Highly dispersive substitution box (S-box) design using chaos
Faheem, Zaid Bin,Ali, Asim,Khan, Muhamad Asif,Ul-Haq, Muhammad Ehatisham,Ahmad, Waqar Electronics and Telecommunications Research Instit 2020 ETRI Journal Vol.42 No.4
Highly dispersive S-boxes are desirable in cryptosystems as nonlinear confusion sublayers for resisting modern attacks. For a near optimal cryptosystem resistant to modern cryptanalysis, a highly nonlinear and low differential probability (DP) value is required. We propose a method based on a piecewise linear chaotic map (PWLCM) with optimization conditions. Thus, the linear propagation of information in a cryptosystem appearing as a high DP during differential cryptanalysis of an S-box is minimized. While mapping from the chaotic trajectory to integer domain, a randomness test is performed that justifies the nonlinear behavior of the highly dispersive and nonlinear chaotic S-box. The proposed scheme is vetted using well-established cryptographic performance criteria. The proposed S-box meets the cryptographic performance criteria and further minimizes the differential propagation justified by the low DP value. The suitability of the proposed S-box is also tested using an image encryption algorithm. Results show that the proposed S-box as a confusion component entails a high level of security and improves resistance against all known attacks.

In this study, we had successfully prepared a colloidal solution consisting of polyvinylidene fluoride and cellulose acetate for obtaining nanofibers by electrospinning. The prepared nanofibers were characterized by SEM, FT-IR, TGA and XRD. These characterization techniques revealed that cellulose acetate can be easily introduced in polyvinylidene fluoride nanofibers using a colloidal solution, and this method favorably preserves the intact nature of cellulose acetate. The cell toxicity and cell attachment studies using NIH 3T3 fibroblasts indicated non-toxic behavior and good attachment of cells due to modification of cellulose acetate in polyvinylidene fluoride nanofibers.
Hand based Gesture Recognition inside a car through IR-UWB Radar
Faheem Khan,Sung Ho Cho 대한전자공학회 2017 대한전자공학회 학술대회 Vol.2017 No.1
In this paper, the gesture recognition through IRUWB radar is discussed. The gestures are made by human hand in front of the radar inside a car. The gestures can be used to control different electronics devices inside a car. The gestures vary among each other through different parameters such as change in displacement of the hand, change in magnitude and surface area of the hand. In the first part of the experiments, we train all the gestures by using neural networks and in the second part any gesture made by the human hand is compared to the gestures database and hence gesture recognition is done.

We report the observation of room temperature ferromagnetism in Cu-doped ZnO nanorods prepared by microwave irradiation technique. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results showed that Cu-doped ZnO comprise a single phase nature with wurtzite structure and Cu ions were successfully incorporated into the lattice position of Zn ions in ZnO matrix. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and TEM micrographs suggested that the size of Cu-doped ZnO nanorods ranges from 50 to 70 nm in diameter and 300 to 400 nm in length, respectively. The selected area electron diffraction (SAED) pattern infer that the Cu-ZnO nanorods have single phase nature with preferentially growth direction along [0 0 1] plane. Raman scattering spectra of Cu-doped ZnO nanorods revealed the blue shift of <I>E2</I>high mode that is related to the vibration of oxygen atoms in wurtzite ZnO, suggested the successful doping of Cu at Zn site into ZnO. Magnetization measurements showed that the nanorods exhibit room temperature ferromagnetism.

Mixed neuroendocrine-nonneuroendocrine neoplasms (MiNENs) are a group of rare tumors previously known as mixed adenoneuroendocrine carcinomas (MANECs). The neuroendocrine component is high-grade and may consist of small-cell carcinoma or large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. The nonneuroendocrine component may consist of adenocarcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma. We report a unique case of a MiNEN with trilineage differentiation: large-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and adenocarcinoma. The reported patient presented with symptoms of an upper gastrointestinal bleed and was ultimately diagnosed with a MiNEN with trilineage differentiation. This is the first report of this exceedingly rare tumor type to include next-generation sequencing of the 3 separate tumor entities. In addition, we review the current literature and discuss the role of next-generation sequencing in classifying and treating MiNEN tumors.
How Terrorist Attacks Affect the Volatility of the Pakistani Stock Market?

This paper measures the impact of terrorist events on Pakistani stock market volatility. By using the EGARCH model, we concludes that terrorist events are significantly associated to the volatility of Karachi stock market. The impact of events varies with location, attack type and target type. Most interestingly, terrorist events have significant impact on volatility one day before the event and day of the event. The market absorb the effect of such shocks and recovers in one day. Moreover, significant negative volatility asymmetry confirms the leverage effect in the market.

Cloud storage as a service provides high scalability and availability as per need of user, without large investment on infrastructure. However, data security risks, such as confidentiality, privacy, and integrity of the outsourced data are associated with the cloud-computing model. Over the year`s techniques such as, remote data checking (RDC), data integrity protection (DIP), provable data possession (PDP), proof of storage (POS), and proof of retrievability (POR) have been devised to frequently and securely check the integrity of outsourced data. In this paper, we improve the efficiency of PDP scheme, in terms of computation, storage, and communication cost for large data archives. By utilizing the capabilities of JAR and ZIP technology, the cost of searching the metadata in proof generation process is reduced from O(n) to O(1). Moreover, due to direct access to metadata, disk I/O cost is reduced and resulting in 50 to 60 time faster proof generation for large datasets. Furthermore, our proposed scheme achieved 50% reduction in storage size of data and respective metadata that result in providing storage and communication efficiency.
