        Elizabethan Prose Fiction: Its Modal Diversity and Artistic Development

        김호영엘리자베스조 산문 서사 문학에 대한 문학사가들의 평가는 대체적으로 부정적이다. 그 중요한 이유 중의 하나는 이 서사 문학에 대해서 그것 자체의 특성과 예술적 발전이라는 관점에서 보기보다는 19세기에 확립된 사실주의적 소설의 관점에서 이 문학 작품들을 평가하는 데 기인한다. 따라서 프라이의 역사적 시기와 문학적 양식 사이에 존재하는 연관성에 대한 이론은 엘리자베스조 산문 서사 문학의 독특한 양식적 다양성을 음미하게 해주는데 있어서 매우 효과적인 연구의 틀을 제공하고 있다. 더군다나 시드니의 아르카디아나 개스코인의 F. J.씨의 모험 그리고 내쉬의 불행한 여행자와 같은 작품들은 엘리자베스조 산문 서사 문학의 전반적인 양식적 다양성뿐만 아니라 그 다양성이 한 작품 속에도 존재할 수 있음을 보여준다. 한 걸음 더 나아가 숄러스와 켈로그의 서사 장르에 대한 이론은 엘지자베스조 산문 서사 문학에서 보여지는 다양한 장르와 그 장르들의 혼합에 대해서 보다 체계적인 연구를 할 수 있는 발판을 마련해준다. 이들의 이론을 릴리의 유피어스와 롯지의 로살린드 딜로니의 리딩의 토마스에 적용시켜보면 이들 작품들이 점차적으로 예시와 심미적 만족감 그리고 사실적 묘사라고 하는 서사 문학의 다양한 요구들을 통합시키는 방향으로 발전하고 있음을 볼 수 있다. 비록 엘리자베스조 산문 서사 문학이 후대의 영국 근대 소설의 직접적인 모태라고 말할 수는 없겠지만 이 서사 문학이 근대 소설이 지향하는 목표를 나름대로 추구하고 있었다는 점만은 인정해야 할 것이다.

        Peripapillary Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer Thickness Change After Panretinal Photocoagulation in Patients With Diabetic Retinopathy

        Purpose: To examine the effect of panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) on the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness in patients with diabetic retinopathy. Methods: Subjects included 118 eyes for a treatment group and 164 eyes for a control group. The peripapillary RNFL thickness was measured before and 6 months after PRP in treatment group. In control group, the peripapillary RNFL thickness was measured at baseline and 6 months later. The relationships between changes in RNFL thickness and the number of laser burns, duration of diabetes, HbA1c level, and vision change were analyzed. Results: After 6 months, the RNFL thickness decreased an average of 2.12 ㎛ and 0.93 ㎛ in the treatment and control groups. However, the changes between the two groups were not statistically significant. The relationship between the number of laser burns and changes in RNFL thickness was not significant. No differences were found between changes in the RNFL thickness and the duration of diabetes in either group. However, in the treatment group a higher HbA1c level was correlated with a greater decrease in post-PRP RNFL thickness. This relationship was not observed in the control group. The difference in the change of the RNFL thickness between the two groups was statistically significant. Vision increased an average of 0.02 and 0.01 after 6 months in the treatment and control groups, respectively. However, this difference was not statistically significant. Conclusions: Although a decrease in peripapillary RNFL thickness was observed in the treatment group after 6 months, it was not statistically significant compared to control group. However, the decrease was greater when the blood HbA1c level was higher.       • 모션 캡쳐 시스템을 이용한 쿼드로터의 실내 군집 비행 연구

        모션 캡쳐 시스템을 이용한 실내 비행 시험 환경은 비행체에 부착된 마커 위치를 측정하여 제어에 필요한 위치 및 자세 정보를 제공해 준다. 이 환경을 활용하면, 무인 자동 비행에 필요한 센서가 탑재 되지 않은 기체로도 무인 자동 비행을 시험할 수 있다. 따라서 다수의 자동 비행이 가능한 기체가 필요한 군집 협업이나 high-level 알고리즘 등의 검증 시험에, 자동 비행에 필요한 센서가 탑재되지 않은 상용 기체들을 이용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 모션 캡쳐 시스템과 초소형 상용 쿼드로터 네 대를 활용하여 실내 공간에서 군집 비행을 수행하였다. 그 결과 군집 협업이나 high-level 알고리즘 검증에 비행 시험 환경 및 상용 기체를 효율적으로 활용할 수 있음을 확인하였다. Indoor flight testing environment using motion capture system provides the position and orientation of a flying object with respect to the global coordinate. Those data can be used to make a feedback controller in the ground station where the flying object has no on-board GPS or heading sensors for guidance and navigation control. In the light of microelectronics, off-the-shelf quadrotors have stability and controllability augmentation system so that the vehicles are easily applied to autonomous flight testing with the assistance of indoor GPS and a mission demonstration of multi-agents. This study shows autonomous flight of four quadrotor agents and their trajectory tracking performances in indoor flight testing environment.

        프로테스탄트 인문주의적 윤리의 가능성과 한계 : 『요정여왕』 제 2 권 Book Two of The Faerie Queene

        The Renaissance with its strong emphasis on man's potential is bound to conflict with the Reformation that regards man's aspiration for greatness as sinful pride. But in Book Two of The Faerie Queene, Edmund Spenser, as a Protestant humanist, attempts to unite the two conflicting tendencies dynamically, which results in a profound exploration of the possibilities and limits of Protestant humanistic ethic. Spenser's thorough examination of classical and Christian understandings of the nature of man offers him a powerful tool to analyze man's ethical potential and its limit. Amavia's tragic death begins to sharpen the contrast between the two different views of man. The House of Medina is an allegorical place that suggests the fundamental inadequacy of classical ethic. Moreover, the Cave of Mammon reveals that classical ethic is not only inadequate but also dangerous because the devil is behind extreme passions and exploits them to destroy man's soul and body. The episode criticizes Guyon's too much confidence in his ethical potential and suggests that he needs a Christian concept of ethic that aims not to rationally control passions but to radically oppose the powers of sin, death and the devil, that exploit the passions in order to destroy man. But it does not mean that his ethical efforts themselves should be given up; they should be reoriented to serve God's Grace. However, even such a Christian ethic does not guarantee Guyon the final victory over his enemies because he remains a sinful man through and through. His ethical efforts should always go with his humble contrite heart, without which his Protestant humanist ethic is bound to lead him to self-righteousness and corruption. After realizing the aim of Christian ethic in the Castle of Alma, which represents the ideal state of man's soul and body, Guyon visits the Bower of Bliss, which aims to enslave man to sensuality with a diabolical intention. He grasps the demonic and idolatrous character of the place and ruthlessly destroys it. This episode most dramatically reveals the possibilities and limits of Protestant humanistic ethic. His ethical efforts transcend the limit of classical ethic solely depending on man's rational control. But he still cannot escape from the possibility of sin. A Protestant humanistic ethic that asserts its own innocence from sin can transform itself into a mere political ideology and become a means of justifying the imperialistic conquest and oppression of other non-Protestant cultures as Greenblatt persuasively points out. But what Greenblatt's new-historicist view of the episode obscures is that Spenser maintains the dynamic tension between the secular and Christian views of man's ethical potential. Thus in the Bower of Bliss Guyon walks along a dangerous and ambiguous border line between the need for struggle against demonic idolatry and the imperialistic urge to conquer and oppress the demonized Other.
