        칠복음(七福飮)이 Glucose Oxidase에 의해 손상(損傷)된 대뇌피질(大腦皮質) 신경세포(神經細胞)에 미치는 영향(影響)

        As the average life span have been lengthened and the rate of senile population have been raised, chronic degenerative diseases incident to aging has been increased rapidly and become a social problem. With this social background, recently, the facts that oxygen radicals(OR) have toxic effects on Central Nervous System and Peripheral Nervous System and cause neuropathy such as Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer Disease have been turned out, and accordingly lots of studies on the mechanism of the toxic effects of OR on nerves, the diseases caused by OR and the approaches to curing the diseases have been made. The purpose of this study is to examine the toxic effects caused by Glucose Oxidase(GO) and the effects of herbal extracts such as Chilbokyeum(CBY) on the treatment of the toxic effects. For this purpose, experiments with the cultured cell from the cerebrums of new born mice were done. The results of these experiments were as follows. 1. GO, a oxygen radical, decreased the survival rate of the cultured cells on NR assay and MTT assay 2. GO, a oxygen radical, increased lipid peroxidation and the amount of LDH. 3. CBY have efficacy of decreasing lipid peroxidation. 4. CBY have efficacy of decreasing the amount of LOH. From the above results, It is concluded that Chilbokyeum has marked efficacy as a treatment for the damages caused in the GO-mediated oxidative process. And Chilbokyeum is thought to have certain pharmacological effects on controlling over aging and treating Dementia. Further clinical study of this pharmacological effects of Chilbokyeum should be complemented.

      • Synergistic effect of UV and <small>L</small>-ascorbic acid on the reduction of graphene oxide: Reduction kinetics and quantum chemical simulations

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A photochemical strategy for eco-friendly reduction of graphene oxide (GO) was developed by using <SMALL>L</SMALL>-ascorbic acid (L-AA) as a photosensitive reducing agent. L-AA was excited and oxidized with deprotonation by UV irradiation (254 nm) and the proton coupled electron transfer induces chemical reduction of GO. This photochemical process is quite eco-friendly and scalable, and the reduction kinetics and degree of GO were highly enhanced. To understand the improved reduction power by UV light, the redox properties of L-AA in the ground and excited states were characterized by using quantum chemical simulations.       • 국민학교아동의 성교육에 관한 연구

        The purpose of this study is to make some valuable suggestions on sex education for elementary school pupils. The study is interested in the following questions: First, what about the state of sexual maturity of elementary school pupils and what difference is made according to such variable like grade, sex, residential environment, social and economic position, etc.? Second, what about the state of the young pupils' consciousness of the apposite sex and what difference is shown according to the variables? Third, what opinions do the parents and teachers have on sex education and what difference is there according to the variables (sex, age, educational background and teaching career)? For this study questionnairs were distributed to 955 elementary school pupils, 310 elementary school teachers, and 333 parents of the pupils living in Pusan. The answers of each section of the questionnairs returned were analyzed by ?? examination for the representation in terms of percentage. The findings of the investigation are as follows. First, at an earlier period than before do the pupils experience wetdream and menarche, the girls' breasts swell and the boys' voices change, and their pubic and armpit hair grow. That is ther is a tendency of early sexual maturity among young boys and girls owing to the improvement of their constitution through the betterment of the diet. Second, it is brought out that the reason young boys and girls have much interest in associating with the opposite sex is for the change of their consciousness of the opposite sex because of psychological development, influenced by various kinds of mass media. Third, it is shown that all the parents and teachers recognize the necessity of sex education at the elementary schools. They think that it would be good for teachers to teach pupils in the and fifth and sixth grade in relevant classes and for parents in special classes. They think that it would be good for them to teach the pupils about the differences and the roles of man and woman, the phenomena of sexual physiology, sex morals and hygiene in that order.

      • 알루미나-탄화티타늄 복합체 방전가공의 정상상태 수치해석

        알루미나와 탄화티타늄이 혼합된 세라믹 복합체의 방전가공 현상에 대하여 방전열량이 연속적으로 공급되는 정상상태를 가정하여 갤러킨 방법으로 유한요소 해석을 수행하였다. 해석결과 방전열속이 3.710×10^(7) cal/s·㎡인 경우 반경 20㎛, 깊이 5㎛정도의 홈이 파일 것으로 예측되었다. 방전열속을 5,565×10^(7) cal/s·㎡로 1.5배 정도 높인 경우에는 관심영역 안의 모든 알루미나가 녹았으며 탄화티타늄도 반경 30㎛. 깊이 25㎛에 상당하는 범위까지 녹는 것을 알 수 있었고, 방전흔은 적어도 반경 30㎛ 이상이 될 것으로 예측되었다. 방전역속이 7,420×10^(7) cal/s·㎡ 이상이 되면 피가공물이 완전히 녹아 가공표면이 거칠어질 수 있으므로 방전열속을 이 값 이상 올리지 않는 것이 바람직하다. A finite element analysis has been performed for the electro-discharge machining of an alumina-titanium carbide(Al₂O₃-TiO₂) composite, assuming that the electro-discharge system is in steady-state. A discharge heat flux of 3.710X l0^{7} cal/s·m²is shown to possibly make a crater with radius of 20 μm and depth of 5 μm. When a discharge heat flux of 5.565× l0^{7} cal/s·m²is used, all of the alumina particles in the domain of intrest melts while the titanium carbide particles within the radius of 30 urn and the depth of 25 μm reach the melting point, thus the size of the crater formed becomes larger than 30 μm in radius. It is not recommended to use a discharge heat flux of greater than 7.42O×10^{7} cal/s·m², because it may deteriorate the surface roughness.

