The Role of People, Information, and Technology in LIS Education: Driving a Call for Action Towards the UN 2030 Agenda

Around the world, public access to information plays a crucial role in improving lives and facilitating development. People, technology, and information, which also represent common themes of i-Schools, are deemed relevant in adapting to these global challenges. The main purpose of this research is to identify the orientation of curriculums in LIS Schools in South Korea toward technology, information, and people for graduate schools of library and information science. This research also correlates the directions of the schools with the UN 2030 Agenda. Using the Wilson model, this study examines the orientation of courses offered. The result of classification and content analysis revealed that courses offered are leaning towards technology and information content. Courses reviewed in the light of developing knowledge and skills of information professionals to facilitate the fulfillment of global goals can make libraries more responsive to the changing times.

고령층의 인구통계학적 특성에 따른 정보이용행태 분석

본 연구는 우리나라 고령층의 인구통계학적 특성에 따른 정보이용행태 차이를 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 연구목적을 달성하기 위하여 대구 및 대구근교에 거주하고 있는 60세 이상을 연구대상으로 자체 개발한 설문지를 이용해 데이터를 수집하였다. 설문지는 응답자의 인구통계학적 특성에 관한 문항과 정보기기 사용시간에 관한 질문 8문항, 정보콘텐츠 이용시간에 관한 질문 8문항, 그리고 정보활동 참여시간에 관한 질문 16문항 등으로 이루어졌다. 수집된 데이터는 SPSS Ver. 21을 사용하여 분석하였다. 분석결과 성별에 따라 정보활동 참여시간에 차이가 나타났으며, 학력 수준이 높을수록 정보기기와 정보콘텐츠의 사용시간이 길었고 정보활동에도 더 많은 시간을 할애하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 이들의 경제상태에 따른 정보기기 사용시간에도 차이가 나타났다. 하지만 건강상태에 따른 정보이용행태는 유의한 차이를 보이지 않았다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the older adults’ information behaviors focused on their demographic characteristics. For this study, data were collected from over 60 years old elderly who live in Daegu and near Daegu city using a questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of the demographic information, the device use time, the contents use time, and the information activities time. Collected data were analysed using IBM SPSS Statistical package version 21. The result revealed that (1) there exist the gender differences in their information activities time; (2) there exist the academic career differences in their information device use time, in their information contents use time, and in their information activities time, respectively; (3) there exist economical condition differences in their information device use time. (4) However, their physical conditions haven’t effect on any of their information behaviour in this study.

An Analysis of Research Trends on the Metaverse Using BERTopic Modeling

Research on the metaverse has experienced significant growth in recent years, driven by advancements in technology, the thriving gaming industry, the expansion of social media and virtual communities, economic prospects, and the captivating vision of a new digital interface that transcends the current internet environment. To uncover research themes within the metaverse, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of research trends in this field using publications from Scopus, a widely recognized and extensively utilized scholarly database. Employing BERTopic, an advanced topic modeling technique, we analyzed 2,181 research articles focused on the metaverse. The exploration of the metaverse had humble beginnings with a single publication in 1995 but saw a substantial increase after 2020, reaching explosive growth with 1,041 publications in 2022. The application of the BERTopic model revealed 12 primary topics, each associated with significant keywords. These main topics encompass education, healthcare, blockchain, conferences, fashion, NFTs, cybersecurity, web3, research, video streaming, tinyML, and industry. Notably, among these subjects, education, healthcare, and blockchain exhibit significant research activity. In light of the global concern over the digital divide, we conducted investigations focusing on case studies involving digitally disadvantaged groups, such as individuals with visual impairments and the elderly. However, it is noteworthy that we identified only five studies addressing this issue, indicating limited research presence in this crucial area.

국내 디지털 도서관 연구 동향 분석

본 연구의 목적은 국내 디지털 도서관 관련된 연구의 동향을 분석하는 것이다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 국내 문헌정보학 분야 대표 학술지 4종으로부터 최근 10년(2007년-2016년) 동안 발표된 디지털 도서관 관련 논문 272편을 대상으로 해당 논문의 저자가 직접 부여한 영문키워드 578개를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 NetMiner V.4를 사용하여 연결중심성과 매개중심성을 분석하였다. 연구 결과로는, 첫째, 연구 주제의 양적인 측면에서는 'Academic Library', 'Reference Service', 'Public Library', 'E Resource', 'E Book' 순으로 나타났고, 둘째, 연구 주제의 영향력 측면에서는, 'Academic Library', 'Reference Service', 'Information Behavior', 'E Resource' 등의 순으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 연구주제의 확장성 측면에서는, 'Academic Library', 'Metadata', 'Information Behavior', 'E Resource', 'Librarian' 등의 순으로 파악되었다. The aim of this study was to analyze the research trends on the digital libraries in Korea. To achieve this objective, a total of 578 author-assigned English keywords were collected from the 272 major LIS journal articles published in Korea during last ten years-period, i.e., 2007-2016. The collected data were analyzed using NetMiner V.4 to discover their 'degree centrality' and 'betweenness centrality'. As the results, 'Academic Library', 'Reference Service', 'Public Library', 'E Resource', and 'E Book' showed the most frequently conducted research topics, and 'Academic Library', 'Reference Service', 'Information Behavior', and 'E Resource' were the most influencing research topics. Finally, 'Academic Library', 'Metadata', 'Information Behavior', 'E Resource', and 'Librarian' seemed the most widely intervening research topics in this research.

