Gangliosides are complex glycosphingolipids that contain one or more sialic acids, the major components of cytoplasmic cell membranes. These are thought to play a role in the control of biological process including cell surface interaction, cell differentiation and transmemebrane signaling. In this study, we demonstrated that change of gangliosides pattern and glycosyltransferase gene in mouse induced pluripotent stem cells (miPSCs). The miPSCs were derived from OG2 mouse embryonic fibroblasts (mEFs) using retrovirus-mediated delivery and expression of Oct-4, Sox-2, Klf-4 and c-Myc. These cells were expressed alkaline phosphatase (AP), stage specific embryonic antigen-1 (SSEA-1) and mRNA such as Oct-4, Sox-2 and Nanog. In HPTLC and immunochemistry analysis, ganglioside GM3 and GD1a were expressed in mEFs, miPSCs and mESCs. However, only GM2 and GM1 were expressed in mEFs and mESCs. Ganglioside GM3 and GD3 expression level was low in miPSCs. Moreover, A2B5 antigen, c-series gangliosides such as GT3 and GQ1c, was only expressed in mESCs. To provide a better understanding of the metabolic basis of glycosyltransferase genes expressions, we analyzed expression of glycosyltransferase genes in mEFs, miPSCs and mESCs, and found that expression of sialyltransferase-I (ST-I), ST-II, ST-III, N-acetylgalactosamine transferase (GalNAcT), galactosyltransferase-II (Gal-II), ST-IV and ST-V. However, ST-II was not only expressed in mEFs. These results suggest that ganglioside GM3 and GD1a unique and powerful cell-surface biomarker to identify of mESCs and miPSCs, and change of ganglioside expression could be affected by gangliosides synthase activation. Therefore, gangliosides may play a role in the cell differentiation process.

<P>Silicon nanosheets have attracted much attention owing to their novel electronic and optical properties and compatibility with existing silicon technology. However, a cost-effective and scalable technique for synthesizing these nanosheets remains elusive. Here, we report a novel strategy for producing silicon nanosheets on a large scale through the simultaneous molten-salt-induced exfoliation and chemical reduction of natural clay. The silicon nanosheets thus synthesized have a high surface area, are ultrathin (similar to 5 nm) and contain mesoporous structures derived from the oxygen vacancies in the clay. These advantages make the nanosheets a highly suitable photocatalyst with an exceptionally high activity for the generation of hydrogen from a water-methanol mixture. Further, when the silicon nanosheets are combined with platinum as a cocatalyst, they exhibit high activity in KOH (15.83 mmol H-2 per s per mol Si) and excellent photocatalytic activity with respect to the evolution of hydrogen from a water-methanol mixture (723 mu mol H-2 per h per g Si).</P>

<B>Objective</B><P>The aim of this study was to assess the expression of DKK3 protein and its target, beta-catenin, in uterine cervical squamous cell carcinoma and to determine potential clinical correlations.</P><B>Materials and Methods</B><P>Six carcinoma in-situ (CIS) tissues and 88 invasive cervical cancer tissues were included in the study. Twenty-two normal cervical tissues and one gastric cancer tissue were used as controls. The expression of DKK3 and beta-catenin proteins was evaluated by immunohistochemical analysis. Clinical and pathological parameters were obtained from medical records. Survival data were estimated using Kaplan-Meier estimates and compared with a log-rank test. Multivariate analysis was performed using the Cox regression method.</P><B>Results</B><P>DKK3 was predominantly present in the cytoplasm. Beta-catenin was observed only on the cellular membrane of both normal and cancer cells in contrast to earlier reports, in which beta-catenin was localized to the cytoplasm and nucleus of cancer cells. The expressions of beta-catenin and DKK3 were not correlated. Three of 6 CIS (50%) and 57 of 88 invasive cancer specimens (64.8%) had lower DKK3 expression than normal controls. DKK3 expression was decreased in a stage-dependent manner (<I>P</I> = 0.021). The patients with low expression of DKK3 were older than those with high expression of DKK3 (<I>P</I> < 0.01). Moreover, the patients with low DKK3 expression had a significantly lower 5-year disease-free survival rate than those with high DKK3 expression (<I>P</I> = 0.026). A multivariate analysis showed that International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics clinical stage and parametrial involvement were independent prognostic factors.</P><B>Conclusion</B><P>Decreased DKK3 expression was associated with advanced International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics clinical stages and was predictive of lower disease-free survival in patients with cervical squamous cell carcinoma. DKK3 may be implicated in cervical carcinogenesis through a beta-catenin-independent mechanism.</P>

이 연구는 지방정부 재난관리조직의 효율적 운영을 위해서 어떤 요인에 대한 정비가 필요한지를 도출하기 위하여, 지방정부 재난관리조직의 효율적 운영을 위한 요인 간 상대적 중요도 분석을 실시 하였다. 재난관리 관련 학계 전문가들은 재난관리 관련 법령간의 연계성 부족을 극복하고, 중앙정부 와 지방정부의 명확한 역할 구분이 이루어져야 한다고 생각하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 이와 달리 재난관리 관련 실무 전문가들은 중앙정부의 재난관리 예산 지원 확대와 지방자치단체장의 관심 증 대와 재난관리 예산 증대가 중요하다고 인식하고 있다. 학계 전문가와 실무 전문가들이 중요시 여기 는 것 간에는 상당부분 유사성이 존재하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 다만 어느 것이 최우선적으로 중요한지에 대해서 학계 전문가들은 법제도적 요인을 가장 중요시하는 반면, 실무 전문가들은 재난 관리 예산 요인을 중요시한다는 점에서 차이가 나타났다. This study analyzes the relative importance among the determinants of efficient operation in disaster management department in local government in order to identify which determinants need improvements. It is found that scholarly communities in disaster management emphasize that the lack of connectivity among the disaster- related laws should be overcome and that role classification between central and local governments should be clarified. On the other hand, practitioners in the field of disaster management perceive that center government should expand budgetary support in disaster management and that local government leaders should enlarge their interests in disaster management and budget. Despite great similarities in important determinants between academic scholars and practitioners, it is worthwhile noting that academic scholars regarded legal and institutional factors most important while practitioners found budgetary factors most important.
