Polymer surfaces with wettability gradient were fabricated using three-dimensional (3D) printing technology to control the velocity of droplets on the surfaces. A microscale pattern of a semicircular casting mold was created layer-by-layer using a 3D printer based on fused deposition modeling. A surface with a wettability gradient was fabricated by replicating the semicircular mold with a continuously varying surface slope. Water contact angle measurements and droplet test results demonstrated the characterization of the wettability gradient. Droplets were released on a gradient surface inclined at 80°, and their movements were controlled; the locations of the droplets after collision on the ground were tracked. The distance of the main drop and splash drop was found to be reduced by 96.7% (from 6.1 to 0.2 cm) and 87.8% (from 18.8 to 2.3 cm), respectively, compared to that on a general superhydrophobic surface. This study demonstrates a simple, rapid, and inexpensive microfabrication method for functional polymer surfaces to control droplet movement using 3D printing technology.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of manufacturing industry upon the water industry and to propose ways to foster the water industry through fusion with the ppuri industry. Ppuri industry is the basic process industry that produces parts or finished products by casting, molding, welding, metal forming, surface treatment, and heat treatment. The manufacturing industry still plays an important role for driving economic growth, and the developed countries such as United States, Germany, and Japan are pursuing policies of re-manufacturing. In the water industry, we are looking for growth engines in manufacturing industries for key parts, materials, and equipment. The growth of the parts and materials market is expected to be most prominent. In this article, we examined the reality of manufacturing industry in Korea and the effects of manufacturing on the economy, and investigated the convergence with the ppuri industry for the upbringing of the water industry. Based on these efforts, it is expected to revitalize water industry and strengthen its competitiveness.

다기능 콘크리트 제작을 위하여 다양한 나노 물질들을 혼입한 연구들이 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 다양한 기능을 동시에 발현하기 위해서는 여러 나노 물질들을 한 번에 혼입하여 제작하는 방법이 필요하다. 그러나 나노 물질들을 혼입 시 균일한 분산도를 유지하는 것이 문제가 대두되고 있으며, 특히 콘크리트 강도 발현에 도움을 주는 탄소나노튜브와 나노 실리카를 이중 혼입 시 서로 얽혀 응집되는 현상이 나타났다. 이를 해결하기 위하여 두 물질과 반응성이 좋은 산화 그래핀을 첨가하여 분산도를 높이며 용매 내에서 안정한 상태를 유지시키는 것을 목표로 한다.

이 연구에서는 FDM 방식의 3D 프린팅 기술의 결함을 통해 연속적으로 접촉각이 바뀌는 폴리머 표면을 제작하였다. 추가적인 공정 없이 초소수성/소수성 특징을 가지는 하이브리드 표면을 구현하였다. 본 연구에서 제작한 하이브리드 표면은 면을 따라 흐르는 유체의 속력을 조절할 수 있었으며, 다양한 분야에 적용할 수 있을 것으로 전망된다. In this study, a polymer surface with various contact angles was fabricated through defects of FDM-type 3D printing technology. Hybrid surfaces with superhydrophobic/hydrophobic characteristics were fabricated without additional processes. The hybrid surface was able to control the speed of the fluid flowing along the surface, and it is expected to be applicable in various fields.
