      • Correlates of Creativity among Visual Art Students

        The present study analyzes differences in functional creativity among visual art students in their year of assessment, according to the Revised Functional Creativity Scale (Haller, Courvoisier, & Cropley, 2009) originally published by Cropley (2005). The products of 55 art students of two different schools were rated by ten experts (five art instructors at each school) according to their usual grading criteria. The same experts plus five novices then completed a questionnaire developed according to the indicators of creativity spelled out in this paper. Furthermore personality profiles, thinking styles, complexity, and intelligence of the students were measured with the German version of the NEO-Five-Factor-Inventory (NEO-FFI) of Costa and McCrae (1992), by Borkenau and Ostendorf (1993), the Heuristic questionnaire of Groner and Groner (1990), and the Standard Progressive Matrices (SPM) sets A, B, C, D and E of Raven (1976). Results showed that there are personality profiles, thinking styles, and complexities which can be seen as predictors of functional creativity. However, different predictors were significant for different groups (all raters, expert raters only, novice raters only). The results show that the Revised Functional Creativity Scale as applied by Haller, Courvoisier, and Cropley (2009) does not yet measure functional creativity with the necessary degree of objectivity.

        <P></P> <P>The CCAUV.U-K3.1 is a follow-up of the comparison CCAUV.U-K3 which was the third key comparison in the ultrasound branch organised under the auspices of the Consultative Committee for Acoustics, Ultrasound and Vibration (CCAUV) of the BIPM. It was necessary to allow participants with discrepant values and additional laboratories to have another possibility to take part in an international comparison and to test their measurement facilities. The comparison dealt with power measurement in the frequency range 2 to 10.5 MHz and a power range between 10 mW and 15 W.         Protection at Stake

        When it comes to trade policy, there is a frequent inherent conflict between domestic producers and domestic consumers. Increased imports cause a downward pressure on domestic prices and, hence, improve domestic consumer welfare while diluting domestic producer profits. Here the implications of an import quota in an oligopolistic market a la Cournot are examined. In a lobbying contest between the two interest groups, consumers and producers, their relative political contributions determine the probabilities of the policy-maker choosing their respective bliss points: free trade or autarky. We find that as the number of foreign competitors in the domestic market increases, the policymaker receives more contributions and the probability of winning shifts in favor of domestic consumers.

        More Intra-Region Direct Investment through Economic Integration? Modelling the Experience of the EU`s Single Market

        I apply the fixed versus variable cost trade-off associated with a multinational firm`s choice between investing abroad and exporting to a setting where the multinational is located inside an economically integrating region. I find that reducing obstacles to investment unambiguously favours setting up plants. When trade barriers decrease, typically, there will be consolidation of investment or a switch to exports. If, however, distance to destination markets matters for the multinational, export platform investment in one country will be induced. This highlights that export platform investment may be a supply option even inside an integrating region once countries are not assumed to be homogenous. Overall, the predictions of the model are indicative of some of the developments in trade and direct investment among EU countries during the Single Market Programme.

        Numerical analysis of plasma-sprayed ceramic coatings for high-temperature applications

        The finite element method is employed in conjunction with micromechanical modelling in order to assess the performance of ceramic thermal barrier coatings applied to structural components. The study comprises the conditions of the deposition of the coating by plasma spraying as well as the thermal cycling of the coated component, and it addresses particularly turbine blades. They are exposed to high temperature changes strongly influencing the behaviour of the core material and inducing damage in the ceramic material by intense straining. A concept of failure analysis is discussed starting from distributed microcracking in the ceramic material, progressing to the formation of macroscopic crack patterns and examining their potential for propagation across the coating. The theory is in good agreement with experimental observations, and may therefore be utilized in proposing improvements for a delayed initiation of failure, thus increasing the lifetime of components with ceramic thermal barrier coatings.

        Implementation and evaluation of a novel subspecialty society fellows robotic surgical course: the SGO minimally invasive academy surgical curriculum

