(E)-β-Farnesene, the alarm pheromone of aphids was synthesized from nerolidol by reacting in a sealed tube at 150℃ for 24h with DMSO. Base(KOtBu/DMSO) catalized elimination of HCl from farnesyl chloride at 50℃ for 4h afforded (E)-β-farnesene as the major product. Farnesyl chloride was prepared from nerolidol or farnesol with SOCl_2 or HCl. Biological activity test of (E)-β-farnesene thus synthesized was conducted.

This paper deals with the noise evaluation technique of a reciprocating air-compressor and its noise reduction. The reciprocating air-compressors are widely used in the small, medium sized industrial firms, and lots of their employees are affected and irritated by their noise in the workplace. Thus, noise control actions should be taken appropriately by considering the hearing loss due to the occupational noise exposure. Lead-wrapping techniques are employed to identify the contribution of principal noise sources which are generally known as motor, belts, suction/discharge valves, moving pistons, and flow-induced noise caused by edges or discontinuities along the flow path e.g. expansions, contractions, junctions and bends etc .. As a result, main noise sources of the air-compressor can be categorized by the suction/discharge noise, valve noise, and compressed-air tank noise. Based on the investigations, mufflers are designed to reduce both the suction/discharge noise and the compressed-air tank noise. Instead of the conventional valve plate, polyethylene resin is used as a new one for the reduction of valve impact noise. In addition, attempts are made to reduce the valve noise propagation to the cylinder head and the compressor tank by using the insulation casings. As a result of the countermeasure plans, it can be achieved that the noise reduction of the air-compress is up to 10dB.

Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), a member of genus Begomovirus, was isolated in Korea in 2008. We sequenced and analyzed the DNA-A of 51 TYLCV isolates from Korea, and 13 of the TYLCV isolates were selected as type representatives of TYLCV from six Korean provinces. The 13 TYLCV isolates were classified into Korea Group 1 (KG1, nine isolates) and Korea Group 2 (KG2, four isolates) based on the results of phylogenetic analysis and genome size (2774 and 2781 nucleotides, respectively). A recombination detection program 3 (RDP3) revealed two recombinations between the TYLCV Korea isolates and other TYLCV isolates [Thailand (AF206674), Iran (AJ132711), and Israel (X76319)]. TYLCV Jeju isolate was characterized by two recombination events (E1 and E2) caused by the presence of E1 in ORF V1 and C3, which may seem to be the mutations of the high nucleotide transversion and transition rate. Collectively, our results suggest that the occurrence of nucleotide transversions and transitions in TYLCV DNA-A might have induced novel recombination events within the TYLCV Korea isolates.

Vegetation sampling and sticky trapping were conducted to investigate overwintering thrips species and their vernal activities, respectively, in winter-spring seasons on Jeju island, Korea, from 1994 to 1996. In addition to Thrips palmi Karny, which was reported overwintering on Jeju island by Lee et al. (2001), twelve thrips species belonging to the family Thripidae were found on vegetation during the winter season. Among them, eight species including economically important thrips, Frankliniella intonsa(Trybom), F. occidentalis (Pergande), and T. tabaci Lindeman were found to overwinter on vegetation in the island. Scitothrips dorsalis Hood, however, is uncertatin whether or not it can overwinter on vegetation. Vernal activities of thrips observed by sticky trapping were different among species. All thrips, except for T. palmi, were caught after mid April, and F. intonsa and S. dorsalis were earlier than F. occidentalis and T. tabaci.

Background/Aims: Polyethylene glycol (PEG) electrolyte lavage solution is now commonly used for peroral colonic preparation. However, the need to ingest a large volume reduces patient acceptance and may limit compliance, thereby resulting in improper preparation. This study was designed to assess whether adding of magnesium oxide or cisapride to PEG solution decreased the volume of PEG solution required without compromising the quality of the preparation. Methods: One hundred thirty seven patients undergoing outpatient colonoscopy were randomly chosen to receive one of three preparations (Group A: 4 L PEG; Group B: 2 L PEG plus cisapride 20 mg; Group C: 2 L PEG plus magnesium oxide 2 g). Endoscopist was blinded as to the method of preparation and scored the degree of colonic preparation (1 to 4). Results: Mean scores of preparation in group A, B, and C were 2.85, 2.69, and 2.20, respectively (p=0.001). There were significant differences of the degree of preparation between group A and group C, between group B and group C, but not between group A and group B. Conclusions: Two liters of PEG plus cisapride induced equally effective colonic preparation compared to four liter PEG solution. This results show that the addition of cisapride to PEG solution can reduce volume of PEG solution during colonoscopy preparation.
國ㆍ公有地의 效率的 管理方向에 관한 硏究 - 慶尙北道를 中心으로

