The Hin recombinase exists as a homodimer in solution and binds to its recombination site (hix) as a dimer (Glasgow, A. C., Bruist, M. F., and Simon M. I. (1989) J. Biol. Chem. 264, 10072-10082). Previous mutational and structural studies of related proteins suggested the location of a putative dimerization domain. In order to probe the function of this region of the protein, cysteine residuces were introduced at each of the seven positions comprising the domain. Proteins containing cysteine substitutions at positions 101 and 104 were able to form disulfide bonds spontaneously in crude extracts. M101C showed wild type inversion activity only if the cysteine residue was not engaged in a disulfide bond. This mutant, which is cross-linked by a disulfide bond at the dimeric interface, was found to be defective in the DNA cleavage step during inversion. H107C displayed the wild type DNA cleavage activity, even though its DNA binding activity was not detected by three different binding assays. This suggests that it maintains specificity for DNA binding but dissociates rapidly after binding. The remaining inversion-defective mutants fell into two groups. One group lost its capacity to specifically bind to DNA (G102C, F105C, and F106C), and the other group (R103C and F104C), while able to bind to DNA, was defective in subsequent steps of the inversion reaction. Characteristics of these mutants led me to postulate that movement of subunits at the dimerization interface is critical during DNA binding and during formation of the invertasome, which is the recombination structure. Furthermore, the relative position of subunits within the dimer may be important for maintaining stable DNA binding.

The equity of the public policy has recently emerged an important issue in the field of policies. The problem in the equity of the public policy is that the public policy target person(PPTP) don't accept straightly the equity of the public policy even if the public policy is absolutely equitable. The PPTP evaluates the equity of the public policy by scrutinizing his inputs-distributions ratio(distribution/input) and other person's one. This study is interested in the equity of the military system of R.O.K.. So this study applies the equity theory to this system. In conclusion, the common military service obligor in the present military service system is likely to have a perception of nonfavourable equity by comparison with others because there are many special cases in the present military service system. Therefore, the Office of Manpower Administration has to listen to the protest related to the equity of the military service, reappraise the present military service system, and make efforts to secure compliance with this system.

Cutting by a high speed laser cutting machine is one of most effective technologies to improve productivity. This paper has presented the cutting characteristics and optimal cutting conditions in a high speed feeding type laser cutting machine by using Tacuchi method in the design of experiment. An L9(34) orthogonal array is adopted to study the effect of adjustment parameters. The adjustment parameters consist of cutting speed, laser power, laser output duty and assistant gas pressure. The surface roughness of sheet metal is regarded as a quality feature. Analysis of variance is performed in order to evaluate the effect of adjustment parameters on the quality feature of laser cutting process.

Radiofrequency medial branch neurotomy is an effective way of controlling pain in the posterior compartment of the spine such as the facet joint, and the interspinous ligament. However, it is difficult to determine the exact location of the medial branch. Up until now we have relied on sensory response provoked by 50 Hz stimulation. The responses elicited using this method are quite subjective and can originate from sources other than the medial branch such as the periosteum, the intermediate or lateral branch. We need a confirmed indicator to locate the medial branch reliably. We applied 2 Hz stimulation under 0.4 volts to locate the medial branch and elicited a motor response. Twitching of multifidus and muscles around the SI joint was observed. The observation of these muscles provides a much more reliable method for confirmation of the medial branch. We have treated 45 chronic nonspecific low back pain patients using radiofrequency medial branch neurotomy with this method of confirming the medial branch.
Multicriteria Optimization of Spindle Units

The quality of precision spindle units (S/Us) running on rolling bearings depends strongly on their structural parameters, such as the configuration and geometry of the S/U elements and bearing preloads. When S/Us are designed, their parameters should be optimized to improve the performance characteristics. However, it is practically impossible to state perfectly a general criterion function for S/U quality. Therefore, we propose to use a multicriteria optimization based on the parameter space investigation (PSI) method We demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method using the optimization results of high-speed S/Us.
