HeeSuk Jung,HyoJoon Kim,문성용 조선대학교 치의학연구원 2018 Oral Biology Research (Oral Biol Res) Vol.42 No.4

Standard oral and maxillofacial three-dimensional model was developed with patients’ medical data while virtual reality (VR)simulator was developed in conjunction with head mount display (HMD) and Haptic device. The objective of this study was to evaluatethe preclinical use of a VR training simulator in tooth preparation practice. Eighty-nine dental students were trained how to operatethe simulator. The participants were then given sufficient time on the simulator to practice dental preparation. The students experienceand opinion was then taken in through filling of questionnaires. On average content received 1.8 points, anatomy had 2.5 points, 2.6points for the applicability, and 2.0 for the usability. As for the detailed items scores, queries about the possible development of thesimulator and the interest of the learning process through the simulator were the highest at 3.1 and 3.0 points, respectively. Questionabout the benefit of the HMD and the haptic device during the practice had 1.5 and 1.6 points, respectively. The average total score was2.2 points. VR tooth preparation simulator in the field of clinical dental education has powerful potential in regard to realistic models, environments, vision, posture, and economical efficiency.

      • Comparison of clinical characteristics between women with primary and recurrent endometriosis

( Heesuk Chae ),( Suhyun Oh ),( Sunyoung Kim ),( Jonghyun Kim ),( Chulhee Rheu ) 대한산부인과학회 2018 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.104 No.-

Objective: To compare the clinical characteristics between women with primary and recurrent ovarian endometriomas. Methods: A total of 43 women who had undergone surgery for ovarian endometrioma from January 2017 through December 2017; 37 primary surgeries (group PS) and 6 reoperations for recurrent endometriomas (group RS). Age, CA125, AMH, intraoperative blood loss, surgical findings, the revised American Society for Reproductive Medicine (rASRM) score were reviewed. Results: Although the differences were not statistically significant, compared with patients of the group PS, the patients of the group RS were slightly older (40.83 ± 2.68 vs. 34.97 ± 1.46, p = 0.13) and rASRM score was higher (100 ± 33.32 vs. 69.19 ± 39.37, p = 0.078) and the change of hemoglobin level was higher (17 ± 3.74 vs. 11.28 ± 1.17, p = 0.087). Furthermore, the patients of the group RS showed significantly higher incidence of the involvement of mesosalpinx when compared with the group PS (100 vs. 35.1%, p = 0.004). In groups PS vs RS, respectively, there were significantly differences between the groups: the preoperative serum anti-Mllerian hormone (AMH) levels 2.71 ± 0.39 vs. 0.75 ± 0.12, p <0.001); the postoperative serum AMH levels 1.56 ± 0.27 vs. 0.16 ± 0.11, p <0.001); the rate of drop in the serum AMH levels 88.43 ± 10.32 vs. 48.8 ± 4.98%, p = 0.025. Conclusion: This study indicates that repetitive surgery for recurrent endometriosis may be associated with increased risk of post-surgical ovarian failure following surgery. Probably because the involvement of mesosalpinx associated with serious adhesion is more common in patients with recurrent endometriosis.

      • Coexistence of endometriosis in women with mature cystic ovarian teratoma - a report of 11 cases

( Heesuk Chae ),( Ahreum Hong ),( Chulhee Rheu ) 대한산부인과학회 2018 대한산부인과학회 학술대회 Vol.104 No.-

Objective: To investigate the incidence of endometriosis in women with mature cystic ovarian teratoma and to analyse the clinicopathologic features in this case series. Methods: A total of 27 women who had undergone surgery for mature cystic ovarian teratoma; 11 patients with teratoma (teratoma group) and 11 patients with coexistence of endometriosis and mature cystic ovarian teratoma (complex group). Cyst enucleation of mature cystic ovarian teratoma was performed from January 2017 through December 2017. Age, CA125, CA19-9, AMH, surgical findings, disease stage according to the revised American Society for Reproductive Medicine score, type of pain symptoms, and pathology were reviewed. Results: Coexistence of endometriosis and mature cystic ovarian teratoma were present in 11 patients (40.74% of the entire cohort). Early stage endometriosis (stage I or II) was present in 8 patients and advanced stage endometriosis (stage III or IV) in 3. In 2 cases (7.41% of the entire cohort), coexistence of endometrioma and mature cystic teratoma in the same ovary was observed. The mean operation time was significantly shorter in the teratoma group than in the complex group (56.75 ± 29.33 vs. 91.18 ± 42.77 min, p = 0.034). The women of the complex group compared with the teratoma group had more dysmenorrhea (54.5% vs. 6.2%, p = 0.018). The rate of drop in the serum anti-Mllerian hormone (AMH) levels was higher in the complex group than the teratoma group (37.35 ± 26.08 vs. 13.65 ± 30.52%, p = 0.065) but not statistically significant. Conclusion: The prevalence of coexistence of endometriosis and mature cystic ovarian teratoma seems to be underestimated. This study shows a novel insight into the understanding of the clinicopathologic features of such a rare concurrence of mature cystic ovarian teratoma and endometriosis.

