Objectives: The study aimed to test the validity and reliability of the questionnaire for cold-heat & deficiency- excess pattern identification of dementia and establish a new version of the questionnaire. Methods: Mean, standard deviation, skewness, internal consistency, correlation and t-test of the 26 items derived from previous study was analyzed in 20 dementia patients. The items with Cronbach-α coefficient below 0.7 were modified. Thus, we established a new version of the questionnaire consisting of 20 items. Results: Cronbach-α of each cold, heat, deficiency and excess questionnaire was 0.662, -0.229, 0.722 and 0.778, respectively. The correlation coefficient between cold, heat, deficiency and excess was less than 0.4 and correlation coefficient between dementia and cold, deficiency was 0.518. On t-test, the t-value of cold, deficiency and dementia was -2.196. Conclusions: The results indicated that cold-heat, deficiency-excess questionnaires showed satisfactory discriminant validity. In addition, there was correlation between dementia and cold, deficiency. Finally, we established a new version of the questionnaire for cold-heat, deficiency-excess pattern identification that consisted of 20 items.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to obtain some knowledge concerning the scalp acupuncture treatment on patients with dementia for the future practice and research from clinical studies in China. Methods: The literatures were searched using the data base-China Academic Journals (CAJ) (2001-2011). Results: We found out 1 case study, and 17 randomized controlled trials (RCT) which met the inclusion criteria in most studies. There were 3 types of scalp acupuncture-applying method, cho-si scalp acupuncture(焦氏頭鍼法), combination of using ordinary acupoints(正經鍼) and extraordinary acupoints(經外寄穴), standard method of scalp acupuncture(標準頭鍼法). The often used acupoints are Yundongqu(運動區), Ganjuequ(感覺區), Yuntingqu(暈聽區), Zuyunganqu(足運感區), Sishencong (HN23), Baihui(GV20), Shenting(GV24), Fengchi(GB20), Dingnieqianxiexian(MS6), and Dingniehouxiexian(MS7). Conclusions: There were significant improvements on the scalp acupuncture-treated groups, compared to the control groups (western medication group or other acupuncture treatment group). Results of this study could be used for future studies concerning the scalp acupuncture for dementia.
Quantitative Assay of Hepatitis B Surface Antigen by Using Surface Plasmon Resonance Biosensor

We performed a basic experiment for the rapid, on-line, real-time measurement of hepatitis B surface antigen using a surface plasmon resonance biosensor. We immobilized antiHBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) polyclonal antibody, as a ligand, to the dextran layer on a CM5 chip surface that had previously been activated by N-hydroxysuccinimide. A sample solution containing HBsAg was fed through a microfluidic channel, and the reflecting angle change due to the mass increase from the binding was detected. The binding characteristics between HBsAg and its polyclonal antibody followed the typical monolayer adsorption isotherm. When the entire immobilized antibody had interacted, no additional, non-specific binding occurred, suggesting the immunoreaction was very specific. The bound antigen per unit mass of the antibody was independent of the immobilized ligand density. No significant steric hindrance was observed at an immobilization density of approximately $17.6 ng/mm^2$. The relationship between the HBsAg concentration in the sample solution and the antigen bound to the ligand was linear up to ca. $40{\mu}g$/mL. This linearity was much higher than that of the ELISA method. It appeared the antigen-antibody binding increased as the immobilized ligand density increased. In summary, this study showed the potential of this SPR biosensor-based method as a rapid, simple and multisample on-line assay. Once properly validated, it may serve as a more efficient method for HBsAg quantification for replacing the ELISA.

