Fifty-six-year-old male patient visited our clinic complaining generalized skin lesions which were compatible with erythema multiforme clinically and histopathologically. The skin lesions were treatment-resistant, recurrent and persistent for 3 years. In consideration of old age, atypical features of erythema multiforme and no other demonstrable etiology of erythema multiforme, we studied for internal malignancy. Malignant lymphoma at the duodenum was revealed by UGI series, abdominal CT, and endoscopic biopsy. After chemotherapy, the tumor mass and active skin lesions were cleared simultaneously. Erythema multiforme may be regarded as one of the paraneoplastic syndromes.

        자연정화공법에 의한 하수처리장에서 최적 여재 선정

        농어촌 등에서 소규모로 발생하는 하수를 환경친화적이고 높은 하수처리효율을 유지하면서 하수처리장의 장기간 사용을 위한 최적의 여재를 선정하기 위하며 자연정화공법을 이용한 소형하수처리장치를 호기성조 및 혐기성조로 구분하여 시공한 다음, 하수처리량 및 여재 입경별 수처리 효율을 조사하였고, 호기성조와 혐기성조에서 여재 입경별 하수의 투수속도를 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 호기성조 처리수 및 방류수중의 pH 및 EC는 여제입경에 따라서 별 차이가 없었고, 용존산소는 호기성조를 동과한 호기성조 처리수의 용존산소는 큰 폭으로 증가하였으나 혐기성조를 통과한 방류수의 용존산소는 호기성조 처리수에 비해 약간 감소하여 여재입경 및 하수처리량에 따라서 별 차이가 없이 약 2.4~5.1 mg/L정도이었다. BOD,000 및 탁도 처리율은 여재 대(4~10 mm)를 사용했을 경우에도 호기성조 처리수에서 BOD 처리율은 약 91%이상, COD 처리율은 73%이상, 탁도 처리율은 83%이상이었으며, 이들 처리율은 여재입경이 작을수록 증가하였고 모든 조건에서 방류수중의 BOD 처리율은 98%이상, COD 처리율은 91%이상, 탁도 처리율은 98%이상이었다. 여재입경별 총 질소 및 총 인 처리율은 여재입경이 작을수록 약간 증가하였고, 모든 조건에서 방류수중의 총 질소 처리율은 약 45~59%, 총 인 처리율은 약 80~96% 정도이었다. 하수 처리율 및 투수속도를 고려해 볼 때 하수처리장 호기성조의 최적입경은 2~4 mm정도 혐기성조의 최적입경은 0.1~4 mm정도가 적절한 젓으로 사료되었다. 따라서 이러한 조건을 자연정화공법을 이용한 하수처리장에 적용하면 높은 하수처리효율을 유지하면서 하수처리장의 공극폐쇄현상이 일어나지 않아 장기간 운전할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. An investigation was carried out to evaluate the effects of pebble size on the small-scale sewage treatment apparatus by natural purification method that consisted of aerobic and anaerobic plot pH and EC in both plots varied minimally regardless of pebble size. DO in aerobic plot increased as the pebble size decreased. That in the anaerobic plot was slightly less in comparison with that of the aerobic plot, but varied minimally, 2.4~5.1 mg/L regardless of pebble size. Under all experimental conditions, removals of BOD, COD and turbidity in anaerobic plot were more than 98, 91 and respectively. Removals of T-N and T-P increased as pebble size decreased. Under all experimental conditions, removals of T-N and T-P in anaerobic plot were about 45~59 and 80~96%, respectively. Judging from the above results, it should be considered that the optimum pebble size and pebble permeability in both plot was 2~4 mm and 0.1~4 mm, respectively.

