Purpose : This study examines the effect of vibration exercise grafting PNF patterns for 6 weeks on upper body stability and equilibrium for seniors having fifteen or over of MMSE-K. Method : A total of 10 senior citizens participated in this study. Each participant performed PNF patterned exercises using vibration sports equipment for 30 minutes, once static a week, for six weeks. We measured trunk stability and balance degree before and after the six-week exercise program. Motor Assessment Scale (MAS) was used to measure trunk stability, while Functional Reach Test (FRT) and Timed Up and Go (TUG) was used to measure balance degree. The collected data was processed using paired t-test to confirm the difference between pre-program conditions and post-program conditions. Results: The results of our study show that post-program trunk stability measurements increased when compared to pre-program data; however, this increase was not statistically significant. pre and post-measurements for satatic balance and dynamic balance were statistically unchanged. Conclusion: Due to limitations in the number of participants, the procedural design of this experiment, and the limited amount of time participants actually controlled, this study failed to produce statistically significant results. However, further study should be conducted using a systematically implemented exercise program to show support for exercising with flexi-bar as an effective program for the elderly.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to survey the visitation conditions in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and to evaluate parents’ anxiety and nurses’ attitude about the open visitation policy. Methods: One group pre-posttest design was used. After the approval of the institutional review board was obtained, 22 parents and 58 nurses in the NICU participated in the survey between January and February in 2014.The visitation conditions were the number of patients who had visitors in the NICU for a whole day, total visitation hours, mean visitation hours and total number of visitation in a day. Before and after the open visitations were applied, the anxiety level of the patients and attitudes of the nurses were measured. Results: After the open visitation, all visitation conditions significantly increased. Parents’ anxiety score also significantly decreased after experiencing the open visitation (p=.023). However, nurses’ attitude was not different (p=.851). Conclusion: The open visitation can relive parents’ anxiety in the NICU but still nurses have some conflicts for applying the open visitation. It is necessary to prepare environmental infrastructure and educate nurses and parents to activate the open visitation in the NICU.

<P>DNA methylation is a primary epigenetic modification regulating gene expression and chromatin structure in many eukaryotes. Plants have a unique DNA demethylation system in that 5-methylcytosine (5mC) is directly removed by DNA demethylases, such as DME/ROS1 family proteins, but little is known about the downstream events. During 5mC excision, DME produces 3′-phosphor-α, β-unsaturated aldehyde and 3′-phosphate by successive β- and δ-eliminations, respectively. The kinetic studies revealed that these 3′-blocking lesions persist for a significant amount of time and at least two different enzyme activities are required to immediately process them. We demonstrate that <I>Arabidopsis</I> AP endonucleases APE1L, APE2 and ARP have distinct functions to process such harmful lesions to allow nucleotide extension. <I>DME</I> expression is toxic to <I>E. coli</I> due to excessive 5mC excision, but expression of <I>APE1L</I> or <I>ARP</I> significantly reduces DME-induced cytotoxicity. Finally, we propose a model of base excision repair and DNA demethylation pathway unique to plants.</P>

This study examined difficulties middle school students have in learning mathematics and proposed a flipped classroom consisting of Khan Academy activities, small-group problem solving, and mathematical modeling to help improve their learning. A mixed-method approach was used to identify difficulties students have in learning mathematics, explore how the flipped classroom helped them reduce the learning difficulties identified, and examine if there were differences in students’ mathematics achievement and their affective characteristics after participating in the flipped classroom. Qualitative analyses showed that students had difficulties in understanding mathematical concepts and finding effective ways to learn as well as negative views towards learning mathematics. This study also found that each activity of the flipped classroom had a different impact on student learning. Before class, the Khan Academy activities were most likely to help students understand mathematical concepts. In class, small-group problem solving activities were most helpful for students who had trouble finding effective learning methods and environments. Mathematical modeling activities were most likely effective in changing students’ negative views towards mathematics. A quantitative analysis showed that the flipped classroom not only significantly improved the students’ mathematics achievement, but also positively affected their confidence and motivation and how much they valued learning mathematics.

