Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate vital pulp tissue removal from different endodontic instrumentation systems from root canal apical third in vivo. Materials and Methods: Thirty mandibular molars were selected and randomly divided into 2 test groups and one control group. Inclusion criteria were a positive response to cold sensibility test, curvature angle between 10 and 20 degrees, and curvature radius lower than 10 mm. Root canals prepared with Hero 642 system (size 45/0.02) (n = 10) and Reciproc R40 (size 40/0.06) (n = 10) and control (n = 10) without instrumentation. Canals were irrigated only with saline solution during root canal preparation. The apical third was evaluated considering the touched/untouched perimeter and area to evaluate the efficacy of root canal wall debridement. Statistical analysis used t-test for comparisons. Results: Untouched root canal at cross-section perimeter, the Hero 642 system showed 41.44% ± 5.62% and Reciproc R40 58.67% ± 12.39% without contact with instruments. Regarding the untouched area, Hero 642 system showed 22.78% ± 6.42% and Reciproc R40 34.35% ± 8.52%. Neither instrument achieved complete cross-sectional root canal debridement. Hero 642 system rotary taper 0.02 instruments achieved significant greater wall contact perimeter and area compared to reciprocate the Reciproc R40 taper 0.06 instrument. Conclusions: Hero 642 achieved higher wall contact perimeter and area but, regardless of instrument size and taper, vital pulp during in vivo instrumentation is not entirely removed.

Background/Aims Impedance-pH monitoring allows detailed characterization of gastroesophageal reflux and esophageal activity associated with reflux. We assessed the characteristics of nocturnal reflux and esophageal activity preceding and following reflux. Methods Impedance-pH tracings from 11 healthy subjects and 76 patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease off acid-suppressive therapy were analyzed. Characteristics of nocturnal supine reflux, time distribution and esophageal activity seen on impedance at 2 minute intervals preceding and following reflux were described. Results Patients had more nocturnal reflux events than healthy subjects (8 [4-12] vs 2 [1-5], P = 0.002), with lower proportion of weakly acidic reflux (57% [35-78] vs 80% [60-100], P = 0.044). Nocturnal reflux was mainly liquid (80%) and reached the proximal esophagus more often in patients (6% vs 0%, P = 0.047). Acid reflux predominated in the first 2 hours (66%) and weakly acidic reflux in the last 3 hours (70%) of the night. Most nocturnal reflux was preceded by aboral flows and cleared by short lasting volume clearance. In patients, prolonged chemical clearance was associated with less esophageal activity. Conclusions Nocturnal weakly acidic reflux is as common as acid reflux in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease, and predominates later in the night. Impedance-pH can predict prolonged chemical clearance after nocturnal acid reflux. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2011;17:148-157)

The kinetics of the supercriticalfluid extraction of edible and discarded chia seeds was studied andmodelled for thefirst time. The total oil was removed at 45 MPa and 60 C after 240 min. The extractionkinetics was simulated using a dynamic model in gPROMS ModelBuilder environment and the kineticparameters estimated. Triolein was chosen as a model compound of the chia oil. The agreement betweenthe experimental yields and those calculated by the model was good with deviations in the range(1.2–6.6) %, except at 25 MPa and 60 C (AARD = 9.5%).

