The Quantitative Analysis of Listening Examination in Traditional Chinese Medicine
Chiu,Chuang-Chien,Chang,Hen-Hong,Yang,Chung-Hsien INSTITUTE OF ORIENTAL MEDICINE KYUNG-HEE UNIVERSIT 1999 JOURNAL OF ORIENTAL MEDICINE Vol.4 No.1
The goal of this work is to propose novel acoustic parameters of voice for the purpose of providing a quantitative analysis of auscultation in traditional Chinese medical diagnosis. There was rare amount of literatures being found related to this topic. Four novel voice parameters, which are the average number of zero-crossings, the variations on local peaks and valleys, the variations on first and second formant frequencies, and the spectral energy ratio, have been presented to analyze and identify the characteristics among the nonvacuity, qi-vacuity, and yin-vacuity subjects. Among these voice parameters, two temporal parameters, i.e., the average number of zero-crossings and the variations on local peaks and valleys, outperformed other parameters in classifying the deficient(either qi-vacuity of yin-vacuity) and non-vacuity subjects. On the other hand, the spectral energy ratio is good for the classification between qi-vacuity and yin-vacuity patients. This research is an early step in an ongoing effort to modernize the auscultation in traditional Chinese medical diagnosis.

We demonstrate the effect of surface chemical dynamics on carrier transport and recombination processes of electron–hole pairs in ZnO nanowire field effect transistors. We have found that the electrical conductance decreases and the threshold voltages shift in a positive gate voltage direction, as electrical characteristics are measured repeatedly. We associate this with the enhancement of oxygen adsorption by capturing electrons from the induced current during the probing. This results in an overall depletion of electrons and thus causes the positive shift in threshold voltages associated with the origin and width of characteristic hysteresis loops. In addition, the surface environment dependence of the photo-response related to a recombination process in ZnO nanowires is discussed in terms of the surface chemical reaction and band bending.

Field Emission Properties of -C:N Films Deposited on Diamond Substrates
Zong-Yi Qin,Pei-Nan Wang,Hong hen,Xuan-Tong Ying 한국물리학회 2005 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.46 No.2
Amorphous carbon-nitride films were grown on the nitridated diamond substrates by pulsed discharge of nitrogen gas by using graphite rods as the electrodes. The deposition parameters were optimized by monitoring the discharge plasma by optical-emission spectroscopy. It is demonstrated that the films were mainly a mixture of sp2 C-N, sp3 C-N and graphite nanocrystallites. Preliminary results show that deposited films have a cold-cathode-emission property. The threshold field for field emission is about 4.0 V/μm. The linear Fowler-Nordheim characteristic reveals that the fieldemission process is based on the tunneling mechanism.

Culinary department of college may gradually becoming up to the center of food science with the growing of the foodservice industry in the Korea. Espcailly, culinary department of hotel is expected to be the popular job by opening Cook Law. According to the change of perception on the culinary job, culinary department of college has to change from nonpopular department to popular department. From the view of these changes, this study analyzes the curriculum in culinary department of college which hotel and foodservice industry desire. curriculum in culinary department of college can be consist of various teaching objectives, teaching contents, and teaching styles. But curriculum must be consist of teaching objective, teaching content, and teaching style which hotel and foodservice industry desire. This study measured on the response of the hotel and foodservice industry on the curriculum in culinary department of A college. Based on the measuring, this study presented the suggestions on the curriculum as follows. First, to provide the information on the selection of new employee in the hotel and foodservice industry. Second, maintenance and inprovement of teaching objective, teaching content, and teaching style. Finally, on the basis of this study, the careful studies on the curriculum development in culinary department of college have to be followed in the future

Acute and chronic inflammation and dyslipidemia play a critical role in the development of various diseases, including cardiovascular disease. Green tea polyphenols possess potent antioxidative and anti-inflammatory properties that contribute to the beneficial effects on heart health. The present study was carried out to determine if administration of a green tea extract (Polyphenon E [PPE]; Mitsui Norin Co., Ltd., Tokyo, Japan) at 0.2% in the diet reduces cardiovascular risk factors, including dyslipidemia, inflammation, adiposity, and oxidative stress, in rats fed an atherogenic (high fat, cholesterol, and sugar) diet with dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) in drinking water. DSS treatment increased serum total cholesterol, lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol, C-reactive proteins (CRP), and markers of liver toxicity and decreased high-density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol significantly. Adding PPE to the atherogenic diet (PPE-diet) was associated with lower total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol (P < .001) and increased HDL-cholesterol (P = .001). In addition, the PPE-diet was associated with decreased serum CRP concentration (P = .023) and increased total antioxidant capacity (P = .016) and catalase (P = .001)and glutathione peroxidase (P = .050) activities. The PPE-diet significantly lowered epididymal fat pad weight (P = .009). Feeding the PPE-diet also ameliorated some of the DSS-induced lipid, inflammatory, and oxidative symptoms. In summary, green tea supplementation decreased several cardiovascular risk factors, including body composition, dyslipidemia, inflammatory status, and antioxidant capacity, in rats fed an atherogenic diet. This study supports green tea as an effective dietary component for sustaining cardiovascular health.
Moscatilin Induces Apoptosis and Mitotic Catastrophe in Human Esophageal Cancer Cells
Chien-An Chen,Chien-Chih Chen,Chien-Chang Shen,Hen-Hong Chang,Yu-Jen Chen 한국식품영양과학회 2013 Journal of medicinal food Vol.16 No.10
Moscatilin, a bibenzyl derivative from the orchid Dendrobium loddigesii, has been shown to possess anticancer activity. We examined the effect of moscatilin on human esophageal cancer cells, including squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (ADC) cells and its possible mechanisms. Moscatilin suppressed the growth of both the histological cell lines in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Morphological changes indicative of apoptosis and mitotic catastrophe were observed following moscatilin treatment. The population of cells in the sub-G1 phase and polyploidy phase significantly increased after treatment. Immunofluorescence revealed multipolar mitosis and subsequent multinucleation in moscatilin-treated cells, indicating the development of mitotic catastrophe. Western blot showed a marked increase in expressions of polo-like kinase 1 and cyclin B1 after exposure to moscatilin. In conclusion, moscatilin inhibits growth and induces apoptosis and mitotic catastrophe in human esophageal SCC- and ADC-derived cell lines, indicating that moscatilin has broad potential against esophageal cancer
