Exact Sum-Rate Analysis of MIMO Broadcast Channels with Random Unitary Beamforming
Hong-Chuan Yang,Peng Lu,Hyung-Ki Sung,Young-Chai Ko IEEE 2011 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON COMMUNICATIONS Vol.59 No.11
<P>Random unitary beamforming (RUB) is an attractive transmission scheme for MIMO broadcast channels because of its ability to achieve high sum-rate capacity with limited feedback. In this letter, we derive the exact analytical expressions for the ergodic sum rate of MIMO broadcast channels with RUB. The analysis is facilitated by the development of the complete statistical characterization of ordered beam SINRs for a user, which can find their application in many related problems.</P>

A recombinant replication-defective adenovirus expressingthe major epitopes of porcine circovirus-2 (PCV-2) capsidprotein (rAd/Cap/518) was previously constructed and shownto induce mucosal immunity in mice following intranasaldelivery. In the present study, immune responses induced byintranasal immunization with a combination of rAd/Cap/518and cytosine-phosphate-guanosine oligodeoxynucleotides(CpG ODN) were evaluated in mice. The levels ofPCV-2-specific IgG in serum and IgA in saliva, lung, andintestinal fluids were significantly higher in the groupimmunized with rAd/Cap/518 and CpG ODN than animalsimmunized with rAd/Cap/518 alone. The frequencies ofIL-2-secreting CD4+ T cells and IFN-γ-producing CD8+ T cellswere significantly higher in the combined immunizationgroup than mice immunized with rAd/Cap/518 alone. Thefrequencies of CD3+, CD3+CD4+CD8−, and CD3+CD4−CD8+T cells in the combined immunization group were similar tothat treated with CpG ODN alone, but significantly higherthan mice that did not receive CpG ODN. PCV-2 load afterchallenge in the combined immunization group wassignificantly lower than that in the phosphate-buffered salineplacebo group and approximately 7-fold lower in the grouptreated with CpG ODN alone. These results indicate thatrAd/Cap/518 combined with CpG ODN can enhance systemicand local mucosal immunity in mice, and represent apromising synergetic mucosal vaccine against PCV-2.

At present, multiple myeloma (MM) remains an incurable disease and cologenic cells may be responsible for disease relapse. It has been proposed that CD20+/CD138- NCI-H929 cells could be hallmarks of MM clonogenic cells. Here, the immunology phenotype of NCI-H929 cells is described. Only a small population of CD20+/CD138- cells (<1%) was found in the NCI-H929 cell line, but CD20+/CD138- cells were not detected. We found that CD20+/CD138+ cells were able to exhibit cologenic capacity by colony formation assay and continuous passage culture. Proteins were analyzed by 1D-SDS-PAGE and TMT based quantitative differential liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). 1,082 non-redundant proteins were identified, 658 of which were differentially expressed with at least a 1.5-fold difference. 205 proteins in CD20+ cells were expressed at higher levels and 453 proteins were at lower levels compared with CD20- cells. Most proteins had catalytic and binding activity and mainly participated in metabolic processes, cell communication and molecular transport. These results proved that there are different biological features and protein expression profile between CD20+ and CD20- cells in the NCI-H929 cell line.
Generalized Area Spectral Efficiency of Wireless Ad-hoc Networks over Rayleigh Fading
Jun Zhu,Lei Zhang,Hong-Chuan Yang,Mazen O. Hasna 한국통신학회 2020 Journal of communications and networks Vol.22 No.4
Generalized area spectral efficiency (GASE) was introduced as a metric to quantify the spectral utilization efficiency ofwireless transmissions. Unlike other performance metrics, GASEtakes into account the spatial property of wireless transmissions. In this paper, we extend the research on GASE from link levelto network level. In particular, we consider a wireless ad-hoc network with Poisson distributed nodes. We take into account the cochannel interference and derive the generic closed-form momentgenerating function (MGF) expression of aggregate interferencein such network. With the interference statistics, we calculate theergodic capacity, affected area, and GASE of the network overRayleigh fading channels. Furthermore, we analyze the effect ofcarrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA)mechanism on the GASE performance of such network. Finally,we propose a new cognitive paradigm that allows the secondarytransmitters that are located outside the primary affected area totransmit. With this paradigm, we can achieve high ergodic capacitywhile effectively utilizing the space-spectrum resource of primarynetwork. Besides, through mathematical analysis and numericalexamples, we show that GASE provides a new perspective on transmission power selection and secondary network optimization.

