The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidative effects of Rhodiola sachalinensis Rhodiola methanol extract was fractionated sequentially with dichloromethane and butanol. Each Rhodiola fraction (water, MeOH, BuOH and CH_2Cl_2 fractions) showed the potent superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and had inhibitory effets on peroxide value of linoleic acid (40~57%) and lipid peroxidation (47~70%) in FE^2+/ascorbate system-induced rat liver microsome. Rhodiola methanol extract also recovered carbon tetrachloride-induced decrease in SOD by 42% and catalase activities by 50%, and had inhibitory effects (54%) on carbon tetrachloride-induced lipid peroxidation in rat liver microsome. These results suggest that Rhodiola sachalinensis has the antioxidative effects.

This study examines the effects of lightemitting diode (LED) light and temperature on lettuce growth. For plant growth, we used an LED bar composed of red, white and blue LEDs (4:1:2). Six types of cultivation equipment were used to measure the temperature. To compare their effects, the heights of the lettuces and the water temperatures were measured. The results demonstrated that the lettuce growth was optimal at 25ºC.
Tellurite glasses for vitrification of technetium-99 from pyrochemical processing

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A new alkali-alumino tellurite glass composition was developed to immobilize highly-volatile technetium (Tc) wastes generated from the pyrochemical processing technology. Tellurite glass can incorporate up to 7 mass% of rhenium (Re, used as a surrogate for Tc) with an average retention of 86%. Normalized elemental releases evaluated by seven-day product consistency test (PCT) satisfied the immobilized low activity waste requirements of United States when concentration of Ca(ReO4)2 in the glass was <12 mass%. Re ions form Re7+ and are coordinated with four oxygens to form ReO4 − tetrahedra. These tetrahedra bond to modifiers such as Ca2+ or Na+ that are further connected to the tellurite glass network by Ca2+ (or Na+) – non-bridging oxygen bonds.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Alkali-alumino tellurite glass is developed to immobilize 99Tc. </LI> <LI> Tellurite glass can incorporate up to 7 mass% of Re (used as a surrogate for Tc). </LI> <LI> Re ions in the tellurite glasses are in the form of Re(VII)O4 − tetrahedra. </LI> <LI> The product consistency tests satisfied the requirements for the low activity wastes. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
EQUIVOLUMETRIC OFFSET CURVES AND SURFACES
Hwan Pyo Moon 한국산업응용수학회 2009 한국산업응용수학회 학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.5
The conventional offsets of a hypersurface such as a curve in the plane or a surface in the three dimensional space are defined by the parallel hypersurfaces of the given base hypersurface. Thus the conventional offsets are the collections of points which are equidistant from the base hypersurface. One popular and useful generalization of the conventional offset is the variable distance offset whose distance from the base hypersurface is given by a function of the points on the base hypersurface. We present the equivolumetric offsets as special types of variable distance offsets, which are characterized by the property that the volume between any domain on the base hypersurface and the corresponding equivolumetric offset is proportional to the volume of the domain. The proportionality constant is called the volumetric ratio. For the first instance, we introduce the equivolumetric offset curves which can be used as the tool-path for the 2-dimensional pocket machining with the constant material removal rate. We provide the explicit form of the distance function of the equivolumetric offsets for a given volumetric ratio. For the second case, we describe the equivolumetric offset surfaces together with the explicit expression of the distance function. Finally, we formulate the equivolumetric tubular solids which are the model of volume-preserving bend of cylinders.