        백서의 하악골 전방 재위치 시 하악과두 조직에서의 nitric oxide synthases 발현 양상

        Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the expression of nitric oxide synthases (NOS) in the mandibular condyle during mandible advancement by functional appliance and to correlate it with the histologic changes and bone remodeling. Methods: Twenty-four female, 35-day-old Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups. In all experimental groups, the mandibles of the rats were kept in a continuous forward position with a fixed bite jumping appliance. The rats were sacrificed on the 3rd, 14th, and 30th days of experiment. More than 2 rats in each group were used for staining. Results: There were no remarkable histologic changes and NOS expression differences in the control group. The most prominent histologic changes occurred in the 14th day experimental group. NOS decreased in the 30th day experimental group. There was increased expression of NOS₂ and NOS₃ in all experimental groups, comparative to the control group. In all the experimental groups and control group, the expression of NOS₂ was greater than that of NOS₃. Conclusions: It is postulated that NOS₂ and NOS₃ in the mandibular condyle might play an important role in bone remodelling of the mandibular condyle. 성장기 아동의 하악과두 조직에서의 골개조 과정은 연골세포, 조골세포, 파골세포가 연관되며 nitric oxide synthase (NOS)가 중요한 매개자의 하나로 작용할 것으로 생각되나 기능성 악정형술을 이용해 하악골을 전방유도시켰을 때 하악과두에서의 골개조와 NOS 의 발현에 대해서는 아직 자세히 연구되어 있지 않다. 본 연구는 하악골을 기능적으로 전방위치시켰을 때 하악과두 조직의 조직학적 변화양상에 대해 살펴보고 NOS 의 발현 정도를 조사하여 상관관계를 알아보고자 하였다 . 35일령의 24마리의 Sprague-Dawley 백서를 3군으로 나누었고 각 군에 있어서 5 마리는 실험군으로 3마리는 대조군으로 나누었다. 실험군은 하악골 전방유도장치를 24시간 장착한 후 3, 14, 30 일에 희생하였으며 시상면에 평행하게 절단하였고 NOS₂와 NOS₃의 조직면역염색을 통해 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 대조군 간에는 조직학적인 변화와 NOS 의 발현 번화가 뚜렷이 관잘되지는 않았으며 실험기간에 따른 조직학적 변화는 실험 14일 군에서 가장 많은 신생골 형성과 조골세포 활성을 보였으며, 실험 30 일 군에서는 감소하는 양상으로 나타났다. 또한 모든 실험군에서 대조군에 비해 NOS₂와 NOS₃의 발현이 많이 나타났으며 실험기간에 따른 비교 시 NOS₂와 NOS₃의 발현은 실험 14 일 군에서 가장 많이 나타났으며 실힘 30 일 군에서는 감소하는 양상으로 나타났다. 전체 실험군과 대조군에서 NOS₂의 발현은 NOS₃의 발현보다 많이 나타났고 NOS₂는 실험군 과두의 비대연골, 연골하골에서 주로 발현되었다. NOS₃는 실험군 과두의 골수와 모세혈관에서 주로 발현되었다. 따라서 하악과두 내의 NOS₂와 발현조절이 하악과두 조직의 골개조에 관여함을 시사한다.

        Changes in Frequency of Use and Satisfaction of Visitors on Urban Forest as Recreational Resources - Focused on Seonhaksan and Bibongsan Mountains, Jinju City, Korea -

        This study was conducted to investigate the changes in the frequency of use, users’ behaviour and satisfaction of Seonhaksan and Bibongsan mountains near city center improved through the park and green spaces projects implemented by Jinju City Hall from 2004 to 2016. The number of visitors per day was measured by observation surveys in 2004 and 2016. The users’ behaviour and satisfaction were measured by questionnaires in 2004 and 2017. The collected data were analyzed by frequency analysis and independent sample t-test. The number of visitors per day increased about two times on weekdays and more than 2.5 times on weekends in 2016 than in 2004. Relatively the number of male visitors increased more than that of female visitors. The share of elderly visitors has increased and the number of visitors who live out of 1 km radius has increased. The goals of visit were changed from hiking or walking to various recreational activities, and the number of users visiting by car increased. The number of visits and the duration of visit has decreased. The inconveniences of trails and exercise facilities were significantly reduced, and the necessity of family recreational facilities fulfilled. The necessity of outdoor learning facilities and programs has not been recognized. Comprehensively, the results indicate that the recreational quality of Seonhaksan and Bibongsan mountains has improved. Further implementation of target-oriented parks and green spaces will be necessary in the future.

        훼손된 산지의 복원과 이용을 위한 시민의식 분석: 진주시 비봉산을 대상으로

        The purpose of study was to find critical problems which needed urgent solution and give policy priorities on the damaged forest lands close to cities through analysis of public perception. A survey was conducted of forest land users at the entrance of Mt. Bibongsan. And the survey consist of the questions of socioeconomic background on its nominal scale and the questions of cultural value, problem, solutions, maintenance methods and main body to drive related policies for the highly damaged Mt. Bibongsan on 5-point Likert scale. The 86.7 percent of respondents were in the over forties’ age and 65.3 percent visited the forest land more than two times a month. The early five categories’ averaged values were ranging from 3.54 to 3.89. Among the categories, ‘Solutions of the damaged forest land,’ ‘Mt. Bibongsan Restoration method’ and ‘Main body to drive policies’ showed statistical significance in their internal variables from Kruskal-Wallis test. But they did not show exact the ranking between variables and ranking. So thirty variables were reclassified to five categories (F1 ~ F5) by factor analysis. And with using this categories as dependent variables, five regression models were established respectively. The result showed that ‘Problem of Mt. Bibongsan (F1a)’ could be severer by illegal facilities and soil erosion from farming and ‘Solutions of Mt. Bibongsan (F1b)’ took the restoration of forest and destruction of aged houses on hillside as priories. For ‘Historical resources restoration (F2)’, it required to find folk tales and commune with citizen more from restoration of historical resources. To enhance ‘Mt. Bibongsan’s cultural value (F3)’, it was very important to consider citizen’s emotion linked to Mt. Bibongsan. As a ‘Main body to drive policies (F4)’, citizen’s active participation is more effective to policy enforcement. ‘Maintenance policy projects (F5)’ took restoration forest from farmland and forestscape improvement on city-viewed part as urgent projects.

