<P>In this paper, the development of compact transmission soft x-ray microscopy (XM) with sub-50 nm spatial resolution for biomedical applications is described. The compact transmission soft x-ray microscope operates at λ = 2.88 nm (430 eV) and is based on a tabletop regenerative x-ray source in combination with a tandem ellipsoidal condenser mirror for sample illumination, an objective micro zone plate and a thinned back-illuminated charge coupled device to record an x-ray image. The new, compact x-ray microscope system requires the fabrication of proper x-ray optical devices in order to obtain high-quality images. For an application-oriented microscope, the alignment procedure is fully automated via computer control through a graphic user interface. In imaging studies using our compact XM system, a gold mesh image was obtained with 45 nm resolution at ?580 magnification and 1 min exposure. Images of a biological sample (<I>Coscinodiscus oculoides</I>) were recorded.</P>
The Relationship of Compressive Strength and Tensile Strength of High Performance Concrete

<P>Fly ash and blast furnace slag dumped not only pollutes environment, but also consumes landfills. With the aim of sustainable development, the isolated contribution of fly ash and blast furnace slag in concrete to the mechanical properties of frame concrete is investigated. An experimental study is conducted to investigate mechanical properties of high performance concrete. Test variables are the replacement levels for FA series (10%, 20% and 30%) and for BS series (10%, 30%, 50% and 70%) in place of part of cement. Compressive, splitting tensile strength, modulus of elasticity and flexural strength tests were carried out to evaluate the mechanical properties for up to 7days and 28 days. The mechanical properties of high performance concrete compared with predicted values by ACI 318-02 Code, EC 2-02, JSCE Code, KCI Code and proposed Eq.</P>

무인항공살포기를 이용한 방제는 농작업에 투입되는 노동력과 시간을 획기적으로 줄여주는 장점이 있지만 농약 비산으로 인한 피해가 발생할 가능성이 높다. 농약의 비산은 여러 가지 원인이 있지만 풍향 및 풍속과 같은 자연환경과 살포농약의 제형 및 노즐 특성이 주요 요인이라고 알려져있다. 따라서 이 연구는 풍속 및 노즐에 따른 항공살포 농약의 비산 특성을 구명하기 위하여 풍속을 제어할 수 있는 wind tunnel에서 항공살포 농약의 비산량을 측정하였다. 시험제형은 항공살포 농약 중 가장 많이 제조되고 있는 제형인 액상수화제이었으며, 유효성분이 없는 blank formulation을 (주)팜한농으로부터 제공받아 16배 희석하여 살포하였다. 노즐은 무인항공살포기에 주로 사용되는 XR110002와 저비산노즐로 알려져있는 DG110002을 워터펌프와 연결한 후 wind tunnel 상단(높이 : 2 m)에 부착하였으며, 실험에 사용된 wind tunnel의 길이는 15 m이었다. 풍속은 0 m/s(무풍상태), 1 m/s, 2 m/s, 3 m/s이었으며, wind tunnel 바닥에 1 m 간격으로 감수지를 설치하고 희석액을 살포한 후 수거하여 감수지의 coverage를 산출하는 방법으로 비산거리를 측정하였다. 감수지 coverage의 유효즉정 값은 0.05% 이상이었다. XR 노즐의 최대 coverage를 보이는 지점은 1, 2, 3 m/s에서 각각 2, 3, 4 m 지점이었으며, DG 노즐의 경우 각각 1, 2, 4 m 지점이었다. 또한 무풍상태에서 XR 노즐로 살포한 희석액은 1 m 지점까지 도달하였으며, 1과 2 m/s의 풍속에서는 각각 9 와 14 m 지점까지 비산되었다. XR 노즐보다 상대적으로 살포액적의 크기가 큰 DG 노즐은 무풍상태에서 1 m 지점까지 비산되었으며, 1과 2 m/s의 풍속에서는 각각 8과 12 m 지점까지 살포액이 비산되었다. 3 m/s의 풍속에서는 측정 최대 거리인 15 m 지점에서 각각 평균 14.14와 4.45%의 coverage를 보여 DG 노즐이 XR 노즐보다 비산 거리가 짧은 것으로 나타났다. 3 m/s의 풍속에서의 노즐별 평균 감수지 coverage를 이용하여 회귀곡선을 작성하여 도출한 회귀곡선식을 이용하여 최대 조사 지점인 15 m 이상의 거리에 비산되는 정도를 예측하였다. XR과 DG 노즐은 각각 약 54와 35 m 지점에서 유효측정 coverage인 0.05% 이하로 감소할 것으로 예측되었다. 결과적으로 항공살포 농약 비산의 주요 요인은 풍속이지만 이를 저감하기 위해서는 살포액적 크기가 큰 노즐을 선택하는 것이 합리적이라고 판단되었다.