Optical Coherence Tomography Measurement and Visual Outcome in Acute Central Retinal Artery Occlusion

Heesuk Kim,Hong Kyu Kim,Jong Yun Yang,Sung Soo Kim 대한안과학회 2018 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.32 No.4

Purpose: This study investigated visual acuity (VA) values and differences depending on optical coherence tomography(OCT) findings in patients with acute central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO). Methods: A retrospective chart review was performed on patients with acute CRAO who underwent macular and disc OCT. We evaluated changes in macular thickness and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness after acute CRAO onset based on OCT. We also determined the association of thickness changes with VA improvement. Results: This study involved both eyes in a total of 12 patients with acute CRAO. A significant increase was observed in foveal (1 mm) thickness (p = 0.002), parafoveal (3 mm) thickness (p = 0.002), and peripapillary RNFL thickness (p = 0.005) in affected eyes with CRAO, but not in central foveal thickness (p = 0.266). A significant small difference in both eyes (affected eye – fellow eye) was shown in foveal (1 mm) and mean parafoveal (3 mm) thickness in the improved VA group (p = 0.008 and p = 0.004, respectively), but not in central foveal or peripapillary RNFL thickness (both p = 0.283). Conclusions: Both macular and RNFL thickness increased in patients with acute CRAO. RNFL thickness decreased over time with progression of RNFL atrophy. Less macular damage caused by acute CRAO could be predicted by a small difference in macular thickness between eyes (affected eye – fellow eye). In such cases, patients had a greater chance of VA improvement.

      • Rational Design of Hybrid Materials for Flexible/or Stretchable Thermoelectric Devices

Heesuk Kim(김희숙) 한국고분자학회 2021 한국고분자학회 학술대회 연구논문 초록집 Vol.46 No.1

As the practical demand for flexible power-conversion devices increases, the development of high-performance alternatives to brittle inorganic thermoelectric (TE) materials is essential. Flexible TE generators enable conformal contact with heat sources of arbitrary shape such as the human body, which offers an opportunity to realize self-powered wearable applications. Organic polymers, nano-carbons, and their hybrid materials have been investigated as possible alternatives for flexible TE materials due to their well-known advantages including flexibility, light-weight, and easy processability. Among them, the hybrid materials have great potential for use in flexible TE materials because of their high electrical conductivities and controllable Seebeck coefficients. Herein, we show the rationally designed flexible hybrid-materials with excellent TE performance. The strategy proposed here shows great potential for the preparation of flexible/or stretchable power-conversion devices.

285 mJ Electro-optically 𝚀-switched Er:YAG Master Oscillator Power Amplifier (MOPA) System with Adjustable Pumping Delay between Flashlamps at 2.94 ㎛

Heesuk Jang,Hajun Song,Hae Seog Koh,Han Young Ryu Optical Society of Korea 2023 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.7 No.3

In this paper, we demonstrated a high-energy (285 mJ) mid-infrared flashlamp-pumped electro-optically 𝚀-switched Er:YAG master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) system and comprehensively investigated its temporal, spectral, and spatial characteristics. To increase the output energy, we optimized the delay between the timings at which the flashlamps of the master oscillator and power amplifier were triggered. In addition, the output energy was improved while minimizing thermal effects by cooling the MOPA system to a temperature slightly above the dew point. Consequently, the MOPA structure boosted the output energy without damaging the lithium niobate Pockels cell, which is a crucial element in 𝚀-switching. This design realized pulses with energies up to 0.285 J and pulse durations of approximately 140 ns at a wavelength of 2,936.7 nm. This high-energy mid-IR Er:YAG MOPA system can be used for various scientific, engineering, and military underwater applications.

      • A Literary Analysis of Proverbs 10 in view of the Hermeneutical Framework of the Book of Proverbs

Heesuk Kim Presbyterian General Assembly Theological Seminary 2016 CHONGSHIN THEOLOGICAL JOURNAL Vol.21 No.-

This article purports to perform a literary, hermeneutical analysis of Proverbs 10. In the first half of Proverbs 10, two sets of contrast are obviously made: one between wisdom and folly and the other between righteousness and wickedness. Then these two sets are placed in a close relationship in vv. 6-12. Though they are juxtaposed, they are not understood as conceptually interrelated. Then, v. 21 connects righteousness with foolishness, trying to intermix the two sets of contrast. This is where the mention of YHWH begins to contribute in v. 22, with theological nuance that sheds light on the literary flow. Finally, v. 27 mentions the fear of YHWH and v. 31 connects wisdom with righteousness, suggesting a possibility that the readers of Proverbs 10 should look at the two sets of contrast from one, same perspective, which is to be theological. When viewed from the perspective of Proverbs 1-9, the fear of YHWH leads to wisdom, and thereby the wisdom leads to righteousness. Explained by the idea of Proverbs 10, righteousness proves the genuineness of wisdom. As Proverbs 1-9 avows that possession of wisdom will result in production of righteousness, Proverbs 10 in return posits that practice of righteousness will result in approval of wisdom in everyday life situations.