        A comparative study of Sargassum horneri Korea and China strains collected along the coast of Jeju Island South Korea: its components and bioactive properties

        Sargassum horneri is edible brown seaweed abundant along the coasts of Jeju Island, South Korea. In addition to thenative S. horneri population, a large amount of S. horneri has been found to invade Jeju Island from the east coast ofChina. Thus, S. horneri of both Korea (SK) and China (SC) strains now inhabits along with the shore of Jeju Island andhave become a threat to the coastal biodiversity. However, they could be used in obtaining functional ingredients forindustrial level applications provided an optimized cost effective strategy. In the present study, we compared SK andSC strains for the extraction efficiency, components, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory properties of 80% methanolicextracts and their partially purified fractions. According to the results, two strains indicated similar bioactive propertiessuch as DPPH and alkyl radical scavenging activity as well as anti-inflammatory activities on lipopolysaccharide-stimulatedRAW 264.7 cells. The yield of 80% methanol extract from SC was higher than SK. However, the yields of the ethylacetate and chloroform fractions from SK were higher than those of SC strain. The major peaks in the high-performanceliquid chromatography chromatograms, which was identified as Apo-9 fucoxanthinone, indicated that both methanolicextracts of SK and SC contains major target peaks but with different amounts. This study might be useful for developingfunctional materials from SC and SK in future.

      • Genome-wide exploration of <i>Escherichia coli</i> genes to promote <i>Chlorella vulgaris</i> growth

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Microalgal interactions with bacteria are ubiquitous, and are crucial for algal survival. Nevertheless, the detailed mechanisms underpinning the bacterial interactions and their beneficial consequences are unclear. In the current study, we studied the interactions of the model microalga <I>Chlorella vulgaris</I> with a model prokaryote <I>Escherichia coli</I>. We employed a complete set of <I>E</I>. <I>coli</I> K-12 ORF archive (ASKA) library overexpressing a complete set of <I>E</I>. <I>coli</I> K-12 open reading frames to identify the target bacterial genes whose products enhance <I>C</I>. <I>vulgaris</I> growth. During three successive screening rounds, 32 genes were selected whose overexpression resulted in >1.4-fold increase in algal chlorophyll <I>a</I> content. Four genes <I>ribA</I>, <I>ribD</I>, <I>ribE</I> and <I>ssuE</I> that exerted a growth-promoting effect on <I>C</I>. <I>vulgaris</I> were finally identified. These genes were involved in the bacterial riboflavin biosynthesis pathway, which was validated by determining the riboflavin content in the four selected <I>E</I>. <I>coli</I> clones and confirmed by the analysis of the growth-promoting effect of synthetic riboflavin on <I>C</I>. <I>vulgaris</I>. Collectively, these observations revealed a new bacterial determinant involved in microalgae growth promotion. The genome-wide high-throughput screening system provided insight into the long-term adaptation of <I>C</I>. <I>vulgaris</I> to bacterial interactions.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Rapid screening method was developed to find algal growth-promoting bacterial gene. </LI> <LI> Riboflavin biosynthesis pathway-related genes were identified. </LI> <LI> Enhanced riboflavin was detected in <I>ribA</I> gene over-expressing bacteria. </LI> <LI> Synthetic riboflavin augmented algal growth in a concentration-dependent manner. </LI> </UL> </P>

      • Influences of Vorticity to Vertical Motion of Two-Dimensional Moonpool under Forced Heave Motion

        <P>Potential (inviscid-irrotational) and Navier-Stokes equation-based (viscous) flows were numerically simulated around a 2D floating rectangular body with a moonpool; particular emphasis was placed on the piston mode through the use of finite volume method (FVM) and boundary element method (BEM) solvers. The resultant wave height and phase shift inside and outside the moonpool were compared with experimental results by Faltinsen et al. (2007) for various heaving frequencies. Hydrodynamic coefficients were compared for the viscous and potential solvers and sway and heave forces were discussed. The effects of the viscosity and vortex shedding were investigated by changing the gap size, corner shape, and viscosity. The viscous flow fields were thoroughly discussed to better understand the relevant physics and shed light on the detail flow structure at resonant frequency. Vortex shedding was found to account for the most of the damping. The viscous flow simulations agreed well with the experimental results, showing the actual role and contribution of viscosity compared to potential flow simulations.</P>

      • Stress and Vibration Analysis of Motor Back Plate in HDD

        <P>In the present study, we have simulated stress characteristics and vibration modes in the back plate of head-stack driving motor of 2.5 inch small sized hard disk drives (HDDs). The magnets in head-stack driving motor have large magnetic fields, and therefore, the resulting large force may induce fracture and deformation in the back plate of the motor. Since the high-speed motion of head-stack motor generates high frequency vibration, we analyzed the vibration mode to avoid resonant frequency. ANSYS software was used in this study to check the deformation of back plate with the following design parameters: thickness of plate, the number of support beams, and the width of support beams. From the vibration mode analysis, we obtained a stable plate shape whose operating frequency is off the resonant frequency.</P>