본 연구는 국, 탕, 찌개류 HMR제품의 영양라벨을 분석하여 제품 선택 시 소비자에게 적합한 정보를 제공하며 국가 정책 수립 시 현황에 관한 기초자료를 제공하고자 진행되었다. 기존 연구에서 외식 및 급식메뉴의 나트륨 함량을 구하고 이를 비교한 연구는 다수 존재하나 가정간편식 제품의 영양성분을 비교한 연구는 드물다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국내에서 시판중인 국류 57개, 탕류 75개, 찌개류 44개로 총 176개의 국, 탕, 찌개류 HMR 제품의 영양라벨을 분석하였다. 제품의 메뉴 빈도에서 국류는 축하 또는 기념 등 목적이 있는 제품, 탕류는 동물성 단백질 위주의 식품, 찌개류는 대중적 제품이 다수를 차지하였다. 제품의 1포장단위당 중량 및 9가지 주요영양성분을 비교분석한 결과, 평균 나트륨 함량은 국류가 1558.5mg, 탕류가 1472.3mg, 찌개류가 2118.0mg으로 찌개류가 가장 높게 나타났다. 보관방법에 따른 분석결과 평균 나트륨 함량은 냉동(-18℃이하)가 2022.9mg, 냉장(-2~10℃)이 1676.7mg, 실온(1~35℃)이 1250.9mg순으로 높게 나타났다. 따라서 HMR제품의 나트륨 저감화를 위해서는 찌개류와 냉동제품을 우선적으로 고려해야 하겠다. The purpose of this study was to analyze the nutrition labeling of Guk, Tang, Jjigae HMR products to provide consumers with appropriate information when selecting products, and to provide basic data on the national policies. In this study, nutritional labels of 176 products were analyzed with 57 Guk, 75 Tang, 44 Jjigae. In the menu frequency of products, Guk has the products of the specific purposes, Tang has animal protein product, Jjigae has popular products. As a result of comparing the portion size and 9 major nutrients of the product, the average sodium content of Guk was 1558.5 mg, Tang was 1472.3mg, Jjigae was 2118.0mg. By the storage temperature, the average sodium content of HMR product was 2022.9mg in freezing(below –18℃), 1676.7mg in cold(-2~10℃), and 1250.9mg in room temperature(1~35℃). Therefore, it is necessary to focus on the sodium content of Frozen products in the attempt of reducing sodium in HMR products.

Objectives: This study examined the effects of 8 types of herbal prescriptions prescribed to alleviate dementia symptoms in a rat model of arterial thrombosis induced by ferric chloride ($FeCl_3$). Methods: Thirty minutes before 35% $FeCl_3$ treatment, SD rats were intraperitoneally injected with the 8 types of herbal prescriptions, respectively. We tested the effects of the herbal prescriptions on time to occlusion (TTO) in an arterial thrombosis model using a laser Doppler flow meter. In addition, thrombus weight (TW) and collagen fiber damages were evaluated in the same condition. Results: Herbal prescriptions showed the following rank-order based on their TTO: Chong-myung-tang (CMT) > modified Jangwonhan 02 (LMK02) > Toki-shakuyaku-san (TSS) ${\geq}$ Oren-gedoku-to (OGT) ${\geq}$ Yokukansan (YKS). In particular, CMT (100 mg/kg, i.p.) and LMK02 (100 mg/kg, i.p.) delayed the TTO the most ($14.83{\pm}0.98$ and $13.67{\pm}1.03$ min, respectively) compared with the vehicle group ($7.95{\pm}0.78$ min, P<0.001). In addition, CMT, LMK02, and OGT treatment ($0.63{\pm}0.01$, $0.66{\pm}0.02$ and $0.67{\pm}0.01$ mg/mm, respectively) significantly reduced thrombus weight compared with the vehicle treatment ($0.78{\pm}0.03$, P<0.001) and also alleviated collagen fiber damage (CMT; $28.40{\pm}2.22$%, LMK02; $30.79 {\pm} 4.07$%, OGT; $26.20{\pm}1.48$%) in the vessels injured by $FeCl_3$. Therefore, CMT and LMK02 showed the greatest preventive activity in rat model of arterial thrombosis induced by $FeCl_3$. Conclusions: These results provide experimental evidence for traditional use of herbal prescriptions, suggesting that CMT and LMK02 extracts could be used to prevent vascular injury and thrombosis in the early stages of dementia.