        Objective: To evaluate the utility of a society-based robotic surgery training program forfellows in gynecologic oncology. Methods: All participants underwent a 2-day robotic surgery training course between2015–2017. The course included interactive didactic sessions with video, dry labs, androbotic cadaver labs. The labs encompassed a wide range of subject matter includingtroubleshooting, instrument variation, radical hysterectomies, and lymph node dissections. Participants completed a pre- and post-course survey using a 5-point Likert scale rangingfrom “not confident” to “extremely confident” on various measures. Statistical analysis wasperformed using SPSS Statistics v. 24. Results: The response rate was high with 86% of the 70 participants completing the survey. Sixteen (26.7%) of these individuals were attending physicians and 44 (73.3%) were fellows. In general, there was a significant increase in confidence in more complex proceduresand concepts such as radical hysterectomy (p=0.01), lymph node dissection (p=0.01),troubleshooting (p=0.001), and managing complications (p=0.004). Faculty comfort andpractice patterns were cited as the primary reason (58.9%) for limitations during roboticprocedures followed secondarily by surgical resources (34.0%). Conclusion: In both gynecologic oncology fellows and attendings, this educational theory based curriculum significantly improved confidence in the majority of procedures andconcepts taught, emphasizing the value of hands-on skill labs.

        고품질 금속 이온 첨가 MCM-41 분자체 촉매의 제법, 특성화 및 응용 반응

        콜로이드 실리카와 가용성 실리카를 이용하여 나트륨이 첨가되지 않은 다양한 금속이온 첨가 MCM-41 촉매를 제조하였다. 전이금속 이온인 V5+, Co2+ 및 Ni2+이 MCM-41에 첨가되었을 경우 기공벽 내의 실리콘 이온과 등방치환을 하여 실리카 기공벽 내에서 독립된 단일 활성점을 형성하여 우수한 환원 및 활성 내구성을 보였다. 수소 승온 환원법을 이용하여 Co-MCM-41 촉매의 기공 곡률 반경효과에 대해 검토해 본 결과, 적절한 환원 처리와 기공 크기 및 pH 조절에 따라 코발트 금속입자의 크기를 1nm 이하의 범위에서 조절할 수 있었으며, 이 미세 금속 입자들은 표면 금속 이온들과의 결합으로 인해 상당한 고온 안정성이 있음을 발견하였다. 완전 환원 후에도 비정형 실리카의 부분 덮힘으로 인해 금속 입자들의 표면 이동 및 뭉침 현상이 현저히 저하되는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 이들 촉매의 반응 예로 금속 입자 크기에 민감한 단일층 탄소 나노튜브의 합성을 Co-MCM-41을 이용하여 실시하였고, 금속 입자의 안정성 시험반응으로 Co 및 Ni-MCM-41을 이용한 CO 메탄화 반응, V-MCM-41을 이용한 메탄올 및 메탄의 부분 산화반응 및 기공곡률 반경이 촉매활성에 미치는 영향 등을 살펴보았다. Various metal ions (transition and base metals) incorporated MCM-41 catalysts can be synthesized using colloidal and soluble silica with non-sodium involved process. Transition metal ion-typically V5+, Co2+, and Ni2+-incorporated MCM-41 catalysts were synthesized by isomorphous substitution of Si ions in the framework. Each incorporated metal ion created a single species in the silica framework, single-site solid catalyst, showing a substantial stability in reduction and catalytic activity. Radius of pore curvature effect was investigated with Co-MCM-41 by temperature programmed reduction (TPR). The size of metallic Co clusters, sub-nanometer, could be controlled by a proper reduction treatment of Co-MCM-41 having different pore size and the initial pH adjustment of the Co-MCM-41 synthesis solution. These small metallic clusters showed a high stability under a harsh reaction condition without serious migration, resulting from a direct anchoring of small metallic clusters to the partially or unreduced metal ions on the surface. After a complete reduction, partial occlusion of the metallic cluster surface by amorphous silica stabilized the particles against aggregations. As a probe reaction of particle size sensitivity, carbon single wall nanotubes (SWNT) were synthesized using Co-MCM-41. A metallic cluster stability test was performed by CO methanation using Co- and Ni- MCM-41. Methanol and methane partial oxidations were carried out with V-MCM-41, and the radius of pore curvature effect on the catalytic activity was investigated.

      • Culture Makes the Differences: The “creativity-schizotypy” Association Varies between Germans and Russians

        This study investigates the impact of cultural background on creativity and schizotypy. Verbal and figural creativity, as well as schizotypal personality traits were assessed in 45 German and 46 Russian individuals. First, while Russian women scored higher on creative abilities than German women, German men scored higher than Russian men. Second, Germans compared to Russians showed higher “innovative capacities”, that is, product-oriented creativity. Third, ‘negative’ schizotypy predicted “innovative capacities”, and this effect was mediated by culture. These results suggest that the construct validity of creativity and schizotypy, as well as their association may be culture-specific. Thus, cultural backgrounds may contribute to labeling behavior as socially acceptable, e.g., creative, or psychopathological, e.g., schizotypal.