실버세대의 정보 활용능력이 삶의 행복감에 미치는 영향 분석

본 연구의 목적은 실버세대의 정보 활용능력, 생활 만족도, 그리고 삶의 행복감 간의 인과 관계를 밝히고, 아울러 고령화와 정보화 시대에서 실버세대가 행복한 삶을 영위할 수 있는 방향을 제시하는데 있다. 이를 위해 대구·경북지역의 인터넷 정보활동을 하고 있는 노인을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시한 후 238개의 유효표본을 분석하였다. 실버세대의 정보 활용능력과 삶의 행복감의 관계 및 생활만족도의 매개효과를 분석한 결과, 생활만족도가 정보 활용능력과 삶의 행복감 관계를 완전 매개하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 향후 연구에 고려되어야 하는 시사점들에 대해 논의하였다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship of information literacy, life satisfaction, and life happiness of the silver generation, and to suggest the direction for their happy life. We conducted a questionnaire survey targeted at the Internet users of over 60 years old adults living in Daegu/Gyongbuk areas. Data were analyzed using 238 valid samples. With the results, it revealed that the silver generations’ life satisfaction fully mediates the relationship between their information literacy and their life happiness. Future studies are also discussed in this paper.

대학생층과 비교를 통한 고령층의 모바일기반 정보행위 분석

본 연구의 목적은 고령층의 모바일기반의 정보행위를 정보활동이 가장 왕성한 계층중의 하나인 대학생과 비교분석을 통하여 파악하고 동시에 이들의 정보격차해소를 위한 기초적인 방안을 모색하는 것이다. 연구의 목적을 위하여 자체 개발한 설문지를 사용하여 대구 경북지역에 거주하는 60세 이상 고령층과 이 지역에 거주하는 대학생을 대상으로 설문을 실시하였다. 회수된 설문지중 불성실하게 응답한 경우를 제외한 고령층 375명과 대학생 323명의 데이터를 카이제곱검정과 독립표본 t-검정으로 분석하였다. 분석결과 두 집단 모두 경제 상태에 따른 모바일기기 보유여부에는 차이가 없었으며, 이들 두 집단이 모바일기반의 정보행위를 하는 첫 번째 이유는 여가를 위한 것으로 나타났다. 한편 고령층은 모바일기기의 활용교육 확대를 통하여, 대학생층은 무상 혹은 저가 모바일기기의 보급을 통하여 정보활용 애로사항을 해소할 수 있다고 밝혔다. 더불어 다양한 연구결과를 표와 그림과 함께 제시하였다. The purpose of this study is to discover the mobile-based information behaviors of the older adults with comparison of the college students and then to provide some fundamental ideas of the bridging digital devide for them. For this aims, data were collected from seniors and college students living in Daegu and Kyung-buk province via a self-designed questionnaire, and the data of 375 seniors and 323 college students were analysed with $x^2$ and t-test using SPSS. It revealed that the economic condition did not influence in the possession of mobile devices, and for leisure was most favorite activity in both groups. However, the college student group suggested the supply of free or low price mobile device; whereas the older adults group suggested the spread of education of mobile device usage would be the most important matter for bridging the digital devide. Various results of the study were presented with tables and figures in this paper.

실버세대가 지각하는 삶의 행복감과 만족감이 인터넷 이용의지에 미치는 영향

This study investigated the impact of silver generation’s life happiness and satisfaction on the perceived usefulness and the willingness to use internet, aimed at seniors living in Daegu/Gyongbuk area. The ratio of seniors is increasing rapidly and the ICT(Information and Communication Technology) develops at a great speed. However, senior’s ability to adapt new life surrounded by ICT is not fast enough to catch it"s development speed. Based on this reason, this study focused on which factors affect on the willingness to use internet. The result of this study showed that the happiness and life satisfaction of seniors influenced the perceived usefulness significantly. In addition the perceived usefulness affected on the senior’s willingness to use internet. This result implied that senior"s happiness and life satisfaction plays an important role on their willingness to use internet.