본 연구의 목적은 국ㆍ공유지의 관리ㆍ운영 실태를 경상북도 지역을 중심으로 조사ㆍ분석하고, 이를 토대로 문제점을 평가하여 효율적인 관리방향을 제시하는 것이었다. 연구대상을 국ㆍ공유지로 한정하였고, 시간적 범위는 1950년 4월 8일부터 현재까지로, 공간적 범위는 경상북도 지역으로, 내용적 범위는 국ㆍ공유지의 효율적인 관리방향을 제시하는 것으로 한정하였다. 연구방법으로 접근방법은 행정적 접근방법을, 조사방법은 문헌조사법과 인터넷조사법을, 분석방법은 기술적(記述的) 분석방법을 사용하였다.<BR> 연구 결과, 관리 조직적 측면에서의 평가로는 국ㆍ공유지 관리담당공무원의 전문성 결여, 국ㆍ공유지 관리조직 체계의 비효율성, 담당공무원의 책임감 결여 등을 들 수 있었고, 관리 내용적 측면에서의 평가로는 국ㆍ공유지 관리정책 수립 미흡, 국ㆍ공유지의 정확한 실태 조사 미흡, 구체적ㆍ체계적인 국ㆍ공유지관리 업무내용이 미흡한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 관리 조직적 측면에서의 효율적인 관리방향으로는 국ㆍ공유지 담당공무원의 전문성 확보, 국ㆍ공유지관리 조직의 효율성 확보, 국ㆍ공유지관리 담당공무원의 책임감 있는 업무수행 능력이 요구되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 관리 내용적 측면에서의 효율적인 관리방향으로는 중ㆍ장기적 국ㆍ공유지관리 정책 마련, 국ㆍ공유지 현황에 대한 정확한 전수조사 및 실태조사 실시, 표준화된 국ㆍ공유지관리 업무내용의 체계가 정립되어야 할 것으로 나타났다. The purpose of this study is to suggest how to effectively manage the public land through evaluation of the subsequent problems with the managerial affairs of the public land, based on the study result through research and analysis after restricting the region within Kyung sang buk do. Therefore, to satisfy the study purpose effectively, the voluntary settings are as followings. The overall study scope is limited only to the public land. The scope of time is set from 8th ,April in 1950 when the national property Act was initially created up to now. The spatial scope is restricted within Kyung sang buk do. The scope of contents is limited by suggesting an effective way for the management of public land after evaluating the shown problems. A method of administrative approach is used to research and analyze the subject matter more effectively. A method of descriptive analysis, a method of documentary reference and Internet use and a case method are also used for the acquirement of data needed.<BR> With the scope and methods used, The results that are evaluated both in organizational aspects and content aspects are as followings. In terms of organizational management problems, It seems that the public officers in charge of public land maintenance are in lack of specialty in evaluation of the problem with managerial offices. The supervision system of the public land is literally ineffective. The public officers in charge are in lack of responsibility for their work. In terms of content management problems, A policy act for the public land management is not outstanding. An exact investigation into public land is not to the satisfying extent. Works done for the public land control are insufficient. To manage the public land more effectively, On the basis of the evaluated results, it is suggested as followings. In terms of organizational aspects, More specialty of the public officers in charge of it is required. Effectiveness of managerial organization is required. More responsibility and ability to get the jobs done are required. In terms of content aspects, A long-term based managerial policy for the public land maintenance is urgently required. An exact investigation into the public land should be performed as soon as possible. A standardized job description for the public land maintenance should be much more systematized and rooted.
