Background: Patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) may have liver specific symptoms as well as non-specific systemic symptoms such as fatigue, muscle cramp, autonomic dysfunction, sleep disturbance and cognitive dysfunction and so on. Additional medication for these symptoms patients may deteriorate liver function. The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of acupuncture on insomnia, anxiety and depression of CLD patients without deterioration of underlying liver function. Methods: National Cancer Center psychologic score (NCC) was greater than 4 points on both severity and inconvenience in any one territory of insomnia, anxiety and depression. 24 fe- male patients with CLD are randomly allocated to each acupuncture (12) and control group (12). Two of acupuncture and one of control group patients have dropped out of the study. Acupuncture treatment was done three times per week for four weeks. After acupuncture treatment, we monitored effi cacy and adverse reaction for additional 8 weeks. Evaluation of effi cacy was done using the NCC scoring system questionnaire (checked at baseline, 4 weeks and 12 weeks). We monitored blood tests and Child-Pugh score every months for checking of deterioration of underlying CLD. Results: The acupuncture group and control group were well matched for age, sex, etiologies for CLD and liver function. Mean age was 61.15 ± 7.94 (SD). NCC score of insomnia was significantly decreased in acupuncture group than control group (6.5 ± 1.179, 3.6 ± 1.713, 2.7 ± 1.567 vs. 6.7 ± 1.104, 7.0 ± 1.342, 6.636 ± 1.286, P=0.000). Also NCC score of anxiety and depression were significantly decreased in acupuncture group (P=0.000). Mean change of T-bilirubin, albumin, PT and Child-Pugh scores between both groups were not seen. Conclusions: NCC of the insomnia, anxiety and depression were significantly decreased without causing of deterioration of liver function in all patients of acupuncture group compare to control group. This study suggests that acupuncture treatment for CLD patients will be beneficial to reduce insomnia, anxiety and depression.

<P>Intelligent home service systems consist of ubiquitous sensors, a home network, and a context-aware computing system that together collect residential environment information and provide intelligent services such as controlling the environment or lighting. Determining a resident's location in the smart home or smart office is a key to such a system. This correspondence presents an enhanced location-recognition algorithm using a Bayesian classifier for the pyroelectric infrared sensor-based indoor location-aware system that is a nonterminal-based location-aware system proposed in a previous paper. This correspondence compares the conventional and enhanced location-recognition algorithms and their performance. The feasibility of the system is evaluated experimentally on a test bed.</P>
Exploiting Replicated Cache Blocks to Reduce L2 Cache Leakage in CMPs
Hyunhee Kim,Jung Ho Ahn,Jihong Kim IEEE 2013 IEEE transactions on very large scale integration Vol.21 No.10
<P>Modern chip multiprocessors (CMPs) employ large L2 caches to reduce the performance gap between processors and off-chip memory. However, as the size of an L2 cache increases, its leakage power consumption also becomes a major contributor to the total power dissipation. Managing the leakage power of L2 caches, therefore, is an important issue in realizing low-power CMPs. In CMPs with private L2 caches, each processor makes a copy of the data in its local cache in order to access the data faster, which is called replication. In this paper, we propose a novel leakage management technique that dynamically turns off replications in private L2 caches for leakage power reduction by exploiting two key observations: 1) the cost of an extra cache miss due to the turned-off replication is small because the same cache block exists in another on-chip cache and 2) turning off the replication incurs no extra cache miss if it is invalidated by other processors in order to maintain cache coherence. Since blindly turning off the frequently accessed replications can degrade performance, the proposed technique dynamically controls the number of turned-off replications. The proposed technique can be implemented by slightly modifying the MESI protocol with a new turned-off shared (TOS) coherence state. The TOS state indicates that the corresponding block is shared by other caches but turned off. Experiments on a four-processor CMP with private L2 caches show that the proposed technique reduces the energy consumption of the L2 caches and the main memory by 19.4% on average, with less than 1% performance loss over the existing cache leakage management technique.</P>
Study of Hair Damage According to the Procedure Method of Cysteine Permanent Wave Agent
( Hyun Hee Kim ),( Eun Jee Kang ),( Kyoung Sook Ko ) 대한미용문화예술학회 2012 International Journal of Beauty Cultural Arts Vol.1 No.1
This study attempted to find the way to minimize the hair damage during the permanent wave procedure using Cysteine through the comparison after measuring the wave formation and the tensile strength and ductility to investigate how Cysteine among the permanent agents affect hair according to the procedure methods and observing the cuticle to figure out the degree of hair damage. The A hair treated with the second agent after spreading the first agent Cysteine (pH 8.80) was used as a control group, and as the result of the experiment using the B hair with the intermediate rinsing by differentiating the intermediate treatment before applying the second agent, the C hair treated with the pH balance, and the D hair treated with the citric acid as the experimental groups, the B hair showed the most effective result in the wave formation, the change of cuticle, the microstructure of cuticle, and the tensile strength and as the result of observing the amino acid composition, the D hair showed the highest result.

Background/Aims: To examine the correlation between radiological joint damage and serological parameters in early rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Methods: This retrospective study reviewed the records of 216 patients diagnosed with RA and classified them according to disease duration: group 1, ≤24 months; group 2, >24 months; and group 3, all patients combined. The extent of joint damage was assessed from plain radiographs using a modified version of the Larsen method and compared among groups. Results: The mean radiographic joint damage score was significantly higher in patients who had established RA (10.1 points) compared with those who had early RA. In group 1, the inflammatory parameters, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and C-reactive protein were positively correlated with the joint damage score, but rheumatoid factor (RF) and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibody were not. A subgroup analysis revealed that the anti-CCP positive patients in groups 1 and 2 had greater joint damage scores than did the anti-CCP negative patients, but no difference in RF was observed between subgroups. Anti-CCP positivity was not significantly correlated with joint damage sores in group 3. Conclusions: Anti-CCP positivity was significantly correlated with more severe joint damage at diagnosis. A correlation was observed between the radiological joint damage score and inflammatory parameters in early and established RA, indicating that anti-CCP can serve as a diagnostic tool and predict structural joint damage. These findings suggest anti-CCP positive patients should receive aggressive therapeutic intervention. (2010;25:201-206)