<P>The joint statistics of partial sums of ordered random variables (RVs) are often needed for the accurate performance characterization of a wide variety of wireless communication systems. A unified analytical framework to determine the joint statistics of partial sums of ordered independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) random variables was recently presented. However, the identical distribution assumption may not be valid in several real-world applications. With this motivation in mind, we consider in this paper the more general case in which the random variables are independent but not necessarily identically distributed (i.n.d.). More specifically, we extend the previous analysis and introduce a new more general unified analytical framework to determine the joint statistics of partial sums of ordered i.n.d. RVs. Our mathematical formalism is illustrated with an application on the exact performance analysis of the capture probability of generalized selection combining (GSC)-based RAKE receivers operating over frequency-selective fading channels with a non-uniform power delay profile.</P>
Adaptive Modulation with Diversity Combining Based on Output-Threshold MRC
Young-Chai Ko,Hong-Chuan Yang,Seung-Sik Eom,Alouini, M.-S. IEEE 2007 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS Vol.6 No.10
<P>In this paper, we propose a combined adaptive modulation transmission and output threshold MRC diversity reception scheme for high spectral and power efficiency wireless transceiver design. The modulation constellation size and the number of combined diversity paths are jointly determined to achieve the highest spectral efficiency but with low combining complexity, given the fading channel conditions and the required error rate performance. We derive the statistics of the resulting output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and then use it to analyze the proposed system (i) performance in terms of outage probability and average bit error rate, (ii) complexity in terms of the average number of path estimation and the average number of combined paths, and (iii) spectral efficiency. Some selected numerical examples are finally presented and discussed to illustrate the tradeoff offered by this scheme.</P>

<P>In this paper, we investigate a relay enhanced cellular system, where a relay station is located in the overlap area served by two base stations. We propose cooperative joint precoding schemes for the downlink transmission of such relay enhanced cellular system to maximize the system capacity while minimizing the interference at both the relay station and the mobile stations. We formulate the optimization problems to maximize the system capacity and design the multiuser precoding vectors at each base station and the relay station. We quantify the ergodic rate performance of the proposed multiuser precoding schemes through statistical analysis. The extensively derived ergodic expressions will facilitate the accurate performance evaluation of the proposed transmission schemes. Numerical results show that the proposed schemes can effectively cancel the interference and improve the sum rate and the outage performance for cell edge users.</P>

Background/Aims: Although lipoprotein lipase (LPL) gene Pvu II polymorphism has been associated with an increased risk of hypertriglyceridemia (HT), there is no clear consensus within the scientific community. Methods: A meta-analysis of 1,640 subjects from six individual studies was conducted to better elucidate the potential relationship between the LPL gene Pvu II polymorphism and HT within the Chinese population. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) and their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were evaluated by using fixed effect models. Results: Our analysis indicated a significant association between LPL gene Pvu II polymorphism and HT within the Chinese population under allelic (OR, 1.550; 95% CI, 1.320 to 1.830; p = 1.158 × 10-7), recessive (OR, 0.540; 95% CI, 0.390 to 0.750; p = 0.0002), dominant (OR, 1.889; 95% CI, 1.501 to 2.377; p = 5.960 × 10-8), homozygous (OR, 2.167; 95% CI, 1.531 to 3.067; p = 1.242 × 10-5), heterozygous (OR, 1.810; 95% CI, 1.419 to 2.309; p = 1.842 × 10-6), and additive genetic models (OR, 1.553; 95% CI, 1.320 to 1.828; p = 1.158 × 10-7). Conclusions: Because LPL gene Pvu II restriction fragment length polymorphism polymorphism was associated with an elevated risk of HT, the P+ allele carriers of the LPL gene might be predisposed to HT.
