Thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) can regulate line impedance and therefore increase transferred power of the system. On the other hand power system stabilizer (PSS) increases dynamic stability of generator. To enhance the stability, combination of TCSC and PSS can be applied, and in such a case coordination of TCSC and PSS is essential. This paper applies this combined controller in order to enhance the stability of multi-machine system. Parameters of these controllers are optimized by velocity update relaxation particle swarm optimization (VURPSO) algorithm and Genetic algorithm (GA). The simulation results show that the combination of VURPSO algorithm and GA leads to a better design and stability.
Numerical Study on Ultimate Deformation and Resistance Capacity of Bolted T-Stub Connection
Ghazanfar Ali Anwar,Florea Dinu,Munir Ahmed 한국강구조학회 2019 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.19 No.3
Disproportionate or progressive collapse is a phenomenon in which entire structure or large part of it collapses because of the local failure of a structure. Resistance to such progressive collapse depends on continuity between elements and ductility of the connections. The ductility of commonly used bolted end plate connections may depend on the T-stub component of the connection. The aim of this paper is to study the behaviour of T-stub components of beam to column end plate bolted connections under large deformation demands associated with column loss scenario. For this purpose, a parametric study is carried out to evaluate the ultimate strength and deformation capacity considering two parameters i.e. distance between the bolts and endplate thickness. Based on the experimental data, numerical model has been validated and employed in a parametric numerical study aimed at improving the response under large deformation demands. The study indicate signifi cant role of bolts in development of catenary forces since the ultimate tensile capacity of T-stub after undergoing large deformation in a ductile failure mode was controlled by the failure of the bolts. Parametric study reveals much higher bolt force in comparison with displacement controlled induced axial force in the T-stub indicating failure of the bolts at much lower applied axial force.

<P>As one of the newly discovered transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), rhenium disulfide (ReS2) has been investigated mostly because of its unique characteristics such as the direct band gap nature even in bulk form, which is not prominent in other TMDs (e.g., MoS2, WSe2, etc.). However, this material possesses a low mobility and an on/off ratio, which restrict its usage in high-speed and fast switching applications. Low mobilities or on/off ratios can also be caused by substrate scattering as well as environmental effects. In this study, we used few-layer ReS2 (FL-ReS2) as a channel material to investigate the substrate-dependent mobility, current on/off ratio, Schottky barrier height (SBH), and trap density of states of different dielectric substrates. The hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN)/FL-ReS2/h-BN structure was observed to exhibit a high mobility of 45 cm2 V-1 s-1, current on/off ratio of about 107, the lowest SBH of about 12 mV at a zero back-gate voltage (<I>V</I>bg), and a low trap density of states of about 5 × 1013 cm-3. These quantities are reasonably superior compared to the FL-ReS2 devices on SiO2 substrates. We also observed a nearly 5-fold improvement in the photoresponsivity and external quantum efficiency values for the FL-ReS2 devices on h-BN substrates. We believe that the photonic characteristics of TMDs can be improved by using h-BN as the substrate and capping layer.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

We report the field evaluation of second generation of transgenic cotton expressing Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) genes cry1Ac and cry2A under CaMV 35S promoter. Sixty-five transgenic lines were grown under RCBD design. Transgenic plants exhibited inherent ability to resist target insect (p < 0.05 and 0.01). Morphological studies showed significant reduction in plant height making them favorable for breeding. Yield was significantly increased for the transgenic lines. Fiber analysis showed improved gin turn out 40% for transgenic lines in comparison to 32% for non-transformed lines. Fibre quality of transgenic lines was not affected when compared with non transgenic lines. Inheritance pattern for transgenic lines suggests the need of further studies to understand the complex molecular mechanisms for resistance management and biosafety studies to develop new Bt cotton varieties. The efficacy of one new modified and two old meridic diets on Helicoverpa armigera Hübner (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) for rearing six successive generations was studied. Duration of larval development for insects fed on the modified diet was considerably shortened as most of them went through only five stadia before pupation, while the per cent pupation and per cent eclosion were relatively higher than on other diets. The lowest pupal mortality (6.33 ± 0.13%) was recorded in the F1 generation reared on the modified diet, whereas the highest pupal mortality (19.49 ± 0.15%) was observed in insects reared on a natural diet in the F6 generation. Blending of chickpea Cicer arietinum L. and red kidney bean Phaseolus vulgaris L. flours with tomato paste proved highly favorable for adult reproduction. These results suggest that the vitality of the tomato fruitworm did not decline obviously after rearing on a modified diet for several generations.
Occurrence and diversity of entomopathogenic fungi in cultivated and uncultivated soils in Pakistan
Waqas Wakil,M. Usman GHAZANFAR,Tahira RIASAT,권용정,Mirza Abdul QAYYUM,Muhammad YASIN 한국곤충학회 2013 Entomological Research Vol.43 No.1
The distribution of entomopathogenic fungi in various geographical areas of Punjab, Pakistan, is poorly understood. The present study was planned to explore the occurrence and diversity of entomopathogenic fungi from soils collected from cultivated and non‐cultivated habitats. The detailed survey of different habitats (crop fields, fruits, vegetables, forests) was conducted to collect soil samples and the associated fungi were isolated using Galleria bait method. Among 210 soil samples, 168 fungal isolates were recovered and identified, with 98 from forests, 32 from vegetables, 30 from field crops and 8 from fruits. The major entomopathogenic fungi recovered from these samples were Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, Paecilomyces lilacinus, B. brongniartii, P. chlamydosporia and Lecanicillium attenuatum. The diversity of entomopathogenic fungi was greater in soil samples from forests compared to crop fields, vegetables and fruits, respectively. The geographical attributes (altitude, longitude, latitude) greatly influenced the occurrence of entomopathogenic fungi with the highest number of isolates found from >600 m altitude, 33°–34′N latitude, and 73°74′E longitude from soil samples. The results of the surveys clearly indicated that the entomopathogenic fungi are distributed in the soils which may be used in successful IPM programs in future.
Isolated Topologies of Switched-Resonator Converters
Masoud Jabbari,Hosein Farzanehfard,Ghazanfar Shahgholian 전력전자학회 2010 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.10 No.2
Switched-resonator converters are a new family of soft switching DC-DC converters where the energy is transferred via a resonator. This paper introduces some isolated topologies of this family. The achieved advantages include, load independent soft-switching, self short-circuit protection, and optimization capability due to topology variety. Compared to conventional seriesresonant converters, outstanding advantages such as a smaller fewer number of switches and diodes, a smaller transformer, and lower current stresses are achieved. A general synthesis scheme, functional topologies, and essential relations are included. Experimental results from a laboratory prototype confirm the presented theoretical analysis.