Advancing age is one of the risk factors for developing many diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disorders, and neurodegenerative alterations, such as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and Alzheimer's Disease (AD). Studies have indicated that supplementation with resveratrol (RSV) might improve cerebrovascular function and reduce the risk of developing dementia. Thus, the aim of this systematic review was to assess the effects of RSV on MCI and AD. MEDLINE-PubMed, Cochrane, and EMBASE were used to perform the search, and PRISMA guidelines were followed. Five studies met the eligible criteria; three with AD and two with MCI. In AD patients, the use of RSV reduces Aβ levels, improves brain volume, reduces the Mini-mental status score, and improves AD scores. In patients with MCI, this polyphenol prevents decline in Standard Volumes of Interest and increases the Resting-state Functional Connectivity score. RSV can activate the human silent information regulator 2/sirtuin 1 (Sirt-1) and can inhibit the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), 5-lipoxygenase, and nuclear factor-κB, resulting in the reduction of the proinflammation pathways. It is also associated with the increase in the levels of interleukin (IL)-10 and reduction of interferon-γ and IL-17. Both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects can be related to preventing neurodegenerative diseases, doing maintenance, and enabling the recovery of these conditions directly related to inflammation and oxidative stress. We suggest that the use of RSV can bring beneficial effects to patients with MCI or AD.
The D-lineage MADS-box gene <i>OsMADS13</i> controls ovule identity in rice
Dreni, Ludovico,Jacchia, Sara,Fornara, Fabio,Fornari, Monica,Ouwerkerk, Pieter B. F.,An, Gynheung,Colombo, Lucia,Kater, Martin M. Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2007 The Plant journal Vol.52 No.4
<P>Summary</P><P>Genes that control ovule identity were first identified in <I>Petunia</I>. Co-suppression of both <I>FLORAL BINDING PROTEIN 7</I> (<I>FBP7</I>) and <I>FBP11</I>, two D-lineage genes, resulted in the homeotic transformation of ovules into carpelloid structures. Later in Arabidopsis it was shown that three genes, <I>SHATTERPROOF1</I> (<I>SHP1</I>), <I>SHP2,</I> and <I>SEEDSTICK</I> (<I>STK</I>), redundantly control ovule identity, because in the <I>stk shp1 shp2</I> triple mutant ovules lose identity and are transformed into carpel and leaf-like structures. Of these three Arabidopsis genes <I>STK</I> is the only D-lineage gene, and its expression, like <I>FBP7</I> and <I>FBP11</I>, is restricted to ovules. <I>OsMADS13</I> is the rice ortholog of <I>STK</I>, <I>FBP7,</I> and <I>FBP11</I>. Its amino acid sequence is similar to the Arabidopsis and <I>Petunia</I> proteins, and its expression is also restricted to ovules. We show that the <I>osmads13</I> mutant is female sterile and that ovules are converted into carpelloid structures. Furthermore, making carpels inside carpels, the <I>osmads13</I> flower is indeterminate, showing that <I>OsMADS13</I> also has a function in floral meristem determinacy. <I>OsMADS21</I> is most likely to be a paralog of <I>OsMADS13</I>, although its expression is not restricted to ovules. Interestingly, the <I>osmads21</I> mutant did not show any obvious phenotype. Furthermore, combining the <I>osmads13</I> and the <I>osmads21</I> mutants did not result in any additive ovule defect, indicating that <I>osmads21</I> does not control ovule identity. These results suggest that during evolution the D-lineage gene <I>OsMADS21</I> has lost its ability to determine ovule identity.</P>
Incidence and Epidemiology of Thoracolumbar Spine Fractures: WFNS Spine Committee Recommendations
Mehmet Zileli,Salman Sharif,Maurizio Fornari 대한척추신경외과학회 2021 Neurospine Vol.18 No.4
This review aims to search the epidemiology and incidence rates of thoracolumbar spine fractures. A systematic review of the literature of the last 10 years gave 586 results with “incidence,” and 387 results with “epidemiology,” of which 39 papers were analyzed. The review results were discussed and voted in 2 consensus meetings of the WFNS (World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies) Spine Committee. Out of 39 studies, 15 studies have focused on thoracolumbar trauma, remaining 24 studies have looked at all spine trauma. Most were retrospective in nature; few were prospective and multicenter. Some studies have focused on specific injuries. The annual incidence of TL fractures is about 30/100,000 inhabitants including osteoporotic fractures. There is a trend to increase the fractures in elderly population especially in developed countries, while an increase of motor vehicle accidents in developing countries. The mortality rate among male elderly patients is relatively high. The incidence of thoracolumbar spine fractures is increasing because of low-velocity falls in the elderly population. The main reasons are falls and traffic accidents. Learning the regional differences and some special forms of trauma such as extreme sports, war, and gunshot injuries will help the prevention of the thoracolumbar spine fractures.
