Objectives: The aim of the study was to investigate the antihypertensive effect of Hwang-gu Acupuncture in hypertensive patients. Methods: We measured the blood pressure of the patients who were admitted in the Oriental Medical Clinic of Brother from 25th November 2005 to 27th March 2006. We included the patients only in case of the systolic blood pressure was over 140mmHg or diastolic blood pressure was over 90mmHg, Twenty two patients were treated by Hwang-gu Acupuncture. In order to evaluate the effect of the Hwang-gu Acupuncture, the blood pressure was measured before and after Acupuncture procedure total 4 times, 10times. Results: There were a significant decrease in the systolic blood pressure and significant decrease in the diastolic blood pressure by Hwang-gu Acupuncture 4 times. The effect of Hwang-gu Acupuncture by measurement time on blood pressure were follows: In a systolic blood pressure was gradually deceased significantly from 1st to 4th but diastolic blood pressure was significantly decreased after 2nd and 4th only. Conclusions: These results suggest that Hwang-gu Acupuncture is effective in decreasing the systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Preparation of anatase/rutile mixed-phase titania nanoparticles for dye-sensitized solar cells.
Hwang, Yong-Kyung,Park, Sung Soo,Lim, Jun-Heok,Won, Yong Sun,Huh, Seong American Scientific Publishers 2013 Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Vol.13 No.3
<P>Acid-labile high surface mesoporous ZnO/Zn(OH)2 composite material is used as a novel hard template for the preparation of mesoporous amorphous TiO2. The template-free amorphous TiO2 material is then thermally crystallized at suitable temperature to control the relative ratio of anatase and rutile phases in a particle. Four different anatase/rutile (AR) mixed-phase TiO2 nanoparticles (AR-3, AR-15, AR-20, and AR-23 denoted for the samples of 3%, 15%, 20%, and 23% rutile phase, respectively) are prepared and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The coexistence of anatase and rutile phases in a TiO2 nanoparticle is visually confirmed by HRTEM analysis. These mixed-phase TiO2 nanoparticles are examined as candidates for photoelectrodes of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The J-V curves and IPCE spectra for the DSSCs prepared from the mixed-phase TiO2 nanoparticles are obtained, and their photovoltaic properties are investigated. The photo-conversion efficiency (eta) indicates the highest value of 5.07% for AR-20. The synergistic effect of coexisting anatase and rutile phases with an optimal ratio in a TiO2 nanoparticle of AR-20 for an efficient interfacial transfer of photo-generated electrons is likely to lead to the highest efficiency among the AR-n samples.</P>

Validating of the pre-clinical mouse model for metastatic breast cancer to the mandible
HWANG, Young Sun,HAN, Sang-Sun,KIM, Ki-Rim,Ye-Jin, LEE,Sun-Kyung, LEE,Kwang-Kyun, PARK,Won-Yoon, CHUNG Faculdade de Odontologia de Bauru da Universidade 2015 Journal of applied oral science Vol.23 No.1
<P>Metastatic breast carcinoma has a great tendency to spread to the mandible. It is concomitantly associated with bone destruction, food intake disorder, and a poorer prognosis. Appropriate animal models need to be developed for a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying the metastatic process of breast cancer cells to mandible and to test the effects of potential lead compounds. Here, we assessed the metastasis model of intracardiac injection using luciferase-transfected metastatic breast cancer cells (MDA-MB-231Luc+) by determining the incidences of metastasis, mCT images, and histopathological results. A high bioluminescence signal mainly detected mandibular lesions with less frequent distal femora and proximal tibiae lesions. Extensive mandibular bone destruction occurred in nude mice grafted with metastatic breast cancer cells. This type of animal model might be a useful tool in assessing therapeutic implications and the efficacy of anti-cancer drugs for osteolytic cancers.</P>
S-562 A case of multiple myeloma and chronic myeloid leukemia presented simultaneously
( Sun-young Hwang ),( Ji-young Lee ),( Sang-min Lee ),( Ki-hyang Kim ),( Moon-young Choi ),( Won-sik Lee ) 대한내과학회 2016 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2016 No.1
Introduction:?Multiple myeloma (MM) and chromic myeloid leukemia (CML) are uncommon malignancy which accounts for approximately 1.6% and 0.4% of all newly-diagnosed cancer respectively. MM and CML diagnosed at the same time in one patient is an extremely rare event and this has been reported only in 4 cases previously in the world. In this report, we describe a case of synchronous MM and CML.?Case:?A 64-year old man was referred to our hospital for evaluation of right pleural soft-tissue mass and sternal osteolytic lesion incidentally detected on chest computed tomography. He had no symptoms and physical examination was unremarkable. Complete blood count showed white blood cell count 13.1×109/L, hemoglobin 8.3 g/dl, and platelets 234×109/L. Reversal of albumin-globulin ratio (total protein 11.8 g/dl, albumin 2.3 g/dl), renal dysfunction (creatinine clearance 38.4 mL/min), and hypercalcemia (calcium 11.8 mg/dl) were detected. 7 g of monoclonal IgA, lambda type was detected in serum immunoelectrophoresis. Serum kappa/ lambda free light chain ratio was 0.006. Serum ß2 microglobulin was 19.8 mg/L. Radiological investigation showed multiple osteolytic lesions in skull and axial skeleton. Needle biopsy of pleural mass showed plasma cell infiltration which were positive in the immunohistochemical stain for CD 138. A bone marrow biopsy and aspirates showed increased cellularity up to 90% with myeloid and focal plasma cell hyperplasia. Molecular analysis revealed BCR/ABL rearrangement. Consequently, He diagnosed stage III MM and low-risk CML according to International Staging System (ISS) and Sokal score respectively. We decided to treat high-stage MM first rather than low-risk CML. He was started to administrate thalidomide 100 mg daily and dexamethasone 40 mg on D1-4, D15-18. After 4 weeks, however, he died of pneumonia. And we could not access the treatment response. Conclusions:?This is a first case in Korea that MM and CML presented in one patient simultaneously. Further cases are needed to figure out the clinical characteristics and evaluable treatments.

Background: Some studies suggest the existence of an “obesity paradox” in the intensive care unit (ICU). However, reports relating renal function and body mass index (BMI) are limited and controversial. This study aimed to examine the influence of BMI on acute kidney injury (AKI) in critically ill patients. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the prospectively collected data from patients admitted to the ICU at Gyeongsang National University Hospital in Korea from December 2011 to May 2014. Patients were stratified to three classes according to their BMI (“underweight” <18.5 kg/m2, “normal” 18.5-24.9 kg/m2, and “overweight” =25 kg/m2). The occurrence of AKI was defined by Risk, Injury, Failure, Loss of kidney function, and End-stage kidney disease criteria, and the impact of BMI on AKI was analyzed. Results: A total 468 patients in the ICU were analyzed, and AKI occurred in 82 (17.5%) patients. The mean BMI was 21.5 ± 4.0 kg/m2; 102 patients (21.8%) were classified as “underweight,” 286 patients (61.1%) were classified as “normal,” and 80 patients (17.1%) were classified as “overweight.” The adjusted analysis showed significantly higher risk of AKI in the overweight group compared to the underweight group (odds ratio, 3.95; 95% confidence interval, 1.74-9). Additional risk factors for AKI in critically ill patients included comorbid liver cirrhosis, septic shock, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Conclusions: BMI is a possible predictor of AKI in ICU patients, as this study indicated that AKI occurs more frequently in overweight patients than in underweight patients.