        The purpose of this study is to examine the toxic effects caused by Glucose Oxidase(GO) and the effects of herbal extracts such as Acori Rhizoma(AR) on the treatment of the toxic effects. For this purpose, experiments with the cultured cell from the cerebrums of new born mice were done. The results of these experiments were as follows. 1. GO, a oxygen radical, decreased the survival rate of the cultured cells on NR assay and MTT assay. 2. GO, a oxygen radical, decreased the amount of neurofilaments and total protein. 3. AR have efficacy of increasing the amount of neurofilament. 4. AR have efficacy of increasing the amount of total protein. From the above results, It is concluded that AR has marked efficacy as a treatment for the damages caused in the GO-mediated oxidative process. And AR is thought to have certain pharmacological effects on controlling over aging. Further clinical study of this pharmacological effects of AR should be complemented.

        BioSMACK: a Linux Live CD for genome-wide association analyses

        Recent advances in high-throughput genotyping technologies have enabled us to conduct a genome-wide association study (GWAS) on a large cohort. However, analyzing millions of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) is still a difficult task for researchers conducting a GWAS. Several difficulties such as compatibilities and dependencies are often encountered by researchers using analytical tools, during the installation of software. This is a huge obstacle to any research institute without computing facilities and specialists. Therefore, a proper research environment is an urgent need for researchers working on GWAS. We developed BioSMACK to provide a research environment for GWAS that requires no configuration and is easy to use. BioSMACK is based on the Ubuntu Live CD that offers a complete Linux-based operating system environment without installation. Moreover, we provide users with a GWAS manual consisting of a series of guidelines for GWAS and useful examples. BioSMACK is freely available at http://ksnp.cdc. go.kr/biosmack.       • 심한 골병변으로 발현된 기능성 낭종성 부갑상선 선종

        낭종성 부갑상선 선종과 심한 골병변을 동반한 부갑상선 기능항진증은 매우 드문 질환으로서, 저자들은 양측 고관절의 통증을 초기 주소로 내원한 환자에서 고칼슘혈증과 부갑상선 호르몬 증가, 골병변의 방사선적 소견을 통해 부갑상선 기능항진증을 진단하고, 경부 초음파와 컴퓨터 단층 촬영, 부갑상선 스캔검사 및 수술중 부갑상선 낭종액 검사 등을 통해 기능성 부갑상선 낭종의 한 종류인 낭종성 부갑상선 선종을 진단하고 수술적 제거를 통하여 정상화된 1예를 경험하였다. A cystic parathyroid adenoma is rare. A case of primary hyperparathyroidism, with the cystic formation of a parathyroid adenoma and a severe bony lesion, is reported. A 52-year-old male was admitted due to pain in both hips and for evaluation of hypercalcemia. The plasma level of the intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) was elevated to 1424 pg/mL. Ultrasonography and the computed tomography revealed a parathyroid cyst on the left thyroid lower pole. Parathyroid scintigraphy detected a parathyroid adenoma. A radiograph showed a subperiosteal bone resorption on the phalanges, and a brown tumor (osteitis fibrosa cystica) on the femur shaft was noted. A surgical excision of the parathyroid adenoma was performed. The PTH level in the cystic fluid was increased. A histological examination confirmed a cystic parathyroid adenoma. The PTH level was normalized after the operation (J Kor SOC Endocrinol 18:214-220, 2003).

      • U-Turn의 적정신호시간 모형구축에 관한 연구

        In metropolitan, main streets manages 60-80% of the whole traffic in Korea even though its limited area and short extension. Main streets in urban has suffered congestion and a falling-off in capability of transportation due to its frequent discontinuity and disconnection. Especially Left-turn traffic mainly generates a shortage of fluidity in intersection although most intersection adopts Left-turn because of the peculiarity of traffic flows. To breakthrough this deterioration, U-turn system goes into effect in intersection of most main streets by reducing Left-turn phase or banning Left-turn at specific intersections to increase the fluidity of main direction. However, U-turn system lacks continuity and reveals security deficits because its legal basis and safety standard are not definitive. Therefore, this study, firstly, investigates the special characteristics of U-turn system, analyzes its effects based on the case of Busan city making the survey of drivers' awareness on U-turn. Then, secondly, This study aims to suggest more efficient and executive operating program for U-turn system by constructing proper Signal time model for U-turn.
