Comparison of Four Point-of-Care Devices for Pregnancy Test in Urine

Point-of-care (POC) tests for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) are widely used in hospital laboratories. However, there is a lack of comparative studies focusing on pregnancy POC devices that test urine. In this study, we aimed to evaluate four commonly used pregnancy POC devices in Korea. From March to May 2023, remnant clinical urine samples were collected from 200 patients, consisting of 100 confirmed pregnant women and 100 nonpregnant women. The evaluated devices included the AllCheck hCG Card (Calth, Korea), Card ASAN Easy Test hCG (Asanpharm., Korea), Humasis hCG Card (Humasis, Korea), and careUS BEBE-CHECK (Wells bio, Korea). Among the four pregnancy POC devices, we observed a 99% negative percent agreement and 97% positive percent agreement. Only four samples showed discrepancies in results, which could be attributed to early pregnancy and abortion. Overall, the hCG POC devices assessed in this study demonstrated high concordance rates. However, we must be careful when interpreting urine pregnancy test results, particularly in cases involving early pregnancy or abortion.
microRNA-200a-3p enhances mitochondrial elongation by targeting mitochondrial fission factor

Mitochondria play pivotal roles in the ATP production, apoptosis and generation of reactive oxygen species. Although dynamic regulation of mitochondria morphology is a critical step to maintain cellular homeostasis, the regulatory mechanisms are not yet fully elucidated. In this study, we identified miR-200a-3p as a novel regulator of mitochondrial dynamics by targeting mitochondrial fission factor (MFF). We demonstrated that the ectopic expression of miR-200a-3p enhanced mitochondrial elongation, mitochondrial ATP synthesis, mitochondrial membrane potential and oxygen consumption rate. These results indicate that miR-200a-3p positively regulates mitochondrial elongation by downregulating MFF expression. [BMB Reports 2017; 50(4): 214-219]

가짜뉴스가 사회연결망 상에서 빠르게 전파되면서 사회적 혼란을 야기하고 있어 가짜뉴스를 탐지하는 것이 중요한 문제로 대두되고 있다. 최근 가짜뉴스 탐지 연구에서 사회연결망의 전파 정보를 활용한 방법이 기존 뉴스 컨텐츠 기반 가짜뉴스 탐지 방법보다 효과적임을 보였다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 기존 CoAID 데이터셋을 기반으로 사회연결망상의 전파 데이터를 포함하는 COVID-19 Cascade 데이터셋을 소개한다. COVID-19 Cascade 를 활용하면 전파 기반 가짜뉴스 탐지 방법에도 적용이 가능하다. 이후 간단한 분석을 통해 진짜뉴스와 가짜뉴스의 차이를 확인한다.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Objective</B></P> <P>The purpose of this study was to correlate the CT imaging features and histopathological findings of pleomorphic adenomas (PA), and also try to identify its clinical significance.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>Totally 262 PAs in the parotid gland including 18 recurrent cases were retrospectively reviewed with preoperative CT and pathologic slides. Each pathologic slide was reviewed by two pathologists to calculate mean value of epithelial/mesenchymal component, and the results were correlated with features of CT scans.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>PAs showing high contrast enhancement were correlated with high proportion of epithelial components in histopathologic findings. PAs with smooth border tend to have high proportion of epithelial components. The margin on CT imaging did not consisted with pathologic margin of resected specimens. In recurrent PAs, there was a significant difference on CT contrast enhancement, not in proportion of epithelial component.</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>The histopathology and CT imaging features of PAs were variable, but we can find the correlation of epithelial component and CT contrast enhancement. Further large scale study would be expected to identify the clinical significance of CT imaging features and histopathologic findings of PAs.</P>

<▼1><P>Excessive mitochondrial fission is associated with the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases. Dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1) possesses specific fission activity in the mitochondria and peroxisomes. Various post-translational modifications of Drp1 are known to modulate complex mitochondrial dynamics. However, the post-transcriptional regulation of Drp1 remains poorly understood. Here, we show that the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A1 (hnRNP A1) regulates Drp1 expression at the post-transcriptional level. hnRNP A1 directly interacts with Drp1 mRNA at its 3′UTR region, and enhances translation potential without affecting mRNA stability. Down-regulation of hnRNP A1 induces mitochondrial elongation by reducing Drp1 expression. Moreover, depletion of hnRNP A1 suppresses 3-NP-mediated mitochondrial fission and dysfunction. In contrast, over-expression of hnRNP A1 promotes mitochondrial fragmentation by increasing Drp1 expression. Additionally, hnRNP A1 significantly exacerbates 3-NP-induced mitochondrial dysfunction and cell death in neuroblastoma cells. Interestingly, treatment with 3-NP induces subcellular translocation of hnRNP A1 from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, which accelerates the increase in Drp1 expression in hnRNP A1 over-expressing cells. 본 연구의 목적은 형제간 갈등의 특성- 갈등 발생의 빈도, 출생순위에 따른 해결전략, 갈등의 종결- 을 살펴보는 것이었다. 연구대상은 다양한 성으로 구성된 4- 7세 형제 51쌍이었다. 형제들이 갈등 발생 확률이 높은 4가지 과제를 함께 수행하는 동안 발생한 갈등을 관찰하고 비디오 촬영하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 첫째, 형제간 갈등발생 비율은 형제의 성별구성에 따라 차이가 있었다. 둘째, 갈등해결 전략도 출생순위에 따라 달라 윗형제는 건설적인 전략을 사용하는 반면 아래형제는 부정적 전략을 사용하였다. 셋째, 형제간 갈등은 한 형제가 다른 형제에게 복종하므로써 종결되는 경우가 많았다. The purpose of this study was to examine the processes of sibling conflict s. The subjects of this study were 51 sibling pairs whose ages were between four and seven. The siblings were asked to complete 4 tasks together and the conflict s occurring during the tasks were observed. The results of the study can be summarized as follows: First, sibling conflict s were observed most frequently in the male- girl siblings. Second, the strategies used by a sibling were related to the strategies employed by the other sibling. Third, the sibling conflicts were more or less resolved when submission was admitted by one party. Desirable directions for parental intervention in sibling conflict s are discussed.

The event data recorders (EDR) have been used as a device to help understand traffic accidents. With the recent development of autonomous vehicle (AV), it has become important to prepare the new EDR for AV. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose the direction of EDR-AV recording. First of all, the recent EDR data elements and the data elements of AV under discussion at UNECE WP29 EDR/DSSAD (Data Storage System for Automated Driving) were analyzed. The consumer complaint database in Motor Vehicle Recall Center in Korea was analyzed in order to utilize cases of domestic traffic accidents related to advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Consequently, problems with existing EDR were identified through unclear accident cases related to ADAS. In the future, it was proposed to record images in which the ADAS perception systems recognize the surroundings of the accident site as an EDR-AV recording item.