The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics shown in observational record by analyzing the differences between learning concentration and observational results in students’ observation activities by individual and group. The study made 13 4th graders in elementary school observe three rocks including granite, basalt, and conglomerate, record the observational contents, and show the five things per rock about them by writing and figures. It analyzed learning concentration of the students while they observed the rocks and their observational types, their truth and validity, and use frequency and appropriateness of observational tools based on the observational records. First, students’ learning concentration in the observation activities by individual and group has found that the individual activities are higher than the group ones. The results of the precedent studies that learning by group is more positive than individual learning have been reported. However, there is increase in frequency of the behaviors of the students who concentrate on stimulation which has nothing to do with the observation activities or don’t follow teachers’ instruction in the process that they communicate with friends in groups when compared to the individual activities. Second, most students preferred the methods to record writing and figures together in the observation activities by individual and group. However, there were many students who had difficulties in utilizing observational figures effectively in the cases which show their observational contents by figures. Third, truth of observational writing in the observational activities by individual and group has found to be relatively high and truth of observational figures was shown to be low. Presentation of the observational viewpoint is required to make students record the partial characteristics rather than showing the general characteristics of rocks. Fourth, validity of the observational contents was analyzed to be low in the observational activities by individual and group. The observational contents collected by the students were quantitatively enough but were not qualitatively useful. Teachers should lead students to collect what information through observation. Fifth, there was the low rate that the students select proper tools in observation of rocks in the observation activities by individual and group. The students have found to have difficulties in use proper tools in observation of rocks. Teachers need to seek the teaching and learning plans to provide analytical viewpoints about rocks, the objects of observation, for students and make the observational results that they collected be properly used in the activities to observe rocks by suggesting the observational viewpoint to get the students to observe the entire parts and parts evenly. And they should design the teaching and learning methods which lead and encourage students to collect new scientific facts about rocks in their shoes.

The present study was performed to compare cranial tibial wedge osteotomy (CTWO) and tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) through radiographic evaluation. The experiment was conducted with five cadaver dogs [mean (± SD) weight, 32.9 ± 4.1 kg; mean (± SD) age, 6 ± 2 years; three males and two females] euthanized for reasons unrelated to this study. The cadaver dogs consisted of German Shepherd (n = 3), Belgian Malinois (n = 1), and mixed breed (n = 1). CTWO and TPLO were carried out by the standard surgical method. Radiographic evaluation was performed by comparing several factors, including the flexion and extension angles, the anatomical mechanical axis angle (AMA-angle), tibial length, patellar height measurement using the Labelle-Laurin method, mechanical medial proximal tibial angle (mMPTA), mechanical medial distal tibial angle (mMDTA), and frontal plane alignment (FPA). Both the CTWO and the TPLO groups showed significantly increased flexion angles after surgery. Only the CTWO group had significantly increased extension angle. Although both groups showed significant decreases in the AMA-angle, the mechanical axis moved cranially against the anatomical axis only in the CTWO group. The patellar height was significantly lowered in the CTWO group. No significant differences were found in mMPTA, mMDTA, or FPA. In conclusion, radiographic comparison revealed more changes in CTWO group than in TPLO group.

<P>Recently, many kinds of printing processes have been studied to fabricate perovskite solar cells (PeSCs) for mass production. Among them, slot-die coating is a promising candidate for roll-to-roll processing because of high-throughput, easy module patterning, and a premetered coating system. In this work, we employed mixed lead precursors consisting of PbAc<SUB>2</SUB> and PbCl<SUB>2</SUB> to fabricate PeSCs via slot-die coating. We observed that slot-die-coated perovskite films based on the mixed lead precursors exhibited well-grown and uniform morphology, which was hard to achieve by using only a single lead source. Consequently, PeSCs made with this precursor system showed improved device performance and reproducibility over single PbAc<SUB>2</SUB>. Lastly, a large-area module with an active area of 10 cm<SUP>2</SUP> was fabricated with a power conversion efficiency of 8.3%.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Electrowetting-on-Dielectric Device Controlled by Embedded Undulating Electrode for Liquid Transport

<P>We demonstrated a new architecture of an electrowetting-on-dielectric (EWOD) device to transport a liquid droplet by the spatial modulation of an electric field produced using an embedded undulating electrode. The undulating electrode was constructed on an array of dielectric microstructures with different periods in region by region to generate a gradually varying lateral electric field. The contact angle of a droplet of water on the EWOD surface was found to decrease monotonically from 120 degrees to about 50 degrees with increasing the strength of the electric field. The transport of the water droplet was driven by the surface wettability gradient produced by means of the amplitude modulation of the electric field in space but not in time. Our EWOD configuration allows the flexibility in design, the simplicity in driving scheme, and the high accuracy in position for the liquid transport.</P>
