Fabrication and growth mechanism of ultra‑crystalline C60 on silicon substrate in vacuum

        Hongyu Wang,Ashutosh Rath,Shu Hearn Yu,Meng Seng Tan,Stephen J. Pennycook,Daniel H. C. Chua 한국탄소학회 2021 Carbon Letters Vol.31 No.2

We report a simple procedure to fabricate single crystals 3D C60 having an FCC structure on silicon substrates using a vapour–solid set-up in vacuum conditions. The morphology of the deposited film can be tuned by controlling the temperature and position of the substrate. The as-fabricated samples are extensively characterised by transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscope, X-ray powder diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and nanoindentation, which allow us to shed light on the recrystallization process of the C60. In addition, the growth mechanism of the formation of crystalline 3D structure of the C60 film is discussed in detail. Based on the newly gained knowledge of mechanism and its unique properties, fullerene has shown huge potential as a solid lubricant on various kinds of substrates.

Effect of surface quality on hydrogen/helium irradiation behavior in tungsten

        Hongyu Chen,Qiu Xu,Jiahuan Wang,Peng Li,Julong Yuan,Binghai Lyu,Jinhu Wang,Kazutoshi Tokunaga,Gang Yao,Laima Luo,Yucheng Wu 한국원자력학회 2022 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.54 No.6

As the plasma facing material in the nuclear fusion reactor, tungsten has to bear the irradiation impact ofhigh energy particles. The surface quality of tungsten may affect its irradiation resistance, and even affectthe service life of fusion reactor. In this paper, tungsten samples with different surface quality werepolished by mechanical processing, subsequently conducted by D2þ implantation and thermal desorption. D2þ implantation was performed at room temperature (RT) with the irradiation dose of 1 1021D2þ/m2 by 5 keV D2þ ions, and thermal desorption spectroscopy measurements were done from RT to900 K. In addition, He irradiation was also performed by 50 eV Heþ ions energy with the fluxes of5.5 1021 m2s1 and 1.5 1022 m2s1, respectively. Results reveal that the hydrogen/helium irradiation behavior are both related to surface quality. Samples with high surface quality has superior D2þretention behavior with less D2 retained after implantation. However, such samples are more likely togenerate fuzzes on the surface after helium irradiation. Different morphologies (smooth, wavy, pyramids)after helium irradiati

Analysis on thermal stress deformation of rotary air-preheater in a thermal power plant

        Hongyue Wang,Lingling Zhao,Zhigao Xu,Hyungtaek Kim 한국화학공학회 2009 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.26 No.3

Thermal stress deformation is a disadvantage of the rotary air preheater, which results in leakages of fluids and decrease of efficiency of the thermal system. To evaluate the results of deformation during its operation, the temperature distribution of storage materials is calculated by solving a simplified model. In this developed method, the effect of dimensionless parameters on the temperature distribution of rotary air preheater was investigated and compared with the results of modified heat transfer coefficient method. By solving coordination, structural and geometrical equations, and boundary condition in thermal-elastic theory, the thermal stress distributions in rotary air preheater are obtained in an analytical method. Experimental results are obtained by employing factorial design values of rotary air preheater for the validation of the calculation data. Good agreement has been yielded by comparing the analytical data and experimental data. Therefore, some conclusions necessary to undertake an adequate adjustment of thermal stress deformation have also been formulated, and online monitoring of the clearance of radial seals is proposed.

Molecular and Cellular Microbiology / Biomedical Sciences : Alteration of the Metabolome Profile in Endothelial Cells by Overexpression of miR-143/145

( Wenshuo Wang ),( Ye Yang ),( Yiqing Wang ),( Liewen Pang ),( Jiechun Huang ),( Hongyue Tao ),( Xiaotian Sun ),( Chen Liu ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2016 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.26 No.3

Communication between endothelial cells (ECs) and smooth muscle cells (SMCs) via miR-143/145 clusters is vital to vascular stability. Previous research demonstrates that miR-143/145 released from ECs can regulate SMC proliferation and migration. In addition, a recent study has found that SMCs also have the capability of manipulating EC function via miR-143/145. In the present study, we artificially increased the expression of miR-143/145 in ECs, to mimic a similar change caused by miR-143/145 released by SMCs, and applied untargeted metabolomics analysis, aimed at investigating the consequential effect of miR-143/145 overexpression. Our results showed that miR-143/145 overexpression alters the levels of metabolites involved in energy production, DNA methylation, and oxidative stress. These changed metabolites indicate that metabolic pathways, such as the SAM cycle and TCA cycle, exhibit significant differences from the norm with miR-143/145 overexpression.

Thermo-mechanical Behaviour of Soft Clay between Operation and Shutdown of Submarine Hot Oil Pipeline

        Kuanjun Wang,Hongwei Li,Kanmin Shen,Zhigang Shan,Weida Ni,Liuyuan Zhao,Hongyu Wang 대한토목학회 2023 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.27 No.6

