        Landslides pose significant threats to communities and infrastructure, necessitating comprehensive risk assessment for effective mitigation strategies. This abstract presents a novel approach to landslide risk assessment for South Korea, revealing three previously unconsidered factors in the traditional local landslide risk assessment: aspect, elevation, and soil type. Conventional risk assessments have overlooked and have not considered these crucial causative factors, leading to incomplete evaluations. This study uncovers correlations between landslide occurrences and the overlooked variables by integrating data mining and co-occurrence network analysis. The goal is to provide landslide risk evaluators with a more accurate and holistic understanding of landslide risk, facilitating better-informed decision-making. The research highlights the significance of integrating previously neglected factors to enhance the overall effectiveness of landslide risk assessment. The key findings underscore the importance of considering aspect, elevation, and soil type when evaluating landslide risk, enabling stakeholders to anticipate better and address landslide susceptibility in vulnerable regions. This research advances local landslide risk assessment methodologies by shedding light on three essential factors overlooked in traditional approaches. By embracing data mining and network analysis techniques, our findings empower communities and decision-makers with the knowledge needed to develop proactive strategies for mitigating landslide risks and ensuring the safety of vulnerable areas.

        Preparation of highly dispersed and thermally stable nanosized cerium–hafnium solid solutions over silica surface: Structural and catalytic evaluation

        A highly dispersed and thermally stable nanosized cerium–hafnium solid solution over silica support has been synthesized. The obtained catalyst exhibited a high specific surface area and superior redox as well as acid–base properties. To unveil dispersion and thermal stability, samples were thermally annealed at various temperatures from 773 to 1073 K and investigated by means of XRD, TEM, XPS, ISS, Raman spectroscopy and other techniques. Catalytic activity was evaluated for selective dehydration of 4-methylpentan-2-ol to 4-methylpent-1-ene in the vapor phase. The designed catalyst exhibited better activity and selectivity, and the observed catalytic properties were correlated with structural features.

        Vapor phase synthesis of cyclopentanone over nanostructured ceria–zirconia solid solution catalysts

        The present study was undertaken to develop a novel and easy practical approach for synthesis of cyclopentanone, a versatile industrial ingredient. Accordingly, ceria–zirconia based nano-oxide catalysts, namely, CexZr1-xO2 and CexZr1-xO2/M (M = SiO2 and Al2O3) were prepared and evaluated for the title reaction. The physicochemical characterization has been achieved using different techniques, namely, XRD, BET surface area, XPS, Raman, OSC, and HREM. The catalytic results revealed that CexZr1-xO2 based nano-oxides are promising heterogeneous catalysts for synthesis of cyclopenta-none. Amongst, the CexZr1-xO2/Al2O3 catalyst exhibited ~100% conversion with 75% desired cyclopentanone product selectivity owing to its favorable physicochemical characteristics.

        The Effect of Endoscopic Tympanoplasty on Cochlear Function

        Objectives. The aim of this prospective clinical study was to measure the audiologic outcomes of the patients that underwent endoscopic transcanal cartilage tympanoplasty, and to investigate the effects on cochlear function. Methods. Thirty-three patients (33 ears) who were diagnosed with noncomplicated chronic otitis media and underwent endoscopic transcanal cartilage tympanoplasty technique were included. Pre- and postoperative first month distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), bone conduction hearing levels and air bone gap (ABG) values were measured and total endoscope usage time was noted. Results. Preoperative median SNR measurements at 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 kHz were 6 dB (1–11; interquartile range [IQR], 1), 6 dB (4–20; IQR, 1), 7 dB (3–26; IQR, 5) and 5.50 dB (0–9; IQR, 3), respectively. Postoperative median SNR measurements at 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 kHz were 6 dB (3–9; IQR, 1), 6 dB (2–21; IQR, 3), 7 dB (2–20; IQR, 3), and 6 dB (0–10; IQR, 7), respectively. Regarding the DPOAE measurements, there was no statistically significant difference between the SNR values of all given frequencies (P>0.05). Regarding the pure tone audiometry (PTA) measurements, bone conduction was significantly better at 0.5 and 1 kHz, postoperatively (P<0.05) and there was statistically significant difference at 2 and 4 kHz (P>0.05). Additionally, no statistically significant correlation was found between the SNR and PTA measurements and the endoscope usage time (P>0.05). Conclusion. We suggested that cochlear functions and sensorineural hearing remained stable after endoscopic transcanal cartilage tympanoplasty and cold light source doesn’t cause significant adverse effects cochlear functions.