In this study, anti-inflammatory effect of the ethyl acetate fraction of Eucommia ulmoides leaves (EFEL) on particulate matter (PM)2.5-induced intestinal damage mice model was evaluated. The EFEL showed a cytoprotective effect against PM2.5-induced cell death in HT29 cells. The EFEL ameliorated reduced glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) level in intestinal tissue. In addition, EFEL inhibited the intestinal malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Furthermore, myelin peroxidase (MPO) level using the marker of intestinal inflammation was decreased in the EFEL group. Furthermore, the inflammatory cytokines such as (IL-1β, TNF-α and p-IκB-α) levels were decreased in the EFEL group. Also, intake of EFEL protected the tight junction proteins such as occluding and claudin-1 on PM2.5-induced intestine damage mice.

We constructed marine forest to restore barren grounds which are expanding in the east coast of Korea using 2 methods of (1)seedlings transplantation method and (2)underwater floating ropes method. We transplanted 3 macroalgae species, Ecklonia cava, Undaria pinnatifida, and Saccharina. japonica to construct marine forest. Blade length of Undaria pinnatifida on underwater floating ropes was 56.70±8.69㎜ in April and grew 68.75±22.30㎜ in May and 70.75±14.36㎜ in July. Blade length of S. japonica was shown 97.95-143.00㎜ in April to June. Blade length of Ecklonia cava was 30.50±1.91㎜ in May, 41.55±1.84㎜ in August, 45.30±2.57㎜ in November, 2009 and 45.30±1.99㎜ in February, 2010. The survey on Dangsa area, Ulsan-city in January, 2009 found a total number of 15 algal species(1 brown algae, 14 red algae species) with the highest variety at 5m depth of A station and the lowest at 8m depth of A and B stations. The March survey showed a total of 24 species (1 green algae, 1 brown algae, 22 red algae species) with the highest variety of 11 at depths of 3m and 5m of B station and the lowest of 6 at 10m of B station. In May, total biomass was 3,755.4g (green algae 1.2g, brown algae 199.0g, red algae 3,555.2g). From January, 2009, we found that E. cava was dominant at the depths of 3m and 5m of A and B stations while Peyssonnelia capensis was dominant at the depth of 8m of A station. The 8m depth of B station was dominated by Acrosorium polyneurum. In May, Grateloupia lanceolata was dominant at 8m depth of A station while other depths were dominated by Phycodrys fimbriata. In June, the dominant species were G. lanceolata at the 3m depth, E. cava at the 5m and P. fimbriata at the depths of 8m and 10m of A station. Under B station, G. lanceolata was dominant at the depths of 3m and 5m while P. fimbriata was dominant at the depths of 8m and 10m.
Regulatory Effect of Matcha Green Tea on Fine Dust-Exposed Cytotoxicity in Respiratory System

This study was performed to evaluate the protective effect of matcha green tea on particulate matter (PM)2.5-indued nasal and pulmonary cytotoxicity. The matcha green tea increased the cell viability and inhibited the ROS production in PM2.5-induced cytotoxicity in nasal RPMI2650 and pulmonary A549 cells. The matcha green tea regulated the expression of apoptosis, such as p-Akt, BCl-2, caspase-3, caspase-1 and HO-1, and inflammation, such as TLR4, TLR4 and Nrf2, in PM2.5-indued RPMI2650 cells. In addition, the matcha green tea showed regulatory effect of the apoptosis and inflammatory effect by increasing the BCl-2 and suppressing the caspase-3, TLR4, TNF-α and COX-2 in A549 cells. In addition, the matcha green tea suppressed antioxidant deficits by regulating the reduced GSH contents, SOD activities and MDA levels, and ameliorated the mitochondrial dysfunction by regulating the mitochondrial ROS production, mitochondrial membrane potential and ATP contents in pulmonary tissue. Ultimately, consumption of matcha green tea down-regulated the inflammatory proteins such as TNF-α, p-JNK, p-IκB-α, p-NF-κB and COX-2 in lung tissue.

This study was conducted to assess the protective effect of extract of matcha green tea (EM) against particulate matter (PM)2.5- and H₂O₂-induced dermal damage in primary dermal fibroblast and BALB/c mice. In the results of in vitro cell study, the EM increased the cell viability and decreased ROS production in PM2.5- and H₂O₂-induced primary dermal fibroblast cells by suppressing the inflammatory protein expression of caspse-3, caspase-1, p-JNK, p-NF-κB, COX-2 and IL-1β in primary dermal fibroblast cells. In addition, the EM protected the PM2.5-exposed antioxidant damage in dermal tissue by regulating the reduced GSH contents, SOD activity and MDA levels. The EM attenuated the inflammatory protein expression of TNF-α, TLR4, TLR2, p-JNK, BAX and COX-2 in dermal tissue.