The interaction between the pipeline and the surrounding soil is a critical factor in thebuckling analysis of the pipeline operating at high temperatures and pressures. The heatingpipeline alters the temperature and induces excess pore pressure in the surrounding soil, which in turn affects the mechanical properties of the soil. Therefore, a comprehensiveunderstanding of the thermo-mechanical response of the soil surrounding the pipeline duringoperation and shutdown is essential. To address this issue, this study developed a temperaturecontrolledpipe model test device that simulates the heating and cooling cycle of the pipe andthe temperature field and pore pressure response of the surrounding kaolin clay. The testresults showed that the soil temperature at the closest location to the pipe (0.1D) reached apeak value of approximately 48.7°C when the pipe was heated from 12.5°C to 55°C. Thepeak temperature decreased with increasing distance, reaching 22.5°C at 0.875D. Heattransfer analysis using ABAQUS software revealed that the influence range of the pipeline onthe soil temperature field during the heating cycle was about 2D. Additionally, a parametricstudy focused on the thermal conductivity (λsoil) of kaolin, and the best-fit value wasdetermined to be 0.6 W/(m·°C). The excess pore pressures were generated in the kaolinsurrounding the pipes during the heating cycle, and negative pore pressures were observedafter cooling cycle. Furthermore, a theoretical solution for calculating the thermally inducedpore pressure was derived, and preliminary verification showed good agreement between thetheoretically computed and experimentally measured results. These findings provide valuableinsights into the thermo-mechanical response of the soil surrounding pipelines duringoperation and shutdown, which can improve the design and safety of oil and gas pipelines.

Prognostic Value of TP53 Mutation for Transcatheter Arterial Chemoembolization Failure/Refractoriness in HBV-Related Advanced Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Miao Xue,Yanqin Wu,Wenzhe Fan,Jian Guo,Jialiang Wei,Hongyu Wang,Jizhou Tan,Yu Wang,Wang Yao,Yue Zhao,Jiaping Li 대한암학회 2020 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.52 No.3

Purpose This study aimed to investigate the clinicopathologic features and mutational landscape of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)–related advanced hepatocellular carcinomas (HCC) undergoing transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE). Materials and Methods From January 2017 to December 2018, 38 patients newly diagnosed with HBV-related advanced HCC were enrolled in the final analysis. Their pathological tissues and corresponding blood samples before TACE treatment were collected for whole-exome sequencing. Response to TACE was evaluated at 1-3 months after two consecutive use of TACE. Predictive factors were analyzed by univariate and multivariate analyses in a bivariate Logistic regression model. Enrichment of related pathways of all driver genes were acquired using the gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA). Results Among 38 patients, 23 (60.5%) exhibited TACE failure/refractoriness. Patients with TACE failure/refractoriness showed higher frequency of TP53 mutation than their counterparts (p=0.020). Univariate and multivariate analyses showed that only vascular invasion and TP53mutation were significantly correlated with TACE failure/refractoriness in HBV-related advanced HCC. Of the 16 patients without vascular invasion, eight (50.0%) had TP53 mutations, and TP53mutation was associated with TACE failure/refractoriness (p=0.041). Moreover, GSEA showed that mitogen-activated protein kinase and apoptosis pathways induced by TP53 mutation were possibly associated with TACE failure/refractoriness. Conclusion Our study suggested that TP53 mutation was independently related with TACE efficacy, which may work via mitogen-activated protein kinase and apoptosis pathways. These findings may provide evidence to help distinguish patients who will particularly benefit from TACE from those who require more personalized therapeutic regimens and rigorous surveillance in HBV-related advanced HCC.

      • Effect of kisspeptin on the proliferation and apoptosis of bovine granulosa cells

        Hongyu Liu,Myeong-Don Joo,Ji-Yoon Hwang,Ayman Mesalam,Jun Wang,Wenfa Lu,Il-Keun Kong 한국수정란이식학회 2018 한국수정란이식학회 학술대회 Vol.2018 No.11

Previous studies have shown that kisspeptin (Kp-10) is expressed in mammalian ovaries; however, the expression and role of Kp-10 in bovine ovarian granulosa cells are still unclear. In this study, we assessed the expression of Kp-10 and its effects on the proliferation and apoptosis of bovine granulosa cells. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that Kp-10 was expressed in the cytoplasm of bovine ovarian granulosa cells. Moreover, MTT (3-[4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl]-2,5-diphenyl-2- H-tetrazolium bromide) assays showed that 100 nM Kp-10 significantly inhibited the viability of granulosa cells (P<0.01). Flow cytometry analysis showed that Kp-10 could significantly increase accumulation of cells in the G1 phase, decrease accumulation of cells in the S phase, and promote apoptosis in bovine granulosa cells (P<0.05). Additionally, Kp-10 decreased the mRNA levels of Bcl-2, an anti-apoptotic gene; increased the mRNA levels of caspase-3, a pro-apoptotic gene; and increased the mRNA levels of Fas and Fasl, two membrane surface molecule genes (P<0.05). Thus, our findings demonstrated for the first time that Kp-10 inhibited proliferation and promoted apoptosis in bovine ovarian granulosa cells. These findings provide insights into our understanding of the role of Kp-10 in mediating the proliferation of bovine granulosa cells.

Comparative Analysis of Gut Microbial Communities in Children under 5 Years Old with Diarrhea

( Hongyu Wen ),( Xin Yin ),( Zhenya Yuan ),( Xiuying Wang ),( Siting Su ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2018 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.28 No.4

Diarrhea is a global disease with a high morbidity and mortality rate in children. In this study, 25 fecal samples were collected from children under 5 years old. Seven samples had been taken from healthy children without diarrhea and marked as the healthy control group; eight samples had been sampled from children with diarrhea caused by dyspepsia and defined as the non-infectious group; and ten samples had been taken from children with diarrhea induced by intestinal infections and identified as the infectious group. We detected the microbial communities of samples by using high-throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA genes. The proportion of aerobic and facultative anaerobic microbes in samples of the infectious group was much higher than in the non-infectious group. In addition, the relative abundance of Enterococcus in the healthy control group was significantly higher than in the non-infectious group and infectious group. This can be used as a potential diagnostic biomarker for diarrhea.