        Wear properties of brass samples subjected to constrained groove pressing process

        Ultrafine grained materials have experienced a rapid development during the last two decades. Constrained groove pressing (CGP) process is one of the severe plastic deformation methods to fabricate ultrafine grain sheet materials. In this research, wear behavior of brass sheet subjected to CGP process was investigated. Generally it is shown that CGP process enhances the wear resistance of the material and this behavior is improved by increasing pass number. Also, the effect of initial pass and lower applied normal load on the wear resistance is more profound than subsequent passes and higher applied normal load, respectively. In addition, the influence of normal load is more profound than pass number at the increment of friction force. Although CGP process results in reduction at the specific wear rate, the influence of the first pass is much higher than the subsequent ones. Furthermore, lower specific wear rate is occurred at the higher applied normal load. The scanning electron microscopy analyses indicated that the wear mechanism is transferred from adhesion, delamination, abrasion and oxidation for the annealed condition to abrasion and adhesion for the third pass CGP sample. Also, it is found that there is a reverse relationship between specific wear rate and hardness.

        A novel amperometric glucose biosensor based on poly(glycidyl methacrylate-co-(3-thienylmethylmethacrylate))

        Two novel glucose oxidase (GOx) enzyme electrodes based on the copolymer of glycidyl methacrylate with 3-thienylmethyl methacrylate (poly(GMA-co-MTM)) with and without polypyrrole (PPyr) coating were prepared and employed in the amperometric determination of glucose levels. The effect of PPyr coating on the electrode properties was investigated in detail. Cyclic voltammetry studies showed that electrical conductivity of electrode B with PPyr coating (poly(GMA-co-MTM)/GOx/PPyr) was substantially higher than that of electrode A (poly(GMA-co-MTM)/GOx). On the other hand, electrode A showed better results in terms of sensitivity (10 nA/mM), limit of detection (50.2 mM), and response time (5 s). Electrodes A and B gave linear responses to the glucose concentrations in the range of 2e20 and 2e14 mM, respectively. The ranges of linearity for both enzyme electrodes are sufficient for the determination of physiological glucose concentrations in human blood. Moreover, PPyr coating of electrode B did not result in further stabilization of the enzyme electrode.

        농업 지역의 지리 정보는 자원 관리와 농업 생산성에 있어 매우 중요하여 지리 정보 시스템(Geographic Information Systems, GIS)이 활용되고 있다. GIS를 활용하여 토양 조건, 침식, 기저유량 등 다양한 요인을 관리하고 예측이 가능하다. 그러나 기존 GIS는 넓은 지역의 지형, 수리 구조물 등 세밀하게 표현하는 데 한계가 존재하며, 수리 구조물과 같은 농업용 사회기반시설의 크기, 유지관리 이력 등의 정보 표현에 한계가 존재한다. 따라서, 본 연구는 농업용 사회기반시설의 효율적인 관리와 분석을 위해 3차원 모델에 다양한 정보가 포함된 Building Information Model(BIM)의 개념과 Web기반 GIS를 융합하여 새로운 형태의 사회기반시설물 정보관리 방법을 제안한다. 강원도 원주시의 흥업 저수지 수혜 지역을 대상으로, 현장 조사와 UAVs 촬영을 통해 수집된 데이터를 바탕으로 3차원 모델을 생성하고, 이를 Web 기반 지리 공간 시각화 플랫폼인 Cesium을 이용하여 지도상 실제 위치에 시각화하였다. 또한, 3차원 모델과 현장 조사를 통하여 얻어진 각 모델의 세부 정보를 입력하였다. 즉, 특정 모델을 선택하면 해당 모델의 상세 정보가 팝업창을 통해 표시되며, 직관적인 유지관리 정보관리가 가능하도록 하였다. 이러한 방법은 기존 GIS에서는 할 수 없었던 사회기반시설물 이력관리를 가능하게 하도록 하였다. 즉, 수자원 조절 및 관리에 중요한 역할을 하는 수리 시설물의 관리와 유지 보수 이력을 직관적으로 확인하고 분석할 수 있는 실질적인 관리 도구를 제공하며, 사회기반시설물과 수자원 관리 분야의 복잡한 패턴 분석에 체계적으로 기여하며, 현장 방문 없이 실내 환경에서 각 시설물의 정보를 분석과 비교를 가능하게 함으로써 향후 농업과 수자원 관리 분야의 연구와 실용적인 응용에 중요한 발판을 제공할 것으로 기대된다.
