 Journal of Acupuncture & Meridian Studies Vol.14 No.1
The present case study illustrates the case of a 47-year-old female (Ms X) with primary progressive Multiple Sclerosis (MS) who presented with central post-stroke pain (CPSP) over her left shoulder and underwent acupuncture treatment (AT) since she appeared irresponsive to conventional treatment. The aim of this case study is to explore the effectiveness of acupuncture as a complimentary treatment in improving central neurogenic pain in MS patients affected by CPSP. AT lasted six weeks, some modification of the conventional AT points was required to ensure continuity and safety of the treatment plan. In fact, Ms X suffered from gingivitis that led to hypersensitivity of her left upper limb (UL) to acupuncture needling; moreover, she experienced sensation loss in her legs as a result of post-stroke complications. The outcome showed that the subject’s shoulder range of motion (ROM), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) score and pain improved remarkably, enabling Ms X to resume post-stroke rehabilitation and reduce her analgesic intake.
Antimycobacterial Activity of Fusaric Acid from a Mangrove Endophyte and its Metal Complexes
Jia-Hui Pan,Yi Chen,Yu-Hong Huang,Yi-Wen Tao,Jun Wang,Yan Li,Yi Peng,Tao Dong,Xiao-Min Lai,Yong-Cheng Lin 대한약학회 2011 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.34 No.7
Due to the increasing prevalence of multidrug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, there is an urgent need for new antituberculosis drugs that have novel mechanisms of action. As part of our ongoing search for antimycobacterial metabolites from mangrove endophytes, chemical analysis of the active extract of a strain of Fusarium sp. was performed, which led to the isolation of fusaric acid as the predominant constituent. A variety of metal complexes of fusaric acid were prepared. Antimycobacterial assays showed that Cadmium (II) and Copper (II) complexes exhibited potent inhibitory activity against the M. bovis BCG strain [minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) = 4 μg/mL] and the M. tuberculosis H37Rv strain (MIC = 10 μg/mL), respectively. This is the first report of the antimycobacterial activity of the mangrove Fusarium metabolite and its coordinating metal complexes.
Jia, Wei-Juan,Jia, Hai-Xia,Feng, Hui-Yi,Yang, Ya-Ping,Chen, Kai,Su, Feng-Xi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.1
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the recurrence pattern and characteristics of patients based on the 2013 St. Gallen surrogate molecular subtypes after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) in Chinese women. Methods: This retrospective analysis included 709 consecutive breast cancer patients undergoing BCS from 1999-2010 at our institution. Five different surrogate subtypes were created using combined expression of the estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and human epidermal growth factor receptor-2. Locoregional relapse-free survival (LRRFS), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS), and disease-free survival (DFS) rates were calculated. Results: The 5-year LRRFS, DMFS, and DFS rates were 90.5%, 88.2%, and 81.5%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed that young age, node-positive disease, and HER2 enrichment were independent prognostic factors in LRRFS patients. There was also an independent prognostic role of lymph node-positive disease in DMFS and DFS patients. Patients with luminal A tumors had the most favorable prognosis, with LRRFS, DMFS, and DFS rates of 93.2%, 91.5%, and 87.4% at 5 years, respectively. Conversely, HER-2-enriched tumors exhibited the highest rate of locoregional recurrence (20.6%). Conclusion: Surrogate subtypes present with significant differences in RFS, DMFS, and LRRFS. Luminal A tumors have the best prognosis, whereas HER2-enriched tumors have the poorest.
Extract Segmentation Lines of 3D Model based on Regional Discrete Curvature
Hui Jia,Jiangang Zhang 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Signal Processing, Image Vol.9 No.1
The discrete curvature is sensitive to the noise and heavy computation of feature value. In order to extract the segmentation lines of 3D meshes, this paper presents a novel and efficient algorithm which is based on regional discrete curvature. Extract prominent feature points, pre-segmentation and then obtain the constraint region. Calculate the curvature degree extremal points within the constraint region, finally utilize the curvature degree extremal points to fit plane which guaid extracting the segmentation lines. This algorithm does not need to wipe off the noise at initial stage, the experiment results show that the proposed algorithm can accurately and frequently yield meaningful segmentation lines for models which has an evident branch structure.
